@Bad-Beat:
I really like the Luffy/Nami costume one, e1n. Why your shading is awesome, there is something equally appealing about the top half of Nami, without any shading. I think it would be interesting to see one without your shading in it, not to say stop it.
it's just a matter of contrast. shading is used to create depth by using values, where the values are decided by how far apart the lines are. lines that are closer together implies darker shades. the nice thing about line shading is that if you lineshade 2 areas with lines in different direction, even if they have the same value, the readers know that they are 2 different areas. kinda like using the same shade, but different colors, and in this case the colors are decided by the direction of lines.
as for nami's top half, i purposely didn't shade that because the arms are already shaded. if her top is also shaded, then it would blend in with everything that she's wearing. the color i had in mind for her outfit is bright red and black, and the shaded parts of her outfit is essentially the blacks. her top, however, i wanted it to be bright red, and since brightred and black are very contrasting, it's easier to just not shade that in.
lemme try drawing my next drawing (whatever it is) without lineshade, and you'll see how plain it is. xD
