I know that, I just merely pointed it out.

It's not a lie, it's a change of plans when fair warning is always given that such is a possible outcome.
-
I think one of the biggest factors in release dates in general has to do with whatever other products a company is releasing at a given time, and right now FUNimation has a lot on their plate. They still have another big series that they have yet to release as well, "Sgt. Frog".
-
I should try to get a job over at FUNimation. o_O Maybe it'll (doubt it) help lighten the load some. I've always wanted to work in the anime business anyways.
-

Damn since when?
-
@Sandai:
Damn since when?
Since ADV ended their relationship with Sojitz and all the anime they licensed through them except "Gurren Lagann" got transferred to FUNimation. One of those former ADV titles was "Sgt. Frog", and from a convention report I read they'll probably release it in late spring or early summer of 2009.
-
What bothers me about the release date is that we keep hearing that they're really far ahead - I think I heard they got to Chopper well over a month ago, so I don't quite understand why it takes as long as it does.
That said, I'm basically just waiting for someone to ask the right question at a convention, namely:
Why does it take so long between releases if you're moving at this quick of a pace?
I'd like to think there's a logical explanation for it that I'll go "oh, well that makes a lot of sense". I've been sitting and thinking on this and I have a few ideas as to WHY the releases are so slow (and I asked one of my roommates who is going into editing for another one). Basically, I would be more understanding of the slow releases if I understood why it takes so long.
-
FUNimation has always planned their releases long after they actually finish production anyway, and Toei Animation has a heavy hand in approving everything too, that's the main reason why it's taking so long for the FUNimation "One Piece" website to get updated. But yeah, that's the most troublesome thing, why are they getting through these episodes so quickly when they won't get released on DVD for a while the way things are going? Maybe it's what Toei Animation wants, after all they still have an interest in getting it on T.V., also Gen Fukunaga wants to get some digital distribution going with the series.

These seem like only preliminary release/pre-order dates, but AnimeonDVD is a rather reliable forum, so maybe we'll see Third Voyage before Feb…
-
At this point, release dates don't phase me that much. I realize that FUNi has a lot on their backs right now, so it's not like they're delaying it on purpose.
Oh, and when I finally do bitch that these need to come out sooner, it won't be for a "I want my fix NOW why doesn't FUNimation love me" reason, more like a "I'm not looking forward to picking up 24th voyage when I'm 34" reason.
-
Pretty much what LC says. I could actually wait for it, but I can't really wait for the Arlong arc, one of my favorites in OP. :D
-
Here's an update from AnimeonDVD.com Forums:
can you post a link to that post please?
-
So far my only problem with release dates is that Baratie seems longer than it really is now, so I'm slightly annoyed with it even though the Arc is my favorite out of the East Blue Arcs.
-
Sorry to be off topic with this but this link says OP Unlimited Cruise might come to the U.S.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=944319&topic=45840998It says that Namco-Bandai needs lots of support from fans to bring it over stateside. I say we form a "Mother" like cult to bring the game stateside.

Sure thing.
-
Several things:
I don't expect something like a release every month, although I can't say I'd be unhappy with that. I admit to not understanding the process - that's why I want to ask about the process itself to better understand.
I AM happy to see that it's being released in January instead of February, although that means I'll have to save more money because I'll probably want to get Ouran at that time, too. Thank you for posting, Original Bills!
Unlimited Cruise: NICE! Thanks Snowmint!

Also, tell them to release it in Europe.

Also, tell them to release it in Europe.
Unfortunatly, I dought Funimation has any to little plans to make any one piece releases in europe.
-
It says that Namco-Bandai needs lots of support from fans to bring it over stateside. I say we form a "Mother" like cult to bring the game stateside.
And yet despite all the culting around people did for Mother 3 the best thing you got was a fan translation something you most likely would've got anyway.
-
Finally, I got my Second Voyage set from Right Stuf! Time to partake!
-
Namco-BANDAI decide where UC gets released, FUNimation simply localizes the game, in coordination with Chris Sabat's Okratron 5000 company.
-
@Yuugi's:

And yet despite that helpful piece of information people are still going to keep assuming otherwise like Mortal Kombat vs DC not having fatalities or Blood.
-

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing. "Mother" has gotten so much support and the third one is one of the top games on gamefaqs right now, it's not just another cult series anymore, and yet Nintendo still hasn't done shit. Oh well, I'm pretty sure "Earthbound will come out on the Virtual Console sooner than later and if that sells well there's a better chance something will happen.
About UC, I'll believe it when I see it. I only know Namco-Bandai to release games of anime that are currently on T.V., and "One Piece" is currently not on American T.V.

