Naw, it's not a catfight. No ill will involved, I just have questions and I'm just trying to keep things interesting at the same time. We're being pretty civil here.

With the way the fight was presented, it just seemed anti-climatic that Neji is knocked out in one punch. Kishimoto made out like Neji is Jesus Christ and Naruto is a Magikarp using Splash. Naruto is just fine after being struck about a billion times all over his body, but Neji's glass jaw is shattered by a punch that likely [should have] expended most of its energy just trying to burst through the soil.

and no, not a cat fight at all. Just actually discussing naruto in the naruto section. =O
Not attacking Garaa for personal reasons, I just find his logic and points to be full of holes that I am pointing out.

And he was out of chakra. You're forgetting that in Naruto, being out of chakra is bad. What, you think that Neji can keep using that rotation (yeah, for some reason I'm going to use the translation name) with no consequences? And even then are you forgetting that Neji just got out of an explosion? One explosion can KO a person ya know.
Also, Neji only poked Naruto's chakra points 64 times, which was undone when Naruto used his second chakra.

Being out of expendible chakra doesn't suddenly make you a frail old man; it simply makes you tired. The only time you start to deteriorate is when you dip into the chakra you need to keep yourself alive.
Which doesn't make sense. Chakra should be chakra. If your holes are clogged, Kyuubi shouldn't be some magical Liquid-Plumr that gets rid of it.

I edited my 2nd post up.

A few things.
As for characters not being relevant and involved for the overall story, who's gonna make every single character play a huge role in the story? Not even One Piece does that. They mostly just play their roles in their arc, like with Team 10. As for Ino and Chouji being cheerleaders, this is partly the fault of how powerful the enemies in Naruto now are. Chouji actually did some stuff during that fight, it just wasn't any use against someone like Kakuzu. Ino didn't even attempt to fight because she wouldn't have been able to do anything.
For the thing about people complaining about 15 chapters with Sasuke at center stage, did occur to you that this arc is simply about Sasuke? The last arc had a bunch of chapters that were centered around Shikamaru with little appearences from Naruto. Does that suddenly mean that Shikamaru has become the main character of the series and Naruto is obsolete? The series will stop revolving around Sasuke once this arc is over, just wait.
I don't actually read Bleach, I just watch the dub, but from what I've seen Ichigo is just the standard shounen hero like Luffy or Goku while Naruto is a completely different type of main character, so I don't see the point in comparing how they're handled or anything.

The kyuubi is a second being inside of Naruto with a chakra of it's own. When Neji plugged Naruto's chakra, that doesn't stop the Kyubbi's from flowing. Neji stopped Naruto's source, but a new one forces it's way though Naruto's chakra lines or whatever they're called.
And yes, the Kyuubi can unclog it. It's fucking powerful chakra after all. That and, since Kishimoto inventing this manga's version of chakra, I'd trust him to know the physics of it…he made them up and he has the right to decide how it works.
That's like telling someone what their imaginary friend looks like, and frankly it's a little asinine.

While I do agree ichigo is the definition of standard shounen hero, I don't see Naruto being much different from Luffy and Goku. Atleast I wouldn't call naruto original while luffy is a cliche clone.
Its not a few characters, but ALL but team 7. Its expected that some lose purpose, but not everyone. In one piece at least, everyone has a place in the world, and their own conflicts and ambitions. Naruto characters don't even have that anymore. They are simply on call for when naruto needs them.
I agree with the 2nd paragraph tho. People just seem to hate sasuke.

Never said he couldn't. It is just bad writing. Win-buttons are never a good thing.
It's like someone telling you his imaginary friend s fighting a monster 10x his side, and kills him by pulling out a big ass laser cannon from his back pocket. He's free to imagine what he wants, but that doesn't change the fact that it is rather a stupid way to have things go.

No, it won't. Sasuke has always been the stupid little poster boy for Naruto. Even during the Chunin Exams, Sasuke was hyped up, even by adult ninja who wanted to watch him fight, as if he's some sort of deity.
Ichigo is nothing like Luffy. Luffy has obvious weakness and has a large amount of trouble with his fights, while Ichigo effortlessly rapes faces with his natural prowess. It's not as bad later on, but it's still pretty ridiculous.

