It's about principle. Additionally, if other retailers found out they were getting the short end of the stick they'd call foul.
Unofficial Funi DVD discussions

Well as I said before, the fans sure didn't mind ;)
-
Did anyone just check Amazon. Right now "One Piece" is the 9th best-selling FUNimation DVD and the 30th in the overall Anime & Manga category.
-
Oh noes!
My local FYE said One Piece merchandise is flying off the shelves when they receive it.

They got it already?
-
Thats pretty much tell us. Its going selling out and fast. xD I should mention this now, Wal-Mart got DBZ Season 5 and the DBZ Movie 1 & 2 Double Feature out in the store . The only reason I'm mentioning it since it comes out the same day of One Piece set 1. I bought Season 5 over the weekend at Wal Mart.
-
She wasn't specific, but she said any new One Piece stuff they've gotten has flown off the shelf.
They had an "Anime Day" about a month ago. It was costumes, contests, and such. She said they had One Piece merch there and it went fast, and that I should come to the next Anime Day to see what new OP merch they'd have to sell/give away.
If I do go, I'm gonna cosplay Sanji, and see if I can scope anything out.
-
Well I hope this all cheers Roman Mack up =D
-
If Roman comes in here and posts all doom and gloom again, I will call him a monotonoid.
-
And no one, not even Roman wants to be a monotonoid…
whatever it is
-
A monotonous noid.

@Gerchak:
This doesn't financially cripple Funimation in the slightest. The only way Funi would hurt from the early release date is if people were uploading torrents of the DVD's and people are keeping their eyes on the trackers to make sure that doesn't happen.
So other than raising a bitch fit about when they started making money off of these DVD's, I see no disadvantage to the early release for Funi.
I don't think money is the issue here. It's the principal of the thing. FUNi is a business, so they want stuff done on their schedule, as a professional business would. RightStuf didn't follow that schedule. FUNi profits all the same, but they still have right to be a little annoyed at RightStuf for not following their schedule.
Also, no one said they were "raising a bitch fit". Simply that a representative said they were "not happy" with it. Sounds to me more like a, "Hey, guys, that wasn't what we wanted you to do, so be more careful next time, alright?" situation than a, "WHAT THE HELL, RIGHTSTUF, WHAT THE HELL?" situation.
But okay, looks like we've moved on. Anyway, always good to hear that OP merch is popular.
-
Hopefully it'll keep up… And prompt the series to return on TV.
I don't care what you guys say, I still believe a series such as One Piece should have a tv deal, 4Kids terms or not.

It should, but who says it doesn't?
-
I'm not really going to cling on to the little hope we have regarding it's tv deal.
I think it's already safe to say that it's gone from CN. Even if we don't have an official statement on the matter.
And there isn't really any other station that'll run One Piece, either. Especially since it's basically bounced from two stations already.

Maybe it is principal, but I still don't see why considering no one has a bad thing to say about the DVD's that's stopping people from buying/wanting them. People are praising it and spreading those praises through word-of-mouth. They're getting free publicity for the DVD's before most people can buy them.

Oh my God, Roman's been replaced by a skrull.

and again AWB uses words I dont know :(

Google it, my Demyx demanding deviate.

I'm glad it's not just me that this happens to. Is there anything the posters around here won't take out of context and blow wildly out of proportion?
Anyway, this week cannot go by fast enough, even if I probably won't be able to pick it up until next Wednesday anyway. :(

I had originally bought a One Piece DVD from amazon before I had bought one from rightstuf, so I have a second DVD coming in the mail soon around the official release date. And I will be selling it for $40. I've already pm'd a friend about it, and if they turn down the offer (cause there's a 50% they will) I will be selling it to anyone who wants it in this thread.
Conditions:
You must be able to pay me cash or check through the mail, and you musn't be on my ignore list. -
Why would anybody buy your set for $40 when they could get their own from Amazon for $37.49?
And possibly less in a retail store. I think chances are pretty good that Wal-Mart will have it for $34.99
(personally, I have a $5 coupon for Best Buy I've been saving)

