We didn't get that 'game' on the page at the end of chapter 154, either. For the most part this was a good volume anyway. Finally at Alabasta…!
New Official Viz Manga Discussion

Just got the volume today, and one thing I noticed is that they changed the "I'm unbreakable" line in the magazine to "It's unbreakable", which I think is good cause I think it makes more sense. And YEAH! Finally at Alabasta!
-
Anyone read Newtype USA? I just got back from Krogers where I bought this months Jump. I saw the Newtype issue with Ichigo on the cover, and I just happened to pick it up and see this:
Anime reviews:
Gurren Laggen
One Piece
other animes I forgotThe thing costs $10 so I wasn't gonna buy it just to read the One Piece part, nor could I open it up at the store cause it was in plastic and didn't want to get shit from anyone (even tho nothing probably would have happened).
So, anyone?
-
Oh yeah I read that. There was an open issue of it at Borders. I actually sort of skimmed through the One Piece movie review, but it looks like it was overall positive. They made note of how One Piece is one of the greatest shonen adventure stories around and even a worthy successor to Dragonball and how it has gotten a regrettable dub over the past few years.
-
Oh, cool. Nice to hear they didn't grant it lower than Naruto.
Anyways, just got a letter from Shonen Jump where I sent in my 24 issue (2 years) subscription for $48. They say my first issue is on the way…so I guess I'm gonna get the same issue I just bought. Damn, I wish it was last month's due to the Luffy cover.
Anyways, before I send the final bill to them I'm gonna draw OP stuff on it and "I demand One Piece! (down with Naruto!)" because I can.
-
Good luck with that.
-
It'll never see the light of day.
-
Fuck, they're gonna look at it either way. 48 fucking dollars there.
-
Isn't that like the third time you've tried doing this?
-

Well, what do you know, they actually DID fix a translation-error! I'm impressed. I don't think they've ever done that before. (Like how in volume 12, Sanji states that "You have to be half-dead to enter the Grand Line", although I believe it was supposed to be "Half of the people who try to go there die on the way.")
So yeah, glad they fixed it. Still a shame that they're releasing everything so ridicculously slowly, though.
-

What? No, don't think so.
I'm not doing it thinking it's gonna do shit, I do it cause I'm bored and I can. I may end up not even sending it in, cause that $48 can buy a POP. Of course, I'm still gonna be buying SJ every month so all in all I'm spending a lot more money in the long run.
-
It's gotta be the second atleast.
-
Do mine eyes decieve me or are viz actually bringing their manga volumes directly to the uk?!?
I bought shaman king 15, one piece 17 and bleach 22 for the normal price of a uk reprint!
No more shitty paper! the proper us covers! no more import tax!
-
How exciting!
16 stuffs

No. Most likely the store you bought them from imported them.

But if thats the case why is there an actual uk price printed next to the usa and canadian prices on the book?
And also when I last was in the perticular shop I was in it was still £8 for vizs manga
-
@Yuugi's:
intresting Manga cover for 18
also, anyone read Ch.1 of Gunblaze?
is it a good manga to read?( i wont be able to get SJ issues for a long time)
-
I've never really liked that cover, but it looks normal I guess. Doesn't look like anything was too altered badly.
As to Kaizokufan… Gun Blaze was sort of a fun read in my opinion... I hope there are battles and actually good designed villains though.
-
Damn.. That cover would look more varied without that shiny title

Hm that's interesting, as far as I knew they were still being published via Gollancz.
-
I read on Amazon that Gollancz should be publishing volume 16 later this year but I have seen the Viz version of #13 in some shops.
Anyway cover looks okay in my opinion.

