Calm down, Greg… It was the same with me, and my download took whole 10 hours... And I've put it in, one hour after it was released... Major suck-age, I would say...
But hey, so you can procrastinate the whole thing a while longer, and so, enjoy it much more... (Yeah, I'm kind of kidding. As you can see, you are not the only one with that problem. See Yoska, and myself talking out of experience.)
Now I'm waiting for your summary. ^^
LOST Season 4 *Spoilers Abound!*
-
-
man that was a great final just gutted now i got to wait nearly a year for next season :( lol
-
I've never watched Lost, I don't know the story, the characters, or what the fuck went on.
I watched tonight's season finale. Of course being my first lost episode I didn't know wtf was up, but I just was randomly flipping through and decided to stay. Boy was I confused.
I nominate this as Funniest Post of the Multiverse for Infinity.
Anyway, I'm gonna have to be the odd one out here I suppose.
Yes I liked it. Yes I'm happy. But….I don't think it was all that great.
BUT WHY GREG? YOU SODOMIZING WHORE-MONGER!?
Few reasons. If you'll kindly indulge me.
1. WAY too much happened.
This is something we can't really blame anyone for (well technically we could) but this seems to be the result of how LOST was impacted by the Writer's Strike. There was almost so much ridiculously important shit going on that in some cases, I don't think enough time was devoted to it. The whole helicopter landing/freighter exploding thing was just strange as hell with people milling about. I don't get it. They weren't informed of the bombs? Welll okay, then why were they running around with life jackets? Ad if they were running around with life jackets, why wasn't there a WAR transpiring for seats on the heli? Probably easily explainable, but some more time and attention to detail would have made it felt a LOT more like a typical SOLID scenario from the show and not a, "HEY! BOO!! BLAH!!!! LOOK OVER THERE! SHIT HAPPENING! FORGET ABOUT REASON! WHAT??? REASON!!!??? WHO SAID REASON!!!??? ACK!!! SUN, BABY, DRAMA!!! LOOK!!!!"
Another example. Sawyer jumping off the heli. wtf-mate? He's what? 200 pounds? That's gonna give the massive metal contraption THAT much more fuel time? Odd. And what's even more strange? His last request to Kate. What? You mean to tell me in all that time they didn't inform him of the raft making runs?
And don't even get me started on the shallowness of the Jin scenario. We don't see him before it explodes and it just so happens that Daniel and red-shirts happen to be heading towards the wreck? Come on guys.
HOWEVER, I'm glad the pace slowed waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay the hell down whenever Ben and Locke were so much as in the frame. Their chemistry ALONE made the episode.
2. Coffin predictability
I think I jumped on the John Locke boat not long after viewing the Season 3 finale. I simply reasoned that after that episode, and considering their chemistry THROUGHOUT the show, who would Jack have reason to fall apart over the least. Yep. Ben just seemed WAY to obvious given how much they tried to build up the animosity between the two in Season 3.
However, I will say this, the finale did throw me for a loop twice with respect to whom I thought would be within, and that is to its credit. At first I expected it to be a completely new character when they announced the name. Then, like Data in First Contact, I reasoned in 0.000006 seconds that, that had to be bullshit. And as the episode went on and it became clear that Ben was BANISHED WTFJESUSCHRISTMONKEYBALLS from the island, I was convinced it was him until he came out from behind Jack and scared the shit out of us both. Even then I half expected him to say, "Now close up my coffin, it's disrespectful to me." But no, Mr. Locke eh? I will admit defeat because they got me fair and square but it wasn't as good as something I would never have expected to begin with. This goes back to Season 3. It was a poor ass choice to use a name starting with a J in the newspaper clipping.
3. One minute of Miles.
ARE YOU SHITTING ME!?
4. Charlotte being from the island.
If she is, I saw it in her eyes from the moment she landed. Some thought she was excited to find a place she was searching for. That scene struck me rather as if she'd finally come home. Again, wasn't as shocked as I'd like to have been.
5. Checkmate Mr. Eko???
Who thought that was a good idea? Not even a cameo? Seriously?
You know, it's no use to compare this to the Season 3 finale. The Season 3 finale is like….it's like Chrono Trigger. No matter how hard they try, even if you've got many of the same people together, trying to do the same thing, you'll never do it better. I dare say there will never be a moment in television like the Season 3 finale again. Television might just as well have been invented to let that 5 or so minute segment play out before our eyes and flip a story on its head in THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE that we'd been following for three years.
So in that respect, I appreciate the finale in it's own right. It's eons better than the first and it makes mincemeat of the second and both of those were better than most seasons of television combined so in other words, it was REALLY good, but...I think there were a few normal episodes this season stronger than this.
And now, the part I wished would never come. We're coming down to the wire folks. Less than 40 episodes of this amazing program left and...yeah...I'm kinda scared. I'm starting to worry about some of those fears which I frequently skewered myself, will they answer all the questions?
We already know they won't address the events that immediately followed the hatch implosion (explosion?) and why Desmond was naked, Charlie was walking around just dandy and Eko was in a tree. Not to mention Locke being in pretty good shape. That's bullshit. Then there's that 'Sheriff' of the Others who disappeared and was later confirmed as a dead character. Huh?
I know they're going to answer big important questions. I think it's pretty goddamned obvious they know where they're going. But if more stuff the likes of which I mentioned above get left out, I will lose some of my respect for it, and feel kind of like an ass for bitching out people who said they wouldn't answer everything. With the count down dwindling, I'm wondering if they can afford to give everything the detail it deserves.
Ben was genius though. Really. Oh speaking of which. The two story points I was very much in love with.
1. Freighties VS Others & Sayid the Machine
Woah! I NEVER expected that to play out in the early moments of the episode. How about that? Totally took me by surprise.
2. Ben in Ben-anished
WOAH! WOOOOOOOOOOOOAH!!!!! NEVER did I expect that to play out the way it did. Ben travelling to the point from episode 9? Yeah, I totally expected that. But holy shit, permanently? Wow! I wonder how he gets around! Seems like he's basically crippled just as the rest are now. How about that. VERY interesting. Can't wait to see where that goes.
JULIET YOU'VE BECOME SO BORING THE PEOPLE WRITING YOUR SCENES DON'T LOVE YOU ANYMORE
Anyway, excellent Lost finale. If not pleasing, it was at worst satisfying to see that chapter of the story come to a close.
Oh, Senshi, excellent observation. IF it gets addressed I'm gonna guess he saw Kate from behind NEAR the helicopter and then on it but couldn't clearly see her but assumed it was her because of Aaron.
Plus....you never know....maybe we haven't gone that far yet.
Oh, one other thing. How they dealt with Michael was pure shit. Pure shit.
Lindelof tells TV Guide: "Michael had an incredibly heroic, noble death. He sacrificed his own life to redeem himself for past mistakes and to help the Oceanic 6 get off the island."
My fuckin' ass. He accomplished what exactly? He have Ben some names? That did what? Help Ben creep out people and wind up getting his daughter killed? Then he froze a bomb that ANY red shirt could have done?
What a shitty SHITTY way to deal with the character! Charlie had an AWESOME death. Charlie had THE character death. Michael just kind of did extra shit and played Mr. Invincible to play some damn games. TERRIBLE use of a character with tons of potential.
-
I hate Miles, guy is an asshole and I hope he gets the worse death ever.
BTW who exactly are the people Saeed is killing off? If you ask me, Saeed really needs to stop this whole 'my wife was murdered, so I'll go kill off the people that are connected to the real murders, not giving a shit about the fact that she would NEVER want that' persona, it is really ticking me off.
Also do note, Greg that A LOT of bloopers were stated to have occured in this Season; check Lostpedia.org and for just about every episode u will find a list of bloopers. Maybe these were intentional?
Some stuff that I am confused at-
1- Saeed said he wasn't taking Hurley back to the island….WTF, Ben told Jack at the end of the ep. that the only way to get back is to take everyone back. BTW you KNOW Ben is only helping them to get back on the island for his own selfish reasons.
2- If stuff on the island are SO messed up, and the only way to fix it is if all Oceanic 6, Frank, Desmond, Ben, Walt(?) and Locke and anyone else who left the island, why does Claire not want Aaron brought back?
3- Is Christian really working for the island? For a long time now, I believe he's been wanting to exploit the island or such.
4- Does Ben want Walt to come back to the island? From the Mobisodes, Ben feared Walt like the AntiChrist.Just a few thing to wonder about :P
EDIT: For those wonder what Sawyer was whispering to Kate, which is also the promise Kate said she would uphold for Sawyer-