Adding on top of that for whatever reason when Ultimate Ninja 2 came out (Bandai) dropped a character and a stage which were associated with the first Naruto movie eventhough ironically enough they included 2 trailers of the first movie on the game, pulled the same crap with Uzumaki Chronicles by dropping Tsunade out of the game because she hadn't yet appeared in the american dub.
-
Even with the show on TV Unlimited Adventure was missing from all the major retail stores except GameStop which didn't even seem to order that many copies per store.
-
Well considering some things it shouldn't be that much of a shock but then again that be ironic assuming they're are probably stores that still sell games like Beowulf,Catwoman, & Lair.
-
There wasn't a very big push for the game at all, not many ads and it was released for less than the average Wii game. The games released under 4Kids didn't sell that well so they probably released it under modest expectations, and I assume it paid off, I heard it sold alright.
-
Well, looking at that site.
http://www.urban-collector.com/one-piece-season-1-dvd-box-set-nov085212.html
That is fucking expensive when I could find it on Amazon about a month after release for ~$30…
-
So, I watched up through ep 17, plus the commentary. Excellent work, as per usual, and the commentary had plenty of good points; as a fandub actor and producer, I definitely hear them when they talk about a balance between the technical checks and getting an organic read.
I'll start on the rest soon! Then I should go ahead and watch 1-26 in Japanese, as I haven't done that yet…

Check the Site again.
It's offering it as "One Piece Season 1" not 3rd Voyage.
This site apparently thinks 3rd Voyage will be the Final box in Season 1, so it's lumped all 3 boxes in for sale at 66 bucks.
Notice they also offer "Fullmetal Alchemist Complete Uncut DVD set" For 92 Bucks.
That's the WHOLE series, and S'far as I know, it's NEVER been or has no Scheduled release for the WHOLE series in ONE Box. -
Hmm, where does it say that? I never noticed it…
-
One Piece Season 1 Dvd Box Set is an Urban Collector pre-order. From FUNimation Productions, Inc.! When Don Krieg unleashes his array of weapons, Luffy fights him head on, armed only with his bare fists, to save the restaurant Baratie from a hostile takeover. Later, with Sanji joining his crew, Luffy sets sail in pursuit of Nami who has run off with the S.S. Merry Go and ends up at Arlong Park, the headquarters of the terrifying Mermen pirates! Scheduled to ship in January 2009.
-
Aren't the two disc sets still referred to as box sets?
-
Sure, but you wanted to know where it said "Season one", that's where it says it. :P
-
I'm hoping for the Janurary release. It's still not fast enough, but it's better than February.
It would make sense that the Unlimited Cruise series is on GameStop's upcoming game list and system. If I remember a few weeks ago, didn't somebody post that Chuck Huber or some other FUNi rep say that they're pretty sure that Brook has been cast. Since the anime is nowhere near Thriller Bark in terms of TV airings and DVD releases, the only logical explanation is that FUNi is working on or has interest in localizing Unlimited Cruise.

That would make a lot of sense. But. . . where did this info about Brook show up?
-
Someone from Funi mentioned that they'd already cast Brook.
Sooo…they're going with Mermen instead of fishmen, huh?
Interesting and I prefer mermen. -
That was just the description from one of the 4Kids dvds. Whatever site that came from lazily just used it for FUNi's DVD.
I doubt they'll use "Merman" since that's an incorrect term for them. Oda stated it so.
-
The fact that Brook is cast, if this is true, does support a strong case for Unlimited Cruise. I mean, what else would they use Brook for? Movie 10? That's not even out in Japan yet.
-
Where and when was it stated Brooke was cast?
-
Is this stuff about Brook being casted referring to that panel at Anime Fest with Mike Tatum and Chuck Huber?
From what I read they said by their calculations Brook should be cast by now. That does not sound like a definite yes to me.
-
I don't believe that story, we never got further proof of it, and the whole thing was unprofessional sounding. I still say it's a fake.
Also, you guys kinda have to choose between fast DVD releases, or slower DVD releases with a TV dub. They are already booking overtime, if they do get OP back on air, the DVDs will not be able to be worked on as much.
-
Not if they catch up soon.
We got reports like a Month ago they were on 90 something.
That means they have only about 50 eps till they're caught up with where they started originally -

That's not true. DVD production and T.V. broadcast are two different departments. What happens is that a lot of times T.V. channels will make deals with the anime companies so that episodes must air before they get released on DVD.
-
Well, who knows? Besides the higher ups at FUNimation, of course.
-
@Ao:
Sooo…they're going with Mermen instead of fishmen, huh?
Interesting and I prefer mermen.Notice how the description also says "S.S. Merry Go". In other words, that's totally not the official description.
-
Looks to me like they just Copy-pasted the 4kids Description of the DVD from when that happened.
-

So Fish-men is the correct name?
-
Fishmen is what they use in Unlimited Adventure. So yes.
-
When did they use Fishmen in Unlimited Adventure? Also remember that they used Shichibukai and shudders Alabaster.
