This is a problem when you get hit and lose all your rings.
Your complaining?
Thats like….how every Sonic game has worked since the dawn of time.

Sonic 1 isn't hard at all except the final act in Scrap Brain (the grey labyrinth)
Sonic 2 get's hard in the airship (Metropolis is more annoying then hard)
And the final boss is cheap.
Also Sonic 2's bonus rounds are just retardedly hard.
Nothing in Sonic 3 & Knuckles is hard except a few of the Emerald stages.
But then again I'm someone so good at platforming that I reflexively play through all three Donkey Kong Countries without even trying.

its like a minute long dude. not hard in the slightest

Length of time has jack shit to do with why it's hard.

You are a far better man than I. I've only beaten countries 1 and 2.
Country 3 is easier to 100% then 2 I'd say.
I loved working out how to get the giant coins from the armoured kremlings.
How on earth is S3&K easier than S3??
Have you played the Knuckles game???
I didn't say it's easier than S3. I didn't even say it was easier than any other. S3 is the easiest in the series IMO, followed by S2.
S&K was freaking tough. S&K3 was easier than S&K (and Sonic 1) because you had the ability to save your game and access any stage at any time.

Horrible game design choice.
True, but figuring it out was half the fun…..not really.
Your complaining?
Thats like….how every Sonic game has worked since the dawn of time.
No offense Tonfa, but no shit. What my issue is is that when Sonic gets hit, his speed restarts from scratch. Granted, that's normal, but in Sonic 4, when your speed resets, you move at the speed a damn snail.
So getting rings is fifty times worse.
I understand and know it's been a concept in the game since dawn, but how can I not complain about something I've done a thousand times but now suddenly have my arm tied behind my back when doing it.
@JERK:

The death traps…the fucking underwater parts...
It's like they REALIZED how much I hated Labrynth Zone, and brought it back from the dead. I was okay with Starlight Zone, but fuck...
At least the music was buddy tagging along with you in torment.
Best thing about sonic 1 is not getting all the emeralds and watching robotnik juggle them all around.
I think it was already said in this thread. But the drowning music was pure evil. Made you panic and stole your sense as you suddenly found yourself desperate for an air bubble. The worst part is when you found a bubble spawning spot, and it refused to make a big one and you waited as time ran out.
Or when Tails stole it.
I accused you of not liking something for that reason or something.

There it is.
Drowning music was the best thing.

Multi-tailed fox hate started early.

Fucking Tails…that's why I always played either Sonic alone or Tails.
Drowning was only a problem for me in Brain Scrap Zone and Chemical Plant Zone.
Damn, Chemical Plant Zone. I don't think that one had air bubbles. I seriously would have to raise to the top of those moving platforms. The drowning timer would start up. It'd hit the one second mark the moments I splashed above the surface. Loved that stage though.
Sonic 3 had bubble shields, so I abused the crap out of those.
Does that mean you never fought the tails-assisted marble labyrinth boss in sonic 3?
I think Tails arrives to help in that fight regardless of if he's tagging along or not.

….I know the boss you're talking about, but I don't remember how that worked with Sonic alone right now. I know Tails flew on his own when he played by himself, but Sonic.....
I did face that boss with both Sonic and Tails. I played Sonic 3 in co-op with my sister several times.
EDIT:

Well, there you go!
Thank you, Robby.

Just checked an faq and looks like robby is right. Been too long since I did a sonic alone run I guess.
I've beaten Sonic 1 before, though it was a LONG time ago.
I have never beaten Sonic 2, though. I can't seem to kill the final boss.
Sonic 3, I've made it to the final boss, and I think I've beaten it, but I've never done Doomsday Zone.
Sonic 2 final bosses aren't that bad. I think the only problem was misjudging the jump height when robotnik's mecha falls to its knees.
Only difficulty with Sonic 3 & knuckles is the sparsity of super rings when you reach the S&K part of the game. Not many second chances for the bonus levels.
I've managed to beat all four titles on my own. Sonic 1 and 2 I didn't beat on my own til' I was older. Sonic 3 and Knuckles I played and beat to death as a kid.
Other than that, my experience in the game was either watching my sister play or playing as Tails along side her.

Pretty well illustrated right there.
So in response to complaints that Sonic is to fast to control, they take out all momentum.
I can't recall an instance where Sonic was too fast. Too slow, yeah. But not fast. So I dunno why people would complain about him being too fast.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who think the basis of Sonic is running as fast as you can, and don't think that there are any platforming basics to this game.
So they'll run-run-run-run-run right off a cliff to their death, and then bitch because they couldn't control him.
That's the basis of sonic rush
Hahahaha, I was messing around with that tunnel at 1:20 earlier today.

