Luffy learned gear 2 before water seven arc?

This was noticed long ago. It doesn't matter for crap though, since it's filler.
-
The 7° Movie went out after the chapter 388..

It ain't filler, filler is the stuff they put into the anime cause its catching or has catched up with the manga. This is a standalone movie which also means that it isn't canon and is best to ignore in regards to the main story anyway.
And the move in the movie was inspired by the manga, not the other way around, regardless of where the movie is placed.
-
Heh, it's not technically filler, but it's as good as one… or as bad, depending on how you see it. Actually, all the movies (except 6) feel like uber-long filler episodes FROM HELL.
-
I think that the film-makers have well inserted it because luffy is suddenly able to do reach the second gear in the manga…, and from the movie you can see how it is possible... i know there it is just a theory but a good one :-D
-
6? Geez i hated that movie. The characters were extremely OOC. How could Zoro be so weak? How could Luffy jeopardise his own crewmates' safety? Since when was Robin was stupid? HOW IN THE WORLD COULD ANY PIRATE, BESIDES THE SPECIFICALLY STATED "ONLY MAN" WHITEBEARD, RIVAL GOL D. ROGER??
I kinda liked the dead end adventure race one though. That one had a nice pirate feel to it. The rest of the movies were quite bad though.
And back on topic, yeah that move was inspired by the manga. The movie just thought it could offer an explanation on how Luffy suddenly acquired the movie. I personally thought that Luffy's "I won't let my nakama die" spirit that instinctively drove him to learn the move a more easy-to-swallow concept.

DON'T FUTZ WITH NON-CANON BULLSHIT, YOU GET BURNED.

Ouch… I disagree with pretty much everything in that paragraph, except from the last sentence (I think it was just a bluff anyway, idk)... but yeah, let's not talk about that here ^^;

so many things wrong with this thread…

Trivia(The Giant Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle) from wikipedia
This movie, while technically not considered canon, features a possible explanation for the origin of Luffy's Gear 2nd which he unwittingly discovers during his fight with Ratchet.
However, this makes it so that the only possible timeframe for this movie to take place is between the encounter with Aokiji and the Water 7 arc,
since it was stated that Luffy did not think of Gear 2nd until he met Aokiji.
Usopp can also be seen working on the Perfect Clima-Tact, a weapon that wasn't revealed before the Straw Hat's were en-route to Enies Lobby on the sea-train Rocketman,
in the opening credits.
The trailer to the movie featured several scenes which did not make it to the final production, mostly due to deadlines.
Most fans did not seem to notice, so there were not many complaints. A few of the said 'missing scenes' include Luffy fighting against a bipedal dinosaur-like robot and Sanji/Zoro's fights in daylight.
Also, in the trailer Luffy is shown bloody and injured, when he really is never hurt in the movie.
This movie is notable for the obvious breast enhancements of Robin and Nami. Their breasts appear to bounce whenever they move or are excited, accompanied with a rather humorous "bounce" sound effect.
The original VA for Chopper, Ikue Ohtani, was not used in this movie as she was on maternity leave. Many fans find the voice of the interim VA, Kazue Ikura, "annoying", although some hardly notice it.It ain't filler, filler is the stuff they put into the anime cause its catching or has catched up with the manga. This is a standalone movie which also means that it isn't canon and is best to ignore in regards to the main story anyway.

hi vl7, i think this is a semi filler , since this movie is oda's fanchise/copyrighted anime, may be oda was try to show us that when was luffy learned gear 2. we know filler sometime do explain some detail that havent been explain. i know what u mean vl7, manga do come 1st follow by anime and movie, all i want to say is oda just give the infomation to us thru this movie that luffy was inspired by the robot.
in real world movie was inspired by the manga, but in manga world luffy was inspired by the robot before water 7 arc.
i know some of the member here are follow manga as the only canon.
but what for oda allowed firm maker to show/hints that luffy learn gear 2 before water 7? is that movie and anime are not original for one piece?
my opinion is a completed one piece = manga + anime + movie.this movie not a canon, but it not completely bull shit. it do explain when luffy learn gear2
if u ignore it,
oda and i will feel so sad….. -
Please don't try to back up statements with text taken from wikipedia…
-
the artist doesn't decide on fillers
if he did, dragonball would be at least 40% shorter, and naruto wouldn't have crapped itself up by hvaing 1/2 years of fillers. and chopper wouldn't have taken 3 rumble balls in the anime without firstly losing control and secondly becoming monster chopper.
they probably 'consult' the artist, which is about it. they still own the animation rights, and they will do anything to milk it for money.