What I meant was how Sasuke is basically at the center of the action in the manga at the moment. In the early series Sasuke was still there getting hyped and stuff, but he wasn't actually at the center of the story the way he is in this arc. Well, aside from the Orochimaru's curse seal part. But really if you're (general "you" being used) still complaining about Sasuke getting hyped, I don't see why you still read if it's apparently been like that since the beginning.
And what I meant by the generic hero like Luffy and Goku is that if there's a big bad guy going around doing evil stuff most of the characters will say "Well, if there's anyone who can beat this guy it's Goku/Luffy/Ichigo!" Not many people would say that about Naruto.
-
That's because Naruto sucks if he ain't mashing on his Kyuubi panic button.
Even with his Shadow Clones, he's no match for most of the antagonists that have been presented. Ichigo and Luffy are always a match for their opponent, even if the fight is long and some of it is due to luck.

but wasn't he crippled while naruto took on and beat a bijuu using his own abilities?
I mean sasuke did get alot of attention, but that was because of the type of main character naruto was. He was the underdog trying to get out of the famed uchiha genius' shadow. Just because you don't get attention doesn't mean you aren't the main character. In fact, a series based around a character like that wouldn't be very entertaining.
-
Let's leave One Piece outta this please, we know where that road heads.
-
@Cyringohn:
That, and Dragonball is an older manga. You can't compare new manga to old manga.
Because Naruto, at this point, has no excuse for what it does.
uhhhhhh….. WHY?

Only when you call attention to it like that. No one else thought much of it.

To stop any further argument, I'll end it here. I was just stating that no one is going "One piece pwns naruto" we are just using examples from other series to help convey our opinions. Only person who saw anything wrong with that was you. The rest of us are mature enough to handle it.
Don't reply to this.
Someone seems to take the internats personally. If it seems like I'm e-stalking you, it is only because your posts have had something I felt the need to comment on. I rarely look at who the poster is.

You know, people keep saying this, but to me each time Naruto has used the Kyuubi seems different to me….at least in part 1.
vs. Haku, it was just this new thing.
vs. Neji, Naruto summoned it with his own ability, and even then he only used the Kyuubi for a split second. The rest were clever-esque tricks with his clones and other clever tricks.
vs. Gaara, he was against another biju user, and even then he's using the chakra to use his clone and summoning jutsus. And whatever that heatbutt was.
vs. Sasuke, Nartuo completely relied on the kyuubi's power. However, it protrayed Naruto as something desparate to stop Sasuke from leaving, kind of like selling your soul to the devil. His talent really wasn't the issue here.
So, yeah, that's my opinion. The kyuubi doesn't seem that bad to me, though it seems that Kishimoto probably out of ways to spin this plot device. I don't think it fucks up his dream to be hokage, because he's so fucking young that he still has time to accomplish this goal. Although, at this point the only way Naruto can use the Kyuubi and say it's his own talent is if he beats down the Kyuubi himself and forces it to give him his chakra.

I agree completely. XP
I forgot for a second that he learned to harness the kyuubi chakra during the neji fight. I was thinking of it being just naruto going berserk kyuubi mode(red-eyes and all).
Too tired to try to analyze his kyuubi usage in part 2 tho.
Didn't he not use kyuubi against garaa until the final headbutt charge? I forget.
-
its just a way to feed him infinite backup Chakra when his opponents would normally have the upper hand by a, getting rid of his use of it (Neji *all his chakra and Jutsu after Neji's big attack were Kyuubi funded), or b, just plain superior so he needs a High class jutsu to take em out, (Rasengan (Jirya said something about that before showing him the move) and Toad summon)
-

