If you have your volume handy, the jacket reads JUSTICE on page 159, and 170. As for Coby and Helmeppo, chapters 83, 84, 85, 89, 90, etc.
New official Viz media topic V2.

Huh, so it does! Wow they did a sloppy job.
-
And that's exactly what I'm talking about. Them being sloppy only adds insult to injury.
-
They appear in only two small panels and are never seen again. The overall quality of the adaptations have come a long way since the East Blue days.
Forgive me, but I think it's rather silly to swear a series off over L/R differences and small edits that have since been discontinued.
-
I've read the first 2 volumes of the Viz manga, and three chapters that finish off volume 15 from the magazine. While the translation for all of it wasn't exactly perfectly accurate, it was still very good, roughly 90% accurate, I'd say. Sure, some things were censored, or some jokes weren't carried over, or some terms were changed, or some jokes were missed, but they were very minimal things, and for the most part, the translation was really quite good. I say that as long as you read both the licensed version and the scanlation, you're fine, since you'll be getting both an easy-to-read-in-English translation from proffessionals, and a translation with a bit more feel for the subtle jokes and meanings that only fans really notice. If you read both, I think that between them, you're getting the full experience. Plus, Viz really hardly misses anything of note in their translations at all. The most major thing I can think of is the usage of 4Kids terms (which isn't really their fault, they think they need to keep consistent with the anime. They didn't for DBZ, but for One Piece, it is probably better, in terms of sales) and not keeping the laughs. That's hardly worth not buying the volumes for.
-
I'm with Imitorar on this. Basically, my only real disappointments are the carrying over of 4kids! terms. I've enjoyed the translation even with any other "flaws" that I've seen.
-
The 4kids terms and edits are the big problem. Until those are gone, I'm not buying. They have no excuse to still be using them, especially because the 4kids dub is dead.
Toei is making them!
I don't give a damn, that's not my problem.
-
I'm pretty satisfied with the recent translation. I thought Crocodile's dialogue was pretty good in vol. 19.
Another reason I think the volumes are worth getting is that the art quality is much better than the weekly scans, which are often pretty grainy and the subtler pen lines aren't as clear. Compare a volume page to the same thing on one manga or wherever, and I guarantee that there'll be quite a difference.
-

I could be buying volumes 18 &19 right now, but I'm broke.:getlost:
But I agree with you that the 4kids terms for Devil Fruits and edits are a problem, but they're not going to stop me from buying the novels.
And I don't think Sheushia is behind the translations, I think the translators are lazy and use the terms so they won't do that much work.
Yes, I know I'm being very critical of them, but it bothers me that pro translator's put Tweet Tweet fruit as an accurate translation for Tori Tori no mi & Diggy Diggy Fruit as an accurate translation for mogu mogu no mi?.
-

This.
This is the ONLY reason I haven't continued buying the volumes. WTF Tweet Tweet? Diggy Diggy? What the fuck is the demographic for this shit again? I want to sit in at a Viz/Funimation Board meeting with an airhorn to use when I hear Tom in the corner suggests that Wapol's fruit be called the Tummy Tummy fruit.
Why am I missing 4kids right now?
-
Yes, because One Piece is a serious, hardcore show.
-
@Yuugi's:
Yes, because One Piece is a serious, hardcore show.
Berserk it's not, but Diggy Diggy Fruit still sounds stupid. Plus, it IS inaccurate. Not the point of not buying the volume (seriously people, the name gets mentioned 10 times at most, it's hardly worth not buying the manga.), but it's worth a bit of bother.
Besides, Shueisha doesn't force Viz to use the 4Kids terms, Viz themselves do it, and have ever since they switched to Zolo. It's because they think that if the manga doesn't use the same terms as the anime, people will get confused and not buy the manga. This didn't stop them from calling Krillin Kuririn in DBZ (which is ironic, since Toriyama's romanized the name as Kulilin, but I don't think he ever romanized anything with an "R" anyway) and changing alot of the attack names back (Tri-Beam Cannon was called Kikoho, for instance, Destructo Disc was Kienzan, and let's leave Special Beam Cannon to Light of Death out of this…) but things have changed since then. Besides, One Piece isn't DBZ, and while DBZ would sell well regardless of what names were used thanks to its reputation, One Piece doesn't have that here. I doubt it would really lower sales, since the orignal names tend to sound less stupid, there's an "uncut and unedited" factor to keeping the original terms, and they're so minor that nobody really cares, but Viz seems to think it's best that they do it. They aren't going to change at this point, so it's really best to just buy the volumes. Besides, it's minor stuff anyway.
Seriously, you wanna see if Viz's translation is good? Read a chapter of their translation. Then compare it to Stephen's translation. If the content is more or less the same, (and in my experience, it usually will be) then it's a good translation.
-
I'm still buying the volumes. I just felt like raging.
-
For me, buying the volumes is admitting to Viz that what they're doing is alright, and that they don't have to change a thing, which isn't the case. But they got us by the balls, if OP volumes aren't bought it'd be even less popular in the states…
-

It's called continuity.
-
It's called bullshit.
-
It's called Shueisha and TOEI telling them what to do. They may as well make what money they can.
-
Find it funny how Toei could have in that but didn't do any thing for
Light Of DeathI mean DragonBall. -
Here's the top 20 Manga properties for the 3rd Quarter.
http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/13691.htmlOf course Viz takes a total of 12 spots on the list. Seems anything with "Vampire" in the title sales a lot.
-
Fuckin' Naruto at #1 again, and no One Piece. Oh well, I can kinda be happy Berserk's on there.
-
If it was released as frequently as those other titles on the list I'm sure it would always appear but since there was no volume during the third quarter it shows that its sales are not consistently strong.
-

