Yeah Skypiea Nami's got the most leg coverage, unless you want to go for something like a colorspread or special edition version (like New Year's Specials, movies, etc.)

So, I wanted to be Franky more than ANYTHING for AX but as I started work on my costume my mom informed me that I was in no way allowed to be Franky. I may be 18 and moving out in September but I decided not to go against her word, because she REALLY did not want me to be Franky, saying I'll shame the family and it's immoral to dress like that for attention (totally NOT why I was doing it).
So anyways, I've recently converted two friends to One Piece and they've both gotten hardcore, citing One Piece as the first series they've become obsessed with in forever (it's basically the favorite of both of them from what I can tell), so they wanted to do a trio costume with me for AX.
We were going to do Spandem-Lucci-Kaku, with me as Kaku, but the girlfriend of the pair wanted to be Luffy more than she wanted to be Spendem (it's close).
So if she's Luffy, me and her boyfriend could be any two characters from the series and it'd be cool, right? But no, she doesn't like Luffy's normal costume enough XD I wanted to be Inazuma too, but it's cool I guess ^ ^; Maybe I could do two OP costumes and say screw it to Russia?
Anyways, we're doing the MONSTER TRIO from Alabasta. It's going to be epic. I'm Sanji, of course, because I can play the role oh so well, but the worst part is, when I come running to beautiful girls and try to complement and feed them, I'll be SINCERE. EGADS. At least I'll finally be able to FEEL like a gentlemen instead of just getting called one.
So fantastic women of Arlong Park (and god knows there are way more off you than one would expect on a nerdy internet forum), beware of an Alabasta Sanji XD

I did find some Capri's at JC Pennys yesturday too that would be GREAT only I didn't buy them. I plan to loose more weight before tackling Nami, so those size 12's just won't do :3

I am NOT sure right now if my sis and I will be going to Animefest. If we even got to go, it's during a Holiday weekend like it is every year since the beginning of time, so I won't be able to ask for it off. I'd only be able to go after I got off work on Saturday morning, get there around 1pm and have to leave early Monday. SOOOOOOO I'm not sure. How far away is Baton Rouge from Houston? I guess I could look that up…We are thinking we might try and hit up Oni-con? o___o

It takes about 3 hours from Houston to Baton Rouge, if you're going 80 mph whole way, nonstop.
You should go to Oni-Con, IMO. They've moved to a new hotel just for this year (I think they should just avoid the GRB altogether, IMO), and the rate per night is too good ($99/night).

Oni-Con's known for getting a really good hotel room rate for ages now; they've been around since 2004, and basically set up the anime convention scene in Houston, so I guess they have enough of a backing.
There's that known fact, and the fact that a hotel rates in Houston are typically a lot lower in the fall than in any of the other seasons.
Also Neko, if Ms Cricket and yourself are looking for modding material for your henshin belts, I ran into a gold mine of very excellent military belts at an army surplus store 5 minutes away from my house.

4. Press/Industry?Not everyone is "enlightened" nor does everyone want to be. However, I am a big fan of "converting" people to cosplay, which so far I've gotten 3 of my friends into trying sometime this year.

I personally go to conventions to socialize and meet new people/fans of the things I like. In the past three conventions I've attended alone, I've met a large handful of tokusatsu fans.
Cosplaying is just an added bonus, IMO. I mean, it's nice to dress up as my favorite characters in any particular fandom, but only if I have the appropriate budget for it.
Ichnob basically answered everything with his four-phase solution, with #1 and #4 completely pulling me by the reigns, lol.

sounds like my sis and myself would be the only ones cosplaying from One Piece if we're able to go to Oni-Con… well I know for one I'd REALLY like to have Gekko Moria done x____x; I wanted to make that costume LAST YEAR and didn't have any motivation and now I have motivation but no monies =___= but I am GETTING MONIES OH I SO AM. I can NOT do without cosplay O__O
and again.... I know people are WAY different than I am... but I feel that when I'm not in cosplay at a convention... I am a very VERY BORING person. Awwww Well XD I have a rule where I NEVER EVER EVER go to a con without cosplaying. EVER. Nothing wrong with people who don't cosplay, obviously cons are full of non-cosplayers, but myself, yeah, I'll be toting my cosplay butt around the con in my awesometastic cosplays :D Still, I'm not sure if we're going to Oni-con, but I'll definately consider it ^___^ I'm hoping she lets us go to Tokyo in Tulsa. Hmmm I've thought of going to Oni-con but I don't think I could manage going down there this year because I plan on going to Anime Boston next year DX Sometime I must hit Oni though. Is it really worth it? I'm up near Dallas, I wonder if its worth the drive/hotel.
I knew a lot of people who went to Ikkicon this year and were really dissapointed to drive all that way, spend a bunch on the hotel, and not really do more then just hang out.

