Oh yeah, I forgot to say that I wasn't able to find volume 2 and 3 in the library (I'll be reading it anyway, after I finish something else). I'll read v 11 also on internet, since I cant find that either, and 12-18 I'll read by book

Well, I suppose so. >_>
Does Deimon have a college counterpart? I could see the series skipping to there, actually.

No thet don't, that's why The original trio has to leave their club activities after this year. No high school that is not connected to a college allows third year club activities. Schools that do have a college can allow this because acceptance is mandatory (Ojo, Zokugaku, and Sengoku are all confirmed as having them, Kyoshin and Seibu may have them as well).
Japan has one fo the most infamous education system in the world, and they take college very seriously. Those who go to a high school attached to a college, don't have to take acceptance tests (which are supposedly extremely hard). Schools that aren't connected (Like Deimon) don't allow club activities there third year, so that the students can concentrate on studying for college entrance exams. It's not just football that has this, but all clubs in the school.
-
I swear! Everytime I hear this theory I get more and more sick!
Hiruma will NOT blackmail anyone to play a third year! How many times does it have to be said, Hiruma loves football! He loves it and he HONORS it. Hiruma wants to win the christmas bowl, and he wants to be the REAL champion, and he knows that if he cheats (which blackmailing would be) then he won't be the real champion. To be the real champion he needs to follow the rules. If he actually did do use the book to get by the rules, then I would completely, and totally lose all respect for him. He would just be a rule breaking cheater.
Hiruma's blackmailing thing has gone out of control in this fandom. Hiruma's threat book is always used in comical situations, it's never been used in real serious ones (as the "no-third year for schools not attached to a college" rule would be), with the possible exception of getting the school board at Mao to let them keep practicing. It's a JOKE, not a genuine plot point. It's there to fill out Hiruma's character, and give him a true comical point, but it will never play a genuine major role in the plot.
This is Hiruma's last chance at the Christmas Bowl, it's one of the major themes of this series, that this year is alot of people's last chance. Like I said before, if Hiruma actually did blackmail the commissioner (yeah, the commissioner, not the principal he has in his pocket) I would lose all respect for him. If he was that kind of person, he would have blackmailed his way into the Christmas bowl last year or before that. It's not gonna happen.
Don't let anyone know how much of Maniac you are =P. But seriously it's no reason to get all bent shape over sometinhg like that especially if it's just theory ,I mean I'm pissed at how Prince Of Tennis just recently came to end but I didn't go all over board criticizing it even if it felt like a cop-out. In conclusion after seeing how POT I really hope E21's conclusion isn't as vague and underwhelming as the former I really wouldn't be able to stand being let down by a good manga again.

You're right, but still, the theory of Hiruma blackmailing his way into everything and anything is very, very prevalent in E21 fandom, and it tends to drive me a little nuts (Hiruma has only blackmailed someone outside of a comical situation once, and that was in flashback). It feels sometimes like we're reading different series, but I suppose it's natural among fans to see different things.

Prince of Tennis was good?

The manga yes the ending no.

The ending was basically more of the same: a distinctly hollow experience. Nothing special, and certainly nothing to call 'good'.

Well, I'd say Yukimura lost to himself. He forgot tennis was about having fun and thus Ryôma–who remembered it being so--won.
Maybe a sequel is in the works?
As for E21, it had never occured to me that Hiruma would not find some sort of loop hole but I guess that's that. If he and the others plan on going to college would it be too out of character for him to set up a club at a college with no FB club? The 'X Devil Bats'? It'd give the series incentive to skip ahead two years and up the anti a little. Bah, what do I know?
-
Somehow if ES21 gets a sequel down the line (not counting "the next year"), I actually would rather see a new combo of players, maybe some we know from other HS, come together in the same college or something to compete for that level's championship. But I already understand by now that the series ends with the Christmas Bowl. Once Deimon gets there…heck, even if they beat Teikoku, everything they wanted to accomplished will be complete. To do it again next year would be not only without several of the current players but also "easier" akin to them becoming a dominant team ala Ojo or Shinryuji...and somehow, seeing Deimon in that position may not be my type of thing.
-
Well, there's always the Rocky III card to play or the 'scrambling to stay on top while forgetting to have fun' card.
-

Just as long as we don't have Sena saying "Football is fun!" and unlocking a super-uber running power because of it, I wouldn't mind that.
-
The Prince of Tennis for the…win? I honestly thought it was a fair unlocking but whatever...

