Yeah I was really disappointed to see that the ripple was just kinda thrown out. but with the enemies no longer being a shit load of vampires, it makes sense why it isn't around anymore, as it wouldn't have really been usable in fights.

@Cap'n:
I hated when Joseph was about to get Dio with the hamon, and Dio just went "YOU STAND FUCKIN SUCKS DIE" and broke out
Yeah, that was pretty fucked up.
And Stands are technically a representation of Hamon [Ripple], so it never really left. You just don't see people who channel it into energy anymore, since yeah, there aren't really any vampires.
-
Yeah, i thought I read that in Wiki somewhere.
I just assumed it was explained like that in later parts, since I didn't see any of that in part 3.
but then I realized it didn't really matter at all.
-
For some reason I was really good with Alessy in the game. Although I never really liked the character or anything. But I just picked him one day because I remember reading that he wasn't any good, but I won pretty much every round with a perfect.
Oh, and every time I read part 3 over again, I am always reminded that Dio can use vines like Hermit Purple. That's just something I always used to forget.
-
Yeah.
I always thought it was on purpose. He has the same stands that the other Joestar's have, and that being the reason they developed stands when he appeared or something like that.(If you count The World to be the same as Star Platinum)
and I think his hermit purple was on the opposite hand if that means anything.
-
Yeah.

Yeah, I always thought that The World was similar to Star Platinum and Hermit Purple because Dio had Jonathan's body. Dio's Stand was pretty much a Joestar Stand I thought.
I just can't recall if it was ever actually stated exactly like that.
But then I always wondered if your Stand is based on your personality or on biological factors. In part 3, the Joestar's have Stands that are either like Star Platinum or plants (Holly had a plant Stand although she couldn't control it).
But then some characters seem like they have Stands and abilities to fit their personalities.
This might have been answered somewhere, but I've never actually read much about Stands other than what's in parts 3 and 4. And I read part 3 a long time ago (I'm currently re-reading the Viz releases though). And with the bad translation for the scanlations of part 4, I couldn't tell much.
-
They never really explain the Hamon/Stand relationship, no.
All we get is Avdol, in the beginning of Part 3, going STANDS ARE MANIFESTATIONS OF HAMON
-
I remember reading that the Stone Mask was just really a mask to activate and give you a vampire stand, so Dio's stand in part 1 would have been a vampire.
Or something…Yeah...Steel Ball Run volume 11 ending I think.
-
@Cyringohn:

I honestly don't think they even go as far as saying that. Avdol just talks about the stands, and never once mentions the ripple.
-
Yeah, didn't read that.
and I was specifically looking for that while reading after seeing it on Wiki
-
I could'a sworn they at least mentioned it in passing, but oh well.
Yeah, you basically just don't know they're connected unless you look it up.
-

Yeah, I think it also said that hamon and the steel ball were ways for ordinary people to imitate stand powers.
-
Which is kind of hilarious if you think about it
ARAKI DESPERATELY ATTEMPTS TO TIE IN STANDS TO EVERYTHING ELSE
-
Something I always found weird was how Polnareff and Kakyoin just shrunk their stands when they went inside Joseph. It just kinda came outta nowhere.
Kakyoin told him to concentrate and said "Stands are just images created by energy", so it seems like any stand user can control the size of their stand. It's kinda weird how no one else has attempted to do it.
-
Yeah, even if it is in volume 11, I really don't buy his whole "the mask just happens to bring about a Stand which, well, you know, just makes you a vampire. Yeeeeeah." I just blame him not being sure of whether to tie in Steel Ball Run with the rest of Jojo, and now trying to get Steel Ball Run-only fans caught up with everything prior.
-
I think that that comment came out around the same time of the 20th anniversary event, so he may have just been trying to get people interested in Phantom Blood again.
-
Yeah it kind of contradicts the whole function of the Stone Masks
-
It would've been simpler if he'd tied the meteor that originated the stands with the stone mask guys. Like maybe the masks were made from whatever material came from the meteor.
-
I thought it was that
Stone Masks and Hamon were 2 sides of the same coin (thats the description in Part 1)
and then Stands are manifested spiritual energy..well whatever
-
Surely I can't be the only one whose favourite character was Iggy? I thought Petshop and Vanilla Ice were the best battles in Part 3.
His disgusting treatment in the OVA was uncalled for.
Edit: I overlooked the whole "manifestations of Hamon" thing when I first read it, I thought they were just psychic extensions of a person. Even now, I try to forget that Abdul ever said that, it just brings up too many needless questions.
-
His disgusting treatment in the OVA was uncalled for.
Yeah I liked Iggy too.
and really laughed out loud at how he was portrayed in the OVA.(lacking the human like characteristics he was given in the manga) Especially the way he died.
When Polnareff picked up the half of him that was left going "IGGY!?", I couldn't help but laugh.
But overall I think Abdul got the shaft the most in the manga and OVA
-
Well, he was supposed to fucking die, which is why he didn't really do shit after he came back.
-
When Polnareff picked up the half of him that was left going "IGGY!?", I couldn't help but laugh.
Ah man, his death in the manga seriously touched me. I don't think I felt that way in Jojo again until Abbachio. It was this frame that really got me:
!
But this was just a kick in the balls of all Iggy fans.!
But admittedly, I did laugh when Ice stepped on him. -
Hey guys, you know where I can find Phantom Blood OVA to dowlonad? (if it is not against the forums' rules)
And an animation of Battle Tendency is being planned as you know (please, say yes. My favourite arc)???
-
@Cyringohn:
Well, he was supposed to fucking die, which is why he didn't really do shit after he came back.
His earlier death was bullshit too though.
and to the above guy, I don't think the Phantom Blood movie is out on DVD yet(so no subs) and haven't heard anything on a battle tendency animation.
-
I thought Abdul's second death. I actually always felt that the reason Arikawa brought him back was to give a worthy send-off.
But yea, it just feels a lot sillier after the cop out of the first death.
-
His first death was pretty anti-climatic, but I'm sure many thought so too. This isn't helped by the fact that Hol Horse becomes more of a comedy character after the whole Hanged Man thing. Araki should've just kept him dead.
I thought Ice killing him was way too sudden and that he just got sent to some other dimension (albeit limbless) within Cream. After finding out that Ice just eliminates, I was a little disappointed but also unsurprised.
After Part 2, I was prepared to know that many characters will die in Jojo when it comes to the end of a Part– surprisingly, Part 4 didn't follow this dumb trend, which was pretty cool.
-
Well, there was Fatty.
lol
-
He was awesome. I hated that he died. One of my favorite stands too.
-
Honestly, I liked him too.
It just felt odd that Araki killed him off so soon, before he really started hanging out with Josuke and co.
-
Death makes for good drama. Quit whining, you pussies.
-

