Damn, so awesome… Nightmare Luffy rulezz...
Chapter 478 "Luffy vs. Luffy" Discussion
-
-
Zoro's attack… Yata-Garasu.
Not sure if someone posted this, but in Japanese Shinto mythology, Yatagarasu was a three-legged crow that served as the messenger for the Sun goddess, Amaterasu.
But meh, you all probably know that already.
Anyway, thanks for the scan! -
It seems that Odz will be down before Luffy returns to his usual state.
Poor Moria, he could receive the beating of his life at the hands of Nightmare Luffy.
-
I don't think Moria will be too hurt when Odz goes down…. it would be normal Luffy vs Moria......... because the 10 minute time limit would have been up....
-
I was hoping for a little more fight between Luffy and Odz in this Chapter…
Oh well, thanks anyway =] -
AMAZING
Odz got totally OWNED.
But I just can't seem to shake off the feeling that Moria got something else up his sleeve.. I doubt Oda would let a shichibukai go down so easily.
-
I think it will take a little longer to defeat Odz then just one chapter. Remember that Luffy always comes back after being squashed by superior adversaries. And having Luffy´s shadow, Odz should now do the same. Also it would be a waste of potential to see Nightmare Luffy just in one chapter because he most likely will take on Moria as his normal self again so the techniques NL can come up with should be foces on a while (as annoying it might seem).
-
is it me or does nightmare luffy have gils?
-

It's just you.
I wonder how NL's going to beat Odz? Seeing as the salt is all gone, he'll have to tear the monster limb from limb.
Or he could just chuck Odz into the sea, thus dooming Moria as well. But Moria could always escape with Doppelman's help, I suppose. -
Can't Luffy just knock Oz unconscious and get his shadow out by forcing Moria to release all the shadows? And the salt's on the ground, so he could always be all bad-ass and make Oz lick the ground.
And Doppelman's in Oz right now, kinda, so if he were submerged as you said, then Moria couldn't really make the switch, no. Besides, if Moria dies, then I don't think the shadows go back.
-
Nami making a Tsunami would work. Salt water = Salt; Moria would have a tough time guarding against a mouthful of Salt Water.
-

Doppelman can fly, dude. And you can't knock a zombie unconscious. Remember Taleran?
-
Hmmm, can anyone else see, Moria trying to pull the shadows our from Luffy but in turn backfires because all the shadows are angry or something like that. It's just a feeling though…^_^
-
@IT'S:

If zombies can't go unconscious, then what happened to Penganji and Jigouroh when they jumped off the building? They got knocked out.
-
I re-read the chapter, and it doesn't say they were knocked out…
-
It's a lion's sig is as one sided as luffy vs oz. haha.
-
After reading the translation I have to say Moria is a ruthless as hell. He is avoiding all the cliche villain mistakes by pointing out that the SHs are still breathing and telling Odz to pound on their bodies until they're unrecognizeable, but still.. man that's cold.
-
The things I dislike about this chapter…...1.The amazing character development, Luffy just saved everyone, that is all.

Joke villain indeed.

Well he technically saved only saved Nami and Usopp. But yeah, in some ways this entire arc is kind of stupid when it comes to characterization. But whatever, I'm still reading.

Well, atleast I was expecting the crew to at least beat Odr or remove that arm of his. Other then that massive let down, this is one of my fav Arcs.
-
I actually agree about their efforts being nearly fruitless up to this point. It seems redundant that all they did was nothing but tell us he got frost bite and got beat down. But to me the arc is full of stuff that either works exceptionally well or doesn't.
-

It's too early to tell whether or not the SHs efforts were worth anything yet. What would you say if, in the next chatper, Odz's arm just fell off from the stress of stretching?
-

That won't happen, he stretched the arm the SH attacked & it didn't fall off, Luffy is here to save the day.
Also even if his arm came off, what good will it do Nightmare Luffy? This chapter proved that Nightmare Luffy is levels above Odr. -

Also even if his arm came off, what good will it do Nightmare Luffy? This chapter proved that Nightmare Luffy is levels above Odr.Sure it can. That stretching could do damage over time, since Odz is flesh and not rubber after all. It's like a repeated motion injury, Odz's idea that attacking the some spot over and over won't work is just overconfidence. Even if that doesn't happen, the point is that damage can add up to something. I don't think the SHs efforts and that point that "Odz's arm is his weakness" will end up being nothing.
Also, it's a little premature to act like Odz is beaten already. First off, zombies can take damage and keep coming back, until they're purified with salt. Second, Moria is still there. Luffy's impressive but, with a ten minutes time limit, it's very possible that Odz could take Luffy's damage until the time limit's up.
-
@raj:
Joke villain indeed.
I could never understand that claim. If you don't like him because he's fat and non-bishounen or whatever, then fine, but a joke villain he is not by any stretch of the imagination.
The only Straw Hats that really got good, solid character focus this arc so far are Chopper and Usopp. A little bit of Zoro too, I guess. (Oh, and Brook.) Thriller Bark isn't perfect, but action-wise it's kept me on my toes. No complaints there.
And we still don't know just how Odz is going to go down just yet. The frostbitten weak point may still play a vital role.
-
I don't see what even the weak point would do. Would he just not have one arm? I don't see that slowing Oz down a whole lot, since he's used one arm, his ass, and his legs to beat most of the SHs so far.
And do they really need to slow Oz down now? I mean, Luffy can beat the shit out of him now, so Oz shouldn't be a problem now. Moria is what needs focusing on, and making him give up all the shadows.
Oh, and just thought of this, Luffy seemed to get to them pretty fast, right? So, is it possible that Luffy's shadows made him faster and smarter too?
-

Well with out them beating Odr or removing his arm before Luffy save day is a let down, also it don't look like Luffy is going to attack his arm. Heck Luffy was not even thier to hear that plan to attack Odr arm.

