Well there was one good thing to come out of that movie.

I like saying the phrase "Strange, isn't it". I generally say it in the same tone as Sonic, so I can try to see how many people notice or mention it.
Weird, I know. I like picking up random sayings. Especially "Yosh".

Nothing weird about picking up random sayings. Especially if it's part of an inside joke.
I tend to say "Sad, isn't it?" like Lulu from Final Fantasy X (Which is weird, since I hate that game).
Me and my Blazblue friends tend to yell out Thud! randomly in our sentences. And every time each of our friends ignores us/doesn't hear us, we say this:
The line in question lasts from around 09:43 to 09:48. -
Metal Sonic fucking owned in that movie.
-
Metal Sonic owns period. Well, at least before he became an obligatory giant monster in Heroes.
-
Hey he had some epic lines in Heroes.
-
True, but I wish you could have raced him instead of doing the whole "going super and fighting some giant monster" shtick. He's an evil robotic copy of Sonic for crying out loud. Let him have a race! >:(
-
ibijJ851y4Q
But honestly, I always liked Metal Sonic, even if they abused his presence in the future.
-
I always liked the fact that in the end he became so crazy that he believed he was the real Sonic and real one the copy. That was awesome in my oppinion.
-
@Dr.:

Listen! Do you hear that sound?
That's the sound of people still crying in frustration from the Metal Sonic race in Sonic CD.
Do you really want to bring that back?
-
But honestly, I always liked Metal Sonic, even if they abused his presence in the future.
Lol I always wonder how shooting yourself with lighting gave you special powers. I too have always liked that homicidal robot, mostly his design. He just looks so cool.
I always liked the fact that in the end he became so crazy that he believed he was the real Sonic and real one the copy. That was awesome in my oppinion.
Yeah, that was pretty awesome. As long as Sega doesn't try to make a huge deal about it, I wouldn't mind him having that perspective in the future.
Listen! Do you hear that sound?

YES! >:(
-
@Dr.:
YES!
I'm not saying it can't be done right, but races against Metal Sonic tend to drive people insane.
Besides, Sega has to redeem Sonic games before making bringing any old characters back.
-
Was the Metal Sonic race really that hard? Sure, it's a pain in the ass and Metal has the whole invincible dash going for him but it was perfectly doable.
As for the whole "Sega redemption" thing, yeah, Sega needs to get their act together before they try to make an awesome 3-D race/fight. The Sonic/Shadow fight in SA2 doesn't count. I'm talking about loops and spikes and speed boosts and Metal being a dick.
Basically a 3-D version of the CD race. Let the people cry in frustration, I loves me some robot racin'.
-
Well, if you're okay with being a masochist.
And yes, that CD race against Metal Sonic is dreadful. The guys who programmed that are going to hell for making it that difficult.
-
Awwww, come on. If you take the upper route with the platforms then Metal is a piece of cake. Even then, all you have to do is jump over him when he does the invincible dash and spin dash/whatever that other move is called past him when he was running normally.
It's not that hard =/
-
Once you know the stage by heart, it becomes very easy. So yes, it takes something like 20 or 30 tries but then this race is a piece of cake.
-
@Lee:

Fact is, I don't mind failing every once in awhile. I like a good, consistent difficulty curve.
But when the game is a relative breeze and then something like the Metal Sonic race shows up, the curve became a gigantic spike. An unfair friggin spike that requires Dragon's Lair like trial and error reflexes to complete.
And the fact that you get used to it after 20 or 30 tries is bull.
That's like saying cutting your arm off becomes really cool once it scabs over.
-
And the fact that you get used to it after 20 or 30 tries is bull.
We both agree, that was actually the point of my post, although in a sarcastic way.
-
20 to 30 tries? Really? It took me at least six to beat him the first time around. Now, I'm not claiming to be a MASTER GAMER or anything but it is nowhere near as difficult as you guys are making it out to be.
You run without stopping and take the time to slow down in certain areas. If you lose momentum, spin dash. If there's a spike on top of a hill, slow down a bit and jump over it. When Metal does his flying dash, jump over it, he also destroys spikes in the process. Into the middle (or the end, I haven't played the game in a while) of the race, there are some platforms. Jump on them to speed along without having to worry about spikes/Metal's dickery.
A lot of levels in the Sonic series require strict memorization. This isn't one of them, guys. I mean, sure, it takes some memorization but certainly not 20 to 30 tries worth.
-
And to think, they made entire games based out of the metal sonic race.
-
I'm seriously not discussing this.
The Metal Sonic race might be fun once you got the pattern down, but it's needlessly difficult and does require strict memorization. The fact that you can remember most of it by heart is proof.
It sucked the end.
-
It doesn't take much to remember jumping over stuff, man. =/ But hey, whatever. Different strokes for different folks and all that. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to pretend to be an elitist. LOL YOU NUBS CAN"T HANDLE MAI SKILLZ LOLOLOLOLOLOL! Ugh, that was terrible.
@RobbyBevard:
And to think, they made entire games based out of the metal sonic race.
If you're talking about Sonic Rivals then those games were TERRIBLE! Makes me shudder just thinking about them!
-
Sonic Rivals, and for the 3-D set, Sonic Riders.
I actually enjoyed Sonic Rivals initially, it was the closest thing to an old school Sonic game in a long time, but it absolutely required pure replay and memorization to beat the computer opponent, and insisted you run through a level at top speed blind with no idea what was coming.
It took a while for that aspect to really sink in and all the flaws associated with it.
-

Not to mention that there was some serious rubberbanding when it came to the AI. One could be an entire level apart from their opponent and all of a sudden they would be neck-to-neck in a matter of seconds. Can't say anything about Riders though, haven't summoned the interest to try that game.
-
I fucking hate rubberbanding.
-
I liked Sonic Rivals 2… until I beat it 20 minutes later.
Also whoever is dissing the Metal Sonic race is whack.
-
Sonic Riders is terrible, never play it.

