They should do Rurouni Kenshin all over again. Rurouni Kenshin KAI! LOL!
But I'm serious!
It's a great manga and it deserves to get an awesome animation as FMA Brotherhood did.

It's not a great manga and better series like Vagabond are still waiting to be animated, so why try Kenshin again of all things.
The same reason they did FMA Brotherhood. And it's a great manga, IMO!
I saved myself by skipping the filler.
I don't want to even know whom it was.
I don't think this is really a spoiler. The person that was "killed in the OAVs" was Kenshin himself.
Let me expand:
In the entire anime run of Rurouni Kenshin there were various types of filler littered throughout the series. The first filler occurred during the first season (the Tokyo arc) and was your average anime filler. Some fans felt it derailed the manga's pacing and some key storylines (people tend to cite the Rajuita arc for this) and while I'm somewhat on board with them I liked some of the episodes (mainly ones that focused of Yahiko and Megumi) and it was a nice way to build-up to the Kyoto arc.
The Kyoto arc is where the anime follows the manga almost page for page and is where the anime series gains a lot of its popularity from since the arc is one huge thematic whiplash to the lighthearted feel of the first season.
After the Kyoto arc is when Kenshin's filler hell begin (long before Naruto broke that record for most consistent filler episodes in a anime series) and much like Naruto the filler had a decent start and then it just got worse and worse and… Fung Shei.
Then there's the movie which even though it was your typical filler anime movie it would have been great...if it wasn't so slow paced, had bland characters, and one sequence that is flashbacked...again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and you get my point.
There were two OAVs. The first OAV series was a more grim dark (complete with un-manga like realistic designs) take on Kenshin's past that was taken directly from the manga during the final manga arc. They, like the Kyoto arc, only helped fuel the positive things about the Kenshin anime.
Because ADV at the time released the OAVs they felt fans wanted more so I believe they had some influence in having the final set of OAVs to be made. These "Reflection" OAVs were supposed to "end" the Kenshin anime and have more thematically in common with the grimdark previous OAV series compared to the overall more manga proper TV series. It completely went against the manga ending where things ended happily and showed a more realistic take on a war weary Kenshin and Kaoru getting a incurable disease and dying in each other arms.
Suffice to say this didn't go over to well with the manga creator, who I believe emphasized that his ending was the "real" ending.
O-chan
(realistic designs)
The idea of this makes me chuckle given the schizophernic nature of the designs all throughout the series. You'd have normal people going about their regular mundane late 19th century Japanese lives and then suddenly a Hulk expy with a grenade launcher grafted to his arm punches through a wall.

Never mind that the manga artist's general sense of design seemed to combine shojo designs with shonen inking and about 90% of his bad guy designs were borrowed from Marvel Comics and keep in mind that everyone is clothed in Edo-era style. Definitely a weird combination.

And a part of what I don't like about it.
Thanks o-chan.
Best thing about RK is the OVA, that was just awesome.

I know!
That's part of why Kenshin was so awesome for me!
Its half Japanese history lesson and half a Superhero story.
It also helps that Shishio Makoto is one of the best realised manga villains ever created.
@JERK:
ahahahaahahaha, no, no
Yeah the Meiji Restoration and the Bakumatsu were complete fantasy.
As were the Ishin Patriots and the Shinsengumi.
Oh wait….
If you consider setting something in passingly mentioned events a history lesson then that's sad.
Kenshin's about as much a history lesson as Indiana Jones. The only difference is you're less familiar with 1870's Japan then you are with the 1930's.
@JERK:

I guess I'm sad then, because I thought it gave a very good idea of what life was life back in that time period. Sure it played fast and loose with historical events, but a lot of the background characters were actual historical figures.

lolllllll
Why on earth would anyone think something as cartoony as Kenshin would provide a good portrait of period life.
Even Vagabond needs to be taken with salt.
Sure it played fast and loose with historical events,
Which disqualifies it of educational value aside from awareness of things existing.
but a lot of the background characters were actual historical figures.
You mean like how they had Okubo Toshimichi get killed off by Shishio's boy toy? So educational…
Tell me all you know about the time periods now thanks to Kenshin.

Just shut the fuck up already man, I just read 10 chapters of a manga which had Joan of Arc meet up with Tokugawa something-or-other.
Massacre Man Killer?
If so then that's good.
He's not a dong.
Pressing issues of early Meiji Japan.
"How and when do we rape Korea?"
Should we change the title to discussion of Kenshin and historical accuracies?
Naotoshi SHIDA(志田直俊) will be one of the key animators of Episode 463.
Awesome, thanks for the heads up Bamind.
Have you recived the PM?
Yeah, Sorry…I was going through it. Thanks a lot for the hardwork.

It's me that should say sorry…
Even though the pacing might not be that great, I'm really happy that the average AD's are getting good animators to work with them. And we still haven't seen the good AD's episodes.
Gotta say, I'm impressed with Nakatani's scene in 462, Starting from when the canons are being shot at WB and the moment Vista and the others jump on the ice until smoker saves Tashigi was really well animated. I'm still confirming if it's really her, And I'm also checking the other animators involved.

lol, not at all.

I liked that part but what really annoyed me was how the halfway mark felt like that's where they should have ended the episode and the fact that Ace had the same stupid expression throughout the entire episode and it just looked very off model.

