I'm reading he suffered a heart attack? :(
**"Pope John Paul II suffered a heart attack and his condition is "very serious", Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls said today.
"Following a urinary tract infection, septic shock and a cardiocirculatory collapse occurred," Navarro-Valls said in a statement.
The 84-year-old pontiff was given the last rites yesterday, Italian media reported."**
-
He just went into a coma a few hours ago…..
-
Damn… I'm about as close to agnostic as you can get (I'm Catholic by name only), and I feel bad… He's a good man.
-
Dammit man, everyones dying on me…
-
I'm a devout Catholic and this is like having a sword stabbed through your heart.
-
He's been probably the best Pope as far as the history of Popes go so many in the world will miss him. I think it's serious loss for the world and I'm an agnostic Episcopalian. He is very old and has been sick for quite a while though so people shouldn't be surprised if the man passes away very soon. And its not like there isn't going to be another Pope, we just have to hope the Cardnals choose another decent man to lead them.
-
Goddamit.
Now the Vatican is denying that he's in a coma.
Is he or is he not!? -
I'm Christian by birth, but agnostic by nature. It's still bad to see this guy suffer.
Hmm, the news said that he is in no coma and is actually awake…
-
CNN is now the bane of my life.
It changes from coma to non-coma every few minutes…. -
oh noz! "Friend"'s plan to kill the Pope is proceeding as planned!
Sorry, couldn't help it. Anyhoo, I don't know very much about Popes. (I know that they have cool hats.) But I do know that when he dies, it will be a sad day.
-
Well, the latest news say that he's concious but in grave condition….
-
that is too bad he seemed like a nice person
-
I'm neither catholic or religious, but I respect the Pope a great deal. The man has lead an amazing life. He's been ill for quite a while so whatever happens, I hope it is peaceful in the end.
-
Well God has kept him alive for as long as possible, and at least he will go with honor and pride
-
This is going to sound strange coming from an agnostic who was raised Protestant (and lives with an anti-vatican family), but a girl in my year at school died a few days ago because she got hit by a London bus. So the news about the Pope is actually making me feel sad, and (surprisingly to me) is moving me. I hope he passes in peace, and he was lucky to live such a long life.
-
I'm not Christian, but the Pope sounds like a good man. It must be terrible for this to happen right after an important Christian event (or at least I read somewhere? Sorry for any inaccuracy or offense, if any, that might have provided). I hope he recovers.
-
The Italian news says that the Pope died.
If this is true, he will be sorely missed… He was a good man. I hope it was peaceful, and I hope he rests in peace.
-
I'm Catholic. I have relatives in Italy who are probably balling their eyes out at the moment.
But in all honesty I did not really respect his actions or his views. I think he was a stubborn and sometimes bigoted man that should have retired 9 years ago when he turned 75 just like he forces other Cardinals to do.
No offense to everyone else (especially to you, Forte). Like I said, I'm a baptized Catholic. But many of his actions over his tenure have really irritated me. For example, he once said that gay people who adopt are, "… doing violence to these children." I happen to know some gay couples with children and feel that they are better parents than alot of people out there.
Regardless of my personal feelings on him, I do feel though that the Church has been absolutely disgusting in trying to "hide" his illness for as long as possible and parading him around during Easter Week when you could clearly see he was a mess.

**What? Now…?
-
He's dying, but at least when he's dead he won't suffer. Or maybe he's already dead. In that case, it's good for him. I don't know how good he was but I heard he opposed the war. Even if he didn't he still shouldn't be that sick and suffering.

Aw, no way. O_o Seemed very quick of a response after my post. Ah well. It's sad to see him go if that's the case. Hopefully he rests in peace and everyone who was affected by this, I wish you all the best of luck.
Sad that Terri Schiavo died just very recently as well. :(
-
Seems the Italian news jumped the gun. He's still alive, according to the Vatican. But he seems to be in bad shape.

The Church has a history of hiding things from the public. I wouldn't be suprised if he actually died yesterday and they just don't want to announce it yet as they finish up some of their backdoor negotiations on a successor.
I don't want to come off as sounding too harsh on this subject. It is a shame anytime someone passes away. But the Church is a hybrid of a corporation and a political government. It therefore suffers from the same bureaucracy and corruption that other organizations do and it would be in character for them to drag this out for as long as possible.

