maybe because you heard the anime fillers butchered the anime version?
the anime version and the manga version vastly differ in the DBF arc.

Yes, it was that book.
(sorry for the late reply)
Huh, I might go out and get that just to show people I know massive spoilers XD
Hmm. I might get it if I come across it at some point.
I've flipped through that unofficial guide and it's got a lot of inconsistencies like character names that are spelled differently throughout the book. I really don't get who this book is aimed at since people who read the scans online wouldn't have any use for it and kids who only follow Viz or the Dub will get major plot points spoiled up to Volume 45.
VIZ MEDIA TO HIGHLIGHT MANGA TITLES AT LONDON MCM EXPO
VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), one of the entertainment industry's most innovative and comprehensive publishing, animation and licensing companies, announced today they will be highlighting some of their internationally bestselling manga titles at the October 2007 London MCM Expo.
VIZ Media will showcase titles such as NARUTO, BLEACH, DEATH NOTE, ABSOLUTE BOYFRIEND and more.
I’m sure One piece wont be on show but even so there should be a rep or something to talk to about the release speed of the One piece manga.
Since Gollancz is releasing One Piece over here, I'm not surprised it's not mentioned. I doubt I'd go, but if I could, I'd probably ask them if they were planning to speed up their One Piece release and if not, why not (just to put them on the spot and see how they'd react).
I picked up the unofficial One Piece guide and while it gives information all the way up to the end of Ace VS Blackbeard, the translations are horrible.
At two points I can recall, they switched Robin's name with Luffy (ex. Spandine placed the bounty on Luffy, Luffy lived on an island of scholars in West Blue.), they said Usopp had never invented anything worthwhile, and apparently, Blackbeard ate a Zoan Devil Fruit. Not to mention that there were spelling errors galore, even on the back cover.
It's a pretty handy book to have, but god do I want to smack the translator upside the head.
I would get that, but no Thriller Bark. I would mainly get that for drawing from it, so I don't have to go online to see what a character looks like.
Anywho… I got the new issue. When Wapol blasts the Luffy holding the flag, after the smoke clears and you still see Luffy... he says "See? I'm unbreakable." Is it me, or does that seem really out of place? I could have swore he was talking about the flag not being able to be destroyed.
Looks like a context error.
「お前なんかに折れるもんか」 <–[talking about the flag:] "None of you guys are gonna break it!"
「ほらな、折れねぇ...」 <–-[talking about the flag:] "See? Not broken…"
I remember the anime made it a bit more specific, but that's what I remember from the manga. But, don't worry, I can assure you Viz has made a mistake on more than one occasion. (And you can usually tell, because the sentences make no sense whatsoever.)
Wow. Even 4Kids didn't screw that up… I believe their translation was...
"This flag will not fall!"
Yeah. (Damn, that was the choice of wording I was gonna use, but didn't.) "It will not fall to the likes of you!" The wording was a bit different in the anime than in the manga, but it's still basically the same thing.
And if you like that, you should listen to this gem of a beauty from their YGO collection:
"If you want to kill me…you'll have to kill the cards!" from "俺を殺すなら,カードで殺せ!" ("If you're going to kill me, kill me with cards!")
Damn genero-translations. Sometimes I think that some companies run dialogue through Excite Translator and fix up the results…
For you people that have already read it….did Viz screw up Hiluluk's death speech?
To be fair, Viz only screwed up Zoro/Zolo, Lougetown/Rougetown, andd like….2 volume titles.....and changing Inherited Will to Carrying on His Will......the old one sounds better XP

So, that error was in SJ, right? Because if it hasn't been released in a graphic novel yet, perhaps someone could send them an email and ask if they could fix it? Quite frankly, they would only have to change "See? I'm unbreakable." to "See? It's unbreakable." and it would make sense.
not really.. why would he have to save it if it's unbreakable?
not really.. why would he have to save it if it's unbreakable?
Well, "unbreakable" is a valid translation. And the reason he would say so is because the flag is still standing, even if he is holding it.
I don't think SJ's editors ever doing anything with updating a mistake. They're pretty damn lazy when it comes to that stuff.

However, once the 4Kids-dub came out, they took the time to edit every single instance where they say "Zoro" to "Zolo". By just removing the R and adding an L instead, as far as I can tell. Sometimes the L doesn't quite fit in with the other letters. (Too big or small compared to the rest of the sentence.)
Well, that's just on part of Viz conforming to whatever the holders of anime license want to do. But, they don't really fix typographical or graphical mistakes all that often.

Actually, it's Viz complying with corporate policy; their parent company Shueisha owns the Roronoa Zolo trademark.

I'm not completely sure this is the same with all of Viz-owned properties, though. It probably is, though, and I'm just being stupid. XD
I used to respect Viz, when the people running Shonen Jump realized what the meaning of shonen meant and that they had teen readers not 5-year old readers. Now they're just fucking retarded.
Shonen = Boy
Shueisha's Japanese Shonen Jump is a primarily targeted towards children and pre-adolescents.

