@ABSMr.Prince:
Okay so I'm cosplay Shaggy from scooby doo, Does anyone know where I could find bell bottom pants? (In either brown or white?) The thrift stores an option but anyone who knows cosplay knows its completley luck based…
I would go to a store that specifically sells pants (there aren't that many of them I'm sure so you'll have to hunt one down). I know places like The Gap and Old Navy sell bell bottom pants but I doubt they might be in white or brown. Especially now that its summer, pants besides nice slacks and jeans aren't really being advertised. I'd definately try Old Navy because they seem to have a greater variety of pant colors then The Gap.
Ohhh, well I know they sell WOMEN'S bell bottoms, I'm not ENTIRELY sure they sell those cuts in men's.
((and I LOVE your avvy btw, that is hilarious XDDD))
@Diphenhydramine:
What do parents who disapprove of cosplay actually say? I mean, I guess I could understand if a parent saw their 13 year old going in one of Nami's bikini tops or something, there's definitely a limit to appropriateness, but I can't see how a parent could actually believe that cosplaying is wrong?
Loads of things. For most people it tends to be that it's a waste of money (money that could be in savings or going towards college or bills, etc.) or a waste of time doing something more "constructive" (and sometimes that word can be subjective, but parents think it could be time spent studying, working, etc.) Cosplay is a much healthier hobby then spending every free second in front of the TV or computer for sure.
Now as for cosplay being WRONG, obviously on a religious level some people will have a problem with the crossplay, applying to both genders. Crossdressing is seen as a form of homosexuality by some folks. They don't see it as girls dressing up as males because that's they're favorite character, and vice versa.
In series like One Piece that are ultimately male dominated, there's going to be crossplay all over the place. It doesn't help that in ALOT of anime/manga, the girls are dressed a little more hoochy then some of us would like, so girls opt to cosplay the male characters instead.
I would think parents would be more relieved the girl was dressing up as an anime guy rather then a hoochy girl but, whatever XD