They tend to die in threes. Who's that comic that just died?
-
He's Mitch Hedberg. Maybe they'll do some twisted April Fools thing about it.
-
Everyone is jumping the gun on the poor Pope
-
I'm a Christian also, just by the faith in the Bible. It"s sad to see this guy suffer. I hope the select an new Pope to replace him
-
Well,he better be good.
-
This belongs in General!
-
Oops…sorry bout that.
Well, every newspaper Ive read today says he's concious but near death..... -

Don't forget Johnny Cochran died too. And from everything I've read, the Pope is on his way out for sure. God rest his soul and all that.

**See, I agree with you on some points here, but I do think that in general the Pope had good intentions most of the time. And unlike some religious leaders he was very well educated and well-read, which I respect. But love him or hate him this papacy has been a very influential one, I'd hate to be the guy who has to follow him.
Some idiot on another board actually posted a thread that said, "Who would you rather die, the Pope or Jerry Falwell?" and I'm thinking, "How the bloody hell do you compare the Pope to Jerry Falwell!?"
-
I guess all I have to say is he led a good, long life. I don't see anything tragic about his passing. It's sad if he's been suffering, but everyone dies eventually. You can't stop time. All you can do is make the best of your life, and he will definately leave behind a memory.
I find death to be tragic when the victim is young, or the method was horrific. Maybe I'm just insensitive or something, but I don't see anything tragic about dying to old age.
He's 84 years old… that's not a bad age to make it to. He's outlived everyone in my family.
He'll certainly be missed though.

Its funny how CNN likes to lie. I have been in Milan for the past several weeks and as you would probably guess, the Pope dying is a very big deal here. There are elections to be held this Monday and all political campaigning has stopped because of the news of the Pope. Even this weekends soccer matches have been cancelled, a very big deal indeed.
Now, when I say CNN likes to lie, I mean this. My friend and I were making dinner last night and we had CNN World on in the other room when we heard the reporter start saying that the Pope had died. We're both like, "oh shit, let's turn on RAI (the state run, main television station which would honestly be the very first place for any news regarding the Pope) in the kitchen and see what they're saying." We turn it on and the people there are just talking about the Pope as they had been all night, nothing new. Then a minute later, the host says they were just told that the American media had reported the Pope has died, then they just kind of shook their heads in disgust at the American media and went on. Following that, CNN retracted their story and the rest of the night it kept flashing up on the screen and the reporters kept saying that the Italian media had falsely reported the Pope dead. Guess they didn't think that someone in Italy who was watching the Italian media would bother to also watch their crappy news, but I'm sure happy to have caught them in their lie.
On another note, I had bought train tickets a few days ago to go visit Rome on this coming Monday. I didn't want to go on Easter week because the city was going to be packed with pilgrims. I'm now getting the feeling that Easter week would have been nothing compared to this week, but at least I get to go there during an important event. I mean, it isn't everyday that a Pope dies.

Latest news…..Pope weakens further.
Shows signs of losing conciousness. -
Well the Pope is now dead, Italian media has officially confirmed it. I trust it. And I will miss the man who was the greatest leader of a religion in modern memory. I may not be Catholic, I may disagree with several of their views, but I will miss this man immensly. He meant well and never took any serious stance of which I could disagree. The man was all about peaceful resolution and reconciliation of wrongs. Rest In Peace Giovanni Paolo II.
-
Ecce homo.
Rest in peace. -
Tis sad…Rest in Peace
-
I'm glad he's dead… I don't mean that in a mean way, just to end his suffering, he's been quite ill for some time, and to end the suffering of his followers who have been worried deathly about him.
RIP.
-
Yeh, I heard the sad news this morning. But then again, he lived a very full life, & had gone through so much during his 26 years as Pope. So it's more of a sense of happiness, more than sorrow, when reflecting over all of his accomplishments & good will he spread not to just the Catholic world, but the entire world.
-
Well,at least he isn't suffering anymore.
-
like all dead people want u to do….move on. thats what i did when people who where close to me died. i went on with life and showed no emotion to there deaths later on in life
-
i never knew anything about the pope…. i thought they changed popes every year... but i learned everyhting today and so i do feel bad, he sounded like a good person
-
I saw his face in some pictures and saw how he was suffering. It's good that he died so it doesn't have to happen anymore.
-
For his good.RIP
-
sigh
I liked the old guy =
not because I'm a follower or anything
but I just like certain people I see -
piece be open him he was a good guy
-
but this world had alot of good person we don't know ..we can't care too much …we're just 1 person lol ....