Oh, God. It's a comic book. Just because the terms are written there doesn't mean you have to read them. Don't like Zolo? Just read it as Zoro. Don't like Tweet Tweet Fruit? Read it as Tori Tori no Mi or Tori Tori Fruit or whatever else you want to call it. You're not being forced to read them as they're written, and don't tell me that because it's written there you have to read it, because you don't. The book isn't pointing a gun at you and shouting "It's ZOLO, not ZORO! Read it the American way!" You can ignore whatever you want and replace it with whatever you want. You know what the terms are in the Japanese version, so if you want them there so bad, just read them the way you want. Hell, you can go so far as take some whiteout and a pen and rewrite it however you want. No one's stopping you. I don't recommend it, but wouldn't condemn it, either. It's not like the anime where you have to listen to the voice actors saying the stupid terms. Complaining about it and not buying the volumes isn't going to accomplish anything. All that does is force us fans who actually want to read the English version to have to wait four months for a freakin' volume to come out. Viz is NEVER going to say "Oh, people aren't buying the manga. Let's change all the terms to appease the Internet nerds and confuse the hell out of anyone that only reads the English version". They're going to say "Oh, people aren't buying the manga. Let's ignore it and work on Stupid-but-More-Popular-Series-X".
And, yes, I know fully well that this argument isn't going to convince you in any way, shape, or form, but I just felt like coming out of posting retirement to rant a little. Goodbye

Would you read a Bible where the main character is named Jay Zeus, Son of Gaudyness?

I sure as hell would.

I would if the bible weren't so damn long.

K, bye .

I knew I made him sound too cool.

Should have just asked what it was:
Would you read a book where the man character is name Jesus, the son of God?

Look, none of us like edits but it's simple: the internet is out there to educate the masses on what's right so just let's just leave that be and let them figure it out so they can know on their own Viz is screwy.
As for the latest manga list…like someone said, just write in "Rosario & Chibi Vampire Knight" and you probably would get a good chunk of the top. (though with Death Note over, why is that still there at the top part?)
-
Should have just asked what it was:

I would definitely read that Jesus in a book= EPIC WIN
-

no. .
and how does this even relate to the Viz Media topic, did the "do you believe in god" discussion spread or something?
-
Blame Zkaiser for complaining/poking fun about GDL's Wall o' text rant, it started there. -_-
The devil fruit names are alright, they could at least try to intergrate Zoro at least.
But more importnantly would it kill them to release the volumes to go further in the story?
-
The devil fruit names are alright.
What? Diggy Diggy? Tweet Tweet? NOT COOL. What's wrong with Mole Mole and Bird Bird?

I bought the Bleach data book today and it's really thick. I'll look forward to One Piece Red sometime in 2010.
-
So, I decided to finally look through the December issue, and it seems One Piece wasn't edited in it, or at least Doublefinger was left alone. Hopefully that means what they were doing was just out of the blue and decided to stop editing the art.
-
Looks like SimonSays.com has updated all the way to August and One Piece Volume 21 is listed for June.
Also Slam Dunk will start getting a bi-monthly release beginning in June.
-
Viz will release 11 new Naruto volumes in the course of… 3 months: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/press-release/2008-11-17/viz-media-announces-unprecedented-multimedia-campaign-to-provide-near-simultaneous-u.s-japan-release-of-new-naruto-shippuden-animated-episodes-for-free-on-www.naruto.com
That's right, Viz. Keep burning Naruto's midnight oil, it's only a matter of time… only a matter of time. Oh, who am I kidding. They purposely got caught up, this shit ain't gonna go till the series ends.
-
Like I said, the Naruto'll hit One Piece pace soon enough.
-
I don't foresee Naruto's eventually slowdown to have any positive effects on any of series they're slowly releasing. It'll just be business as usual but this time Naruto will get the same amount of chapters Bleach and One Piece get.
At this point I would just be glad to see any of Oda's other stuff get released here like the remaining art and data books, possibly "Wanted" as well.
-
Looks like SimonSays.com has updated all the way to August and One Piece Volume 21 is listed for June.
Four months for a volume that only has nine chapters? The hell?
-
Why are you surprised? It's just Viz showing its love for One Piece.
-
But man… 11 volumes... in 3 months, that's a volume a week. I've never heard of a series being released that fast.
-
Why are you surprised? It's just Viz showing its love for One Piece.
Well, yes, but usually it takes them three months to crank out something like that. The 11-12 chapter volumes usually take a bit longer than the 9-10 ones.
I'm afraid that it's looking like we're only going to get three volumes in 2009. So much for ending Alabasta by 2010…
-
It's a drag. I think I'm going to be well into my 40s by the time we reach the current Japanese volume. I'm sure Viz will be busy re-releasing Naruto in an anniversary format by then. Sometimes I wonder if Viz is just going to let the series fall by the wayside…
I guess it could be worse. It could be Trigun. It's taken almost 11 months for the last volume to be released.
-
Oh god! 11 volumes in 3 months AGAIN! It's not… but... lol thats so dumb of viz. I mean, no one in the United States who is middle class(with the economy now) can buy that many volumes along with the other good series they release.
This wont do any good to must people who wanna buy everything and cant, Viz isn't even doing a good thing here
-
They know people will snatch them all up eventually and that's all that matters.
http://www.shonenjump.com/news/newsroom/index.php?id=78
I never would have thought I'd see Franky, Robin, and Brook on the American Jump website. -
So that's why they subbed it. VIZ was gonna show links to it on their website.
-
And, they're telling us not to spoil anything in that fan letter thing? <_<
