The elder has been reading One Punch Man lately :P
History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi

It was too rushed for my taste.
Still, this is what last 10 chapters of Naruto should have looked like.
well put. I'd prefer if any of the fights were better, but emotionally it's working. Fast and frentic, with a few excellent spreads.
I hope that some of the deaths stick, though. Between Kii Kagerou, the Elder, and whatever the leader of Yomi's name was, SOME of them outta remain dead.
-
Btw rip elder. Whatever his name was…
-
So i guess Kushinada's the one behind everything ?
It kinda makes sense since she has some backstory with the elder.

On the next episode: Kushinada is Saiga's mother and Miu's evil granny.

That explains the breasts.
-
Wait, out of everything going on in this chapter…what's with Kushinada's face on page 14? Is she making a super deformed anime face in light of her success with nuclear war? Is that what's happening? The page makes it look like her face look much wider and much flatter.
-
The Elder isn't dead but I know the evil Yomi master guy (Senzui?) is.
-
I might speed up my read through of this series now. Though it never seemed too interesting, it was always fun.
-
Yeah, it is ending afterall.
God i hate when series go into rushed endings.
-
Not surprising. Think I've caught up and done one or two rereads of the whole series since I first found out about this series. I'll probably be willing to do one more now to refresh myself before the story completely ends. Hopefully there's tons of callbacks and loose ends tied up to so the reread is worth it.
Kenichi is one of the earliest series I followed when I started getting into anime outside of Bleach/Naruto/One Piece. It'll be good to see it off. Maybe with the manga completed there can now be a nicely paced anime made for it, though as implied the original anime will have nostalgic value for me, and I don't think I've seen any of the OVAs that have been made since the anime ended, at least in their entirely. Maybe clips.
-
So it is coming to an end is it? I'm rather surprised, but better it to end now then drag it out any further. I've read the entire series and I've enjoyed it, despite the almost insane level of fanservice.
Let's see how the ride ends.
-
My thoughts on the latest arc are that the story has been rushed and there's no emotional connection to the reveal to the actual bad guy/the story of Miu's parents was underwhelming. Shame that I never really thought Kenichi's friends had their moments to shine and have been mostly wasted since Yami's Disciples appeared in the story. That said, although it was obvious that Yami's disciples were going to deflect and join Kenichi's side I still felt that was satisfying, both for the Disciples and the Masters for the most part.
Kenichi's final Disciple fight might ended with a lot of ki/aura mumbo jumbo instead of actual martial arts, but I did like the order of Kenichi's final attacks. His penultimate attack was a move Shigure taught him, a nice touch since her techniques are barely touched upon when Kenichi undergoes training. Then it goes into him advancing to a new level in the technique the Elder taught him and using that form with his signature attack he created by combining the Martial arts moves of his masters (the Mubyoshi). All in all, that's solid.
With the latest chapter, a Missile seems like a really anticlimatic way for the Elder to go out on, but if it is ending, maybe the death might actually stick. That said, it would be classic Kenichi for the Elder to show up completely fine later. Guess the only thing I really wished the ending explored does is go into Ogata's plans and have the story let Ogata be the focal final villain. With a month left, even if they do shift the focus again on him, I feel like it'd be rushed or not handled well.
Guess the real question is, which song is better. Opening 1 or 2?

final chapter and only 24 pages ugh … I don't feel like that's going to wrap everything up as nicely as I would like?
New project: new anime series? More OVA's? Movie?? -
Such a shame, one of my most loved manga ever.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Is that two more chapters btw?
-
Oh it's really ending now? I pretty much always skimmed through the newest chapters as they were released, cause I liked the action and over the top fanservice, which in this manga for some reason is entertaining for me, while it is completely bland in fairy tail. But now that it's ending I am finally gonna read it from start to finish.
-
So the final chapter will be there within the next hours…? Wow, that was unexpected!
Or wait, it will be next week, right? I just read something with 17th September at the Fairy Tail cover about issue 45 and didn't really think about it, but this week we have issue 44, right?
-
Did Saiga and Senzuis names get swapped this chapter?
Anyway, agaun, shame to see it end. This chapter felt more rushed than yhe others. Alas.
-
Sigh, what a rushed mess. There were a few glimmers of nice character moments and Elder Squirrel was amazing but blegh…
This series really used to be good once upon a time, fanservice not withstanding, iot reached its peak at the DoD arc and never quite reached it again after that but even still, it was fun and entertaining and had some solid story and characterization. But after the past few arcs, I don't know, something happened with the author, probably got sick of it, and it just turned into this rushed mess of story-telling be it stupid plot elements introduced out of nowhere or unresolved plot threads unceremoniously dropped. This series was good because it took its time to slowly develop characters and story threads, it had an organization of like 10 masters and their disciples and it took its time to explore each and every one instead of just having them being taken out one after the other. I really liked that. So it's a bigger shame that ultimately, nothing was ever really resolved.
Sigh, this used to be one of my favorite series at its peak, now I can't even bring myself to say it's worth reading. Well, only one chapter left I guess...
-
So, apprently this is ending.
Is it worth it to read 500+ chapters of this series or is this just another Hitman Reborn or Fairy Tail and I can skip it?Edit: Lol, thanks for answering my post in the time it was written TLC.
-
Ok I didn't know it was ending this fast.
Also, boobies.
-
It was a mess, so I'm not going to miss it. Was promising at beginning although…
-
For a 12 year long series this is the most blotched and messed ending I have seen.

