Jack Rakan from Mahou Sensei Negima, chapter 243 page 12, title Rakan, 120% . Uber King of manly uber badasses. When I saw which song was chosen I knew I had to do everything I could to make sure he was included and I put up arguably the best image of him too, I even went to the point of editing the image by deleting some extra panels from the top. I went all out for him so I'm happy he made it. Sneaking in a Kaiji pic was a sweet bonus though. I should find that really good robby post on Rakan.

Not really, he's actually TOO over the top and TOO awesome for my tastes, since he takes it to extreme absurdities, makes him hard to empathise with. But I figure hes a great gateway character for those that haven't seen the series, since he's flashy and showy and undeniably awesome, as opposed to the 30+ teenage girls the audience might have a hard time dealing with going in fresh. And you can pretty much just grab a panel from any random scene he's in and make motivational poster out of it.

For context, those little black things near his arms are fragments of his clothes being ripped to pieces due to him flexing his muscles and/or exuding his manly aura as he goes into manly serious mode.

Song went better than Bohemian Rhapsody. Got a bit wonky near the refrain at the end with the "be a man" parts and the repeated refrain, but… went pretty decent the first few verses.
Not as bad as last time, still not as good as Don't Stop Believin'. That was lightning in a bottle. I don't think we should plan on doing it again. if it happens… it'll happen.

Negima is terrible for the first 40 or so chapters. It gets way better later after it stops being…as much... of a lolicon Harry Potter. Great art, characterization, combat scenes and a plethora of characters who all get screen time, its one of the best shonen currently running. But most people have trouble getting past the opening which is overly fanservicy and doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason or intent to it, and a ton of characters.
And I don't blame them, i would have dropped the series too if the author hadn't done such great characterization in Love Hina, so I roughed it out and it DID get better. A lot better.
And you should go check the last few pages of Naruto thread 10. We just did a song number.

To be fair I haven't given Negima much of a chance but I've read past the lolicon phrase and I found the combat kinda cluttered and confusing. I only liked a few of the characters and I didn't really like the "Let's rape the shota" gimmick.

Harem is kinda like a karmic tollbooth. Get past it and you have the incredible awesome that more than compensates. Kinda unfair to the readers when you have other awesome series without the tollbooth but they all have their own problems (like Berserk and Hunter being super slow. I think One Piece is the only S-class series without any real hitches now that the death thing has been taken care of)

At this point with Negima, I'm tempted to say "Just start on chapter 186, then go back and read the early stuff after you've caught up if you like it" except thats obviously 19 volumes in and any new reader would be completely lost as to who all the characters are.
The fanservice really is completely uneccesary and actually gets in the way of the great story, but it tones down eventually, and while an unreasonable number of 15 year old girls DO have a crush on a 10 year old… its not so bad later for... certain spoilery reasons.

Wait on HxH. it's been in the middle of one arc for about 6 years and 4 hiatuses. The arc miiiight finish up next time he does 10 chapters, it seems close to the end, but it'd kind of suck to catch up right then.
Great series, would go toe to toe with OP easily if not for the hiatuses and illness induced art.
And Berserk is worth it. You may want to just try the anime first if money is the issue. Its a bit watered down and missing some bits, but its *most of the content from the first 13 volumes and you can get the box set for like 30 bucks now.
If you aren't hooked after that, well…

I know it was awful. Please bear with it. They're important to set up the world and characters. As soon as Asuna piledrives a giant spider (around chapter 40ish), you can be rest assured it's gonna be awesome from henceforth and it will just keep getting better and better and better.
Edit: Why 186? Kyoto arc and school festival were freaking amazing:(
