Halos
any pokeymans after Gold and Silver
most video games on systems newer than SNES or 64
How can you hate Diamond/Pearl
I'll beat you up
I can't stand Halo. Crash Bandicoot is an abomination. Games like Dance Dance Revolutiona and Guitar Hero suck.

You do realize that Max Payne came out quite a few years back, right? Obviously the visuals aren't going to look appealing compared to stuff now.
Crash Bandicoot is an abomination.
Anything after Crash Bandicoot (first game) is awful. But then again, no one really likes Crash.

Hey I understand Ruby and Sapphire, but Diamond and Pearl are good. You don't have to deal with any link cable crap to play others, although wifi is full of people who hacked their teams. :(
That reminds me though, I didn't really like Gold and Silver while it's regarded as "tha best" generation. All it did was bring the "stallfest" teams out.

Why would I compare it to things a platform higher up from it
I distinctly remember it looking like ass when it first came out
It looked fine on my PC. I loved the film noir style, I wish there would be more games which would use similar ways of story telling. And back then bullet time was something really fresh and new and… wait, why I'm bothering to defend it? People hate Halo in pretty every single post and I don't care. Max Payne is shit. I hope Max Payne 3 will come true someday. But Alan Wake will do.

That looks pretty cool. I shall keep an eye on it. Although Max Paynes were more like Sin City novels.
Only problem is that it won't be around until sometime 2009.

This is why when someone I don't really know asks me for my Friend Code, I ask them what the first word of FC means.
Yeah I stopped receiving codes from random people since most end up putting 255 in everything. I mean do you really expect me to believe you have a whole team of shiny ones that have IVs in their high 20s?
I only have around 7 friend codes and they're all people from this forum.
Ha, yes. I see that all the time with people basically having 255 EVs in everything, 31 IVs, shiny and everything else. Gotta love the people who throw Wonder Guard on everything but Shedinja, too.
Also, I wouldn't call it hate, but I didn't really find Gold/Silver/Crystal to be as great as everyone said. Brought some good Pokemon, sure. But the challenge wasn't as great as Red/Blue/Yellow. Hell, the Elite Four started off at having Pokemon in the level 40s. Not to mention, Kanto was boring as hell with everything being gone or closed off. No Safari Zone? WUT?
Another series I just remembered that's already been said in this thread. Metroid.
It's not so much I hate the series. In fact, I love the idea of a huge 2D side-scrolling platformer/shooter. It's just none of the games have been able to hold my interest for very long.

Well, the bullet time thing would've been cool except:
it wasn't already so overplayed by The Matrix
To me, it felt very out of place. It felt like it was tacked on to make people care about the game.
And I agree about film noir style; I'd really recommend Hotel Dusk for DS if you haven't played it yet.
Noir style games tend to draw the audience into the story more. Or maybe Noir makes it seem like the game has a deeper story, I dunno. It's a good angle to aim for though.
@Cap'n:
- it wasn't already so overplayed by The Matrix
Max Payne was out long before any of the two sequels came out and quite some time after the first movie. o_o In fact, it was mostly overdone by the time the second and third movies came out.

What about Hardboiled & Face-Off?

Try playing the first Dead To Rights game (if you haven't already)
To jump on the Bandwagon a bit with Taboo all Pokemon games that came
after Ruby,Sapphire, & Emerald (though there's a bit off irony in this.)
and thePhoenix Wright games but only because the amercanizing and
the sometimes cheesy dialouge that capcom put in the game.
Honestly, I find the Phoenix Wright games to be an example of good localization.
I mean, God forbid the games ever become a Milk-chan like debacle.
FF7 was a letdown not because it was bad, but because it was busted.
It crashed far too often on every incarnation of my PC I tried it on.
Maybe the PS1 version was better, but I didn't get the PS1 version.
Yeah, should've played the PS1 version.
For the longest time I never even knew there was a PC version of the game.

The PS1 version didn't suffer from any arbitrary crashes that I know of.
And now that you mention, I remember seeing a PC version of FF7 at a K-Mart once.

You're acting like the first movie didn't do enough to overplay it.
I have the PC version. Was the first one I got years before I found a used PSOne copy for $7 at a Specs Music store.

"Americanizing" for PW is better pulled off than others. Otherwise, we'd have a TON of Japanese jokes and puns fly past us.
The Japanese version, Gyakuten Saiban, is JUST as clustered with gags and puns and cheesey dialogue. Capcom merely had to rewrite things so they would make sense in the English language and some simple pokes of references to gamers who would catch and get said references.
@Cap'n:

Matrix came out in 1999. Max Payne came out in 2001. We had two years to forget about The Matrix. :P Especially when most figured it wouldn't blow up into a trilogy (an awful one at that).
Yeah who the fuck buys the PC version of an FF game anyway

Visuals were smoother, the translation and spelling errors were fixed and some glitches were fixed.

Because absolutely nothing referenced the Matrix between 1999 and 2001.

