Which is one of the reasons I'm glad FUNi acquired the license.
If Viz have gotten it, it'd probably have been put in the back burner for more, you guessed it, Naruto.

Yeah as long as Naruto's popular Viz won't allow anything else on Toonami's block to overshadow it.
And no one answered my question about the wii. :(
I have confidence in One Piece eventually overpowering Naruto or at least becoming as popular on Cartoon Network due to it being a great series. Honestly, even with CN being anal too it, they can't stop it. It's in too good of hands now to be stopped.
Oh, yeah, Demon Rin, how'd they handle Mihawk and his crosses? Did they edit them? I know he came in the very end of one of the episodes you saw.
Mihawk… I know it only showed his sword, none of the other crosses, and If I remember right, it was left normal.
I'm really REALLY sorry guys, I remember some things easy, but some things are harder to remember, because I didn't think to pay attention to certain things. There was such a big Oni-con thread, that I didn't expect everyone to get drunk and not show, so me being the only one here who saw it was totally unexpected
Also, he told me the name of the guy who sings We Are, and I BELIEVE it's Jerry Jewel (Barry The Chopper in FMA), but I may be wrong on that one, for some reason I totally spaced that name after he told me.
Well still thanks for the info. It's nice to know at least that the game is going to be really good when it get's brought here.
It's gonna be mayhem in this thread when episode 151 airs, look at all the characters which appear in it.
Doflamingo
Bartholomew Bear (tho I don't think he talks)
Lafitte
Mihawk
4 elder stars
Tsuru (old woman)
Sengoku
Whitebeard
Rockstar
Shanks (tho we've heard him already..but only one line)
Yassop
Ben Beckmen
Lucky Roux
God damn almighty.
not to mention that's the episode when Bellamy gets his ass handed to him
yeah this thread is gonna asplode!
We also get the still frame of the Blackbeard pirates (as pointed out by Rin) that will finally show if they're keeping "Jesus". Tho that really doesn't matter for shit.
We'll probably see ten million posts from people going "I CAME!" when those episodes air.
i always felt bad because I did NOT appreciate that episode when I first saw it. I thought it was boring and to be honest, I was disappointed that Luffy and Bellamy didn't have an all out brawl and then I was like "Who cares about these people? Just get to Luffy and stuff!".. but now that I know how important it is, I'm really looking forward to it.
Well I know some would think I'm wrong but the action is never always the most important part of a series. I like how One Piece isn't all fights.
One Piece is the only Shounen I've ever seen that balances the Action, Drama, and Comedy as perfectly as it does. It's why it's one of my 2 Favorite series' (I like Hellsing Equally as much XP)
I like the action but I love it how One Piece always has such a deep background to the fights, and there's always reasons for you to want them to kick the bad guy's ass, and not just for the fact that they're the designated bad guy.
I agree with that. I love the fact that One Piece is more about the story, and the fights are just the icing on the cake.
and I appreciate that a lot more now… ahh now naive I was back then ^_^
By the way, Que. Rin was telling me how you were interested in who sang We Are but she couldn't remember who. She told me she thinks it's someone by the name "Jerry Jewel" but she can't be positive.
wait what? I said that?..
Actually Rin posted this:

so yeah I think you guys might be right. I'm not really sure who that is, but I'm sure it'll be great none the less… you know Funi is doing their job if they make me tear up during that scene because honestly, I cannot watch that scene in Japanese without tearing up...
I don't even know why XD
He's a voice actor for FUNimation. You probably know him best as Jimmy Kudo in Case Closed, Barry the Chopper in Fullmetal Alchemist, and Jin in Yu Yu Hakusho.
Yeah I would know that voice. Heh I can't wait to see that version of We Are then. Looks like it'll be interesting.

Besides Lucky Roux, I want to hear the Goat.
I can't wait to hear all those voices in a few episodes especially Doflamingo and Lafitte. I can't wait till they switch to Bon Voyage too and I also want to hear We Are. The song I'm most looking foward to though is Kokoro no Chizu since it's one of my favorite openings. I wonder if they'll keep the 2 and a half minute openings though. They probably will though since there's no ending.