http://s10.picshome.com/4b2/gear2begin.jpgsigh why is it so hard for people to believe that the only thing that's canon is the manga?
-
That doesnt look like gear 2. I am a bit confused… Did he just spontaneously think of gear 2 or did it take time training... Cuz it looks like he just thought of it.
-
He "accidentally" did it. He went "eh, what is this" with the weight of the big mechanical robot coming onto him forcing him to pump his legs.
-
I'm pretty sure Luffy had worked out the whole Gear thing sometime during Water; they way he spoke about it to Blueno (and the fact that he used it against Blueno) imply that he needed to test it, to make sure it worked. Whether or not he got the idea from Karakuri depends on whether or not you consider the movies "canon," which I don't.
-
Aye, this topic is getting quite frightening.
But seriously. I'm sure the movie directors just put that in there for foreshadowing- for people who only watch the anime, because they already know what's going to happen in the manga.
It's nothing to take too seriously. -
LOL i cant believe he got facts from…wikipedia LOL that made my day..plus i swore up and down plus ill try to find that i read that oda had really nothing at all to do with the anime and the movies of onepiece..
MANGA = CANON
movies anime=crap...
-
If you try to put it into the contet of the actual TV series timeline, it falls into the same time paradox as Movie 3, it which you have Chopper as part of the crew, but Vivi and Robin are nowhere to be found.
So, yeah, its basically non-canon alternate universe type stuff.
-
When he fought Blueno, Luffy said that he started training after he lost to Aokiji. We were given a clear timeline in the manga, saying how many days they stayed on Longring Longland before sailing directly to Water 7. Movie 7 couldn't have taken place between the two arcs, and Luffy didn't develop Gear 2 until after Davy Back Fight. The movie doesn't fit in the canon plot.
GRAND LINE'S CLOSED.
-
The movie definitely can't be used as in the series Luffy is well aware of what he's doing to his body when he uses Gear 2 while in the movie he was confused what was happening. He consciously came up with the technique, it didn't just happen randomly as the movie has it
-
Gear 2 comes out. Fans love it. Directors see that fans love it. They throw it in just for the hell of it to attract fans who'll be oooing and ahhing at it. End.
-
easy easy man!
i just open this thread for discuss and sharing…
and my tittle is Luffy learned gear 2 before water seven arc ?
please dont be so aggressive, i feel quite scary after i open this thread…
and it make me feel like an idiot… i never thought using wikipedia is so funny...i am not saying 100% sure for the tittle. and my english is not that good to explain it. i just open it for discuss and not for ridicule and criticise to others.
please share and discuss in a civilization way.

Luffy learned Gear 2 sometime after landing in Water 7 (says he learned them because he lost to Ao Kiji), and arriving at Enies Lobby (when he says he has "some new moves to try out" when hes leaving the train).
Nothing in the movies has any relevance to the main storyline of One Piece whatsoever.

Nico robin is in the movie whit her biutiful bouncing boobs. She is in movie 3-8. And I think that the movies time line is supposed to be betwen the long island and water 7
-
It's Oda who thought about Gear 2 before water 7.
-
@Myrmonden:

No she isn't.
Yes, except for the third, movies are always supposed to take place somewhere in the series, but that's it, SUPPOSED, they never happened in the main storyline, consider them as "what if" stories.

bad of me meant to type 4-8. Any way the 7 movie is not in the same non existing universe as 3 becuase it has Robin.
-
of all the threads that should be closed WHY HASNT THIS ONE BEEN YET? this question was pointless…......it doesnt even involve the manga
-
@Skull:
Luffy learned Gear 2 sometime after landing in Water 7 (says he learned them because he lost to Ao Kiji), and arriving at Enies Lobby (when he says he has "some new moves to try out" when hes leaving the train).
He only learned that he had to get stronger after losing to AoKiji.
Gear 2 is basically just a continuous form of Soru (pump your legs for a short boost of speed), which Luffy learned from watching CP9 in action at the Galley-La building.