I'll take that over Maya asking for hamburgers,characters who clearly look asian speaking with Southern accents, and that annoying ass pun regarding Larry's last name, anyday that why I'm hoping capcom treads slowly (dialog wise) with Apollo Justice.
Yeah, the Gyakuten Saiban games have a bunch of really odd puns and so on in the original, and from what I can tell they're about as groan inducing and absurd as the gags in the English localization
of course, that's not to say I 100% love the localizations. A few names I don't care for (though I admit that's likely due to habit of calling them the Japanese one), and the constant references to shitty internet memes kind of needs to stop.
@Sandai:

So Maya asking for stereotypical Japanese foods in an American translation would be any better?
Lotta Heart's southern accent is ACCURATE as her Japanese accent in the original is Japan's equivalent of what an American southerner speaks like. To be brief, she spoke like a hick in the original as she does in the translation.
Larry's name in Japan, Masashi Yahari, was equally gagged on in the original. Often resulting with "Yahari" sounding similar to "yappari", which would be basically saying "You know it's Yahari." In fact, EVERYONE in Gyakuten Saiban has a pun involving their names. Take Ryuuichi Naruhodou (Phoenix Wright) for example. Naruhodou is also the Japanese term for basically "I see."
You LOSE. Good day, sir.
Also, regarding internet stuff, let's look at Sal Manella. The closest thing that could have been done with him was make him a comic book nerd as he's original a typical stereotype of an otaku. But it's honestly much funnier to go a different route than with a typical comic book nerd route by using the INTERNET fanboy instead.
With the way Maya keeps mentioning hamburgers you'd think
that everybody in this country eats and only eats hamburgers.
Still stupid any way you slice and if Capcom could do that makes you wonder why the game takes place outside of Japan & why it's called Phoenix Wright instead of Turnabout Court.
Same as above (blame 4Kids for my utter intolerance of puns.)
How Now Brown Cow?

yeah but one isolated example has nothing to do with shit like HILARIOUS FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR THEME SONG REFERENCE
Am I missing something about the internet meme's? In hindsight, Sal Manella was a stretch, but he wasn't on for too long, and aside from that, that SPARDA thing was all I can think of.
Oh and Fresh Prince.
But that was awesome, so it doesn't count.
Anyway, localizations aside, PW is awesome. Why is it even in this thread.
There's probably more but I don't personally have copies of either of the recent ones to go check
@Sandai:

Because clearly what one person eats is what everyone eats.

The series is called Ace Attorney. Not Phoenix Wright.

Translating Japanese puns would be IMPOSSIBLE. You got changes that were close enough. Don't bitch about the English translation when it's dead on in how it was presented in Japan.
From what I read on Gamefaqs the original title Gyakuten Saiban is supposed to translate to Turnabout Court, which more or less explains why almost every case in the game has the word Turnabout in it.
I'm fully aware of the complexity of japanese all I'm saying is that it wouldn't have capcom to come up with something lose juvenile.
And honestly do we have to keep dragging this out let's just put it this way
I like Gyakuten Saiban (Turnabout Court)
You like Phoenix Wright.
I can't speak for Dimond and Pearl since I haven't played them, but I didn't find anything special about ruby/leafgreen/etc.
ruby and sapphire were the worst in the series so far
Meh, Ruby/Sapphire was alright, but my favorite was Gold/Silver.
Cuz they had just about all the original Pokymans
and all those new ones, which were pretty cool IMHO, and it had a day/night feature.
Ruby/Sapphire didn't have a day/night feature, which kinda pissed me off.
Cuz they had just about all the original Pokymans
Kinda odd, considering RS had 22 more and only 2 related to old Pokemon.
Honestly, I think RS gets alot of undeserved flak for the developers actually making people use the new ones, whereas with GS pretty much 3/4ths of the GS dudes rotted while all the old favorites were overused.
But the third gen monsters all sucked.
I could never get into Ratchet & Clank.
@Tommy:
Ruby/Sapphire didn't have a day/night feature, which kinda pissed me off.
Neither did Fire Red or Leaf Green (not to mention the fact that it didn't have a Water Blue Version.)
Don't know about everyone else but I hate all the Dark Cloud games. The most repetitive games I have played in all my life.
@Sandai:

I never played either of those, so I wouldn't know (though my brother has Fire Red).

Yea the first game sucked which really make me wonder 2 things
1. What was all the hype for in regards to the game.
2. Aside from better looking graphics is the 2nd game any better.
@Sandai:

Don't know if number two is a question or not but the second one did have more weapons and upgrades. Also gave a lot more options for making the towns and things but even with that it still didn't fix the horrible game play itself.
Gold and Silver were terrible. Nothing like going to an all new region, just to see it's completely boring and was squashed because they put fucking Kanto in.
@Sandai:

Why would they remake a remake? Blue was a Japan-only title that had some things incorperated into international releases (such as the Pokémon sprites, Unknown Dungeon's layout, etc). It was also significantly different from Japan's Red and Green.
There was no need to remake that version when it was merely the first Pokémon game remake.