Ever heard of tax?
-
That's getting sigged… but I still don't think Roman is one of those O_o
And no one's getting my extra copy, it's going to my cousin for his birthday =D
-
@AWB:
Ever heard of tax?
Ever hear of 'The Internet'. It's a magical place where as long as the site doesn't operate out of the the state you live in, you don't pay sales tax.
Not that, at the price I estimated, sales tax will ever break $40, even in the most expensive states.
Amazon: $37.49 + 0% sales tax = $37.49
Local Retail: $34.99 + 9.4% sales tax* = $38.28
Guy who can't do math and doesn't know jack about taxes: $40Wow…. that's a great deal you've got cooked up there.
*The single highest tax rate in the country. Most states range from 5-8%

@Master:
Wow, I wonder if America will be getting the P.O.P. line of figures here?
That would kick ass, because Robin/Sogeking/any new release wouldn't be so hard to find.It's very possible for the POPs to be released here. Toynami (who might very well own the One Piece merchandising license as they're releasing the One Piece bookends) are releasing the Megahouse (the people who make the POPs) Bleach PVC statues (They're POPs, but Bleach) in the states for about $20 each.
Ready for the catch?
Here it coooomes.
They're crappy quality, worse than bootlegs. They're about 3 inches shorter than the original POPs, with a down graded sculpt, and a pretty poor paint job. Like most American toys you get. They're not worth it, unless you want to buy them to support OP in the merchandise field.
-

If you preordered it from Amazon, you can always cancel it before it ships…

Shit. Why the hell are they doing that? To make them more affordable?
Either way, it'd be nice if One Piece got the regular P.O.P.s and not the butchered ones. -

I think he's confusing shipping and taxes.
-
FUni was supposed to have these boxsets for sell @ the con I just came from but they shipped wrong or something! I was soo disappointed!
But they did this raffle for POP figures and when most people didnt claim them, they started giving out whatever POP figure you requested with every purchase of a $20 dvd! -
What ones did they have?
-
If he's talking about ACEN, they had the Skypiea Luffy, Zoro and Nami.
-
Not sure if this is old or not, but…
After months of waiting, Funimation's site is (sort of) up.
-
You're a tad late on that actually. It was posted elsewhere.
-
@Brad:

I would say no skin off my back as I have those three, but if I kept it for a year it'd probably go for $100 on eBay mint in box.
-
Nah, Buuhan
My guess is, if they were passing out Luffy Zoro and Nami they were PoP NEO rereleases, those aren't worth NEARLY As much as the older Issues XD
still maybe worth like 60 tho!! -
Did you not see where I said "but if I kept it for a year it'd probably"?
The originals were going for $60 at one time.
-
Finals end tomorrow for me. It'd be the perfect day for me to find the box set waiting in my mail box, especially now since half the people here have seen it already.
-
This post is deleted!
-
Shift… ... yes I do, I don't know why they wouldn't.
-
If they miss the connection, that's what I mean. Though it'll probably be obvious by the time it comes up. ^_^;
-
I didn't read that spoiler. You're not suppose to post spoilers out of the forum. reports

Just make sure the person who posts the spoiler isn't a mod… I'm pretty sure that's what got Taboo hating me in the first place. >.>

So, after watching the dubbed episodes, I've started checking the japanese version. The subtitles are just as good as the fansubs, I'd say. I also have to give Mato some credit for actually using "Navy" instead of "Marines" at times, so it's like "Coby wants to join the navy and become a marine", as that's a more accurate translation. I also love how FUNi always keep the honorifics in the subs, rather than translating/removing them like most other companies. All in all, this release is awesome all around. Now if they'd just stop editing the logo and title-cards, then it would be perfect.
-
I didnt buy the DVD volume yet, what kind of extras do they have? (did they mention anything about the animes return)?
-

I also saw a Bon Kurei.
I'm thinking they were originals,but I'm not sure. The box art looks pretty old skewl.
Incase your interested, the Nami sold out the quickest. -
@Jedi:

Just a creditless opening, ending, a commentary-track for episode 1 and some trailers. I'd also like to point out that the creditless opening is completely pointless, as there are no credits in the opening for the actual episodes in the first place.

Same exact thought that crossed my mind.

Yeah, I knew that SOMEONE had pointed it out before me… But seeing how he asked, I figured I should mention it anyway.
