I mean, if the gameplay is 2D then maybe I'd settle for something like cel shaded graphics (though that on a 2D fighter sounds odd), but I like sprites because they typically have so much more art to them than 3D models. I've always thought 3D models looked kind of bleh.

I mean, compare guys in the latest Tekken or Soul Calibur games to Guilty Gear XX or Street Fighter III.

As long as this game isn't another goddamn SF2, I should be fine.

Yeah I always liked 2d fighters better because 3D fighters characters generally look like soulless plastic dolls. And the closer we get from photorealism with the next gen systems the worst it gets. Soul Calibur IV for example is a disaster IMO.

Now something like The Rumble Fish with high quality cell shading probably wouldn't be too bad… I think the chances of SF4 being 2d are almost null anyway.

I remember when games like Toshinden came out and people said they had the best graphics ever. But then if you compare them to the sprite based games from the same time period, they don't hold up quite as well.

In regards to the 'and some other crap' in the title; I recently saw a vid of SF II HD gameplay and all it is SFII with UDON's fancy art with some nice SFX….but with the same voices & audio from the original game...

That's how I see it as well (The Last Blade games are all sorts of pretty). And I really just don't like how most 3D fighters "feel" and how they're generally based off complex "combo trees", give me good old half circle and quarter circle motions any day.

I know it boils down to "GOOD GAMEPLAY TRUMPZ ALL" but yeah, the Street Fighter franchise isn't well renowned for the titles that didn't conform to the 2D sprite based look, and that's why many people are worried they might muck up Street Fighter if it goes away from that.

Nice post Tal. Killing two birds with one stone as I was looking for a high quality vid of SF HD remix in action. Good to see they're giving the SF characters additional moves (they sorely need, especially Guile although he's still a beast) in the Remix mode.

As for SF4, and Okami artstyle could definitely benefit the game. I wouldn't mind if the game had graphics like the one in the trailer (I wouldn't shun 2d sprites either), so long as it still has the classic SF4 feel. Either way, 2d or 3d, I'm buying it day one.

Although I'm a tad bummed that the original creator of the SF series doesn't seem to be working on it. Still, anxious to get some more infor.

Street Fighter would look bad with a Rumble Fish look, honestly.

The amazing animation of Third Strike was the highest selling point of that game. Can't really imagine Q being in anything other than 2D.

but after being told to "Look at the trailer for direction" I can't really see anything suggesting this game will still be hand drawn.

I'm gonna go with my gut and say SF4 will still be 2d (mostly cuz I trust the guys at SNK-Capcom forums), but yeah, the vid Tal just posted doesn't seem to point in that direction. But if it can maintain the same feel and gameplay of the series and live up to the better SF games, I'll be satisfied.

BTW they announced who is going to be the lead chief on the game's development; Ono. He previously worked on Onimusha 4, Chaos Legion & Shadows of Rome and Capcom Fighting Jam

Street Fighter seriously needs to lose the battery nonsense. Capcom, it's pretty embarrassing when your characters can gain Super Meter by punching at the air.

Yeah, I read the SF4 producer's resume. Not too impressed but maybe we'll get lucky and won't suck. Oh well, whatever CoJ makes will be Platinum compared to whatever Capcom USA would make.
