Bon Kurei wasn't ever "confirmed gay". He blew a kiss a Vivi. He's only a confirmed transvestite.
And there is no way Viz will say Okama, or "Way of the Crossdresser" like Funi. They will probably just pull that "Crazy Karate" 4Kids mess on us.

Probably really, why can't the soccer moms blame themselves for the accidentsthey do on their children i mean doesn't anyone read ratings anymore. We'd have okama if it wasn't for their ilk
Somehow all I can see is a rhyme of "Way of the Gay" for Bon Kurei, but somehow they are probably going to mute that over at Viz. He's not that much of a problem but with matters regarding that sort of thing always going to make them squeamish…I mean its not like he's a crossdresser like I know Viz had dealt with before.
If only square enix would bring over the Higurashi manga then. Heck they own the rights to that too after all…
but ah well I don't mind FMA staying out of the magazine. I just wish they wouldn't have bothered putting Bleach in. I mean after all the actual story runs slow enough without Viz dragging it out.
First of all, FMA is impossible to BE in the magazine :getlost:
Second, Or, why don't they just stop trying to be like japan and get RID of the magazine, then give all series every month or every other monthreleases until they catch up to the japanese releases, then stay just 1 release behind. (Like, Japan get's 49, and in that same month we get 48.
Um no, I LIKE the magazine. :getlost:

I wouldn't mind them just ditching the magazine and releasing the graphic novels. In my view the magazine is a waste anyways especially if you're only buying it for one or two series. After all with all the work they put into the magazine they could be releasing the graphic novels faster.

Exactly what I was saying ^^
Agreed. Looking at all my Shounen Jump sitting around my room from the first three years … just ... just sitting there. It just turned into a big waste really.

I actually have to wonder how many people actually buy the magazine to read Hikaru no GO! I know some people may actually like it (though I really don't know WHY they would like it) but they really could put something better than that at least in the magazine.
It is sorta ridiculous how long Viz plans on stretching out a 23 volume series. Volume 12 is barely coming out in May 2008
Hummm…. this whole "content" issue with VIZ is beginning to bug me.
Language, nudity, sex, etc. are all handled differently for seperate branches of the VIZ lineup, I'm sure you all knew that. The SHONEN JUMP line recieves far more censorship and edits (Chocolove's lips in SHAMAN KING, underage smoking in DR. SLUMP) when compared to their practically untouched ADVANCED line.
However, in the regular VIZ MEDIA line, which has nothing to do with Shonen Jump at all, I've seen the regular use of the word "fuck" (FLAME OF RECCA) and just recently saw an exposed breast complete with nipple action (YAKITATE!! JAPAN). What's my point? I'm trying to say that giving so many different series the same age rating, and yet handling them completely different from one another should not be allowed. I'd love to see some stronger language and less unecessary edits in all the Teen-Older Teen manga that I read, but it seems that there are too many complications within all the different VIZ licenses.
Instead of the magazine being full of series that will take forever to finish. The magazine should just have series that are extremely short. Like Zombie Powder for instance
You know series that are about maybe 10 to 15 volumes at the most.
Nah, they'd rather have continuously running series like Naruto and Bleach which automatically garner sales. Why all the other series are tacked on is beyond me. Probably just taking up space to make the magazine look big.
Now hey, I love the magizine the way it is! I've got every issue and it's nice having so many titles for so cheap. Bleach needed to be placed into the magizine because when they caught up with Japan those that read the magizine may not to completely caught up. Not to mention this way I will not have to read the GNs in the store anymore.

I completely agree. Despite a local comic book shop stocking them nine times out of ten I find it a huge waste of money to buy them when I prefer to get the volumes. I love having them lined up in my book shelf. Like others, I wish Viz would either drop the magazine entirely or at least drop some of the less popular series that we like so they can have a swifter release and continue to have Bleach and Naruto hog the spot light.

