Well, the Wii has been relatively disappointing this year, even Brawl got boring for me after a couple of months, and No More Heroes was the only other game this year that I liked. I've been thinking about getting a 360, but I don't wanna spend too much, considering I only got the Wii for Christmas last year, and I'm unsure if I want to spend a large sum of money so soon. Well, whats the overall best 360 out of the 3 (arcade, elite, and normal) that gives you the most for your money and overall satisifaction? So yeah, suggest a couple of games assuming I do get one (I don't think I even want to get it til this Xmas atleast) or opinions…
Thinking about getting an xbox 360

What? I can't imagine not having a hard drive for a 360. I've downloaded a lot of Rock Band songs and things off Live. If you have a really good internet connection and want to online game (assuming you can afford the $50/year Gold subscription), get one with a hard drive.
And even if you can't afford the Gold Subscription or don't like online gaming, still get one with the hard drive. Memory cards cost $40 for…what...512mb?

another small question, I was thinking about getting it off amazon, ebay or craigslist for less money, can you still get a warranty and buy online play if you do that?
also i found that it looks like a great deal imo

Online play shouldn't be a problem at all, since you'll most likely create your own Live ID. As far as warranty goes, the MS warranty covers 3 years. So if the other person has not registered the system, then you should be good.

I'd say the elite as it gives you 120Gb of space unlike the 20Gb the Premium edition gives you but as the premium is cheaper than the Elite the ball is ultimately in your court.
(assuming you can afford the $50/year Gold subscription), get one with a hard drive.
Or just going with a month sub. for $8 or the three month sub for $20.

I'm getting this either tomorrow or next week most likely along with GTA4.
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360prosystem/
60 GB only 300 dollars. Sounds good. It contains basically everything that the elite has minus the black color and HDMI output. One question, then I'm done with this thread, do you need to buy anything to get on LIVE and play against other people? Like cords or anything or wires? I know you need a LIVE account and membership, but do you need to buy any excess wires or cords to play? or is it packed inside the box? If you need something extra, how much is it?

Well if you want to connect to live wirelessly you need the Wireless Network Adaptor and a compatible router the WNA will set you back about $100.
For a wired connection you need a DSL or Cable modem the Premium & Elite Models come with their own ethernet cables.

I was actually gonna make a thread just like this.
It sounds like the normal one is the best bet for me from what I'm gathering. Especially since I'm interested in online play.
-
There are alternatives to go around the wireless network adapter if you really want to go wireless. I was just lazy and had a $30 gift card.
-
i'd go for the 360 simply for the mass amount of J-RPG's it's getting.
lucky bastards, lol.

oh no i dont really wanna go wireless. im just saying, by just buying the normal xbox 360 package, can i get on LIVE immediately? or do i need to go buy some wires?

After you take care of some things yes.

Alright, okay, thanks everyone, I'm definitely getting a 360. If I get in October Ill get it with GTA 4, and if I get in November Ill get it with Gears of War 2. Hope to play you guys sometimes :]
-
I wont be able to play online as I don't have wireless internet, and really I wouldn't be getting much online play games. Which system is best for me? I presume the $199 is the model with the least features.

read the thread. 199 basically costs 290 since a 360 is shit w/o a harddrive. you need to upgrade to a harddrive for 90 bucks more. then if you want online, buy stuff like headphone etc.
-
Even though there's probably no changing your mind at this point, I'd just like to throw it out there how glitchy my XBox is, how many games it's eaten (it's up to 5 now.) how many times I've gotten The System Cannot Read The Disc error in the middle of a game, and framerate issues.
The PS3 is the better system, technically. I've had little to no problems with it (knock on wood) and it has pretty much the same games (Gears of War is not a killer app, meanwhile a game like Littlebigplanet will probably keep you occupied for quite a while, not to mention MGS4.)
I have both, so I'd say I'm pretty unbiased.

Guess you know this already but:
The headset comes with the premium and elite models.

Well not everyone goes through that stuff out of the time I had mine only one game of mine got fucked and that was partially my fault.
-
Just called to get mine sent in…should get the email by this time tomorrow
-
Really sorry about this massive bump…
but I finally got around to buying one. I'll get it today or tomorrow for sure... with either GTA 4 or Left 4 Dead. There's no fucking way I'm buying that overpriced 100 dollar adaptor... so...
anybody know if this works?
You can use your mac as an adaptor. About 75 percent of the people who did it said it worked. Anybody else here use it? Does it work?
Even if it doesn't… I guess I could just buy a 40 dollar non-Microsoft adapter.
The fucking adapter should just come with the 360... I mean seriously. -
If you happen to have two computers you could try out shared internet with them first. All you need is a Ethernet cord and, if it's not integrated in your mainboard (Computer older than… say 8 years) Ethernet Cards. I bought a 1 meter Ethernet cord for 3.49 € a month ago for moving my animes to my new system. So it's really cheap to find out if you can get it running. I don't have an Xbox 360 though but from what I've seen in the video you can configure it's network settings just like a Mac or a Pc.
-
wait so do you need to connect the mac to the 360 by an ethernet cord
-
If your 360 can't do telepathy, yes ;-)
You share your mac's internet connection with your 360. For that you need a Mac, a 360, an Ethernet cord and the right ip/subnetmask/dns-server. And if you have a computer from stoneage that has no onbaord Ethernet card you need that too.
Better tutorial:
Btw if you pay your own electricity check this method will soon be more expansive than the adapter, I think. Because you constantly need to run your computer while playing 360 online.

can't i just leave my cpu in sleep mode? that hardly uses any energy.
-
The operating system (kernel) is responsible for the communication protocol like ipv4 token ring etc… If you put your cpu in sleep mode the operating system will also stop to work (obvious). Therefore the answer to your question is : no.
-
What I did was buy an ethernet cable, connected one of its ends to the 360 and the other end to my router (2WIRE), it has 2 free .. the little squares where you insert the chords, I forgot what they are called.
-
So, let me get this straight. You have to spend another $100 to get your 360 to work?! I've never heard of this, fuck that makes the 360 as expensive as the PS3. (I say that cause I wont buy that Arcade shit, it doesn't even have backwards compatibility. So that'd be $399) Or is that just something you need for internet connectivity to play online? Cause I probably wouldn't use that anyways.
-

This is only if you want the wireless network adapter for wi-fi,which you don't really need since the system comes with an Ethernet cable.

Get a hard drive,an xbox live account, some microsoft points, hit the marketplace
problem solved.

I bought a flashed Arcade for 240, does everything I need it to since I don't really download content and such….....BUT you can't play original xbox games on an arcade.
