Too much "Blast Processing" for ya? :P
General Sonic the Hedgehog Thread (Now With Movie 3 & Knuckles)

I found the 2nd Act of Sandopolis horrible to play. Those damn ghosts keep stalking us through the whole stage and we still have to worry about time and opening the doors to go forward.
Sandopolis is one thing, Sonic 2's Metropolis is another horror…
BTW we should rename this to the Sonic games thread. -
@Freeman-12:
The DK Country music was shit, heck I'd play the games and WONDER WTF that music that is playing coming from.
Is this question just poorly worded? Or is it just retarded.
I'm not even talking about his horrible opinion, but where the hell would he expect the music to come from?
-
Perhaps my sentence was poorly worded; basically I feel that the music of the game doesn't fit the feel of the stages. There are very few themes that I like in the DK games, but the majority of the stage themes are forgettable.
I belive the reason I don't like the game's music is because how they don't match up with the stages. -

DK has a magical band of musicians shoved up his ass throughout the game. That or he's a fucking flatuent beast.
-
Really?
I thought the music matched the stages perfectly.
What kind of music would you expect it to have? Heavy Metal?
This reminds me alot of the Bleach music opinions. It's not the best shit, but it fits.
Except the DK music is pretty damn good.
-
Sandopolis was the best Sonic stage act 2 EVER…it made you think..it put you on the edge...and wow it was awsome! I think you guys just don't like a challenge..that level challenged your wits!

I can't think of a game with better fitting music.
-
I personally felt that all but the special themes were kinda fitting, by special I mean-
The bonus stage themes, the other Kong's themes & the 'bonus stage complete' theme. From the top of me head. -

Eh, it was more about remembering which sanslide not to take so you wouldn't have to redo a third of the stage over and over.
Also Sonic's 2 final battle is pretty epic.
-
My problem with Act 2 was the ghosts. The damn ghosts.
-
Oh Carnival Night Zone's barrel…you prevented me from beating Sonic 3 for a whole year.:ermm:
But yeah, Sonic 3 & Knuckles was my favorite Sonic game for the Genesis, with Sonic 2 following close behind.
-
My favorite is still Sonic CD.

The ending of it was. But Sonic 3 & Knuckles' final battle was far more epic. Especially when you look back and realize we wouldn't have a true Sonic-type title until the Dreamcast in 1999 (1998 in Japan).
-
Oh Carnival Night Zone's barrel…you prevented me from beating Sonic 3 for a whole year.:ermm:
You wouldn't never know that the hint for move those barrels was easy as slicing bread.
The way to defeat Robotnik in Marble Garden Zone with Tails is the same case.
-
lol, man I remember me and my bro spending an HOUR with that fucking barrel XD!
Man ever tried beating Eggman/Buttnik in M. Garden with Tails ALONE? Shit was tough, but I think my bro managed to do it.
…and IMHO I like Sonic 3+K's final battle over Sonic 2's, but Sonic 2's final battle was indeed epic. Oddly enough I wasn't too much into the theme of the final battle of 2 but it was cool nontheless.
BTW does anyone have a nickname for the final boss of 2? I used to call it Eggrandizer lol :P -
I can't remember if I've fought the final boss of 2…next time I do I'll think of something. :P
-

Ah Carnival Night Zone. That reminds me of this:

The way to defeat Robotnik in Marble Garden Zone with Tails is the same case.
HOW THE HELL DOES ONE DO THAT? :( I remember getting up to that and just giving the hell up and never trying it again.
-
I love that YTMND solely because I (and lots of other people of course) can relate to that. XD
Although I remember looking through GameFAQs and not finding a solution…
-
^Oh I know I DID find one in an FAQ, just don't remember which one.
Seriously someone needs to add the trick to getting past that sucker in the secrets section of Sonic 3 in GameFAQs. -
Fuck yeah! Sonic 3 and Knuckles is such an awesome game. My personal favorite game of all time. Sandopolis is probably the only blemish that game has in my eyes (besides a few bugs here and there). I still have my Genesis and this game was the main game always hooked up, till recently at least. I wanted to play some Ristar, but damn that game is long and has no save feature.
And to beat Robotnik with Tails on Marble Garden Zone Act 2, you can only hit him with your tails lol. So you pretty much have to dodge him at first and hit him from below when you get the chance.
And I have played all the major Sonic games except Shadow and Sonic 360/PS3. Doubt I will either unless I see them for like 5 bucks or somethin. I really hope Sonic is getting a major revamp with his next game. I don't expect to see it until 2009 and it will hopefully blow me the fuck away.
And to be off topic: About the DKC music thing, not saying they suck or anything, but I presonally don't hear anything particularly special about them. Some are good, but then some people will say "OMFG this track is so awesome" (Bramble Blast) and I go listen to it and I'm all like "…So?" I'm thinking its a nostalgia thing or you have to play on that stage for a certain amount of time before it gets stuck in your head, and THEN its good. I'd rather listen to a song and immediately recognize how awesome it is (Ice Cap). That's just me, though. And that's just me being off topic.
-

