Nooo.. Sure it would sound strange. But it did in the Japanese version also.
Soooo, there ya' go~

Just because a Japanese voice actor has range to play multiple roles in the Japanese version, doesn't mean an English voice actor can in the English dub.
Should Ryo Horikawa play the majority of the cast of Dragonball Z because Christopher Sabat does? Should whomever be casted as Igaram in the One Piece dub play McKinley, Gorosei, Baskerville, the reporter from Report Time, and the old man with the very bad wound? Maybe Sonny Strait should play Luffy because he plays Krillin, just like Mayumi Tanaka.
The whole point of a voice is not to impersonate the voice actor, but to impersonate the character being played.
Hate to disagree with you, Steve…but he sounded exactly the same as Jango, Bon Kurei, AND Franky. There really was no range. But the point in the Japanese version of that was cause of the pervertedness of the voice.
In English, they're going with the "voice to match the character" route.

Why not, if Bon Kurei and Franky's voices don't sound different? It's not like he's even changing his voice..
That's not the point. They're two totally different characters. One is a cross-dressing homosexual, the other is a energetic cyborg. Despite knowing the voices don't sound that different, they're meant to be.
Hell, when I recognize Kyle Hebert in the dub of Naruto, do I think that character is supposed to sound like Gohan or Kiba?
It was a joke dude, sorry if I offended you.
Forgiven. :) Now, let's get back to more voice guessing…and tea!
Brina Palencia playing young Sanji ftw!!!!
Seriously Lobster, just because they did it in Japan, doesn't mean it has to be done here.
For the record, voice actors do not impersonate, they craft their version of the character from what it is they are told and from the lines they read off.
Someone, anyone, please make a youtube clip of Brook using lines from the ideal Jerry Jewel voice.

Doesn't mean it can't be done here either.

True, I totally agree with you, you were just making it sound like they HAD to do it. It's always fun to speculate on possible VAs based on "related" roles. Hell, I'm already wondering, if maybe since Aisa and Apis are voiced by the same VA in Japanese, if they might not do the same for the English dub. Not like they HAVE to, but I really like Aisa's Dub VA Funi gave her, and wouldn't mind hearing her as Apis.
I think I'd like to see somebody from out of state get the role of Brook, to be honest. But then again, I could easily see the role being grabbed up by pretty much any Texas voice actor.
You want Brook to have an accent.
A 4Kids Robin accent.

(Shudders) don't remind us!
Also, I think that they can have one VA do two voices, but Funimation would have to find people who are good at it, and there are very few who can do it and most use the same voice for every character!
