New chapter. Basic setup chapter with fights simply being paired off. Not liking how quick things are going. Matsuena just can't do long arcs any more. Disconcerted that there's no Shinpaku alliance either. What was the point of bringing them back then?:/
I have to agree that I'm a little disappointed. But I'm confident they will be entering later on.
I like the guy Sakaki is fighting though.

But this chapter actually wasn't too ecchi on the normal Kenichi standards. It's good to have less ecchi in some chapters, to focus on the awesomeness of the elder in this case.

Henichi does it again! Good chap, good chap… obvious setup for this matchup is great, I hate it when authors try to play 'coincidence' as anything but transparent writing. Call a spade a spade and let's watch the ryozanpaku masters club a few nameless minimasters into the dirt while we're at it.
Next chap: faceoff with apa/henichi -vs- whusisface/koukin? Leading up to four or five chapters of quickly-resolving fights before they all finish just in time for Fuurinji to waltz in and make some nonchalant comment about having missed all the action.
Does still make one wonder, though: where do all the others come into it, and what's Mew gonna be doing, wasn't she just there? Maybe Shigure takes on the weapon user and she can fight the horse.

Koukin's master's name is Aagard. And I agree, I'm totally O_O over what's going to happen. So far the plot seems to be going straight as can be but it just can't end like that. There's, like you said, Miu as well as Shinpaku alliance and of course Nijima has to do something spectacular. I'm expecting a huge twist regarding data over the Setting sun thing that's gonna shake things up from a straight out battle to a race against time to accomplish an objective. We'll see I guess. I just know it can't be enough that it's just played straight.

Wow…if that happened, it would be a pinnacle moment of the series especially since it was foreshadowed with Tanaka and Apachai is the most adorable, lovable of the masters.
Of course as an incredible masterstroke it would be in the story, there's no way in hell I want that to happen, I love Apachai!!! T_T

! Awesome chapter. I'm loving the Shigure battle so far. These new opponents are definitely not basic fodder. Shigure is going all out to beat this guy. That double-spread of her on the motorcycle and that cool-looking net-garb was so heart-pumping!!!
! For me, the best part though was the build-up between Kokin/Aagard vs Kenichi/Apachai. See, THAT is how you set up a long hyped up battle. I can't wait for it, I'm betting it's going to be contesting for best battle of the series for years to come.Edit at above: It's not deus ex machina if she found a motorcycle in a storage facility at an American base.

Super stoked for the Aagard/Koukin fights…. Shigure just turns more and more into a slice of pornography, hard to take anything she does seriously.

Psh, I didn't even notice the fan-service. I was too distracted by how fucking cool she looked ESPECIALLY on that motorcycle.
That awesome pose with the way she was holding the lance, beautifully drawn face, attention to minor details. Speaking of, did anyone notice how her shirt was still stuck to Knight guy's lance and it was fluttering around? I loved it. It's the small things that really attract you.

I'm perverted, so of course I noticed Shigure's fanservice. But I agree with Lion that, once you get past your perversion, that shot was really awesome.
In fact, the art in this chapter was superb all around. I loved the scenery at the end before the main battle started.

The Agaard vs Apachai fight seems to be quite the manly collision.
Apachai will emerge victorious, he's too good not to.
And fanservice works only with pleasant art, I believe. Certainly not the case here.

I think the fanservice works well when juxtaposed with the overly masculine imagery. It's nice to break up those rigid muscles with some smooth curves every once in a while, even if it is a tad cheesy.
Great stuff as always, though. With my reading habits, Kenichi has to fill in whenever One Piece is on break as the good manga, and though it was mostly setup, it was great setup indeed. I'm actually quite hyped for this fight.

Huh, I was ready to mock this manga, thinking to myself "whoops, Shigure's tits are out again! This fight isn't gonna last long," but then…hell that motorcycle shot was badass. Fucking rock and roll on paper. I wish we got more fanservice shots that combined the badassery her master status should get, as opposed to all the panels that show that we're not getting "panty shots" so much as Shigure can't figure out her kimono is too short. It's really tough to take someone seriously when their ass is always hanging out.
That said, I just figured out another reason I don't like the increased intensity of fanservice lately, other then me being a prudish American. That's fear. For some reason I'm imagining the ratings for this thing are dropping and as a result the author's just putting out more and more, selling his body of work in order to keep our attention. I feel like a friend of mine is selling out and cheapening himself by doing so. He's attention whoring big time.