Or as Kyo from Fruits Basket, if you're a girl.
I didn't know Jerry Jewel was a singer, but I think his voice will fit pretty well for We Are. That's gonna be awesome. Thanks for the info Rin.
Well, I watched that Bellamy scene. Uh…gotta say I'm not exactly impressed with the dialogue. Yeah, it sounds closer to the original Japanese, but that's part of the problem, it sounds a little too literal.
"When I see people chasing dreams of One Piece, I get disgusted!"
'I get disgusted'...that just sounds awkward. 'I'm disgusted' or 'XXXX disgusts me' perhaps but that's way too literal a translation. There's just no feeling in it when it's directly translated.
Whatever, I never intended to watch the dub, I just figured I'd weigh in having seen more than just the intro episode on Youtube.
Oh, I think FUNimation's VA's still lack talent in delivery. Although Buggy's voice (which I heard good things about) sounds right, the delivery is so bland it bores me.
Procede with the deluge of, "Hey! They're much better than 4Kids!" No shit. But aside from the FMA dub (I only saw an episode but it was a great dub) everything they put out just sounds like the 3rd season of DBZ to me. Flame as you like.
I gotta disagree on the whole DBZ Season 3 comment. I've practically seen almost everything FUNi's presented and absolutely nothing else they've done comes close to their representation of Season 3 of DBZ or the rest of the Dragon Ball franchise.
I also noticed you mentioned being keen towards the Ocean Group dub, which would be nice except they were absolutely horrible when doing Europe's dub for the Cell saga and up. Hell, Scott McNeil, Brian Drummond and Ian Corlette were probably the only good actors for DBZ when it came to Seasons 1 & 2.
Behold the Ocean dub's version of Super Saiyan 2 Gohan. Here's Vegeta's Super Saiyan transformation.Point to all this? FUNi's DBZ dubs can't be compared to their others as they're amateurish at best compared to their other shows. The Ocean Group's dub isn't any better either. Especially Tenshinhan's god awful voice actor in Ocean.
Jerry Jewell also sang the 4th ending for YuYu Hakusho. Here's the video if any of you want to hear what he sounds like.

I knew he sung a song before. (I absolutely loved the English version of "The Sun Will Shine Again.")
He sung that ending? o.o I loved that ending!
Ah good ol yu yu hakusho, I miss that show. goes to rewatch I think he can do a goos We Are but did you say hes doing Believe also?
We Are but did you say hes doing Believe also?
But Believe was original sung by a woman…
exactly, and I thought that was mentioned earlier so I'm confused now.
nice to hear sabat using his "tough yamcha voice for the attack names.. sure at first he kinda sounded like piccolo but now i hear him using his regular voice more which suits zoro
Ah, nothing like a classic Ocean vs. Funimation argument to make you fully appreciate how great this place is. There are alot of misconceptions about why the Ocean dub exists. Tsukento, I believe you said in an earlier post that Funimation couldn't release their dub internationally. That's not exactly true, so I'll explain it.
Funimation initially released their dub internationally through Saban when they were partners. After they split up, FUNi continued to show their new in-house dub. But when it came time to release the show on VHS and DVD, then they had a problem. They couldn't afford to hire a sub-licensor to release the videos in those countries, let alone release it themselves. While they were able to get Madman Entertainment to release their dub in Australia, they couldn't do anything about the Canadian and European markets.
Enter Westwood Studios. From what I heard, Westwood came to FUNi and offered to release DBZ for them. But they wouldn't release the FUNi dub. Instead, they would produce their own dub and pay FUNi royalties in exchange for being able to show it. FUNi really didn't have any other options, so they agreed. Westwood then hired Ocean Studios to dub the show for them, hiring nearly all of the original cast, with the notable exception of Lalainia Lindbjerg (Bulma), who was replaced with Maggie Blue O'Hara (my absolute favorite female VA, by the way).
Since FUNi didn't have the rights to the DBZ music, Westwood certainly couldn't use it. Instead, they used the music they had produced for the Mega Man and Monster Rancher cartoons, as well as a few original pieces. This worked out for them because they could collect more royalties from the composers, much like 4Kids does. The video tracks were exactly the same as what FUNi had used. The scripts were also almost exact copies, with the notable exception being that most references to death and killing are removed. So in Canada and Europe, beginning on English episode 108, which is Japanese episode 123, the Ocean dub premiered.
So there you have it, that's how the Ocean dub came to be. I tend to think the the Ocean actors have a certain amount of believability that the FUNi actors sorely lacked, but thats just my opinion.
I'm more of a Funi fan with dbz but to each his own i sopose.
Also theres a small problem with your explaination. I live in Canada and we got the funi dub up untill the end of the cell games.
I dunno. If you listen to the Ocean Dub now, it's still got that "We're trying too hard" feeling. If anything, I'll likely say the voice direction is to blame as their true shining moments were during the movies, when Pioneer (now known as Geneon) was helping them out rather than Saban or some other company. Other than that, only Scott, Brian and Ian stood out from the rest of the cast as being any good. But even then, Ian was gone mid-way into Season 2 and Brian's acting wasn't the same as it was before when he played Vegeta.
Either way, the whole point was that DBZ's acting in English was never that great and shouldn't be compared to FUNi's other, more superior works. :P

