So, we've currently gotten 3 openings (soon to be 4), and 6 ending themes out of Funimation's dub, not counting the insert songs and dubbed Compass. This thread is for discussing the possible treatment of the other songs soon to come: potential singers, translation issues, etc.
Dubbed Song Speculation

So far, the one opening I can't wait to hear in English is Brand New World…and even though Vic Migogna has already sung 2 openings and 1 ending, I can see him singing alongside Jerry Jewel for that song.
-
I think Jerry Jewel should sing Jungle P
-
i'm interested in hearing who does crazy rainbow…i dont think vic should do that one though....
-
I see Vic singing Brand New World and Crazy Rainbow. Jewel could possibly sing Jungle P, but then again, we won't be hearing any of those three any time soon.
-
I wonder who would sing the new We Are opening….....man i wish the japanese artists for these songs could sing in english, lol that would help.....
-
Vic does a good job though. He's a great singer. He reminds me of the classic cartoon theme songs (like Darkwing Duck or Ducktales).
The next two possible theme songs have female dubbing anyway.
"Believe" - They COULD use "Dreaming of You" by Lolita (I like that song), but it wouldn't be right. "Believe in Wonderland!" To not hear those words would be difficult.
"Kokoro no Chizu" - I don't know who could sing this song, but whoever it is, needs to be an amazing singer. I feel this theme song stands for the massive shift in pace for the series, so thus it's EXTREMELY important.
-
If only Cartoon Network hadn't canned us, we would have been SO CLOSE to Brand New World - it is like my favorite One Piece opening.
That said, I am looking forward to Believe :)
Sadly I don't know enough about Funimation singers to make a good prediction, but Vic has done a nice job on the ones he's done (he did "Hikari E" too, right?)

Yup. He sure did.

Ive noticed FUNimation has used
Vic Mignogna (Hikari E, We Are, A-Z)
Caitlin Glass (Run, Run, Run and Faith)
Kristine Sa (Free Will)
Brina Palencia (Memories, Bon Voyage)
Stephanie Young (The Moon and the Sun)So for Believe I would probably take a guess and say Brina or Caitlin but Im always known to be wrong…
Kokoro No Chizu is amazing and I would definatly say Brina should do that one since Brina is by far my most fave FUNimation Female singer.
You Never know they might use Jerry Jewel for the 10th Anniversary We Are since they decided to use Vic instead of him for the first song since he was originally the choice to be the one who was gonna sing it.
But the song im wanting to hear the most in Funi Dub is the straw-hat ver of We Are...

why doesnt funimation do full-length versions of the songs? its stupid that they dont….it better not be because of copyrights either....

They mentioned something way back about having to go through a ton of licensing stuff in order to get the full versions of each song to dub. I think it was brought up when someone suggested to a Funi representative that they release a soundtrack with the dubbed songs. Hopefully they'll be able to do full versions eventually.

were lucky that we get dubed songs at all. funimations the only anime company that dubs the original songs and even then they still go with subs in some shows.

About The possibility of Full Versions of the songs, I E-mailed Vic about just such an Issue before, and he Forwarded my E-mail to Caitlin Glass, and she gave me more info.
@Caitlin Glass:
Rin,
Hi, this is Caitlin. Vic forwarded your questions on to me…
...The other songs we've recorded for One Piece have not been recorded as full length versions, just TV-length. And also, due to legal reasons, FUNimation is not allowed to release any type of soundtrack with the English songs. Sorry to disappoint you!
Thanks for watching One Piece!

Okay when she says "can't release a soundtrack", do the same principles apply to recording full length songs and releasing them on iTunes or somewhere on the internet?

Probably.
Most likely we would get a domestic CD of the Japanese songs, if anything at all. I don't know if I'd buy one, though, as I've already got the Japanese release of Super Best. Maybe as a gift for a friend of mine who LOVES Oretachi Wa Family, or if it came with something else I wanted.
