Which episodes had the best animation? Which were the best that ran smoothly throughout the whole episode?
A couple of my favorites include Chopper's flashback and All of Sanji's fights. For some reason his fights always come out fluent.

Animation wise? LUFFY VS. CROCODILE, FINAL FIGHT, GOMU GOMU NO STORM. PERIOD.
Caps lock is fun ;)
The episode where Luffy opens up a can of Gear 2nd whoopass on Blueno! Even though they increased poor Blueno's suffering by throwing in some extra attacks, they adapted it all to the anime perfectly!
Oh, and the third episode, where Luffy fights Captain Morgan! There was some nice animation in that one!
Franky Vs. Fukurou was pretty well animated. ^^
So was the first part of Zoro Vs. Kaku
I agree Franky vs Fukuro and Zoro vs Kaku were great animated
I've always liked the animation during Sanji and Bon Clay's kick-a-thon scene.
I'd have to say
Luffy Vs Croc Final Round
Sanji Vs Mr. 2
Luffy Vs Blueno
Franky Vs Fukurou
and Zoro Vs Kaku (the First half)
I don't know why, but I loved some of the scenes during the G8 arc. Sure it was filler, but some of it was drawn pretty damn well; eg. when Luffy and Nami are on the waver, or when all of the spotlights are on the Merry.
I thought Luffy Vs Usopp was nicely done, they added a small amount but it was well done imo
i found myself enjoying the first round of Luffy vs Crocodile because of the animation in that ep. But Zoro vs Kaku (first half of it) was amazing. The rest of it, was well….....ass.
When all hell starts breaking loose in Water 7, the animation was beautiful for a while.
Well, as much as the art style doesn't appeal much to me now, the animation-quality in the early episodes was pretty consistently good. Pretty much any episode animated by that studio that did #67, 78, movie 4, Luffy vs Blueno, Sanji vs Jyabura, and the first Edo-era special (among other things). They've always had really good animation, I'm glad they're still around.
#79's pretty good, too, though I think that animation house's budget has since gone downhill. If I'm right, I think they may also have done #197 and while the animation itself wasn't bad, the character models were really odd-looking sometimes.
The ZoroTashigi fight seemed realistic to me. Even if it was short…
Some of the best animated One Piece episodes IMO :
040 : Sanji vs Kuroobi / Usopp vs Chew
067 : Final part of Whiskey Peak
074 : Mr.3
086 : Final part of Chopper's Flashback
114 : Usopp/Chopper vs Mr.4/Miss Merry Christmas
147 : Jaya : Bellamy mocking Luffy, Nami and Zoro
162 : Shura vs Gun Fall
171 : Luffy vs Wiper
211 : First part of the Groggy Ring
236 : Luffy vs Usopp
242 : CP9 assault
There were also some nicely animated episodes, yet strangely drawn :
261 : End of all fights on the Puffing Tom
289 : Franky vs Fukurou
298 : Sanji vs Jabura
Actually, including all of those mentioned above, the most recent one sided fight of Robin vs. Spandam with Seis Fleur Slap has got to be the most awesome use of animation of six slapping hands I have ever seen. I mean, Robin must have ridiculous hand-eye coordination if she can control 6 hands like that! I must be her beautiful big pools she calls eyes…sighs and swoons.
@Roman:

298 : Sanji vs Jabura
I agree with you on those.
One of my favourites animation wise is 290, Chopper vs Kumadori one. It was very well animated.
Then there's Luffy vs Blueno, firts part of Kaku vs Zoro, Zoro vs Mr 1, 243 and 244 (CP9 reveals their identities) etc.
The anime stopped entertaining me visually a little before it went HD, around that time consistancy flew out the window and the drawing became so choppy…
...Why can't it just always look like Drum?
Any MAJOR fight had good animation.
Any MAJOR fight had good animation.
Luffy v. Blueno in its initial stages barely had any at all. It was more along the lines of stills (like paper cut-outs) being shifted across screen with a lot of smoke and junk.
Gear 2 Luffy v. Blueno looked nicely animated to me, but it's chicken scratch compared with what Toei has done in the past. I really can't think of an OP movie with excellent animation, since the whole series has been plagued by ugliness in the post Arabasta period.
I would suppose…Luffy v. Krieg?
if the preview is any indicator, episode 304 is going to have some of the best animation ive seen
Usopp vs Luffy had the best animation in my opinion, second only to Luffy vs Crocodile
It's weird because the animation looked great while I followed it with KF… but around the time I started following the weekly raws (around Davy Backfight) it was AWFUL.
I honestly can't comment to a great extent since I don't remember much of the anime, but I remember the Drum arc looking great.
My favorite animation was during the Davy Back Fight episodes when Sanji and Zoro were fighting the monster team in that ball game. It looked like the animators were really having fun with the facial expressions.
Enies Lobby looks terrible.
My favorite is after the first few episodes(which were consistent but the entire thing was extremely bright, I even think I saw some outlines that weren't black) but before Lougetown. Lougetown is where backgrounds besides trees became really artistic.
Anyone else notice they didn't bother to add either animation or sound effects to the waterfall duing the Zoro vs Kaku and such fight? It's a garden with a waterfall,it shouldn't be too hard to animate it.
I like the animation that's been used for Enies Lobby/Water 7… actually, all episodes after Skypiea have been great. The computer-style of animation looks a lot better, is easier on the eyes, etc.
Episodes 1, 37, and 43 and whatever episode the Krieg fight came to an end.
I've always liked the animation during Sanji and Bon Clay's kick-a-thon scene.
Yessss <3 Sanji falling to his knees because of Nami's face was hot. xD
I also really loved the part where Vivi and Luffy fought because Luffy didn't want Vivi to sacrifice herself alone.
And when Luffy confronted Usopp about Merry's conditions. Good lord, the drama, the tears, the heartwreck.
And the two episodes where there was Sogeking's theme song played. Great stuff, great stuff.
I thought that 304 came out very well. Most notably, the Luffy/Lucci parts were great, and I felt that the anime did Gear 3 justice. Also, the BC ships looked really cool and imposing, and I loved the shot of the fire and smoke rising over all of Enies Lobby.
Episode 298. I didn't like the art stye particularly, but the quality and animation were absolutley top-notch.
