I just watched the first ep of this. Does not seem like anything special. When does it start picking up pace?
That might come from the fact that, I don't know, you watched one episode.
Come on, it doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

Well, the next ep did not seem so good either. And I am gonna guess Hunter exams are like the Chuunin exams from Naruto? But Naruto copied it from them, right?
You'll appreciate the beginning the series later on and if you pay close attention to character development. In short, all the great stuff will come soon, as long as you're patient.
And just so you know, the anime goes at a slower pace than the manga, so if the anime drags to much for you, pick up the manga.

Not at all.
They are completely different, and I found the hunter exams to be more interesting, as the test were more than "Written test" and One on one fights. Even the one on one fight portion was more interesting imo.
People just like to overgeneralize things, and then make connections with those generalizations to feel smart.
Like the "Hueco mundo is EXACTLY like soul society" and "Enel is based off Eminem" arguments.
The weakest part of hunter, was the battle tower imo. Probably because I didn't like Nen at first(liked the lack of energy blasts in hunter exam portion), and it was just fighting and explaining. But nen grew on me with how well it was handled.
I still don't have a good understanding of nen, but still too lazy to go back and re-read yet.
the tournament portion of the Hunter Exam was even not like most Shounen tournaments and had a nice edge that made it that much harder
Hmm..I am gonna watch it. But I hope its not like most standard shonen (NARUTO AND BLEACH I AM LOOKING AT YOU!) One Piece is the best shonen I have seen. And Hajime No Ippo if that is considered a Shonen.
Hell yes, Hajime no Ippo is damn awesome. HxH is definitely alot better than Naruto and Bleach, but the three best Shonen IMO are:
One Piece
Hajime no Ippo
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Honorable Mention to YYH.
HxH and Hitman Reborn for me. Of course I'm one of the few that likes Naruto but that's another story. Those are really all I need these days in regards to shonen.

JoJo's bizzare adventure has a manga only eh? No OVA or Anime?
it has some OVA's one is decent the other 2 ar not good and the reviews aren't positive / its not findable
I'm still waiting for the Part 1 movie to come out, anyone know when it does? But yeah, it's manga only, but the original OVA is awesome, the second one, not so much.
Which one is the original? The one I saw was about Jotaro and co. heading over to Dio. Last episode I saw was when that guy avenged his sister. ( I was first on part 2 then I wanted to start from the begining.)
Well that would be the 2nd OVA I think
because the first one is when they get to Dio and Jotaro fights him.
And if you want more details about Jojo there is a thread just for that.
On topic: I don't know about you guys but I m definitely choosing the manga, because I didn't like the anime at all especially the beginning :
–--> All that blood censorship and some characters didn't come over like in the manga (for example Killua was portrayed as a kid wit psychological problems or something and that wasn't the cas at all in the manga)
On the contrary, the Greed Islands OVAs were awesome.
Ahhhhhhhhh.
Who bumped this?
I thought a chap was out.

That might be me as well, save for the naruto part.
REBORN is looking awesome. If you like it and hunter exclusively, I think it may join one piece and hunter in my eyes.
Just need to find volumes 1-5 so I can start.

It came out like a year ago

No shit, I mean I'm waiting for a DVD rip to pop up on teh interwebz.
well then specify
and 1 week (HxH has both a Color Page and the Cover…O.o)
It has been gone for so long that it sort of feels weird that its coming next week. I hope we don't get scribble shit, though I'm just glad we're getting the next chapter.
and 1 week (HxH has both a Color Page and the Cover…O.o)
Looks like the old bastard still has it in him.
If its that scribbly shit that he was doing earlier, I'm probably going to be uterly disappointed… Only time will tell.
scribbly and colorpage usually don't go together.
It could have been a color page he did a long time ago, or spent ages on, and then we get a scribbly chapter. Not trying to jinx it, but the end of HXH volume 24 was horrid.
There is no volume 24 yet.
doesn't it come out around the same time
Finally caught up with HxH….
Now I can finally see why people were so pissed. Fucking cliffhanger. I wonder what will happen to that blind girl, shes awesome.
Just to be clear, 260 was the last chapter right?
265 is the last in my DVD…
I bet the new chapter will just be Togashi dipping his penis in ink and then doodling some lines on a few sheets of paper
then he'll go back to sleep
Always the optimist.
It would be awesome if the past year or two he worked on one panel for a week, and we get one chapter looking beyond incredible.
So in the future when someone's reading through the finished series, one chapter will randomly look like the Sistine Chapel ceiling, and Togashi's press team will spread a legend that Togashi worked on the chapter for two years to create the greatest drawn manga chapter in history rather than have a midlife crisis or whatever stupid japanese social rules won't let us find out.
AMIRIGHT