Gollancz hasn't published volumes 13-15 yet, never mind 16.
-
I know. Like I said, it was some time later this year.
-
It looks like the squished in the image horribly >< God, it looks terrible ><
-
Eh, I suppose it's a fine cover. This isn't really the best cover anyway.
-
@Kitsune::

Eh? it's SMALLER. That's the only difference between the american cover and the japanese one. Well, that and the logos.
-
The heck? I e-mailed Gollancz asking about vol 13's release date and this is the response i got:
We are no longer the publishers of the Manga titles. Rights have been sold to Simon & Schuster. Please contact them for further information. Tel No: 0207 2161900.
Yours sincerely

Sales AdministratorSo now I have no idea what's going on.
EDIT: Found the UK site, they've got vol 13 to 16 listed. Vol 13 was released in January apparently. It also says it was published by VIZ.
-
Final proof that either viz is directly publishing them in the uk or someone else is publishing them for viz
As you can see it has a uk price and also an ISBN number
-
Just checked my import volume 17 and it has that too.
Methinks, now that all Viz’ manga is under one publisher in the UK, they can decide what the price (and materials used) would be rather than Gollancz operating differently in the market.I'm sure everyone in America has that UK price written on theirs.
-

Yup, looks like VIZ are publishing now. Sorry about that, I never knew until a few days ago, I've been waiting for Gollancz to publish vol 13 for months now.

Oh good, Ace is still Ace. That's a relief.
(People in North America probably knew this already, but I'm in Japan right now and don't get US Jump.)
-
Don't worry, Julian-sensei, all is well!
Had you done some research earlier on you'd have been able to learn Ace was retained. By the way, surely you've come across the dub on the net, it's surprising that you don't pop into the talkback threads considering the level of fan-ness you express in the DaizenshuuEX Podcasts.
But I digress…

Has the most recent Jump come out yet?
-
It'd be next week subs should get it, shouldn't it?
-
Oh yeah, probably. Didn't realize it was the middle of the month.
-
Any time in the next week or two.
-
Three Bleach, five Naruto, three One Piece (going all the way through Luffy v. Vivi), two Slam Dunk.
That's all for now, folks.
-
They might as well just take out Slam Dunk and make it four Bleach, five Naruto, and four One Piece. Then they could rename the magazine Monthly Shonen Trinity. Lemme guess, Naruto on the cover?

What a semi-brilliant idea. Of course, I'd prefer it if they took EVERYTHING out of the magazine and just released the graphic-novels faster, but still… (Ideally I'd have them release a new volume every single month until they're completely caught up with the japanese releases, but that's propably never going to happen.)
-
I still hate that they call Zoro Zolo, even though at first he was still called Zoro. :getlost:

Yeah, that sucks. They had no real reason to do that…
-
Sure they do, consistency with the TV dub. People are gonna see the TV dub more than anything, so they might as well be consistent in their eyes. When in truth that's the reason they shouldn't be consistent because only hardcore fans are gonna go for the manga.
Either way, it was probably a legal matter. They were probably forced to keep consistency.

Consistency. Right… of course, they didn't keep consistency with THEMSELVES, and ended up confusing everyone who had been following the manga before the anime was dubbed, but who cares about that?:getlost: Their so-called consistency always fails to make any sense whatsoever. Like how they used "Hercule" in Dragonball, yet they also kept "Kuririn", "Tenshinhan" and tons of other names that FUNi changed in the dub.
-
Viz was actually being a bit more anal about Dragon Ball in general around the time Hercule came up in the manga, I guess that's when the popularity spiked, around when the dub was up to the early Buu Saga.. That's when things like cursing and guns started getting edited out, so it makes sense that that's when they started keeping consistency with FUNimation's names. Though they were smart enough not to with Vegerot. The Zolo thing is still stupid, but it's BEARABLE. It isn't a make-or-break issue for whether or not the Viz manga is worth buying.
-
I'm actually finding myself liking Zolo more because it seems people are set on pronouncing Zoro "Zorro" instead of like Zolo with an R.
-
Ichigo was front and center this issue.
I'm enjoying Slam Dunk. :)
EDIT: Two YYH.
-
To be honest, I've never had a beef with Zolo, due to the whole L/R thing. I just mentally swap it out with Zoro, what I'm used to. Do people really just hate it because Zolo originated with 4kids and the manga adopted it or what?
-

Maybe. Either that, or it's because it sounds so stupid, and it's been clearly proven many times that it's supposed to be "Zoro". (Only spelling of his name that's ever been in the manga, so unlike people like Iceberg, we have ONE single "correct" way to spell his name, which Viz ignored.)
At least I find "Zolo" to be much more bearable than the norwegian version saying "Ruffy" instead of Luffy. Come on, it's the friggin' main character! Is it really that hard to spell his name correctly?