Don't alot of shounen series use that.(bleach for example and his hollow mask during the soul society arc. I think he won the majority of the fights he had because of the mask and the hollow inside him, which seemingly came out of nowhere.)
I don't really think naruto should be harped at for giving the main character an edge.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
–Naruto used his own chakra to make the clones which beat down Gaara.
--This drained his chakra, and forced him to use the summoning jutsu, which can only be used by using the Kyuubi's ckara and when Naurto is out of his own. So, this is a really indirect way of using Kyuubi.
--and even then, Naruto only uses the Kyuubi for that one headbutt against Gaara.
Really, it seems like people exaggerate how much Naruto uses the Kyuubi. It's just that one fight against Sasuke....in part 1.
I'm not really interesting in part 2, cause the chase scene with Deidara was one of the suckiest parts of this manga.
-
oh I'm not, but there are series where character go into a fight knowing what they know and don't win just because of something hidden.
that Neji bit was highly entertaining, and power-ups can be
and one, the entire second half of the Neji fight was Kyuubi chakra, the reason hes able to summon that many clones at once is the Kyuubi, the reason Jirya taught him Rasengen was Kyuubi.
-

Kyuubi wasn't hidden then tho. Naruto was just using it. I don't think he knew he could force his chakra point open by doing it, but he had to try.
I mean isn't that what narut fights are all about? Using what you have to win. Complaining about naruto using kyuubi is the same as complaining about neji's byakugan as it was also birth given.
-
I agree the only time it was over the top was when Sasuke punched one of his lungs with the Chidori during VoTE
I like all the underlying concepts in Naruto, and even some of the character, it just takes itself WAY to seriously (which in turn makes it good fun to mock)
-
Hey guys, read this:
http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=235672
Possible conclusion of the fight?
-
A few things:
-Naruto had massive chakra reserves in the first place due to the Kyuubi within him. Even before he started relying on his Kyuubi chakra, he had enough that he mastered the massive Shadow Clone Jutsu in chp. 1.
-The most annoying thing about all the Sasuke focus in this section is that it seems like he's been the focus of the manga all throughout pt. 2, if not in everything since the "Chase Sasuke" arc. I mean look at how the actions in pt. 2 have played out:
*Rescue Gaara arc: Naruto and Sakura show off all they've learned…for the means of rescuing Sasuke
*Sai/Sasuke arc: They end up meeting up with Sasuke and begin seeing how uber he's become under Orochimaru
*Wind Training/Immortals arc: Seeing how uber Sasuke has become, Naruto is driven by his desires for Sasuke to go through this super training to gain some ability not even the Fourth could do.
*Current Arc: Sasuke keeps showing off how uber he is by defeating a disabilitated Orochimaru, makes a team of idiots (well OK, Suigetsu is cool even if he's a retcon for Zabuza) and then goes toe-to-toe with another Akatsuki all while trying to reach his brother.
Thus, even when Sasuke isn't there, he is, driving all the actions and overshadowing what could be a massive threat to all ninja villages in the form of Akatsuki. Isn't that enough reason to be sick of him?-All three characters of the major shonen series of today are all continued development of past characters such as Goku, Kinnikuman...maybe even Kenshiro. However, each mangaka has taken a different approach to them which have affected their series appropriately. Luffy is a typical shonen hero, but Oda is able to make him likeable and overcome odds against more powerful enemies even while being beaten down to reach for his ultimate goal. Ichigo is a little more standard and has more angst problems compared to the other two as well as the uncontrollable "uber power" of his Hollow abilities. Kubo unfortunately isn't making too much of his story but he can make his fights interesting. Meanwhile, Naruto is floundering around trying to keep asserting himself...yet keeps being in the shadow of his "co-main" in Sasuke. Yes, Kishi did at least attempt to make a more underdog hero in Naruto, but with the inconsitancies in the story and all that's going on, he's failed to show the character growth alongside the power growth of his main.
-
Wait one year later and then we'll see if your arguments have the reason or simply you'll have to rectify. Criticize Kishi when the series currently are ongoing is the most stupid thing I've heard. Maybe Naruto doesn't seem he's going to do something, but who knows when Kishi iwill surprise us with something like: Naruto summoming Gamakichi, using 100% of his technique, showing another tail or using new jutsus, who knows.
-
Criticize Kishi when the series currently are ongoing is the most stupid thing I've heard.
No, it's not.
If somebody is doing a poor job with a task, it shouldn't matter if they're finished with it or not. That person is still doing a poor job.
vs. Neji, Naruto summoned it with his own ability, and even then he only used the Kyuubi for a split second. The rest were clever-esque tricks with his clones and other clever tricks.
A split second? Naruto used it to give him enough strength to fight back, launch an assault against Neji, create a Shadow Clone, etc.
He still used it to suddenly win a fight that he had no chance of winning.
-
Poor job? You want to make me laugh? Like other mangakas he's doing his best. Only your hate for Sasuke and the fact that you don't want to admit Kishi's good job and inspiration and don't like his style are your stupids reasons.
And I don't like Sasuke now too, but not at the point to say something stupid like he makes his job poor. You're simply a totally IDIOT and not have any idea about the plot and the characters. Try to say that in NF. At least this is a OP forum so it's not strange.
-