Really? coughnarutocough
-
So much for the Kushinada hype in this series…
Sigh
-
So…Saiga was evil and created Darkness to start a war, and he was evil for ten years, but then he was actually good all along, and it was his evil friend from evil village (who wanted village to stop being evil, but became evil in the process) wearing his face who wanted to do evil things, and all those evil masters are actually good, and only Kushinada is truly evil, but there is no rocket anymore so whatever. The end.
...fuck this manga.
-
I'm gonna miss it.
The ending is unsatisfying, all in all.
-
Did the series get cancelled or something? All of it felt a bit forced and rushed.
-
I remember really early on not digging this series too much. Prolly good thing I dropped it.
Had a similar feeling with Negima. Kept reading instead, ended up liking some of it, then it pooped on me.
-
I hope this manga comes back in a few years showing a time skip. I want to see Kenichi as a full on master :(
-
That rocket should have trained harder if it wanted to take on the Elder.
-
Well, this is called History's "Strongest Disciple" so I never expected we'd ever see Kenichi get to Master level, and I'm fine with that. I'll hold my complete judgement until the very last chapter, but yeah, this was rushed as hell. I knew the manga was coming to an end but I didn't think it was to be so soon.
-
What's with all this shonen series who fail to provide a satisfying ending after so many years, lol.
-
i really hope it will come back soon as kenichi the strongest master
-
bad bad bad ending. rushed and full of holes, really. this is like hitman reborn, what's going on with the author? he will do story of the strongest master kenichi?
-
Dunno if it's really ending. One of the villians flat out says "I'll return".
-
Really? coughnarutocough
Naruto was a mess after the first two years, a shitty ending was just predictable (and so was Kenichi's to a degree but I never expected something so bad)
-
Wow, this is a really bad ending, but I never cared too much for the series, weekly fluff.
-
It was so much better couple of years ago.
The way it's all resolved feels so… lackluster.
-
Why the hell is people here calling "bad ending" like it is the end of the series, when is only the end of the final arc. I totally thought you all had already read the last chapter, and went into a marathon to end the manga, when I notice that a chapter is missing! Thank you, now I have to wait a week to end the manga when I was hoping to read it all in one go!
-
Dunno if it's really ending. One of the villians flat out says "I'll return".
You mean besides the editor's comment on the last page that says that Kenichi is ending? At most it'll get a spinoff series or a sequel
-
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaa….......... Another garbage manga is ending .
-
I'm stunned. I thought it had a good dozen at least chapters left, then we get told it'll end this month. then this week, we get told it'll end NEXT CHAPTER.
On the other hand, if we get a bunch of Gaidens about the various other non-ryozanpaku characters, like what Grappler Baki has been doing since Son of Ogre finished, I'd be down with that.
Waiting until next week to actually articulate my thoughts on this ending, because, well, it hasn't technically ended yet.
-
As rushed as the ending is it must have either gotten cancelled or Matsuena is writing something new and just wanted to end this one.
*btw, I consider this guy to be a bigger "villain" then Senzui/Saiga was … he was the true First Fist!
-
Maybe the author wants to do a "Kenichi Z" and skip 5-10 years into the future. But things looked so rushed in the last months that the series most likely has been canned.
I have no idea what Matsuena is going to do if Kenichi ends, his other work (a post apocalyptic manga with an airhead hentai doll as mc) was very bland. He can write decent shonen fights from time to time but besides that and the fanservice he is not so good as a mangaka.
-
I'd like to see the story continued, on the condition it revolves more around martial arts and less around world conquering plots. And more around Kenichi and his tier handling stuff, less around masters saving the day. I'd even tolerate fanservice (for the greater good), even though there was enough of it in this last arc for his next 2 mangas.
Things haven't been resolved, and Kenichi's final fight was crap compared to some of his other fights.
And where the fuck is Shinnosuke!?
(Although he did run away after beating Kenichi, saying he'll never fight him again so he can hold the victory, lol.) -
Next week's ending better be uber awesome. If Kenichi doesn't at least get together with Miu I will erase this entire manga from my mind by force. The author should provide closure to at least one of his main plot points.

Maybe that's what center color spread is for.
(God I hope not.)
-
I'm going to laugh if this continues with "Histories strongest expert class" or something in a few months and all the riot was for naught.
Well not that I think that's very likely, honestly the way this arc has been going it's probably better to end this now.
I've argued a while back that this series theoretically could go for as long as the author wants to as long as he has interesting masters and Kenichi's progression is kept interesting.Well what we've been seeing in this arc is that every weapon division master sucks, their fighting style are not characterized in a way that's interesting.
And it's not a problem of that the weapons feel too similar, we've had 2 karate masters with styles and personalities that felt really distinct in an entertaining way.It just feels like he ran out of ideas to show off different martial arts. I mean the last big enemy master had awfully defined ninja moves and his character was pretty boring, even worse he fought against superman martial arts techniques that are also very characterless.
They were kind of ok when we saw them coming from this larger than life character(Elder) who always displayed them in a somewhat humorous fashion but once they were put in a super serious fight it felt like they lacked impact. And then last but not least Kenichi's progress can't say the way it went down in this fight was particularly entertaining for me. I strongly preferred his power ups when they came off preparation we've been shown.
So yeah it just seems like the author is just ready for something new and probably has done everything he wanted with this series. Can't say I have strong feelings on the series ending. This was pretty much my junk food manga(pretty sure this is a thing with so many people reading Bleach despite it being so bad :P).
-
This is without a doubt cancelled, this last arc alone should be enough proof of that.