I guess really because Naruto, Bleach and Shaman King are household names while Flame of Recca and Hunter x Hunter are under hyped and therefore over looked series. The chances of seeing little Timmy read HxH over Naruto are minimal to none (though he'd be making a better choice IMO).
I don't mind some NECESSARY edits, but I feel Viz takes it to far at times.
It's still kind of hard for me to wake up into reality and realize that we've reached a time in which manga is edited. Oh cruel world…

I just don't see the point. Why drag out long running series instead of catching up and THEN keeping up with the Japanese releases? Seems more practical to me. Besides if the magazine was strictly series that weren't that long they could finish series a lot faster and bring new series into the magazine.

I keep mine in plastic packing containers until I can actually get a bookshelf big enough for my whole collection, but yeah I totally agree with you. Also you have a point. Since SJ basically wants Naruto and Bleach to hog the spotlight they should just cut everything else out and give all those other series faster releases. It's not fair to the fans of the non-Naruto and Bleach series that they have to wait longer because Viz is too busy sucking Naruto and Ichigo's dicks like the corporate whore they are.

Exactly! Maybe it's just me, but I'd try and get as close to the Japanese version. Sure some could argue that they may lose money speeding the series up (I fail to see how but you never know).

Wait - there are people in the West who AREN'T purely reading American Shonen Jump for Naruto and Bleach?!
(that probably sounded better in my head)

Exactly my point. Besides it'll take them several years to catch up anyways if they go to bi monthly releases for series like One Piece and all. So honestly I don't see why they can't just take at least One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho out and give them faster releases.

Oh heavens no. Even the concept of that is impossible to imagine.
Aethos… Yuyu isn't going to be taken out because it only have like 50 or so more chapters left.

and gets one chapter a month at the most. Why not just take it out and just finish it off? Better than taking forever to finish it in the magazine. It was annoying when they did that with Yugioh. If I was reading YYH consistantly I'd be annoyed as heck with how the magazine is dragging out the releases.

What they did to Chocolove pissed me off so much. It's racism the way THEY'RE handling it. They made it worse!
Also, I don't know what the point of having regular Jump and Advanced Jump is. They just decided to throw random manga into two different sets. Doesn't make any sense to me. I don't see any different treatment between advanced and regular, so I don't know what the big deal is.
Jesus christ, Viz needs to realize that Teen/Older Teen ratings should be uncensored. I mean, I'd realize hardcore sex would be edited, but swearing edits and traits that black people have are just too much…

Exactly. Bar the small edits and changes I generally enjoy the English translation of One Piece, and would like to catch up as quickly as possible. At the rate they're going now I'll be in my mid thirties before they've finished Eneis Lobby, by which point in my life I hope to have other priorities (though I hope I'm still at least interested in anime and manga). I'd rather see One Piece get closer to the Japanese version now while I'm still young(ish).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't YYH have a limited time in the spotlight before being brushed a side, much like Shaman King? Am I correct in thinking it's 15 minutes of fame ended quite a while back? If so, what is the point in dragging on a series that frankly only the hardcore fans (or Brits like myself who are interested who never got to see the series on UK TV) care for?

Actually 2, so that gives it another 2 years. So no, not one chapter at the most. In fact, its only had one chapter ONCE.

early thirties for me… but yeah I know what you mean. I just find it hypocritical that they want to catch up with Naruto, slow Bleach down because they've caught up too much, and yet they do nothing for One Piece and their other series, but let them sit and drag on in the magazine.