$5 is still too much for either of those two pieces of trash.
-
Sonic the Hedgehog (New) isn't as bad as Shadow the Hedgehog. So it's a bit broken and the loading screens suck but it's not that bad.
-
Uh…yes it is. o__O; Shadow's up there, but SONIC THE HEDGEHOG and Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis (the GBA "port" of the first game) are by far the most god awful creations of the Sonic universe. STH is not only filled with extremely long loading times, but has MORE glitches than Sonic Adventure had. Sonic doesn't even move as fast as he used to, the collision detection is absolutely broken, and the story is absolute rubbish.
Sonic's Homing Attack doesn't even home in on enemies anymore. You have to hold down the direction you want Sonic to go in in order to pull it off. In basic terms of game play, you may as well just jump and turn Sonic in that direction in hopes of landing into them.
Sonic's also prone to dying. A lot. Take his encounter with Silver. If your timing with the Homing Attack is not accurate, you WILL die. Especially if you're slammed into a wall close by, as Silver will just walk right over there and launch you into the air just after you've gotten back up and attempted to grab a ring.
And as I mentioned about Sonic's speed, he moves slow in this game. Remember Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2? Specifically Speed Highway and City Escape? Remember how fast Sonic ran in those levels? Yeah, he runs nothing like that in this game. He's a lot slower in STH. :\
Don't even get me started on the story and the awful as hell designs. All in all, I would have NEVER in my years imagined Sonic the Hedgehog would turn out so awful.
-
I mean their new character was a silver hedgehog named SILVER with psychic powers.
It's pretty obvious they aren't even trying anymore.
-
I forget if it was Carnival Night Zone or Marble Garden zone i always got stuck on in Sonic 3
if it was Marble Garden it was because of that skyhigh boss fight
-
Sure I have beat the game couple times but, to be honest, I have no actual memories of what was in it. Something about Sonic I guess.
-
I've never finished any of the older games besides Sonic The Hedgehog. Special Stages always get me T_T
-

Trust me, they never tried when it came to characters and their names. I think there was a fancomic about it but most (and I do mean most) sonic character's names aren't that original. XD
I won't go on their abilities. -
@Cap'n:

Ugh, that was probably one of the most frustrating boss fights. I remember losing so many lifes, especially the drill positions.
-

If it's any help; the first 2 game's special stages are merely based on luck to finish, but u don't HAVE to get all chaos emeralds in them to get a better ending (especially Sonic 1 as it doesn't serve any purpose at the end of the game after collecting all emeralds).
Now Sonic 3+Knuckles is ANOTHER story; there are patterns with which you can not only finish them in BUT get bonus score points and such.
Just get an emu and ROM of the game and try IT, then implement it in the consoles. -
Special Stages of Sonic the Hedghog 2 are pretty easy without the AI partner running around crashing into spike bombs. Otherwise those are pretty easy.
-
Actually now that I think about it, you're better off NOT getting Super Sonic in 2, it's a BITCH to finish Wing Fortress with Super Sonic…or maybe it's just me :P.
-

This made me curious about what people think of Amy and Rouge.
-
You don't wanna know some of the things some people think about Amy and Rogue. Trust me. D:
-
Big the Cat was the only worthwhile character made after the Genesis era
and the fan base apparently hates him
See the Sonic fanbase is like the antithesis of everything good in the world
-
Ehhh don't tell me it is sexual stuff :S
If that is the case, I can understand the reason of the "Trust Me"
-
@Cap'n:

Sad, but true. I thought Big was cool.
Yeah, Sonic 3 & Knuckles was one of my favorite Sonic games. Though I kinda prefer Sonic 2 and Sonic CD. Before anyone jumps down my throat and tells me how "overrated" Sonic CD is, I probably wouldn't like it as much if not for the nostalgia. Same with Sonic 2, except people don't seem to think it's "overrated."
-

That's cause most people are too busy trying to claim Sonic 2 is the best thing in the world. :P I personally found Sonic and Sonic CD better than Sonic 2. Sonic 2 just didn't have the same feeling as those two had, especially level design-wise. Plus Sonic 2's soundtrack was kinda less memorable for the most part, with only a few songs standing out.
-
I guess nostalgia plays a role in why I like Sonic CD so much. I thought the game was pretty amazing when I was a kid.
And I was shocked when I first found out people didn't like Big the Cat.
-
I hate Big the Cat.
But I hate Shadow, Rouge, Amy, talking Knuckles, talking Sonic, Silver, etc much much more.
I liked that robot in the first Sonic Adventure.
-
I liked Big and Gamma from SA. They were atleast smart enough to kill off Gamma before he became something horrid (like Omega). Big was just loveable. (As much as I hated having to fish for that frog.)
-
I think the reason people hated Big was because of those fishing levels in Sonic Adveture. I know I loathed those, and it's been years since I played it.
-
I hate Big the Cat.
I had my second heart attack.
I liked that robot in the first Sonic Adventure.
I liked the robot too.
-
I didn't like the faggy ripoff robot in heroes though.
-

Well I like Big the Cat too, compared to half of the other new characters we have had since Sonic Adventure but I wouldn't say he was the best thing the series ever had.
I didn't like the faggy ripoff robot in heroes though.
Yeah. Omega was basically Sonic Teams way of bringing Gamma back without having to come up with some plot explaning why he has returned.
@Senshi:

? They weren't that bad. I managed to finish his story in less than an hour with no problems. Hot Shelter kinda sucked since you actually had to move around and Big isn't exactly built for travel.

I would have to say that Sonic the Hedgehog CD was my favorite Old Gen Sonic game. And the soundtrack was great~

His English voice was horrible, too. Originally, Big was just slow sounding. Big in English sounded like a big, dumb, meathead.
"Duuuuh, WAIT FOR ME, FROGGY!"
-

Yhea, that was a huge part of it. How did his japanese voice sound.
It could certainly change my feelings about him. -
It sounded like Mr. 4. Well the same kind of super slow speaking voice.
-
You don't wanna know some of the things some people think about Amy and Rogue. Trust me. D:
I stand by what he says, so I played Sonic 3 yesterday and man have I lost my edge with it, especially in the Special Stages XD.
I now just remembered that if you fail in one Special Stage to get an emerald, the next one you enter will not be the same stage but a different one.