I don't think people are realizing the significance of Shigure losing her robe. This isn't simple fan-service, it's a symbol to show that Shigure is going all out against this guy. And this is especially exciting because it's never happened before. The only other person to push Shigure into a tight spot was Kagerou (and Aagard too I guess but that was a short fight). This is suggesting that this fight is going to lead to something especially brutal. I can't wait:)

That was an awesome fight, fan-service be damned. Shigure's best next to the fight with Kagerou.
! It was classic awesome Kenichi characterization with the mouse and knight talk and everything^_^
! Damn, there can be no doubt that this particular Ryozanpaku master was quite pressured though it was of her own volition to be fair but that's warrior code for you, otherwise you might as well hold against her the very principle of not killing Ryouzanpaku has (as the Knight himself noted, Shigure could have finished him off if she stuck the lance through the slits in his armour). Point is I think it's safe to say that all the masters are gonna have tough battles this arc especially Apachai (except the Elder who's terrorizing the American military^O^). -

The Joust was a tie and the rules state that in such an event, the battle needs to be settled with swords however the knight knew he couldn't beat Shigure in a sword battle. He decided to surrender with dignity instead befitting a Knight. So no it wasn't random.

I liked this fight because it was a cool, refreshing battle where a Ryozanpaku master was really pressured involving wicked scenes of jousting on motorcycles with interesting metaphysics and classic clever characterization.

Imagine you're working at a computer room at high school/university with a bunch of other people. Suddenly the guy next to you takes a break, and starts reading Tenjou Tenge or Gantz online, reading some of the steamier scenes.
Don't you think it's a little weird to broadcast to the world "Look at me! I'm into nude Japanese cartoon chicks with extreme proportions!"?
I can understand "not caring what the world thinks about you", if that's your stance in this case, but to be "proud" of it…that I don't get.

It's not a question of being proud or ashamed. If what other people think bugs you so much, then simply read the manga in private. Acting like it's a legitimate reason to drop the series is stupid. It's one thing if the nudity bothers you yourself, no matter how immature that may be, it's reasonable. But because of what other people might think? Lol.

Ya know, TLC's reason for getting over fan service is kind of awesome, have pride in what you like and fuck all who bug you for it. But there's still plenty of reason to be annoyed by it. I, for one, am annoyed how stupid it can make characters look. A woman choosing to sleep nude can be practical for comfort. Yet, ever see the second ending to the kenichi anime? I've really yelled out loud sometimes at that final screenshot "Miu! Turn the fuck around! Why is your ass facing the camera? You're a super martial artist! Even the mouse is quicker then you!"
That quote was a little long, but yeah, Miu is a mess of a character. An airheaded, bubbly blond bimbo who's also a lethal and efficient martial artist. A girl who never tells a lie in the same chapter she's outed for lying to her principal. A kind hearted girl who for some reason becomes is eager to tear apart any other hot girl she comes across in a vicious cat fight. Oh, and why are their holes for the sides of her stomach in her gym outfit? Bah, the only thing I like about her character is that she's a great motivation for Kenichi, and she's occasionally funny. But dammit, I'm so annoyed by this fan service lately, even Miu talking to the group with her back facing them annoys me (cause really, who does that?).
On another note, I'm convinced that all female weapon users in this series are indestructible, but share a weakness where they go unconscious when their clothes are ripped off. It makes perfect sense, and now whenever Shigure's clothes are torn off they'll be actual tension now!

You mentioned something about metaphysical truths or something in this chapter? I missed that, I guess. But it's still borderline pornographic and I don't think anyone can argue (effectively) that this doesn't cheapen the manga at all.

while a good analogy it can also be argued that this is the first time it has been this extreme in all of what 387 chapters. So its not like we are reading this all the time, so in the overal manga it is small amount.
Or are some of you so sensitive that you can't handle 10 pages of nudity and going to drop the manga when it is this far along?
Yes it did have a bit of nudity this chapter, but i enjoyed it. not because of the nudity, but because it didn't do the whole show like 99% of the boob and the nipple mysteriously moves around in order to stay hidden. That annoys me more than any nudity can.
