I've seen a lot of people around who sometimes go off topic about this matter, so i decided to start this poll. as for me, i love Nami's past the best (the only time i actually respected her)

Choppers and Sanji's weren't that bad. Sanji's was really heroic and brave. I like that one the most.
-
I think is luffy's one because I think is the least sad past
the others seem to have sad pasts :( -
Zoro we dint now what happened to his parents his best friend died trained like 8 years then became a pirate hunter…. boy they could make a seperate anime about his life :D

It's what made me really like Sanji.
-
Choppers was a real heart wrencher…
Btw, why is "robins past" an option, an not Norlands', Frankys'? -
Franky and Norland are my favorite overall, but out of those, I guess I like Chopper's.
-
I agree, there´s absolutely no need to have Robin on the poll since we didn´t see her past so far and I think that it will take some time until we learn the entire truth about it.
And just as Cap´n Carter said, Noland´s (or should I say Jaya´s) and Franky´s pasts should have been there too. Just because the personalities and the fates of Noland and Tom-san were absolutely awesome.Of the ones mentioned above I´ll go with Chopper, simply because of the reason that the entire story about Hiruluk was that what made me become a die hard One Piece Fan. Before that I was just watching it if I was home and had nothing else to do. :D
-
I'm also one for Franky. He's gone through probably the most changes and ordeals. He was just awesome his whole life.
-
I'm pretty partial to Norland, because it's pretty nice to see people who aren't superhuman monsters being badasses.
-
Norland was pretty damn strong. I liked how the book treated Norland as a joke, but in the flashback he was really mighty.
…...I hate that word.
-
Nami's and Chopper's…But I'm behind in the manga, I might like Franky's too.
I don't understand why Robin is on the poll either, unless in the chapters I've missed they revealed something more about her.
-
Nami and Chopper definitely >__<
Chopper following closely behind -
I think that Luffy had the best past
-
Gomen.
I shouldn't have added Robin in the poll, as for the other characters i haven't reached that far yet, so i don't know anything about them, by all means ingore my poll if it's not to your liking.
-
I think Sanji's is the most interesting.
-
I love all thier pasts, but for me it's a toss-up between Nami's and Choppers, because they both made me cry. Eventually I had to say Nami, because Bellemere's last words still bring in partial waterworks for me.
Oh hush, I'm a sap.
-
well ive voted for choppers past,
since it was so tragic and made me cry and before that i hadnt even shed a tear since i was 10 :P
-
Nami's and Chopper's are the saddest. But I didn't like how they kept on repeating scene's in Chopper's past in the anime over and over again. Franky's and Norland's past was sad too. But when Robin's past is revealed, hers might be the best.
-
Sanji, his past showed his greatful, also how Sepp sacrificed his leg for Sanji.
-
I agree with most that Nami's past is the best, it showed alot of character depth from everyone, especially Nami and Luffy, and it showed how much Luffy cared for his friends, and it ended very nicely indeed!!
Chopper would have been here if they had stopped throwing those flashbacks all the time!!
But since his not on my list, Nami and Luffy get top honour
-
Chopper, definitly, it was really sad… But I still love it.

Poor Chopper had to go through so much just because he ate a Devil Fruit, kind of reminds me on how Humans can sometimes be so cruel. :(
-
CHOPPER WAS THE BEST…
VERY NICE DRAMA THING WITH THAT DOCTOR GUY -
So far Chopper's then Nami's, when revealed definitely Robin's. It will apparently not be only personally tragical but it will bear some larger scale connotations on what the One Piece world is all about.
-
Luffy's is definitally the best. He got a devil fruit, a straw hat, and devotion to be a pirate. All the other stories were filled with death and sadness, but Luffy's was the only happy one. But if it was a choice, I would have gone with Franky's too.
-
I have to go with Nami's on this one. I've seen it countless times and I still cry….
Chopper's would have been better for me if I could actually figure out what was going on... somthing like he was sick and was going to die, then Chopper accidentally poisoned him, and then he blew himself up for Chopper... it was touching though... :( sniff
-
Choppers is so…..offbeat. You'll never see anything like it.
My favorite. -
Chopper's, because it actually made me cry.
-
I really liked all the main characters pasts, but Chopper and Nami's were my favourite. They were just filled with so much more character depth, probably because those two characters needed it the most. Mostly I like Nami's because of how Luffy acted and showed how far he would go for his nakama, and how Nami turned into a character you could care about (Bellemere kicked ass too). Chopper's stopped him from being just a stupid anime creature and turned him into a legit person to me… when he went all that way to get the plant... :(
And though it's not my favourite (yet?), just to mention it, Franky and Iceburg's past was one I really enjoyed.
-

Erm. Thsi debate is about their past, not the way they portrayed it in the animÃ. The BACKSTORY is the subject here. Not the amount of flashbacks, though I admit that it can get annoying.