From what I've seen I've never really liked PoT. I was just using that as an example as to what I didn't want in ES21. Sure its got some cliches but Inagaki and Murata do at least attempt to try and stay away from them or at least do them in a way they don't seem obvious.
-
Well, even though they would be at the top just now because they have won against many strong opponents it could still be about them making their way at the top again (or maintaining), now that they wont have some of the key players. (Hiruma, Kurita, Musashi etc)
Besides, since Hiruma will not be there to play anymore they would have to rely more than just bluffs and tricks and play offensive in their own way. -
Somehow it just screams to me that it would be easier for Deimon to recruit for next year after their success this year. Sure they wouldn't be with a good chunk of their core (Hiruma, Kurita, Musashi, Yukimura), but they could get a strong freshman class that would patch up these holes and keep them a really strong contender.
Somehow, with many of the stronger players already commited to play next year on many of the teams, it would mostly end up being a copy of this year but with adjustments. I'd be more worried about Ojo at this point than Deimon: sure they have Shin and Sakuraba, but without Takami, Ootawara and a good chunk of their defense, a weak class coming in could make them collapse. (though I doubt that) Furthermore, if they did have another season, I'd like to see some new teams rise as threats instead of the ones we saw this time around.
-
While the series could go on past the Christmas bowl, I don't really know if it should. I'm sure this franchise could be stretched out until Sena makes it to the NFL, but without Hiruma, Kurita, and to a lesser extent Musashi it loses some of its flavor. I'd really like to see it end and for the authors to pick up some other project together since this one is a success.

I agree with you. I doubt this will go beyond the Christmas Bowl except for maybe an epilouge chapter. Plus, this will open up the authors for new things, which I would love to see.

Sports manga usually end near THE big game. Rarely will the series continue past the designated goal.

There is an occasional sequel series from a sports manga (look at the Captain Tsubasa line or something more like MAJOR where its the various phases of a character's life for each part), but most of the time that's true.
-
Well–and I haven't read the whole Manga yet--what if Hiruma organized a professional team or do he and the other's all have other careers in mind?
-
I'm up to chapter 134, and I must say, it's getting really awesome (but I think it would take a while before I get up to the most recent chapter

Professional as in how? You mean join the actual NFL? (they probably do have credentials…heck, Sena passed an audition for the San Antonio Armadillos on the Death March and he's much better than that now)
-
Yeah, a NFL team maybe reuniting the original team. But that's just a pipe dream.
-
@Yuugi's:

I really don't see too many of the characters going to the US to play American Football. The only one that probably have a reason to go back is Taki…mostly because he already tried and he's just stupid enough to do it. (if we go outside Deimon, the only other character with US experience is Shun...he could go back to the states and try out for the NFL too) But if they do have an all-Japan team, it better not be some sort of exact Deimon clone...but maybe several Deimon players with some of the better players of the other teams. (but that's mostly a pipe dream and I'm resigned to the fact that the series ends with the Teikoku game)
-
Very nice chapter! Looks like Sena wasn't uninjured from Gaou's blow after all, but, really, it should fall on Hiruma and Kurita for the final points of this game, as they want the C. Bowl more than anyone else. Nevertheless, I am ceetain that this will be Hiruma's final play of the season, it will worsen his injuries and take him out of the C. Bowl (but I suppose I could be wrong, but I don't think so). Sena's injury, whatever it is, looks to be relatively minor, while we know how bad Hiruma is hurt, and this will really exaggerate it.
But, I'm glad to see Kurita finally really get serious, and decide he wants to be the strongest there is, plus I love how Jumonji looks on page 7 (I definitely think he'll be team captain next year).
-
Got both pro and con for this chapter:
-Pro: Sena and Hiruma acknowledge their injuries and are using a feint play to get the two-point conversion, Kurita facing Gaoh head on and Jumonji doing the snap, the scene with the main commisioner.
-Con: Why did they stretch this final, ultimate, be-all and end-all, Christmas Bowl deciding cliffhanger for one more week? They could have ended it here and start the Teikoku hype after getting congratulations from Hakushuu. -
I really feel for Deimon opponents. They have to deal with a bunch of madmen. The play in this chapter was a last minute improvisation but it's not like Hiruma didn't use such things in the past.
-
Chapter's out, and there are only three things to say:
-Go Kurita! He finally beat Gaoh!
-Deimon is finally in the Christmas Bowl! About friggin time!
-That Teikoku man…could it be...and who's the cutie next to him? -
hells yeh, the fucking fatty does it.
after 273 chapters deimon is offically going to the xmas bowl
-
New chapter isn't out yet but somehow there are words coming out about the final episode of the anime…and it isn't pretty.
-
the real eyeshield looks incredibly stupid
-
wtf is that…? cereberus and the pig have babies...? youre sure thats not some kind of dream sequence...? disturbing...
-
Chapter's finally out…apparantly, the character attending the Deimon/Hakushuu game wasn't ES21 but Teikoku's QB (who originally was from Bando) At least he seems interesting compared to the real running back who is...a bishonen.