By the looks of it Odr will fall by Luffy's hands, not the crew. Thats a big let down, a real big one.
At this point it don't look like Luffy needs that arm gone anyway. -

Chopper did say that if he lost the use of it, his power would be cut in half.
I really hope we're going to see a bit of a personality war next chapter. Luffy doing and saying decidedly un-Luffyish things etc.
Then Usopp and Nami can provide hilarious commentary from the peanut gallery.
-
Well, I doubt even Geared-Up Luffy could take on Odz, so him getting power from one hundred shadows is better than the SH sunndely surpassing the power of their power-ups out from nowhere…
-
The scene with Usopp thinking he purified Odz, but it really being Doppelman and it throwing the bag of salt into Usopp's damn face was awesome. I actually laughed out loud.
-
I was saddened by that scene, because it meant that Brook failed to help the situation very much, except for sacrificing himself to become an arrow of lightning, but that didn't seem to do very much either.
And with Moria using Oz so much in his fight, I can only wonder how he fought before.
-
Yeah the whole point was that everyone was pretty much useless against Odz
-
Sigh, teamwork and character development is so overrated.
-

I wouldn't get depressed, emo, mad, etc, until we see the outcome. The rest of the SHs could get up again or something. And, like dozens of people have said, this doesn't really make the crew look bad or something. Luffy got a one time, situational power up.

Yea, being useless really doesn't make you look bad, Zoro's speech/Plan, Chooper's Plan & all that trash talking really did something. We shall see.
-

See, my problem with you is that you're talking in the past tense, like something crappy has already happened.
It hasn't, it looks like that might happen, but it hasn't yet. Hence the "we shall see" I guess, but I'm pretty certain the odds are in favor of all that stuff being worht something. In the next few chapters we could easily see the worth of the SHs efforts, and I don't think Luffy will own Odz so easier. I mean, c'mon, even with all that power, Moria's tricky as hell, and Odz can't be beaten with punches or without salt. It's not so black and white, a lot of things can still happen. Oda wouldn't spend 8 or 9 pages on Odz's arm unless it was going somewhere.

Well, it seems that Moria could know where Luffy has gotten that power up from or how he did it, & didn't Ryuuma get beaten by Zoro without salt? But don't get me wrong, I hope your right about this.
But We Shall See.
-
anyone think the Nightmare Luffy thing is going to be used to spoof and "sample" different tradeamark moves from OTHER Shounen Jump protagonist?! I kinda thought we might see Luffy doing a Kininku Buster after the way he suplexed Odz. And with that sword maybe Oda-sensei will pay homage to his old boss Watanabe-sensei and have Luffy borrow a move or two from Kenshin?
-

I love when people try to speak in Japanese terms and then fuck up and fall flat on their faces
-
:wassat:Use of "Sensei" seems accurate to me.
-
I meant more from the fact that "Watanabe" didn't write Kenshin
-
@Cap'n:

I also don't understand why people like to use Japanese terms like that. I mean, there's no point in doing so….
Anyways, I think that Brooke's thunder move was actually a tribute to the Dragon Quest Manga that was running around the same time of Dragon Ball, so Oda pulling off more tributes with Nightmare Luffy doesn't sound ridiculous at all.
-
It's sad they're trashing all the surrounding buildings. The Ship looked so nice with everything still intact.
-
One thing that sticks out to me in this chapter is Usopp after getting the salt thrown in his face. He was actually getting mad at Moria, with no sign of fear in sight. It almost looked like he would have talked back to him, before getting stomped.
So, I guess, more Usopp developments. Shame they might end up being the commentators for Odz vs. Nightmare Luffy (I'd hope they do more though).

Ah, ok. In that case I withdraw my comment.@onemoment:

Our boy is growing up. At the very least, I could see Usopp and Nami collecting the bodies of their knocked out crewmates. Things should be safe for that since Luffy sent Odz a pretty good distance away. Also a possible opportunity for Nami to get updated on what happened while she was off getting almost-hitched to the elephant-and-everything-else man then letting him get stolen away by a warthog during their non-honeymoon.
-

You know I don't think Oda calls that "character development," maybe he is just wrting a story and Ussop happens to be in it.
-
Hm, could it be that Nightmare Luffy will make Moria do something foolish? Like ordering all the shadows (inside Luffy) to return to their owners, but in the end ALL the shadows on Thriller Bark follow that command? Just thinking out loud.
-

That'd be cool, but then we wouldn't be able to see Monster Luffy kick Moria's butt. So unless they make it happen after Luffy gives Moria a good beating, then that'll be no fun. Moria is one annoying SOB and just like Spandam in Enies Lobby, I am looking forward to Moria taking a severe beating.
-
I was kinda thinking the same thing, Ivotas. He seemed to have figured something out.
But then, i was thinking that Moria is the smart sort, so he'd phrase his words properly (unlike dimwit "genius" fosfos guy)
EDIT: I was re-reading the chapter and i just realised that Odz used his weak arm (the right side arm) to rifle punch Luffy. Maybe it was due to the group's continual attack on it that caused the punch to be weakened? That means we may potentially be seeing an even "Luffy Vs Odz" fight in the next chapter, with Odz using his left arm to attack instead..
If you think about it, the chapter was pretty short and didn't include much screen time of the fight between Luffy and Odz, so the battle may not be effectively over yet. Wonder if anyone else noticed.
-
If Luffy just punches Oz's bad arm and makes it explode or something next chapter, that would be one of the most bad-ass things in OP…ever.
And I sorta agree with the plan against Moria, but it's not like Moria's a genius. He can get tricked, especially if it would be to save his ass.