I couldn't agree with you more thyan that, my dear Jewbagel. I couldn't agree more. Nami's backstory has appearently been under heavy work. Remember how she mentioned it already way back in the Buggy Arc? From the very beginning, Oda had a very deep character within Nami. All he needed was time to make her reach the climax (god, I did so not use that wording) and reveal all that there was to reveal.
However, I like Chopper's a lot more, a big part being your reasons about it making him a more legit person rather than a random cute fuzzy thing. I had that very thought from the beginning. "Okay, his design is neat and he has an interesting transformation… but is he just gonna jump around and be adorable?"
It's actually mostly Hiluluk and how much he meant for Chopper that makes it the best one. Showing how much human creatures (I count Chopper as human, and I refuse to count him as a simple reindeer) have to rely on each other in order to survive... (kind of like the Arlong Arc... remember Luffy's speech about Swordfighting, Navigating, Cooking and Lying? XD) And even in death, Hiluluk supported his and Chopper's ideals. It was ever so touching when he blew himself up, believing his purpose in life had been reached. So yeah, Chopper has my vote.
-
Listen here, Eshbaal, I didn't mean that Chopper's past was horrible, just that the flashbacks were damm annoying.
Everytime i felt sorry for chopper, another one of those flashbacks would occur, and what made it worst was they kept repeating the same flashback over and over again.
I love Chopper's past, there's no doubt about it.
And I love all the other character past has well, it doesn't mean that a bit of words will change that, words are words and will remain that
so next time you wanna say something against me, maybe you want to check back with me first

Whoa, whoa, whoa, chill for a second there. I did at no point throw any sort of offensive comments at you. I merely pointed out that the debate was about the story itself. I never even MENTIONED any sort of dislike towards Chopper's past. You're pretty much accusing me of things you're making up on the spot. Hell, I even agreed with you that repeated flashbacks can be annoying.
Let's return to the topic for now, hmm?
-
Whoa!!!! guys cool down, please don't bash each other. :(
-
I went overboard there, didn't I
I'am the sort of person that throws back at someone, and only later on think about my actions.
Point taken there, Eshbaal. So lets be friends again :D

When Chooper thought the poison symbol was good since it looked like a pirate flag, I cried. Here is my order-
Chopper
Nami
Zoro
Sanji
Luffy
Usopp -

When Chooper thought the poison symbol was good since it looked like a pirate flag, I cried. That action alone actually got the whole point behind Choppers story and the morale I think is hidden in One Piece. Nothing is impossible if you have something to strive for. Luffy strives to be a Pirate King, the Jolly Roger being his symbol. Hiluluk had taught Chopper that underneath a pirate flag, the impossible was possible. Mistaking that for medical symbols showed a lot of innocence and yet still deep character to the little reindeer. A touching scene indeed.
-
i really liked it when that happened plus we so what chopper did to get the mushroom. this guy has heart
-
(I was the only one that got emotional over Usopp's past?)
I chose Usopp's, but Nami and Sanji's past were VEERY close (Usopp's seemed the most familiar to me for some reason…).
-
nope i really got emotional on ussop story since his dad left him and mom died what else could happen. but the rest suffered during there growing time thats why i didnt pick him
-
You didn't go around lying to get out of trouble, did you now, Solar Knight
Or you want to tell me why your so familiar with Usopp
-
I went with Chopper. I kinda thought things were going to pick up after he got that mushroom for Hiluluk the first time I read it. How wrong I was.

**Awwww, come now, i too got really emotional.
I wonder why so few people picked Usopp (in fact Solar, you're the only one who chose usopp). He had a pretty though time too, His Mom died and his Dad left him. :(
-
Usopp was my second choice… ^_^

**Maybe  . If not telling someone how I feel emotionally, that is  .
Seriously though, I picked him because it seemed like something that would happen in real life. Even though Nami's was tragic, it seemed a little unrealistic to me.
-
Well, duh. One Piece IS unrealistic in general. And if you choose Usopp's because it's more realistic (and yes, I DID get emotional over Usopp's past, the other two just moved me MORE), then what about Zoro's? He, too, had a rough time. Though he had been hardened a bit, he lost his only ambition and probably also his only friend. The strongest opponent he had ever faced at that time, his greatest friend, and his biggest obstacle… killed by falling down the stairs.

As for this real life issue, could it be that someone here has done something "for real" and his hiding his guilt