Don't forget to show all your e-buddies this post when you tell them about your shenanigans.
because this one was so remarkably original and clever compared to everything else you post. = D

I actually just decided to catch up with this series when I heard it was going to continue. It always sounded cool, but I wasn't about to invest my time in a series that was potentially dead.
All I can say is that this series is really as cool as everyone makes it out to be. The HxH world is just too damn cool and Nen is an awesome power. I have to admit, a lot of characters seem like they are ripped off from Dragonball, but I don't really mind. In fact, I began to think of HxH as the continuing adventures of young Goten and Trunks (the similarities are hard to deny).
I had always heard that Togashi kind of mailed it in when it came to the artwork and I didn't really get it until GI was coming to a close and man, did the shit ever hit the fan there (Quite literally, I think he threw shit at a fan and that was his artwork for the week). Well here's to hoping that the quality returns as this Chimera Ant arc has also proved to be pretty entertaining despite the shitty art.
I don't see how Gon and Killua are similar to Goten and Trunks at all.
Especially since they have personalities.
Personalities that weren't "Naive Brat" and "Annoying Brat" I mean.

Oh boy! Another person who hasn't read the volume scans!
i kinda like even the "shitty" art.
im mostly impressed by how he can still tell the story even without backgrounds ^^

Ah yes….The emaculate volume scans! All aspiring artists take note.

Oh I'm sorry, the difference between scribbles and speech balloons floating in blank panels and a real comic book must just not be worth pointing out to people.
I absolutely love the artwork in the volume's.
Stuff like this:http://groups.msn.com/HxHrevamp/vol22.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=4258
Makes me almost forgive Togashi for his weekly outings.
almost. So yeah, as long he keeps up great artwork in the volumes, I'll be content with some less-than-stellar art in Jump.
Yeah, Togashi is a beast when he takes time on his art. Probably my favorite of the current shonen mangaka. Part of me wishes he'd hire some assistants tho as some of the art is painful. But I don't mind too much since the story is top notch.
So…. why can't he do that with his weekly releases? There's not really much excuse
Cuz he's lazy and doesn't like using assistants.
To be real honest, I didn't even mind the art on my first read through since I just was so interested in the plot and characters.
As long as he doesn't take anymore 2 1/2 year breaks and puts out HQ Volume art, I don't really give a shit what the art looks like weekly.
Especially when alot of it is covered up by black boxes anyways.
I still chuckle when basically the whole page was black boxed because it consisted of killing a fat dude. Just a page and a black box on it.
Cuz he's lazy and doesn't like using assistants.
Sadly, this is probably an accurate assessment.
Oh of course it is.
He just happens to be good at what he does.
Toriyama and Oda could probably get away with the same shit.
They just aren't dickheads.
DOn't mean to jump to conclusions, because there may have been some serious shit keeping him from working, but that's what it looks like.
Well lazy worthless pile of shit or no, when its in its finished state I do love the freedom of his to go from goofy ass cartoony panels to immacuatly detailed portrait style drawings in the drop of a hat.
No matter how much time it was discussed or how many people beat the dead horse, even one squick from someone new will awaken it all once again.
Just for the record though, to add on other stuff said, Togashi's mechanical backgrounds are AMAZING. Truly amazing. Everything made by man just looks so good in his hands. Spare me for not giving immediate examples.
Hmmm. I thought a new chapter came today, or is that next week?