I don't remember either shaman king or YYH getting time in the spotlight to be honest. Always seemed like it was reserved for DBZ and Yugioh… and now Naruto and Bleach. Still I agree with you on that. I mean honestly I got pissed off when Viz decided to drag out the last two volumes of Yugioh Millenium world in their stupid magazine. If I read YYH and could only get maybe one or two volumes a year. I'd be freakin' pissed.
Actually 2, so that gives it another 2 years. So no, not one chapter at the most. In fact, its only had one chapter ONCE.
That doesn't exactly imean it's not being dragged longer than it should be though.
OK, finally got to look at the latest issue (January) and here are a few personal comments:
-Deidara kept "Art is a bang!"…which is good due to his connection to that strange Japanese artist the line comes from.
-It looks like the magazine is staying one Bo-bobo chapter a month...particularly since the preview for next time only mentions Denbo's first appearance and not "One Song Museum".
-YYH got two chapters...well, at least its still in there.
-As for the series we all read...just looked it over, mostly Chopper joining the crew. And from the preview, there may be three chapters since it mentions what sounds like the first SH encounter with Bon Kurei. (so that means that we're getting the departure from Drum, Crocodile's first real move, and the SH meeting that okama guy)
So we know how Viz edited drunken fist in the dub with sake becoming elixir and drunken fist becoming loopy fist so I guess Naruto doesn't get as much freedom as we thought.

I was referring more to the anime because I was under the impression YYH had some popularity. Perhaps I was wrong. I've always assumed Viz included the Shaman King and YYH manga in ASJ because their animes had some interest at the time the magazine first popped up, but I could be wrong.

That pissed me off…
Anyone know if they kept drunken fist in the Viz manga?

What did you expect? You cannot have a 14 year old gettin' drunk TV. At least it'll be on the DVD sets.

Ok, but he can't do it in a comic book RATED Older Teen???
It doesn't matter with the broadcast, really. If Bon Clay is edited, I'm so out of buying Viz's shitty publication.
Naruto's Manga is rated T, not T+.
@Yuugi's:

Still, even then….
I do believe that Viz wants places like Target and Wal-Mart to stock their JUMP titles so they go through and edit stuff like that out so that they can have a wider-spread release.
@Kitsune::

It's still showing an under aged kid getting drunk in media that people automatically assume is for children. Therefore they can not show a 13 year old getting drunk.
And with that in mind, they may also change Bon Clay's sexuality even though numerous American comic book characters are gay.
All they are doing is trying to shield children from reality. Honestly, who hasn't gotten drunk by age 14?
@Gon:

Me. I'm turning 16 in less than a month, and I've never gotten drunk.
But yeah, censoring people getting drunk seems stupid to me. As does editing of any other drugs, and most of all, BLACK PEOPLE'S LIPS. Seriously, what's worse: a stereotypical black guy, or censoring said stereotypical black guy just for being a stereotype?
@Kitsune::

Are you fucking kidding me? They seriously have that in there?
There's no reason for that to be edited. I understand the Toonami edit because it is on TV, but we're BUYING these books on the side. I buy them and expect full quality.
All they are doing is trying to shield children from reality. Honestly, who hasn't gotten drunk by age 14?
I hadn't even tried beer untill legal age (tasted a few drops of champagne with my parents one time on newyears eve though.) I still haven't been drunk to the point of getting a hangover.
I just dont like drinking for some reason it seems more like a chore then something you do for fun.
@Gon:
All they are doing is trying to shield children from reality. Honestly, who hasn't gotten drunk by age 14?
Uuuh…me? I'm 17 and I've never consumed alcohol, smoked, or done drugs. Something I'm amazingly proud of. I grew up in a house hold where I saw first hand what things do to people. Don't get me wrong, I'll probably consume alcohol in the future. Definitely for special occasions. But not before I turn 21.
whooo~! me too, in all my loser-esque glory. 17 and a half, never drank or drugs or nothing. tho no sex is taking it's toll on my frail body.
Considering what happened with drunk Lee, something tells me they just call Bon Kurei a 'crazy crossdresser' and hint that he's gay without explicitly saying it. Heck, they could even keep "okama way" without saying what "okama" means…that could work.
@Tokoro:

I wouldn't mind that either, Okama Way even sounds better than Gay Way, Gay Way sounds like a line from Meterosexual Dr. Suess…...
And on another note...Points to self 18 and have only tried a sip of alcohol simply to sample the taste, and it was my dad who let me sample it, AND i'm FUCKING IRISH!
I wish it was "dizzy rumble"
