Well, let me answer that by showing you the opening.

I feel sick…. no seriously I felt fine and then I saw this and now I feel sick....
Anyways, back on the One Piece subject.I haven't lost all hope. They've acquired the rights to up to 206 and are planning on getting the rest, and recently required merchandising rights. And the ToonZone thing said it would not return AT THE TIME. Meaning it has a shot at returning in the near future.
-
Wait, what the hell is the worst thing that could happen?
I don't understand why everyone is so freaking ambitious now. Yeah NOW people want to email and write letters where as before everyone told me it was useless and I was getting my hopes up for no reason… and now suddenly it's NOT useless? Whatever.
Quexi, I have to admit, despite your warning, your post has piqued my interest (I've always had a Curiosity killed the cat complex), any experiences you can share here?
… huh?
What would Luffy do right now? He'd just laugh it off and stay optimistic and I have got to say that that is what I am going to do.
I have my pride dammit. Never surrender. Walk smiling into death! WOO!
I used to think like that. I'll be straight up:
It's pointless to think like that. Pointless and sad.WTF?
And why did you get rid of our avatar? It makes you look unimportant an stand out.
Get your avi back, Quex. You're better then that
No.
-
Did that Con start yet? If so did anyone hear anything from Funi?
-
It's been posted all ready, Funi is convinced it's not canceled… it's kinda sad.

That was yesterday right? Nothing new today?

Lol.. why are you being you pessimistic..?
it's OOC for youWhere have the positive attitudes gone, people!? My gosh.. your causing my avatar to melt.. -_-
meeeeeh
-
… huh?
Earlier you said "I got in too deep and I wish I'd never done it" or something along those lines. I was wondering if you could tell us exactly what you got too deep in…
-
People, we're 'Toon Zone', two different words. Thank you and please visit if you're a fan of any non-pornographic animated program.
-
I don't really… want to talk about it now....
Lol.. why are you being you realistic and not the usual zealot who has nothing to rally behind, a radical with no cause, a girl who spent years of her life slaving over a hot keyboard to produce an obnoxious site in order to build up support for opposition against the American handling of a Japanese cartoon…?
it's OOC for youFixed.
-
Well, we got that news from Funi yesterday BEFORE Toonzone's "confirmation" IIRC.
@Lobster:

Heh, glad I'm not the only one stubbornly optimistic. People really need to lighten up. First, we really need more information, preferably from Funi's side of things. Remember when we all freaked out when 4Kids episodes were set to air instead of the new OP episodes.
I still think something has to be up if one side is saying something different than the other side. With the TZ article so vaguely worded, it just seems flimsy to me, like maybe they meant something else and we're simply interpreting it as OH NOES NO ONE PIECE.
I mean a couple months ago there was a HUGE freakout (huger than this) when titles were disappearing from ADVs site. Everyone claimed the sky was falling, ADV has gone bankrupt, ADV is dead etc etc. But a lot of people, including yours truly just waited it out, and it turns out it was just a hitch with a Japanese Investing company and some of their licenses in the process.
Okay, even if I'm wrong. What's the worst possible scenario? Toei takes away Funi's rights to do One Piece. Well for one, they surely wouldn't do it before the first boxset release. And I'm sure Funi'll will be able to get in a few more releases in if they did do that (Which is why it's IMPORTANT we get our copies and spread the word so that as many people get it as possible).
But even then, One Piece will pretty much go back to how it was before Funi picked it up, it'll be everyone's favorite Underdog amongst the hardcore Anime fans of the Western World. It's a shame, believe me, but I just don't see the WORST possible outcome as the end of the world.
-
This all could have been avoided if not for that Tower of Babel incident
le' sigh..
-
.. did you just reference the bible for some reason?
-
I don't really… want to talk about it now....
Fixed.
I think Im beginning to understand now…..judging by how you fixed that quote.
Cain's right people, a lot of (recent) work has gone into OP, that's why I dont believe it'll just be dropped like that. But this is CN, and they are notorious for pulling stunts like this in the past...
-
@Lobster:

!
But seriously, what does that have to do with the current situation?
-
@Tommy:
But seriously, what does that have to do with the current situation?
…
tower of babel.. splitting up.. causing different world languages... causing things to need to be dubbed...
Come on people. It wasn't that deep
honestly

If the DVDs sell well, Toei will have no reason to take the rights away. Which is also why Toei probably need to go on the list of "people to e-mail/send letters to". Basically, let them know there is an audience for One Piece in the US.
I don't think the people on this forum are expecting OP to reach Naruto-like status in the US, which is sad but Naruto has reached such an intense level of popularity it would be hard for ANY anime to get that close to its popularity - the next "Naruto" for the United States is probably not going to be seen for a while.
Basically, we need answers from the Funimation side of this before we really start to panic. Keep a few things in mind:
1. The press release was kind of vague and DOES NOT include the word "cancel".
2. Funimation (according to a few other posts) now has merchandising rights. Buying that kind of stuff will likely help a lot as well. Remember, we're still getting the VIZ volumes.
3. Funimation doesn't seem ready to give up. Also, another post somewhere (I've been posting in so many threads the past couple of days I've lost track) said that Toei and Funi have a good relationship.
4. Case Closed/Detective Conan, another long series, was booted from CN but is still seeing DVD releases, apparently.

1. When Sonic Xtreme was canceled, Sega never said canceled. They said Postponed Indefinately. Just because they didn't use the word doesn't mean it's not canceled.
2. True true… that is very true.
3. But that won't matter because CN gets the final say. CN isn't going to air a show that isn't doing well.
4. Not a Toei license.

1. Even if it is "canceled". shows can definitely get uncanceled due to a variety of factors. Cartoon Network might have also not reached a final decision at this point and they didn't want to commit to either situation.
3. In terms of broadcasting the show.
4. It's still a ray of hope.
-
No. The merchandising rights. FUNi announced they received it around a month ago. In other words, FUNi can now partner with someone to release One Piece products outside the actual series and movies.
they will not sell very well Buuhan , they will not sell very well….......
-
Yeah, Unfortunately CN gets the final say on this.
I can see if the ratings arent doing that well considering OP's past and the fact that they are stuck in the boring part of Skypeia (I know I spelled that wrong), it should be getting to the good part soon.
I still say if we can just make it to the CP9 Saga (from the Davy Back Fight onwards), we'll be in the clear. The ratings are sure to pick up after Lucci and the gang show up.
-
3. That's true.. oh with all things are true
4. I just would like to hear from Toei on the situation I guess.

Dude, you are my freaking hero.
-
It's nice to see you people want to write Cartoon Network to get the show back but here's the thing:
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME
If the One piece community has taught me anything it's that campaigning is useless. You CANNOT make a difference. You will do nothing but waste your time that could be better spent doing so many other things.
Buy the DVDs yes, but don't bother with letters and shit like that. It does nothing and it never will. I won't even discuss the other thought that's going through my mind right now for the risk of receiving more hateful PMs and driving this off topic, but please… don't make the same mistake I did.
I didn't realize how badly I wasted my time until it was too late. I've dug myself in way too deep and I'd hate to see someone else do that. So let's buy those DVDs and hope for an answer from Funimation that's favorable.
That's all.
You speak the truth.
-
all things are true
-
alex: I agree with Buuhan.
KOF: It's true that CN gets the final say. The trick is to get to that point.
Quexi: Yes, hearing from Toei would be interesting. That's one reason I'm suggesting people write to Toei as well.
-
Oh lawd. There are like, two optimistic people here and Quexi turned into a depressing realist. I'm getting off this crazy board. I honestly don't care anymore what we're told, what you guys think, or anything about the matter. I will just wait and see what happens in the long run. But I will concede to this, if you're going to contact CN by any means, then email is the worst way to do it. Emails are cheap, and anyone can send a bunch of em'. Actually handwrite a letter if you have your mind set on trying to convince them.
-
So everyone loses.
Like I've been trying to say.
I admire your pessimistic views….......truly .