Doomsdays in S3&K.
Played both the Wii and 360 versions of Sonic 4 now and anyone complaining that Sonic is too slow is honestly playing it wrong. Homing attack twice from a dead stop and you can get up to full speed quicker than you would in 1 - 3&K.
I have noticed that it feels a lot stiffer on the Wii version though.
! Awesome that Metal Sonic will be in ep2

This is one of the things I love about Sonic 4; it has an emphasis on platforming. The beginning footage shown in the beginning of my vid is just a regular playthrough of mine (complaints following it be damned) and it's quite evident from there it's definitely not just about speed. Sadly, those people who think it's nothing more than that will be disappointed once they start getting ahead of themselves and start throwing themselves into bottomless pits in the casino zone, where platforming is a big thing there.
Also left the footage there just in case I get any retard comments from overzealous fans trying to claim it's simply because I suck at the game.
I have noticed that it feels a lot stiffer on the Wii version though.
Think it may also have to do with the fact that the D-Pad is tiny as hell and the lack of any other controller options means your thumb will be fidgeting around on the D-Pad trying to press right or left, only to press down by mistake. :s
Doomsdays in S3&K.
Well, excuse me then. I though it was apparent. :\
When I talk about Sonic 3 and Knuckles, I generally refer to it as Sonic 3.
"Sonic 3" is Sonic 3: Ep. 1 in my book and Knuckles is Ep. 2 :\
When is Sonic Spinball 2 coming out

Hmmm yeah you can see how its different but after playing a couple of levels you dont notice because you end up holding the directions to compensate. The roll and spin dash isnt as good as it could be but its still not a problem. The spin dash still gets you out of steep dips and the roll has always been best for downhill so that you dont get hit anyway.
@Gigglepuffy:

only when sonic is once again at the pinnacle of success will the king come out.
only when sonic is once again at the pinnacle of success will the king come out.
Or when Sega decides to start Sega Technical Institute again.
Anyone who complains about Carnival Night 2's barrel puzzle is just stupid. It's a fairly good design. You just werent smart enough to work it out.
Oh yeah, because after a whole stage and a half of automatically moving barrels and barrels that you moved by timing your jumps it was a great design to make one single barrel that you control by standing on top of it and moving the D-pad up and down. Nope, I just hadn't exhausted every conceivable possibility for how the barrel could operate.
Are you playing it on an SDTV? This may be the cause, as I've noticed complaints about this and tested it out myself.
Seems Dimps forgot to make the game switch from HD to SD properly, as playing the game on an SD TV will merely force the game to be zoomed in and crop out the sides to fit in fullscreen.
Well, if by SDTV you mean a regular full screen TV, yeah, that's it. Like hell I can afford an HDTV.
Damn, Chemical Plant Zone. I don't think that one had air bubbles. I seriously would have to raise to the top of those moving platforms. The drowning timer would start up. It'd hit the one second mark the moments I splashed above the surface. Loved that stage though.
Chemical Plant Zone scared the shit out of me as a kid.
Demo looked amazing on my HDTV. You can find a few low costly ones now a days.
I liked what I played in the demo. Might buy it, but for the holidays.
So I beat Sonic 4 and have all the emeralds. The final boss is a monster the first time you fight him. After that he seems easier. Anyone run out of time on that darn torch puzzle? I nearly did.
Just played Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
Terrible. So upsetting and sickening.

I spent nearly 40+ lives on the final repeat part and the final boss. God damn, did I hate losing all of my rings just from getting hit once. >:|
@Hood:

Sure you didn't play Sonic the Hedgehog '06 instead?
I won't go as far to say I did… when it would be obvious that I'm referring to Sonic the Hedgehog 4, but regardless, it was shitty.
The "loop and straight up ramp" in this game is so damn bad.
For a quick second, I thought I had to hold up... to actually go up the fuckin' ramp.
Interesting videos by the way.
I saw a couple of videos done by you before, but I never thought you were here at Arlong Park. (The same goes for Fenberry)

I did ^_^ You gotta turn on the fourth, then wait a few seconds to turn on the third, but leave the second one off.
I was looking through the psn store today and saw sonic adventure for sale so I bought it. Though I had a sence of nostalgia while playing the first level, I still had all those freaking bugs and glitches through out the game. Boy they need to make Shenmue downloadable so I can cream my pants!
Managed to beat the first act in BARELY under a minute (59' 99)
Too bad it's only the trial :(
I can't beat it in less than 1'09" :(
Just played the demo, and I am not impressed at all.
I'm barely a fan of the older games, and even I could tell something was wrong.
Sonic felt stiff all around, and there were speed boosters all over the place. I didn't feel like I was doing anything half the time, except pressing the homing button.
Also, me and my bro were not at all taken in by the graphics; we both thought they were horrible.
You gon' get banned.
:V
Jk
Yeah.
XD
16 chars of the joke is gone
Alright .
