Now that the new Texas FUNimation dub of One Piece has premired, I have the following to say:
You win.
You've all got your wish of a faithful dub of the show… but I'm mad as hell that I'm not involved in all this. I agree that what we saw is a major improvement. However, as a New Yorker and a future voice-actor, I'm absolutely mad as Hell that I'm not a part of it. When 4Kids got One Piece, I thought it would be my chance to have an ounce of glory being involved in voicing an extremely popular anime such as One Piece. When the edits got worse, I felt embarrased as a New Yorker. When I heard that the 4Kids production got a mercy killing (as in stopped production), I saw it as a second chance for my city with the assistance of either Central Park Media or NYAV Post, but NO-- you wanted the more popular areas like California, Canada, and Texas (which is ironically a red-state filled to the brim with racists), giving more disrespect to the state where anime was first dubbed (Astro Boy, any one?). Now there won't be any more anime that will come to NYC to be dubbed! Why? Because we had to be the state that ruined One Piece! I fear another 9-11 would happen thanks to 4Kids' folly, and I still fear it happening now. I now I'm going on a rant, but please have sympathy on a fan that has dreams of being recognized for doing something good. I would love to meet people on the street and if they recognize my voice in an animated show, that would make me happy; especially if it was One Piece. I apologize for going on a rant, I'm sorry for having a Budd Dwyer respective of the world right now, but it happened. Surely you people understand where I'm coming from.
Hope you're happy,
Anthony "A-Log" LoGatto