Since Daniel starting spewing awesome short lines, Miles became my new favorite character. He strikes me the same way Sawyer did. Yeah, he seems like an asshole but I just don't think he knows what he's gotten himself into, even though he thinks he does. He's also going to be key in understanding the whole concept of death and the island and for that reason alone, I like 'im.
Ben contacted him just days after 'Widmore' killed his own daughter and is obviously using him to take out players who are key to Widmore's scheme. He got the revenge he needed but now, as revealed in the end of episode 3, he's doing it to protect everyone still alive from Widmore. This is interesting since Sun has decided to 'align' herself with the man instead of working against him.
Also do note, Greg that A LOT of bloopers were stated to have occured in this Season; check Lostpedia.org and for just about every episode u will find a list of bloopers. Maybe these were intentional?
Yeah, but nothing I've read recently really rubbed me the wrong way. There are set pieces rearranged, reused or simply missing and those are, well, shit happens. You can't expect them to piss blood over every detail. Then there are 'technical' bloopers. These are frustrating since they degrade the minute thought each scene was originally conceived with. For example: Charlie could never have died that way with the hole at the level it was. Or you can't send radio signals from way the fuck underneath the earth which renders the Keamy thing useless. Those are disappointing.
BUT when they hit storyline bloopers, that just hurts.
Like Desmond knowing there was no sickness but is clearly taking shots and bringing the meds with him.
Or Charlie telling Locke that he was forced to check his guitar because the attendant was a 'fascist' only to see him stuffing it in a closet onboard in the Season 1 finale.
Those hurt. Now I haven't come across too many this season but I also haven't watched it as much as I have Season 1.
1- Saeed said he wasn't taking Hurley back to the island….WTF, Ben told Jack at the end of the ep. that the only way to get back is to take everyone back. BTW you KNOW Ben is only helping them to get back on the island for his own selfish reasons.
Who knows what's going on there. Doesn't bother me though. For all we know, Sayid has gone rogue. Also, he could be flat out lying to Hurley to prevent a fuss.
2- If stuff on the island are SO messed up, and the only way to fix it is if all Oceanic 6, Frank, Desmond, Ben, Walt(?) and Locke and anyone else who left the island, why does Claire not want Aaron brought back?
Yep! That's another very interesting point. I'm starting to wonder what Christian's motivations are and whether he REALLY works on behalf of Jacob or not. I mean, Jacob DID say, "Help me."
Jack's dad has been pianted as both a villain and a hero in the past. It would be interesting to see what side he's really on.
4- Does Ben want Walt to come back to the island? From the Mobisodes, Ben feared Walt like the AntiChrist.
Yeah who knows. He was on the flight so he might be necessary but I guess we'll find out huh?
No big deal, it's just 7-8 months.