Wait… How can they end the series if it's in the middle of the final tournament? (I'm not sure where the anime stops, but unless I'm mistaken, I think they at Shinryuugi last I checked.)

The Prince of Tennis Anime ended and the Nationals were told in OVA format.

That really doesn't mean a thing if they don't have the support to get it. Sure I'd love to see the Hakushuu (and eventually the Teikoku) games as OVAs, but if they don't have the fanbase to support it, then that's it, its over. (which is one of the reason I keep wanting the Bleach anime to end: so Kubo can finish his story and the base will be there to get the OVAs made)
-
My question to making continuing stories in OVAs are?
Who wants to wait every few months for the next episode?
-
That's life, sometimes. Doesn't One Piece get only a few episodes a quarter when it's so close to the comic?
-
None of this would happen if these TV companies would wait a lot longer before they put these TV adaptations into production.
-
@Sandai:

Usually the popular shonen magazines wait two to three years before changing a manga series into an anime. This gives them enough material to cover a lot of story in the first year but it all depends on pacing and how long the company expects the anime to last. One example of this was probably Bleach: Pierrot only expected to do from the beginning to the end of Soul Society so they breezed through it…then they saw Aizen's betrayl and their popularity and realized they were too close so they did that Bount arc. (similarly the same thing is happening now with their place in HM but instead of ending it and taking chances with a new anime...they do another filler arc) Its somehow a factor of pacing and popularity that determines whether an anime ends or keeps going. Likewise, its rare that you have a fillerless anime run that does a complete and perfect anime interpretation. (first two that comes to mind for me are "Law of Ueki" and "Yu Yu Hakusho")
From what I've heard, the ES21 anime has had pacing problems its entire run, breezing through a good chunk of manga footage in its first year alone. It was lucky that it did make it to three years...but it does seem extremely incomplete ending with the second Ojo game instead of moving on to Hakushuu and Teikoku. But I guess they really have no incentive: they're too close to the manga, they have no real means to do another filler arc, and the fanbase just isn't there. Hopefully somehow there will be incentive to do OVAs of the Hakushuu and Teikoku games but at this point I think NAS doesn't seem like they want to do it. (compared to bigger and more fanfriendly shonen series like Saint Seiya or Prince of Tennis...personally I rather see a Gash OVA series before ES21)
-
Quite a shocker in this week's chapter (every major Jump series seems to be having them this week). And this one I didn't see coming either…
Teikoku's QB is Karin, the girl Ibarada was with at the game. Sure I'm all for equal rights but if Deimon loses to her then...but then again, with Teikoku's well-known uberness, they probably can experiment with that sort of thing.
-
Ugh I still don't see how a girl can play football with guys like Kurita and Gaoh walking around on the field. This sounds really troublesome. So far the big guns in Teikoku have really been bland.
But I like Teikoku's team name, the Alexanders.

Probably some sort of equal rights thing…they have girls playing football in the US. Besides, Teikoku is probably so confident in their uberness that they take chances like a girl QB.

If Yukimitsu, Kisaragi and Sena somehow survived, why can't she?
-
It's not a big deal if she doesn't get sacked….......(take it however you like it.)
-
@Sandai:

Then again, we really don't have any uber defensive rival for Kurita…but knowing Teikoku, every Deimon character will have a rival in this final game. (which reminds me: it feels weird seeing Gaoh on Deimon's side like many other of their good rivals...)
-
Gao respects people he considers on par with him so much so that he beat the crap out of his own teammate.
