Not like it really matters. PK and KotP are the same thing.

@Brad:
Its pretty interesting that the summary says Pirate King instead of King of the Pirates.
That summery also says that it was the devil fruit that gave Luffy the power to become King of the Pirates.
-
Well…he kinda does. Luffy has a damn strong will, but without his devil fruit powers he wouldn't really have gotten anywhere. There's tons of things early on that he would have died from if not for his devil fruit powers.
-
True, but that doesn't mean as much as it sounds like it does.
Luffy dives in front of bullets and blocks cannonballs with his stomach because he can. If he couldn't, then he wouldn't. He'd do something else.
Luffy's powers give him a degree of invulnerability but the fact that he takes advantage of this doesn't mean he would do the same things he does if he didn't have it. His strengths and style of fighting would obviously be very different.
To say that his Devil Fruit ability is what gives him the power to become Pirate King is a disservice to his inherent strength. It may be a factor, but it is by no means a deciding one. All it did was enhance his own pre-existing capabilities.
If Usopp had eaten the Gomu Gomu Fruit instead of Luffy, that wouldn't make Usopp stronger than Luffy or give him the power to become Pirate King. He'd still be Usopp, just stretchier.
-
Luffy was shot in the back by Gaimon when he wasn't looking. If he weren't made of rubber, he'd be dead. Case closed.
-
Without his rubber powers, Luffy couldn't acquire Gear 2nd and 3rd.
-
Its true he couldnt get most of those powers without the Devil fruit. But the devil fruit didnt get Luffy stronger right off the bat. If Luffy got stronger with the devil fruit he would have beaten the bandit that took him away when he was a kid.
Also there wasn't really a guide book on How to be an amazing fighter when your made of rubber. Luffy came up with these abilities and expiremented them. Kuro even said himself that Luffy is strong not just because of his Devil fruit powers.
The Devil Fruit is basically a power and great power needs great training to know what in the world you can use it to your advantage.
-
Either way, though, they do have a point.
If he didn't have those abilities, he would've been shot dead long ago.
Yes, he has been creative in his use of his elasticity, but if he didn't have the innate ability of bullet reflection due to the devil fruit, he would never have gotten anywhere.
Though the same could be said about Robin and Chopper's abilities as well.
-

That's a flawed conclusion. Look at the number of people sailing around the Grand Line that don't have devil fruit abilities. Three of the strongest people in the world have no special abilities.
Luffy doesn't avoid bullets because he doesn't have to. That doesn't mean he wouldn't learn how if he were vulnerable to them. Zoro and Sanji do it just fine and Luffy is stronger than either of them.
-
We then run into a bit of an impasse, because we can't really prove either way how he would've dealt with intense situations if he hadn't grown up vulnerable to just about everything (sans blades).
I mean, he's has these abilities since he was a kid, which has obviously had an effect on him personality-wise (not really taking dangerous situations seriously, etc). Though he was kind of a blunt reckless kid even before the devil fruit consumption.
We'd have to break down his personality and try and figure out how much of his lack of survival skills is due to the gum gum fruit and how much of it is his natural density.
I don't think either one could be proven, since a case could be made either way.
-
Well you'll also need to consider that when he was a kid Garp trained him and Ace. And we learned he needed to survive those trainings. So either way even if he didn't have the devil fruit he'd probably have a different style of fighting and still be strong. As the saying goes the sword does not make a man but the wielder of the sword makes a man, though I know I said it wrong you get what I mean.
-
Ah, that must've been revealed later on in the series, then. I've only seen up to the Skypiea arc, so anything post what's being aired by Funi is Greek to me.
-
One thing to look at is Luffy's physical strength. That didn't come from the devil fruit. He's just a monster. His speed is his own too. Look at his gatling attack. Simply being rubber wouldn't allow him to move like that. Snapping back his arms would be easy enough, but pushing them that far forward at that speed would require incredible effort. Punching that quickly is impressive enough when your arms are only a couple feet long. Luffy covers several times that distance at the same speed.
-
Word has it that summary was just taken from ANN so it is doubtful that it is an official one.
-
For those who dont know, the singer for we are as been revealed and it is Vic Mignogna.
here is the link that proves it:
Go to 3 minute markerI think its awesome that hes the one they picked because i didnt really like jerry jewels
-
Is that for the DVD version? That sucks, because I liked Jerry Jewel singing it.
-
Wow, I loved him singing the theme to DNAngel there. And wow, I never thought he looked like that. Vic must get all the ladies he wants. Also Caitlin Glass is very hot.
-
Yeah, that video pretty much makes me a Mignogna Fan Man now…
-
I'm becoming more a Vic fan, more and more. I agree Caltin is a cutey/hotty in my opinion. ^_^.
-
Anime Boston starts tomorrow and there's supposed to be a Funi panel. Hopefully, we'll get answers.
For, One Piece and all that.
-
I'm betting they don't have a clue about what CN is planning.
That's how unpredictable CN is.
-
@Yuugi's:

Watch those. You'll be more than a fan.
-
Crap like those con videos are exactly why I don't go to cons anymore.
Those attendants are utterly socially inept. I feel sorry for Vic and Caitlin (as well as other voice actors) who have to pander to these spazzes.
:I
-
So, doesn't Funimation's Anime Boston panel start in a little bit? Hopefully we'll get some juicy info on the season sets.
-
It should've started like 43 minutes ago. We'll find out the info pretty soon.
-
From Anime News Network:
And for a one-two-three punch, the first of Funimation's DVD release of the uncut, Japanese-dialogue One Piece is scheduled for that date as well. One Piece, Season 1: First Voyage will be a two-DVD, 13-episode set, and further releases of the pirate adventure series will follow the same pattern of availability as sets only.
-
Sighs Would it have killed them to make it three discs ? :getlost:
-
Tidbits from FUNi's panel:
Nothing we didn't already know. Funi says that they're uncertain about OP on CN and they're pushing hard for it to continue. I'm hoping we get more info. soon
Source (if you wanna see)
EDIT: Wheee~ good news:

^@Chibigoku:
Actually, I found this over at ANN…
Mentioned briefly at the very end: CN is just moving things around their schedule. It's not a formal hiatus or anything.
-
I'm not finding anything on ANN's news posts about that. Was it a forum post or something?
-
Hey, at another forum someone mentioned that Funimation actually played a trailer for the set at their panel.
Can anyone else confirm this?
-
I will only accept a cam rip as confirming. Just hearing they played a trailer wont do us any good.
-

Yeah, it was posted on the forums by a ANN News Reporter.
-
How do I react about this? Is it a good thing or a bad thing??
-
This whole thing is sounding more and more like Yu Yu Hakusho's fate. And that isn't good.
Like this guy points it out…
http://forums.toonzone.net/showpost.php?p=2813590&postcount=862
Sigh… Unsureness... I hate it.
-
I will never watch Toonami again and Cartoon Network will have its very own special hell if that happens. I really hope that doesn't happen though. At the very least Funimation will finish Yuyu Hakusho on their DVDs or Im really wishing for a different channel. (But where in the world will it show)
-
One Piece has a better chance of being dropped by CN all together than it does being put on a death slot. That death slot was to finish that series cause they didn't want it anymore. One Piece however is a loooong series, and still not over. They wouldn't put such a series on a death slot, they'd get rid of it period.
CN wanted One Piece back after FUNi took over cause they were pleased with 4kids ratings, FUNi said the ratings have been even better since they took over…I'm getting a headache.
-
I dont get it! If its good why replace it? Its like you have good milk and you then get sour milk in its place. (Bakugan)

Stop jumping to conclusions. For all we know "One Piece" could just be taking a break.

You do realize that that's the same guy who said that Bleach wasn't violent and that Talho from E7 was a hooker? (xD)
It's hard to take him seriously anymore and it makes it sound like you're just grasping at posts (or straws)

Woah… Hold on a second... I've been playing Brawl for the past week so I havent been around here for a while... Funimation is dubbing One Piece from episode 1? Reruns of the 4Kids dub? Funimation One Piece dub is getting cancelled?!
COULD SOMEBODY PLEASE JUST TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON?!

Actually there aren't gonna be any 4Kids reruns. One Piece has been completely replaced by Bakugan starting tonight. And we don't know if the dub is cancelled. We don't really know anything about what's really happening.

@Tommy:
For the Uncut DVDs, yes.
When, may I ask?
P.S: If Toonami even thinks of taking out the Funi Dub of One Piece, then I'm just gonna blow my top.:pouty:
-
May 27th is the release date of Season One Part One.

Blow your top, then. One Piece went bye bye tonight, Bakugan aired instead.

For now, at least. It's still highly possible that it's just a break, so don't blow your top yet, at least.

Did they say at the panel how long a span there will be between One Piece set releases and if they'll be releasing Jaya/Skypiea DVDs along side the first 143 episodes?

I think I heard at some point (not at the panel) one every three months, but that could be my memory playing tricks on me.
And I highly doubt they'll be releasing their DVD sets out of order.
-
Wow, $50 every three months. That'll be $200 a year, tho places like Wal-Mart will probably sell them for around $30-$35. Which is $120-$140 a year. I gotta get a job.

Become a sign holder. They get paid about 10 bucks an hour, and it's under the table, so you don't have to report it for taxes.
But still, $200 a year. Thankfully, I can just collect my wife's welfare check, and I'm all set.