Speaking of death, can anyone explain the whole Bucciarati thing to me? You know, about his prolonged life thing… I never understood it.
Also, I know you cried for Fatty deep inside too. :(
-
Aww gee, thx for the spoilers guys
and yea, my biggest problem with both of Abdul's deaths was how sudden they were. Especially compared to Iggy and Kakyoin, who both went out dramatically and without any doubt.
Both times Abdul died, I thought, "…....did he just die?" while reading.
and he died the same way both times (Pushing Polnareff out of the way)
-
One thing i really enjoyed that Araki has done is that he doesn't really have his characters tell their abilities to their opponents.
That and how he avoided having some deep friendship with your stands. "Their more then just stands!!" kind of thing. (Except for a few stands.)
They just help you beat the **** out of ur opponent for the most part.
Finished part 2 finally and found out Joseph was my 2nd fav. Jojo.
Now off to finish the rest of part 5.
Sex Pistols is a cool stand.
-
@DougyDougyGiro!*:
Sex Pistols is a cool stand.
Despite having no specific abilities.
-
@Freeman-12:
Despite having no specific abilities.
It's a remote, long-distance, self-concious stand with six seperate minds.
I won't go into their precision and strength for being able to guide bullets because we're dealing with manga physics, but yeah, I think that's a pretty cool ability.
Harvest is probably better.
-
What? Sex Pistols had much more ability than Emperor.
Saying that it had no specific ability makes no sense
-
Emperor fucking sucked compared to Sex Pistols.
Mista was one of my favorites from Part V.
-
Where the hell is the new SBR?
-
I saw the original OVA series of part 3 first (back in 1999 or 2000 I think) and I actually thought Iggy's death was quite sad.
-
Hmm…while waiting for the next Steel Ball Run volume to be released, I have a question.
Where could I find some really nice Jojo figures to purchase? I'm searching mostly for Kakyoin and Ceaser. o_o;
Thanks. =O
-Zera
-
i always thought Narancia's death sucked. He was my favorite in part 5, and they just randomly kill him off, out of nowhere!

Jojo merchandise is.. rare. Best (only?) Kakyoin I can think of is the one in the Static and Dynamic collection, and those are hard to come by. For Caesar, I'm pretty sure there's a set of capsules for Part 2.. but not much past that.
-
@Cap'n:
What? Sex Pistols had much more ability than Emperor.

Well when you come down to it, S. Pistols is just 6 small imps or whatever that have err….super imp or whatever strength and and precision?
-
Thing is, Sex Pistols can actually run about and such and be helpful. Like in the train sequence where Bucciarati unzips himself. Whereas Emperor can't.
-
Part V's ending was meh. I didn't really mind Bruno being a zombie or w.e
Is it bad to find the ch. with Mista and the rolling stone better then the fight with Giorno and Diavolo*? So is Giorno the strongest stand user so far or what??
I didn't really like how Araki didn't have Fugo just never come back. Waste of a stand, it had a cool design.
-
Any of you guys know where to get scans of the Jojo artbooks?
-
one of the artbooks is too big to fit in scanners so…..yeah
-
Any of you guys checked out the new SBR yet? Real freaky stuff.
-
What happened, is that weird stand going berserk with it's powers or something??
It's ability was quite freaky from what I remember.