^Points taken mate ;)
Oh and if Season 5 comes out Jan 2009, I can live with that. -
The Dharmacakra is an 8-spoked wheel. It is a Buddhist symbol for teaching the path to enlightenment.
Many Buddhists believe in the "turning of the wheel of dharma." Whenever the dharma (a buddha's teaching or a code of ethics.) is lost or forgotten, a new buddha or teacher comes to turn the wheel. Depending on the Buddhist tradition, some believe the wheel to have turned up to three times. Whenever the wheel is turned, it signifies a changing point in Buddhist history (such as the rise of Mahayana Buddhism and in LOST a new position/time for the island), as well as the recognition of a new leader or teacher (obviously, John Locke).Above from Lostpedia. Nice.
And now my take on the big picture. This idea has come up several times and has been in the ring since season 1 but, gonna guess that the island is literally the birthplace of human-kind. This race or races were in touch with higher beings and had rituals for worshipping them since they resided amongst them. As time went on a disaster occurred in a transfer of power and a divide was caused among the peoples. Some left (or were forced to leave) and others stayed behind. Those who left were either distributed (transported) or voluntarily went to different places on earth. Over time their rituals for worshipping the higher beings became 'distorted' those who disagreed with certain aspects changed their form of worship and these ideas, although similarly linked with similar practices and a belief in a higher being, were distinctly different.
Basically God resides on the island and he/she/it is an amalgamation of all religion we've come to know. That's why we're getting Biblical references, Biblical dreams, Buddhist traditions and artifacts, ideas of dark and light, death and rebirth, Adam and Eve, eternal life, prophets, miracles, etc. All of our people, and our religion came from that one place, but split and changed as people were spread out in the world.
I like it. Clever idea but also a simple one that isn't TOO out there. Guess we'll find out in two years.
-
I seriously can't wait for some of the big loose ends the season finale brought up to be tied up. It brought some questions like:
How, and why did Locke leave the island?
Why did he kill himself?I know, they'll be tied up in due time. But, those are the ones that really have me thinking.
And, I know how you feel, Greg. Michael's death was handeled so crappily.
-
^Dude Locke didn't kill himself "they said it was suicide", and come the fuck on how could u forget that the ISLAND DECIDES WHETHER YOU LIVE OR DIE.
-
Ya know something's become completely clear to me now…everything that has happened on the island, from Ben's tumor till the Frozen Donkey Wheel, all of it was Jacob's way of saying he doesn't need Ben anymore. Sorry if this was already apparent but thought I'd just toss it in.
-
Oh yeah, Darmacakra! Okey I didn't really thought about how or what kind of device they would use to move the island before hand but, I admit, when I saw that big wheel deep inside the island I sank my face in my palms and I giggled like a little girl. It just looked stupid, and felt little embarrassing. But now it makes sort of sense.
-
I think it was. Ben just didn't want to admit it, hence shooting Locke after their first visit to Jacob's cabin when Locke could hear him.
And, with Locke dead who takes orders from Jacob now?