Well… This is a dark day for the fandom.
People change.
-
There are like, two optimistic people here and Quexi turned into a depressing realist.
I think I need to find a happy medium here…
:getlost: no that's not it.... :wassat:... not quite to happy.... that's not too bad...
Anyway what do you people want? Back in the 4Kids days... you all said it was useless and pointless to write letters... now all of a sudden it's a great idea. What's the difference now?
-
@alex: You can't state that as fact.
Buuhan is quite right Alex.
If I recall correctly, both Grand Battle and Grand Adventure sold well (despite being almost the same game), and that was back when 4kids had it.
UA didnt have proper advertisement, nor did it even have a lot of copies shipped. Couple that with the fact that it wasnt that great of a game, and you'll see why it didnt do that well, but everyone usually has a flop at least once.
-
I never thought i would say this but I agree with Lobster. I am also an undying Optimist. I really believe One Piece will be back unless Both Funi, Toei, and Cn say it wont be back.
-

Though I don't know if you'll read this, I would not suggest hand-writing a letter - printing it would probably just look more professional if you're going the snail mail route.
-
@alex: You can't state that as fact.
I saw the game sales …...it sorta reflects how ......you know you are depressed already I am not going to make you even more ......... . I will continue to remain very pessimistic .

Alex, have ANY OP games sold well?

I was waiting for this moment.
There's a rather large difference here because the goals of the letter writing are a bit different.
Back in the days when 4Kids had One Piece the anime, the goal was to get One Piece out of 4Kids' hands. Unfortunately I know very little about licensing laws, but I'm guessing this is difficult to do.
This time we're trying to keep it in Funimation's hands. Instead of trying to take something away, we're trying to keep it from going away. The goal is different.
-

and, people should write letters. Anything to help. (I probably phrased this wrong. ><)

That's true. Plus, if you make any mistakes simply hitting backspace is alot better than having eraser marks everywhere.
-
Is it possible it didn't sell well because Wiis are so hard to find?
This time we're trying to keep it in Funimation's hands. Instead of trying to take something away, we're trying to keep it from going away. The goal is different.
Mmm..mnnn..ndndn….. I don't... know
Right now I'd rather find out more info... I really do think that even if it's not on TV, we'll get DVDs
-
Is it possible it didn't sell well because Wiis are so hard to find?
That's probably a huge factor into the sale of almost ANY Wii game. The target market for Wii games is more or less limited to the amount of people who've gotten one. With the PS2 and GameCube releases, a lot of people have one of those systems.
-
Is it possible it didn't sell well because Wiis are so hard to find?
Mmm..mnnn..ndndn….. I don't... know

I doubt it. I mean… Super Smash Bros. Brawl...
-
Alex, have ANY OP games sold well?
Actually no not really …. Roman god posted the game sales for UA ... they were bad ..... also Grand battle was advertised only briefly .... but it still did not sell very well, the sales for the game were passable but not to what 4kids wanted I mean I saw a whole hell of unsold copies while the other anime games sold out (Dragon ball) and kofsoilder the Naruto Ds game was not advertised but it still sold more copies than grand battle and UA.
-
Is it possible it didn't sell well because Wiis are so hard to find?
… I didn't think of that.
Hmm…maybe...? -
I doubt it. I mean… Super Smash Bros. Brawl...
Okay but can we REALLY compare THOSE two? I mean anyone who has a Wii has Smash Brothers Brawl. In order for UA to be brought, you need a Wii AND you need to be an OP fan who's up to date with the Japanese releases.
-
Grand Battle apprantly sold well enough to warrent a us only game.
Though I'm not sure after that…