Eh, I thought he looked pretty bad in the manga too. There was one shot of him in particular from head-on that made him look like a gremlin or something, with bugged-out eyes and all. I hate his guttural noises too. It sounds stupid, it's everywhere in anime, and it only serves to break the tension by sounding so utterly stupid, like they're trying to hock a loogie or something.
I think we should blame the series director for that. I still hate how the they are not at least going with the normal 1 chapter per episode pacing, So we can have the normal cliffhangers.
From the looks of it, they wanted the Marco Vs Kizaru fight in one episode.
Can't wait till we have one panel per episode.
We're getting there, 15 minutes to freaking animate 5 godamn panels
@JERK:
Can't wait till we have one panel per episode.
the nami and robin centric chapters will be worth it.
@JERK:
ha ha yeah
actually no
They should have done some cover story arcs after amazon lily or after impel down but its too late for that now.
Well they did do the filler episodes for the Strawhats after ID…
Question: Did anyone special do the Oars Jr. entrance (up until the part where he cleaves the battleship in two)? I just noticed that the shading is more detailed there, which is usually a dead giveaway that there is some key animating going on.

Ha, I thought I was the only one. Yeah, at first I thought some parts of it looks like Shida, since he did a lot of key animation according to the list.
But it's hard to know who did it.
There is the scene of Marco when he starts flying and stops Kizaru's attack, that looked really good specially the part with Marco flying at the beginning.
Also the scene of WB stopping the falling magma looked good.
Anyway, It's hard to tell who did those scene, since their styles is not as clear as Shida or the other big animators we know. And there was a lot of key animators in that episode.
I think Katsumi might do some key animation next episode.
So, any of you wonderful guys want to help me play name that animator?
I've got an original settei sheet about which I'm trying to gather information. Given that it's settei, it was likely drawn by Koizumi or Hisada. I'm currently leaning towards Hisada due to face shape and the fact that I think it might be from the Ocean's Dream tie-in episodes, and Hisada is credited as the sole character designer for those episodes. I just happened to watch those episodes after getting this piece, and a lot of Luffy's facial expressions seemed to match scenes in the episode.
But who knows, it could be someone else. I just know that this thread's regulars are much, much better at putting a name to artwork than I am.
Anyway, a couple of close-ups of Luffy. Didn't want to post the whole page due to size issues, and the fact that details would get lost.

I can post more pics if needed. Help?
To be honest it doesn't quite look like either to me, but that's probably because it's a sketch and not a cleaned-up animation cel. But if it's a production sketch, and Hisada was credited as the character designer (I didn't know he dabbled in design back then), then I'd say it's probably him. Could you possibly pinpoint which episode you're talking about in regards to the facial expressions? 224 was the only episode Hisada directed in that arc.
Side note: Tate did 225…ew, what a waste.
(I didn't know he dabbled in design back then),
That's probably because I'm full of it. >.< For some reason I remember Hisada being credited, but I looked back and Koizumi is it for all of those episodes.
I'm thinking it was 220 (Inoue was the animation director for that one–another waste) but I'll have to double-check.
Yeah, sometimes it's hard to correlate rough genga with finished product. Espcially in an anime like One Piece--most sketches end up getting simplified on screen. This sheet is rough compared to the copied character sheets that get passed around the studio for reference (those are also what you see in those settei books/collections). And it's got some really rough . . . doodles? on the back. Things like someone's hand, a stapler, a money clip, some sort of drawing model (that you pose to get body perspectives when drawing, only it looks more action figurey than the type I'm used to).
Yeah, it's hard to tell…Probably Hisada. It doesn't look like Koizumi to me.

Okay, I get why Crossword (or was is Murad?) said that 225 was a waste of Tate's talents after skimming through the episode but how the heck is 220 a waste of Inoue talents when the entire episode the characters were drawn on model and nothing spectacular happened the entire episode?! The good animators don't always have to get the manga based episodes with movie-esque animation styles. I also think this episode was the one where he returned to the series on a semi-regular basis after his absence for the majority of Skypiea.

Before falling in love with one piece i used to hate it just because i thought the drawing of characters sucked and i always said why dont the author of one piece draw a little bit more better like bleach or naruto
now after watching 400 episodes when i go back to watch other animes like bleach i cant stand its graphics
i understood that graphics isnt anything the most important thing in an anime is the passion of how the author makes it.

The author doesn't put any passion into the anime because the author doesn't make it.

Eiichiro Oda does not make the anime.
I think Dahem is talking about Oda's art style, which takes time to get used to.

Exactly
…..........
Yeah, it's hard to tell…Probably Hisada. It doesn't look like Koizumi to me.
Did Koizumi quit? I haven't seen a Koizumi episode since 295. I always liked the art style over inoue's. Loved his character designs of nami and vivi.
Doesn't appear to be working for the show at all anymore. He was the original character designer, but as of Impel Down Hisada seems to have taken over that position.
I've been going over some (relatively) old episodes for a little project of mine, and geez, Nakatani's style has changed a lot since her debut in 383. Her models were like a mishmash of Ide, Hisada, and Tate dunked in a vat of bright, shiny glaze with Onishi's animation style to top it off. Now Luffy's model looks kind of like a watered-down Tate.
She went from the awesome of 383 to a poor mans tate? What episode has she done recently?