Go to a Naruto forum and express a dislike for Naruto? Of course it's going to be spat upon. What kind of stupid statement is that? That's like saying: "Go to the Bronx and announce that you're a racist! See how people there will take it!" Durh-da-durh-durh.
NF is a plague upon humanity. Look at the shit. People attempt to calculate the speed of Ichigo. WOW THEMS PEOPLES SURE IS SMART
It's fine if he's "doing his best", but he's still doing a poor job. Part I established many fan-favorite characters, then just totally left them in obscurity. Naruto should have just started at the part where Sasuke suddenly takes over the manga, so people would know what they were getting into.
That, and this is all somebody's opinion. You can't exactly tell Gohn that he's wrong.
-
No comment on your arguing, but mangafan, one thing I've wanted to tell you. Do you think you'll actually have a chance in changing these people's opinions of Naruto? Why would you even bother to know if some One Piece fansite likes the series? There are enough Naruto-fansites out there. Why are you even still trying to argue with those Naruto-haters? If you like the series, it's fine to me. If someone else doesn't think Naruto is that good, it should be okay with you, too.

Ok, you're right, those people are simply haters yes. But sometimes they're say stupid arguments that irritate me and anyone who likes the series. But okay, you're understandable. Now I'm more calmed, thanks.

but that was his training. Calling upon the kyuubi chakra on his own will and controlling it. Notice how he kept his blue eyes using the chakra. He was just using the chakra of kyuubi, not kyuubi taking control of him.
and you can't say "naruto wouldn't have won because of kyuubi". He is using what he was given. That'd be the equivalent of saying "Neji wouldn't be so good if he didn't have byakugan.". I don't care if one is a bloodline and one is a beast. Both are advantages given to them by birth, and they shouldn't be considered "cheap asses" for learning to control and utilize them.

and it has nothing to do with us being one piece fans. Mangafan just always brings a weak arguement. I was convinced the neji fight was kyuubi saving naruto until Onemoment reminded me what really happened. If mangafan actually posted a coherent arguement, people might agree with some of his points.
I mean imo, alot of peoples reasons for disliking naruto are more justified than mangafans reasons for liking it.
I mean Gohn says he doesn't like how the chuunin exams genin were established to be reoccurring characters, then just disappear and lose all relevance from the plot, to which mangafan relies "Come on guys, hes doing his best. If you go to narudofan, they tell you".
So its not that we are haters, mangafan is just a massive fanboy.
-