It sounds like it's just a gathering place for peeps to hang out, where as I usually go to cosplay and hang out and get a ton of idiotically retarded pictures taken :D That's always an objective. But yeah, my sis and I are planning to hit up AX next year, I got my fingers crossed x_x;; I dunno who all here will be trying to go, but I have been wanting to go for YEARS now, and it's about time.

We were hoping to make it to AX this year but it just wasn't feasible. People were getting too antsy about pre-reg not opening up so we could buy plane tickets/hotel room early. We're trying for Anime Boston next year, and though its going to cost about the same to go to as AX it's a bit smaller, and as most of us have not really hit out of state cons before we'll see how this goes before planning another run to AX.
Besides I totally need epic historic shipyard backgrounds for Young Iceberg photoshoot because going to the lake is SO not the same thing…

That's what I heard, that nothing really at ALL happened. I was on the fence about it but decided not to go last minute, really glad I didn't. We can totally hang out without having to go across the state and pay a bunch of money lol. Plus Yulecon is REALLY good for that too.
Totally wish I could make San Japan but that's cutting it way too close to AFest DX Maybe next year, because I'm not going all out with a hotel room and stuff for A-Kon. Though convenient, it so wasn't worth it this year.

I think they're doing Yulecon this year, but it's not in December? I dunno if I'll be able to swing it sadly, as it's a 4+ hour drive from the shithole I live in =_=;

Yeah Yulecon is happening this year. Not sure on the dates, but PirateNeko did the artwork for it, and it looks AMAZING! I wore my Nami to Yulecon last year and I froze.
Moonneko, I can help you with contacts. Used to wear them all the time. For some reason I have issues with them now. I've got a card for some contact place, I'll try to find it for you.

Yulecon is Nov 20-22 this year.
We had alot of fun last year, but it was more about making the fun with your fellow congoers then actually participating in stuff. They're still a new con working out the kinks, but I'm sure it will be even better this year, and it was tons of fun before. Also a good time to break out the cosplays for good photoshoots you normally don't have the time to at other cons, and the things that are unbearably warm to wear to other places XD
Thank goodness, it totally will not encroach on my free steak dinner this year. Huzzah. (delicious steak is delicious).
I need some contacts but I'm afraid my eyes would freak out and it would be totally uncomfortable having something in there when I don't wear contacts or glasses normally XD

I've rarely seen anyone wearing a press badge actually cosplay. Most professional photographers don't cosplay either. Those who do are mostly from websites either just starting or I've never heard of. Probably part of the stigma that they're there for work and business.
Also, not many industry people will cosplay either. Industry includes special guests of honor, company representatives and employees, etc. Since they have to appear professional when they're out meeting fans or appearing at panels, most of them want to appear professional out of respect for their business.
That's not saying there aren't people from those categories that don't cosplay. Adam Savage of Mythbusters fame attended one day of Comic Con last year as Hellboy. No one recognized him, but a lot of people took his pictures. Last year's AX guest of honor Shokotan is a cosplayer/model. And then there's booth babes. So I'm not saying that there aren't exceptions. It's just that generally, those belonging to #4 have other reasons not to dress up besides #1-3.

When I see VA's cosplay.. I think it's the COOLEST THING IN THE WORLD.. oh my god.. just.. WOW.. amazing XDDD I only know of like 2 who have I think x_x; If I were a VA i would sooo cosplay.. soooooo would. I can see why they don't but yeah, I soooo would.

Yeah I've only seen one kind of industry guest ever cosplay. Most companies require the professional attire or casual business attire even at conventions.
I don't see how it would detract to have employees and reps cosplay as long as it was tasteful, but I guess it just depends.
