I am not really a fan of a particular music genre to tell you the truth (you could find from Happy Hardcore Techno to classical music on my playlist) but metal is one of the music genres I listen to the least. Gotta dive in those waters more! I'll certainly find songs that'll give me that nice tingle I get when I discover a song I like~
Variety is what life is about! I'll post some random selections up for you later (so far, I've spent my entire morning in the Naruto discussion, so I should probably get out and fill a job application or two, haha).

Lol, I like how excited Mike was getting.

Oh yeah, I love Fantômas! And that video was done when King Buzzo was still with them, making it doubly awesome.

That was bloody awesome yo!

Great~! :D Thank you! ^^
(PS: I do like some Pirate Metal songs from Alestorm! :U)

For starters, Pirate Metal isn't a real genre, but if you like Alestorm and the pirate theme, you will probably like Running Wild:

Now I'm going to go by a few genres and skip the most obvious (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, etc…) for now (if you want some of that, though, I'll provide it). I'm sticking with more conventional subgenres, but I'll include the harsher ones in case you want an impression. Going from more to less accessible:

Oh, I know there's no Pirate Metal genre~! :U By Pirate Metal Songs I meant Metal songs that are pirate themed. I was just lazy at the time to say it properly. ;P
I liked the first song, 1+3 from Power Metal, 1 from Thrash Metal and 2 from Death Metal mainly because of the music. :x -
Hey, this thread is great. I've been looking for some new metal to listen to for quite a time. Time to try some stuff mentioned here.
-
I was using that more as a disclaimer to posting more pirate-themed metal, haha.
Glad to see you enjoyed some of it. It's fine if you didn't like all from the genre examples I had, since I tried to vary a bit within the genre. The question now is, where do we go from here? You'll probably relatively enjoy those songs' respective albums. That's probably as good a place as any to start, seeing as they could probably integrate you well into the experience and what you might not enjoy now could easily become more enjoyable depending on how you adapt to the listening. Also definitely check out the latest two High on Fire albums, since you liked that song. The earlier three of albums of theirs fall closer to the sludge/doom branch of the metal tree, so you may not enjoy them as much now, but you should definitely enjoy Death is this Communion and Snakes for the Divine.

If you want more of anything, I'm always glad to help.

Seems like this time I really missed something by not following the Naruto thread. Wagomu converting the forum to metal xD
-
I must admit, as an adamant metalhead, I am loving what you are doing here Wagomu. I'm loving the span of genres and the depth into the bands' catalogues. The only thing I see missing is more progressive metal.

Why thank you! I was thinking of doing a prog metal section, but most of the prog metal bands I love can be put under other blankets for a basic genre spread. I snuck Hammers of Misfortune into the power metal section, though .
-
It has elements of both so its understandable although genres can be very finicky. I would love to hear what suggestions you have for prog though.
-
I don't know a lot of straight prog metal bands. Hammers is certainly my favorite. Voivod is a fantastic classic band, though, and I love Devin Townsend's proggier projects. There are also the classic tech bands like Nocturnus and especially Atheist (Gnostic isn't either bad, but not nearly as good as Atheist). Of course you can't miss Cynic or Gordian Knot either. If we're going more underground, I love bands like Amaseffer, Jonas Hellborg's Art Metal (if you qualify it as metal) and Shining. I probably have less prog metal than any other subgenre besides power, though. I tend to love prog rock much more than prog metal (I can go on for hours about everything from krautrock to zeuhl).
-
Those Black Metal songs took out 50% of my iPod's battery life. Don't know if that's just coincidental.
That being said, Thrash and Sludge is about as heavy as I go, usually.
-
Black metal is something I can understand being inaccessible. It almost seeks to be that way both musically and lyrically, but I enjoy a lot of it.
The main black metal band I listen to out of those recs is Peste Noire. If you like shoegaze/post-punk stuff and can take some black metal influences, I would highly recommend Amesoeurs and Alcest, both by the same dude.
The recent wave of black metal bands has actually been fantastic, and that encompasses Peste Noire and Woe. Panopticon's release last year was phenomenal, in particular, though.

But it's not everyone's cup of tea and it's fine if you're not a fan.
-
I'm a big Power metal fan and with Sabaton being my favorite band I thought i'd post a couple of songs from their newest album. :)
This one is my favorite:
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="
"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src=" " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></object>But all of them are really good. ( At least to me )
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="
"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src=" " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></object><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="
"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src=" " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></object>I love how they pick battles from the world wars and make lyrics based on them, then mixed together with their sound, it really makes the songs sound epic.
On another note. Wagomu, what are some of the other power metal bands? I already know and listen to quite a few but i'm sure there are some i missed an i like to widen my horizon. :)
-
Again, power metal is not my forte. There's the bands I mentioned that I'm sure you know as well as other base-level ones that I'm sure you know (Iced Earth, Manowar, Blind Guardian etc…). Aside from that, there's always Slough Feg (the main project from the dude behind Hammers of Misfortune), Brocas Helm and Liege Lord (who I discovered just the other day), but they're closer to the heavy metal end of the spectrum. That's about the gist of what I listen to from the genre, though, since I haven't taken much interest. I hear Jag Panzer, Angra and Agent Steel are great as well, though.
-
I find power metal to be one of the widest subgenres just because it contains a variety of styles, from the more melodic bands such as Edguy
oK_MO5SsSSMto the darker, previously mentioned, and totally kickass, Brocas Helm
hJx-rjIUwGgto the more thrash-like, mixed vocal powerhouse that is 3 Inches of Blood

I'm not a big fan of Edguy, but 3 Inches are always fun. Power metal isn't nearly as variable as doom metal, though, which actually includes sludge, along with stoner, drone and some instances of post-metal.
This is doom:

Any love for The Sword, Wagomu?

Hey you guys should know this.
Is there any strain of annoying artists popping up who clearly have no sort of comprhension of the metal world, and clearly don't belong to it in any sense of the word "belong". But make metal music (probably crappy) and through it try to decry metal norms or make false perceptions of metal? While acting as if they're saving it? -
You mean the nu metal bands? No, wait, that was the 90s. You mean the deathcore bands?
Any love for The Sword, Wagomu?
The sword are pretty good. I have a couple friends who are obsessed with them. I'm not that far into them, but I'll definitely spin an album of theirs every once in a while.

They hire whoever for that job, the one around where I live hired an almost completely disabled person(had to use mouth based controls) to ride up and down the sidewalk in his Rascal, kinda disturbing.
-
Haha. That's probably what I would do if I took a job like that.
I haven't been discovering new metal for a while. I went through a period of minimum downloading out of laziness, and now that I've come around, I've been searching things like no wave. I did get out to an awesome show about a week ago featuring Tombs, Black Anvil, Nachtmystium, Brutal Truth and Eyehategod. I also caught Rich Hoak's drum stick and shook hands with all the members of Eyehategod.
As for albums, I really need to give that new Black Breath a spin, since I hear it's quite awesome.

Indie metal? Do you mean independent or are you describing a genre that doesn't exist?
-
Nothing I say can prepare you for this (unless you already know)
I heard the music first and still thought it was a hoax until I actually saw Christopher in the video.