Moderate it then, or I'm going to think you're a hater too

To be completely honest, I think he's a good artist, his taijustsu scenes and anatomy are envy worthy, if not a little simplistic but I always found that simplicity of line in anatomy to be a good thing (even though his heads have been annoyingly flat and caved in as of late). I don't think he does his backgrounds though.
His plot sucks though. There's too many spots that are unclear and seem to contradict themselves, dramatic moments (Asuma's Death) can be seen from miles away, and the story it'self is horribly simplistic- not what you'd expect from a wartime ninja story. What I mean by that is that there doesn't seem to be anything going on when Naruto isn't involved. I would have expected alot of different nin to be on the move, doing behind the scenes stuff that would keep building and building until the climax of the story. That's how good writing works, if you're trying to convey a serious story. Not like, one guy running around with out no real planning, taking out the best of the best one by one, while the other atkasuki just sit in their cave posing for color spreads.
-
It's nice how anybody that doesn't like Naruto, even if they have good, sound reasoning, is a "hater."
As for Kishimoto's artwork, it's mediocre. Granted, most mangaka cannot draw to their full potential when they need to make weekly releases [as they cannot waste time adding detail to everything], but there are plenty of other weekly-based mangaka that leave Nartuo eating dust.
Fuck, what Gohn draws could eat Kishimoto's color spreads for breakfast.
-
Really? I like his colorspreads. Especially the recent ones(the fuujin/raijin coloring and the team snake one).
and I agree with taboo on his earlier fight scenes. Lee vs. Garaa was great in the manga as well. I feel his recent stuff tho, is unbelievably lazy.(Kabuto rush.) and there seems to be no excuse with him just drawing the characters standing in an open field in cloaks half the chapter.
and that is what I mean by lacking a world. Nobody else is doing anything while the main characters aren't in play. Instead of having Gai's team following a lead in another country while this is happening, only the characters in play…..are in play. No one else is doing anything relevant.
If my prediction is correct tho, the arc after this is the final one and all the genin teams will be in the action in some form or another. Possibly tackling different objectives at the same time.
-
Speaking of Naruto, anybody see the dub yesterday? Can't believe they got away with that "She slipped me a mickey" line. Haha indeed.
-
Really? I like his colorspreads. Especially the recent ones(the fuujin/raijin coloring and the team snake one).
Most of his color spreads aren't very imaginative. It's usually just people standing around, while one other person is maybe doing something action-based.
Then again, Gohn is used to One Piece color spreads, where everybody is flailing about on a flying train while playing clarinets with their ass cheeks and dancing with rainbow-spewing animals.
Still need to make an art thread in the Creativity Forum. Just ain't gotten around to it yet.
-
Well, you have to know that we don't know how he's going to develop the story. Its true that there're many points without resolution, but all at it's time, ok? For example the chapter that made Kabuto one of the most interesting characters actually. Unpredictable right? After an amount of time we'll know what Kabuto's planning. For example. Another point without resolution yet: Naruto/Yondaime relation. Lets leave Kishi doing his job and i'll be better.
It's necessary that his colorspreads being all imaginative? I don't think so, I think his colorspreads are nice.
If my prediction is correct tho, the arc after this is the final one and all the genin teams will be in the action in some form or another. Possibly tackling different objectives at the same time.
That would be so cool, but after the Kabuto chapter I don't see the next being the final unless it last +100 chapters. Including that AL and BH haven't appeared yet.
-
Kishi's spreads aren't that bad. The art is decent, it's just his wierd choice in colors. And Kishi is still a great artist, he's just lazy. His Part 1 drawings were awesome. He still has the gift, he just isn't using it properly. Personally, I think he's rushing ahead in order to start on that mafia manga he wants to do so badly (which I'm definitely checking out BTW).

That would be three years later minimum.

Wait one year later and then we'll see if your arguments have the reason or simply you'll have to rectify.
I have been waiting for 4 years.

@Tokoro:
Yes, Kishi did at least attempt to make a more underdog hero in Naruto, but with the inconsitancies in the story and all that's going on, he's failed to show the character growth alongside the power growth of his main.
DING DING DING
We have a winner.
Naruto is an original main character. Unfortunately his originality lies in his suckiness. So even what could have been a good point for Kishimoto is actually a failure on his part.
As for Naruto's art, I personally think early Naruto shat all over early One Piece, current Bleach, Togashi's garbage and 90% of all shonen production. Then around volume 18 he simply stopped giving a shit and now it's sometimes laughable.

I think that another huge problem regarding the evolution of Naruto's character is that he has massive potential at the beginning with the Kyuubi chakra, yet ends up using it to make a fool of himself before eventually learning to harness it. The Kyuubi potential alone makes him greater than any old ninja, so of course that's his path of becoming more "uber".
It would have been more interesting seeing the growth and development of a more "normal" ninja in this series on the path to becoming great. No special chakra, no special bloodlines or superior heritage: just a normal ninja who slowly grows and learns to use their strength and weaknesses to become great against all odds.