Yea, but in America, only teens and up read manga. Plus, content wise, the language and blood is too mature for children, by American standards. So it's raited 13 and up. So that's means that pretty much anyone can read it, except for chldren.
Ahh, I was under the impression that Shonen meant Young Man or something like that.
@Preston:
Ahh, I was under the impression that Shonen meant Young Man or something like that.
Yes. It means that as well. However, the focus of Weekly Shonen Jump has always been the young males/boys.
And, of course, I know when you flip that picture over to the US, things have to be adapted as so, and thusly, you attract a different audience…mostly older. Some things that are acceptable as a standard for a young boy to know and/or view are a bit more taboo over in the States.
America is full of double standards though. I mean the same country that's ok with kids who are only 13 or so play games like Halo and GTA3 (you know this to be true because there's no strict age restrictions at most stores and parents truly do let them do it) freak out about anime and manga with blood (but little to no deaths, which holds especially true for One Piece), minor cussing (hell, damn, jeez c'mon my middle school teachers say this stuff) and smoking (if people truly believe that even after all the DARE programs and truths revealed about smoking that kids will want to smoke after just seeing ONE anime character do it…they're not giving those kids enough credit).
I mean look at American comics too, people die in like almost every other issue, and there's only really two ratings: adult and everyone else, and when I refer to deaths and such, I mean that they do occur in the everyone genre too. The adult is much more hardcore only in that it has nudity, cussing (talkign bout shit and fuck here) and graphic violence. And no one every bars teens from getting them either (not that the comics market is all that popular though in comparison to the manga market)
I'm just saying, it's kinda unfair to pick on one genre/style just because it's foreign and usually the original creators won't have a say in it.

Damn straight

^Dang…
Not too bad. It doesn't look as horrible as the previous ones. It actually looks good.
(gives thumbs up)
Wait, for the OP volume 17 cover, why is it by Yoko Kamio?
Simon Says received the wrong listing or the editor of the page was pulling an all nighter.
Well, I finally pulled my issue of Shonen Jump out and started reading Bleach. I instantly noticed it when I saw it:

They edited it. XD (check your issue)
EDIT: They edited out the boob-squeeze http://groups.msn.com/-Bleach-/chapter183.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=1804 ..that's just wrong. XD

I…haven't read past the Soul Society arc in the manga, but that's Kon in the first pic, not Ichigo, right...?
Maybe they'll be restored in the graphic novel realease.
^They do, actually.
@Yuugi's:
Hmmm, I actually thought Viz would do the same thing they did with Dragonball, and change the name of the manga to "Naruto Shippuuden" once they got to that part. Guess I was wrong.

They don't really have any reason to. DragonBall Z the anime was brought over and made popular here before the DragonBall portion was, so it would have confused people to keep the name of the manga all the same as just "DragonBall." That's not the case with Naruto, though.

They'll probably just change it back for the GN release, they do stuff like that all the time with Naruto, and Bleach.

The funny thing is the volume is already out. I think they just did the intro stuff so they could have continuity with what's coming and not burden those with the last chapters of Soul Society.
Wonder if they'll edit Nami's towel up more in that part of Alabasta when they get to it. XD
(Even tho, in the manga it only shows her upper back to begin with.)
From VIZ editor:
Hello, <my name="">.
Part 1 of the interview with Inoue-san and Uda-san will be in SJ 60
(Dec. issue, Nov. 6 street).Part 2 will be in SJ 61 (Jan. issue, Dec. 4 street).
The rest of the interview will be placed later on SHONENJUMP.com.
Thanks so much for your help during the interview!
Michelle</my>
Inoue-san and Uda-san are One Piece animation directors from Toei, and they were interviewed by VIZ during their visit in Anime Expo 2007.
Neato!
Now, if only they would publish the series bi-monthly for a while…

Or do a psycho release like they did for Naruto…...TT
That would require Viz to use multiple translators like they did with Naruto and I'm not sure they want to pay that much money.
Too bad the interviews usually amount to nothing more then stupid prattling. Just look at one they did with Oda a few months back.
I tell ya, I sure hope I don't win that DBZ Season 3 boxset contest. I moved, so if I did it'd be sent to whoever is living there now. Doubt I'll win, so it's not a problem. But seriously….that'd suck..hard.

At least I had fun sitting with them, listening them to talk. They had two interview-ee, so they talked non-stop and always went off-tangent (to the point I gave up interpreting half way through  ). I wonder how much they'll cut down…
Just finished reading the issue. So…did Bleach replace Naruto, or is it temporary? It says next month they are showing the pilot, and the month after "unveil a new naruto". But I don't know rather to interpret that as a new chapter, or some sort of coverage of Part 2 of the manga.