STOP LIKING WHAT I DONT LIKE
It sucked the end.
I liked the Metal Sonic level in CD. wasnt nearly as hard as you guys make it out to be.

Actually couldnt stand Rivals. I'd actually rank it nearer the worst of the Sonic games. Never bothered with the second one.

STOP LIKING WHAT I DONT LIKE
I suppose you think you're clever.
It's true that I dislike Sonic CD, and the fact that it's called a masterpiece. But really, save for the Wacky Workbench levels, it's not a bad game. An annoying one, but it's still decent.
But I'm not kidding when I said Metal Sonic was hair-pulling frustrating. As I've said, if you're okay with that level of masochism, more power to you. I'm just saying that is was incredibly unfair to have a gigantic difficulty spike out of nowhere when, up to that point, the game was a relative breeze.
I still despise the Metal Sonic race. I can usually do it on my first try now, but that's only because of the Dragon's Lair-like reflexes you had to develop for that race.
If you want to see more races like that, it's none of my concern. I'm just saying it can be handled better and should be handled better.
-

For 1993 and as a sequel to the original Sonic The Hedgehog I think it does a pretty good job of one upping everything that the original had. The Metal Sonic race was an interesting level and they never really tried much like that again in the main series so it was pretty cool and unique at the time.
I never really found it that hard and could always do it inside of 4 lives. Like the other guy said, I dont claim to be any kind of master gamer myself but I dont see much to complain about on it.
I suppose you think you're clever.
hah. ok. chill.

Another 8.6 for Colors.
WHAT IS GOING ON?
-
Whole world's gone topsy-turvy.
-
ONM is a terrible magazine.
Take it from someone who's read the thing.
-
Yet, Sonic Colors is still three for three. :\
-
Another 8.6 for Colors.
WHAT IS GOING ON?
The franchise has been bad and headed in one direction for so long that people are used to the specific style of mediocrity at this point and now think non stop rail riding is just how a Sonic game is supposed to be.
The stink has been bad so long, anything that doesn't control like a brick and that has no werehog stages seems better in comparison.
-
Remember when Sonic's thing was just running fast, solving puzzles, and not sticking on a rail?
Those were good times.
-
The French ONM gave Sonic Colors a 15/20, which equates to about a 7.5. (Not fully confirmed)
A little lower than the rest so far, but it's still about 83% average.

Only time will tell when the "professional" reviews come out. I won't have hope until I see reviews from IGN, GameSpot, GameInformer, and GameTrailers.
-
I'll wait for my usual gamecentral/gamesTM/Edge.

ahahahaha
why would you listen to an IGN or gamespot review
-
@Cyan:
ahahahaha

Agreed.
I'm fairly certain IGN and Gamespot are being bribed for their reviews. Either that, or they're just massive idiots.
-

While they have had reviews that are completely biased and unprofessional, they've also had reviews which I agree wholeheartedly as a critic myself. Which is why I wait for such reviews. I compare them later to other reviews and the final verdict comes off after I play the actual game. By no means I meant that they are the best reviewers around.
-
Gamespot fired a reviewer because he gave a game they were advertising a bad review, so I would never use them again on principle.
I find IGN is just flat out terrible to be honest. -
IGN's only good for the odd walkthrough here and there.
-

I find IGN is just flat out terrible to be honest.Yeah, I think Eidos actually owns or at least owns a big part of GameSpot so I've always found them hard to trust (they tried pulling the same kind of review influencing crap with Batman: Arkham Asylum).
And IGN still adheres to a decimal rating system (.2, .4, .8) and anyone who adheres to that system is bullshit too. Sure enough, that was GameSpot's review scale for the longest time. (The game in question that got the reviewer fired was given a 6.8 by the way.)
-
Which crazily enough would be considered a fairly good score in better publications, but GS is one of those websites that give the impression that anything below 7 is a turd.
The only website I check out for reviews these days is this one:
http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/games/
They only tend to do five reviews a week, but they've been going for near to a decade and have never steered me wrong.
-

Yeah, they try to operate under this "Letter grade" mentality how there only 5 numbers for good games and the rest is crap, GameInformer does the same thing, and I've never liked them or there reviews, and whaddya know they also combine their scoring system with decimal BS (though they're on a quarter-scale of .25, .50, .75 and .00).
1UP does a much better job with they're grading. They and EGM have been my go-to for reviews since 1996 (for EGM anyway).
-
Ign gave godhand a 3.0.
They can go fuck themselves.

I've never really used 1Up. Although I did hear a passing reference to it at neogaf a while ago commenting on how they were falling to pieces - did they have a mass exodus of staff or something?

I think being IGN is enough of a punsihment already.

Not to my knowledge.
I mean there was a big overhaul of the main site and Scott Sharkey who was one of my favorite contributors isn't there anymore (I am bummed about that ) but there hasn't been anything particularly damning about it right now.
