Bolt is fucking unreal. He's in another league than the athletes participating this year. When you consider his record is 0.02 seconds faster than the previous record it really puts it in perspective but he completely blew the FUCK out of the competitors this Olympics. Good for him and good for Jamaica.

^yup he dusted them w/o trying it seemed
In the gymnastics they were cheating though, no way that (underage) Chinese girl won she messed up and everything
-
The 200m I mean, did you see it already over there? He didn't have quite as impressive a lead as he did in the 100m but he still blew them away.
-
USAIN BOLT DAMMIT.
he would have done 9.58 or something if he didn't brake so much in the 100m.
great 200M. i remember back in 1996 when commentators said they would not see the record broken in their life.
-
Yay Communism?

I don't mean to detract from that amazing victory but it's like 0.02 seconds? If commentators actually said that, they shouldn't be commenting. When a HUNDREDTH of a second makes a difference, never say never. I'd give it another 2 Olympics that is if 'Lightning' Bolt doesn't obliterate it himself sooner.

but now, that's really going to far. and it's about swimming. guys, SWIMMING.
American Baby Boomers love to flaunt how awesome they are to their kin in the rest of the world, it's unsurprising that news media folks are going ga-ga over it. You can bet Generation Y is going to be far more humble + mellow.
-
I don't understand why triathlon isn't a olympic discipline. I mean, if swimming, cycling and running are disciplines seperatly, it wouldn't be strange for this to become one or am I just thinking wrong here it would even be more then logical. Besides, everyone makes such puhaaa about marathon and how killer it is and I bet it is but in a whole triatlon they run 42 kilometers AFTER having swum 5 kilometres and having driven 180 kilometres by bike so THOSE are true endurance sportsmen.

I keep kicking myself for missing the Equestrian events. And the US is doing really good, too!
-
flandrian15 - but there WAS triathlon already… a guy from Germany won if I'm not wrong... although they did swim like 1,5km, ride 40 and run 10km, so it's not so killing, but still it is considered as a triathlon
-
So….the US boxing team is down to one guy. Shame because we actually had some talent, but the head coach (Dan Campbell) is an idiot.
I've also been watching Phelps, Bolt, the Volleyball girls, and even the girls' gymnastics. Pretty good stuff all around. Haven't seen to much of USA basketball because why would I wake up at 6 for something I know the result...which is the US team by domination.

Bolt seemed happy about flaunting his victory and even acting LITERALLY like a monkey whenever the camera was on him yet I don't hear any comments about that.
There's nothing wrong about getting excited about something that's remarkable.

Hey, manga is manga. My beef is with the real teams and more than that, their pain in the ass fans. No need for shields up ;)

Someone can wiki me here but didn't they lose last Olympics despite being a group of NBA players simply because they all thought they were the shit and didn't work as a team? Or was that some other play-off or something?
-
I don't care for sports, but I did watch the Olympics a few times. What I liked in what I saw was soccer, volleyball and weight lifting. Maybe I'll go watch some more on USA right now, got nothing better to do.
-
It's a real shame those two guys got disqualified. That guy who was supposed to be 4th did not seem happy with his bronze either. Rules are rules I guess. It was a real good race. Bolt went all out from start to finish.
-
An open letter to Tyson Gay,
Regarding the 100m x 4 Relay, bet you feel really cool about wearing your fuckin' hat sideways at the opening ceremony now huh boss?
There's a lot of stuff I bitch about in Japan that annoys the shit out of me, but one of the things I really appreciate about life here is the importance of professional appearance. Granted they take it to extremes at times but when you wear a uniform, you represent all the people you wear it for. Altering any aspect of that isn't being cute or hip or unique, it's avoiding a standard because YOU want to be different or 'cool'. When I saw him smiling with his hat on sideways during the opening ceremony I pulled a real face palm. You looked really cool fumbling for that relay stick didn't you Tyson?
Bolt went all out from start to finish.
Fuck yeah he did. He tore the shit out of that track.
edit:
Re: Women's 200m
I want whatever the fuck is in the water in Jamaica….just so long as it's legal.
-
I'm a little dissapointed how the 4x100 relay semi-finals turned out. I was cheering for Jamaica to win this event, but I really hoped they'd have to try hard and have some heavy competition. Now the final won't be that much of a big event.

IOC President asks Bolt to show more respect for competitors
I…I'm sorry, WHAT?
If I was a few hours from my 22nd birthday, made history and changed my life forever in less than 20 seconds, I'd sure as hell be freakin' out too. He's a kid on the biggest althetic stage on the planet; cut him a little slack, plz.
-
You know, it didn't hit me AFTER he won so much as it did BEFORE the race.
When he started rubbing his head and doing his pose, that was really unprofessional. I dunno why that wasn't addressed because after he just won….who gives a crap? He's the fastest known man alive, let him celebrate how he likes. But that narcissistic show during his announcement really wasn't cool.
Funny side-story.
The Japanese boy-band Arashi provides the theme song for the Olympics on NHK this time and they have the members doing various Olympic-related things. They have one of the whelps attempting to do interviews with athletes and failing miserably. When Bolt walked by him during the post press conference the Arashi member stuck out his hand to shake/get his attention and Bolt didn't even look him in the eye and brushed him off.
-
yay, Belgian has a medal too, 1 lousy medal, silver :P Oh well. [Sarcasm]The president of the IOC can be proud of his country[/Sarcasm]

Woot! for US Women's Soccer!!! Come from behind victory!
I love how US men's soccer stinks in comparison to the rest of the world, but in women's soccer we kick BUTT.

The Gold medal game between the US and Brazil [women] was deadlocked 0 - 0 in Extra Time. The US scored the go-ahead goal in the 96th minute. They did not come from behind.
-
The normal men's team [not the Olympic team] does not suck. It is merely average. You also have to understand that most of the world cares little for women's soccer, so it is much easier for the US to dominate.
The men's team also has to contend with a mainstream media that despises it, idiotic coaching, losing America's first tier athletes to other sports, like American "Football", Baseball, and basketball, and the fact that men's soccer is treated as a religion in most of the world. That's why it's much more difficult for the US men to do well.
- The US men's olympic team was 3 seconds away from the medal round until Holland scored on a fluke free kick to end the game in a draw. Had the US won the match, they would've had the points needed to move on to the next round.

yay, for Korea getting a gold in Baseball.