That's weird. I guess it was only Europe that began on ep 108. I know that for a fact because a have a tape of it. Mistake on my part, sorry.
I don't think the Funimation cast sounds anything remotely close to what they were like when they started dubbing Dragonball Z. Chris Sabat tried to imitate Ryan Drummond's voice when he did Vegeta, and sounded horrible. They've drastically improved, and even though the actors in One Piece are still trying to fit into their characters' shoes I still can't believe how much of the same vibe from the Japanese version it gives me whenever I hear them.
I mentioned that Robin's voice has a bit of a monotone feel to it. Sure, she sounds intelligent, but when she's explaining something it sounds like I'm listening to a recording at a museum (Like in 144 when she's explaining what craterization is. Ocean mentioned he thought the same thing) But, she's sort of always been like that. I'm just wondering if Stephanie will be able to pull off Robin in Enies Lobby.
Either way you look at it, Robin's current voice actress sounds rather hot when she's voicing Robin. Can't say the same for when Veronica Taylor voiced Robin for the 4Kids dub. :P
I think Veronica's Robin would have been pretty damn good if she just lost the accent. It's irrelevant now, though, seeing as Robin's current voice is perfect.

Yeah, that and I can't imagine the accent when she's yelling "I want to live" out to the Strawhats.

I agree too :p
So, Zoro's attack names might stay Japanese for the Funi dub will they?
For the game atleast is seems so. Meaning that we most likly get them for the dvds. Who the hell knows about the tv version though.
According to what's being said in Unlimited Adventure, it appears to be a possibility.
As for cowgirl Robin, she'd probably have shouted "I WANNA LIVE, YA HEAR?" :p
Something tells me that Saul would have gotten a german accent. Iunno why….
"RUN, ROBIN! GET TO DA BOAT!"
G-Zass Christ…
he says oni giri so maybe it will be like that on the t.v version
@RPG:
he says oni giri so maybe it will be like that on the t.v version
Using that same logic, he would be "Zoro" on the TV version.
@RPG:

He said Oni Giri in the 4Kill version (yeah, I know, right?), too. If CN (or who ever the hell) wants consistency, maybe it'll be Oni Giri in the new FUNi TV version.
I remember Zoro said that he used "santoryu" in the first episode he appeared in, but he called it "triple sword force" when he was fighting Mr. 1. I'm not sure if they did this with his attack names too.
i know names not going to change but the attacks besides chopper's might be the same just saying
