Lobster, what ur not getting is that although they aren't EXACTLY the same as every anime(every series usually has tiny touches that make the art their own), overall they blend in to the traditional way to draw anime. Look at Bleach alongside 50 other anime titles and it won't stand out. Look @ One Piece's art alongside 50 other manga titles and it does standout.

MY dvr glitched and I couldnt watch last weeks episode anymore and had to delete it. it sucks because I'd been recording every single one up till now.

If you want to rewatch eps you can always find them online, at places like Youtube and Veoh. :)

Lobster…stop trying to insist all those shows you mentioned have unique art styles. Kubo and Kishimoto draw in a generic anime style, they do add their own touches but overall you can instantly tell it's a japanese manga. Toriyama's art may not be AS original as Oda's, but you can tell he drew it and he makes his style his own. The thing that I noticed that's similar in Oda and Toriyama's art is that they give the males "dot-eyes", while giving the females generic girly anime eyes.

I was thinking about it before, but once the Funi dub /does/ get more popular, won't floods of dubbies start coming to this forum? I really hope this place isn't completely overrun by illiterate preteens... but also it could generate problems seeing as they'll only be up to Skypiea and presumably the majority of them won't know what comes after that. They'll be continuously stumbling across spoilers... that would really suck. I remember how devastated I was when a comment on an online video said that Ace died later on, and I was only up to Alabasta so like... ughh I hate spoilers. Hopefully there'll be a way to avoid that happening for the dubbies.

Ahh no I'm not new to One Piece. I was talking about way back hehe. Well, early last year, if I remember correctly. Though in a way yes the Funimation dub did spark my interest in One Piece again because once I caught up with the anime and manga I got bored of waiting for each new ep/chapter so I kind of forgot about it for a while, but then when the Funi dub came out I got back into it and caught up again. :)

This whole discussion about art-styles deserves its own thread if it doesn't have one already. If no one volunteers I'll be compelled to post it myself. But the last thing I'll say is that while you can't judge something without comparing to its kin, the only true way to see what defines something is to judge it individually. That's what I mean when I say all cartoons are in the same family, they all have their own identity depending on how its creator(s) treat it, how much freedom they give it, but are the same exact form of expression. The only reason certain cultures have a certain "style" is because, naturally, people from the same nation have a more similar mindset compared to people from another nation.

I guess if that did happen the mods would just have to make a seperate dub only sub forum. Though I like being spoiled. So me being spoiled back when I was just starting skypiea and Water 7 was starting in the manga didn't really bug me, but I know there are people who do hate spoilers for whatever reason.

If FUNimation had gotten "One Piece" back in 2003/2004, they would've just gotten it on Toonami with a broadcast dub similar to "Dragonball" and "Yuyu Hakusho", meaning it would be edited down to a Y7 level, but still stay very close to the original Japanese version as much as possible. We would've gotten alcohol and tobacco references edited but the story and most of the violence (guns would stay but no excessive amounts of blood) would stay pretty much the same, plus we'd have great voice-acting, dialogue and the original music.

I think it would've been more popular from the start, Cartoon Network would be trying to headline it for the 2003 season of Toonami, and if it premiered in 2004 Toonami it would've made for an even greater transition for Toonami when it moved to Saturday nights. A new major series would've gone very well with that big of a transition for the block and it would've made for heavier promotion. And while I'm sure Cartoon Network would've promoted "Naruto" just as much as it has now regardless, they certainly would've done a little more for "One Piece" since they'd have another headliner until "Naruto" would arrive. As to how much more popular it would've been, I don't know. I don't think it would've exceeded "Naruto".

The cool thing about this is, we'll probably see a trailer and find out who's who MUCH sooner than originally anticipated. Also maybe they can drop hints if they're really planning to do Movie 9 next.

Sounds interesting. Does anyone know at which point they recorded the voices in terms of how far through the TV dub they were? It'll give a good indication of what we'll end up with if they dubbed it after they finished the TV dubbing, seeing as it usually takes voice actors a while to get to know the characters and find the voice that really suits them. Umm I hope that made sense… eheh...

Not necessarily true. Mike Mcfarland confirmed at a recent convention that the voice actors listed on different sites haven't been confirmed at all and are actually false.

ANN, for SOME reason, is listing the movie as "Episode of Alabaster" and has been since it was announced for japanese theatres. However, "The Right Stuff", the only site taking preorders on the DVDs, has changed the title to "Episode of Alabasta".
My Guess is, ANN for SOME REASON, thinks, and has thought since it first came out in Japan, that the movie is SUPPOSED to be called "Alabaster" and thusly has been calling it that in all their articles.

Let's hope, though, that Vivi finally gets a good voice. And that they use that voice when they dub the episodes. And that they finally pronounce Vivi's name right. And that movie 10 is better.

Even so, it's our only way of hearing the Alabasta voices (and if I recall, there is a quick flashback of Jaguar D. Saul before he dies telling Robin she'll never be alone before Robin jumps onto the Going Merry) as soon as possible.

First of all, "Vih-vee" is just as correct of a pronounciation as "Vee-vee". It's a to-may-to to-mah-to thing. Personally I like the way 4Kids pronounced it, gave a bit of an elegant ring to her name that fitted the character.

Secondly, you can't pass judgement on Movie 9 until it comes out. Just because it follows Movie 8 and is a similar retelling doesn't mean one can't be good. That's like saying, "Oh the upcoming filler will suck because the last filler arc did" Really poor logic.

I'm kinda hopin' that Movie 10 is a retelling of the Kuro arc. I dunno why, it was my favorite story arc in the series. But being serious, Movie 10 could be a retelling of the Enies Lobby storyline. That'd be awesome.

Or, Movie 10 will be an original storyline. I'm leaning more towards that one.

Reason why someone should try asking Mike or Justin. I still think Movie 9's next for them because it allows them to cast previously established characters without having to go back and do the actual episodes, and basically "retcon" the 4Kids version. The same way Movie 8 will. I know it's been said before, I can't wait to have the older movies especially 2, 4, and 6 on DVD.

The emphasis of the word is not the first syllable.

Yeah everyone knows that, but it's more natural for English speakers to say it that way because we do not have double consonants in English like in Japanese. Even I say it that way. We also don't say "Usoppu".

It doesn't sound very natural. There's too big a pause between syllables.

Usopp is one of those words that technically has two syllables, but you say it like it's one. You cut the "ooo" short and skip to the "Sop".

uso (means "lie" in Japanese) + ppu probably meant as a pun between uso and Aesop.