Greg and I aren't the only ones who were turned off by Michael's final scene.
Even Harold Perrineau was unpleased with his character's death.
-
but according to spoilerfix, XXXXXXXXXXX so greg enjoy!
Actually what I'd enjoy is if people didn't carelessly post spoilers without tags.
-
wait, did someone post that in this thread?
-
Indeed. Page 33.

Hey guys, here's a little extended, but very interesting scene out of #412.
Everybody who's already watched the finale: Tune in!
Everyone else: Beware of spoilers, this extended scene is right from the Season 4 Finale.New footage is shown at ~0:47 ++

I know this is an old Lost mystery, but I felt like bringing it up again: The blast door map, and the scratched out station. It was pretty obvious that Radzinsky and Kelivin didn't know about every Dharma station on the island. So, what if the Orchid was the scratched out one?

Yesterday, I rewatched "Greatest Hits", and there something caught my eye.
Desmond told Charlie, he saw Claire and Aaron getting rescued on a helicopter, if he sacrifices himself on the Looking Glas…
So, as we all know, Charlie did the exact same thing, and well... Aaron was rescued, but there's no Claire to be found.
So my guess was at first:
Well that's something that'll eitherway happen in Season 5 or 6, after Aaron got back to the Island and after THAT, they'll together get rescued. But here's the thing: Then, Aaron would be like a grown boy, 4 years old aprox. and that's something Desmond would've definitely told Charlie. So now, you see my problem, I hope.
Did I miss something? Did something change the course of the future, I've just forgotten, have the producers made a big, undeliberate mistake, or will this whole thing unfold into a great-master-plan at the end of the series? What do you guys think about it? -
Desmond just didn't like Charlie and wanted him out of the picture so he could get down to some Claire lovin'.

After all his flashes were kind of….trippy.

BTW I DO believe Claire will get on the helicopter.

-
Well I haven't gotten around to reading yet (reading Fables and other stuff ATM XD), but remember when Richard asked Kid Locke 'which of these are yours?'? One of the items was a comic book; 3 of those pages are uploaded in that site, and they may provide some answers to stuff we still don't know about the Island.
