But she didn't say that…
Well, it would have been funny if she did.
I'm in the pacific coast, so I haven't watched the episode yet.
-
She says "We're in a time-warp, eh? Then we better move fast."
-
She says "We're in a time-warp, eh? Then we better move fast."
Well that sounds like Robin.
-
Whew, thank you. I'm glad it was just my ears being sucky.

The new dub MIGHT start on September 29.

-
Ha, I just realized something.
In the beginning of the 4kids dub opening of We Are, they gave Gold Rodger a pirate accent. Now I wonder if they were going to give some of the characters pirate accents.XD
-
I don't even know why they even did the rainbow mist arc, but I guess it's better than them ending after Alabasta and FUNi picking it up on a filler arc.
-
I remember them actually displaying the Cartoon Network logo a few years back during Family Guy.

For some reason Luffy is still on 4kids main page

I watched last night's episode, and I gotta say, 4kids is AWESOME at keeping track of the geography of the One Piece world. Two weeks ago, Johnny and Yosaku made reference the fact that they were, in fact IN the Grand Line, despite being in an East Blue flashback. This week the Pumpkin Pirates say how much they'd love to travel to the Grand Line, despite the fact that their island is in the middle of it.
Bravo 4kids. Bravo.
-
Well, the infamous "Hammer-Gun" episode has arrived at Jetstream. Lol

Technically they could be saying they want to travel along the rest of the Grand Line. Living in and traveling the Grand Line are two different things.

I'm pretty sure they said they want to "travel to the Grand Line," not just "explore the Grand Line" or something like that. I could be wrong. But whether it's technically explainable or not it still definitely sounded like a 4kids geography error.

Whatever…
4KIDS doesn't like to have any logic in their anime. -
Just so you know, I wasn't defending 4kids. Just some of us hate 4kids so much we try to hard to find errors.
-
I know that, I loathe 4kids. It''s because of them we have dubbie problems.
-

That's… exactly what he means.
Too much hate sometimes leads to "making stuff up" about things they've "done". Not that they haven't done lot's of bad stuff. But sometimes people make it sound as if they're really truely the "devil". >_>
And "dubbie problems"? What the heck is that sopposed to mean?
-
Really, the hammer gun edit was just…too much. They could have done something else with a lot less trouble. You want my honest opinion? I think 4kids actually saw One Piece as a joke, now you probably will say that isn't how a business is, but I honestly think 4kids wanted to see how ridiculous they could make One Piece.
I see it even more them making it ridiculous thinking it'd appeal to kids more. I'm sorry, just a lot of what they did to it doesn't make me simply think they did it to censor.
-
Well, obviously, they stuck a wacky weapon there because they, themselves, felt it fit in One Piece "wacky" world. Although they got lazy afterwards, and just opted to recolor them.
However, I doubt they did it all just to "spite" the anime fans or whatnot. Some people seem to think that.
They thought they were marketing and targeting the series right. That's all it comes down to.
-

Exactly. This is also why 60 year olds shouldn't do anything with anime points at Kahn
-
Lol, well that's not true. Though, if they're aiming to heavily alter something, they really shouldn't even bother.
-
My main problem with the Hammer Gun, like alot of edits, are they weren't even friggen consisten!
-
My whole tiff with 4kids was that Al Kahn seemed to keep saying that kids are too stupid to bother reading the manga in the first place.
And that anime fans are hiding under rocks.
I'd like to shove him into the middle of a convention.

He SAID it at a convention. xD People "booed" him too. I actually had I link to the recorded audio of his whole speach. It was hillarious =3 But that was before my laptop crashed… so I don't have it anymore.

You mean he wasn't stoned to death?
 For shame. I had higher expecations of my fellow anime fans.

I would've said "4shame!" instead, to make a pun.
Man, I find it hilarious that I got my girlfriend into One Piece just telling her all the stuff that 4kids did. She got interested.

XP I almost did, but then I'd have been as bad as them.
-
Well, personally I thought it would've been pretty punny.
-
And "dubbie problems"? What the heck is that sopposed to mean?
Have you watched the "worst 4kids dub moments"? Some guy named SasukelionsbarrageXO (He's a big dub fan) flamed "Tsukento" who made the videos saying "That he was defaming the American One Piece" and spouting crap… Here's the vid:
=I admired that guy liked dubs, but he told "Tsukento" to die and stuff. Plus he called people who liked the sub "Anime freaks" just because we like subs.
When I mean "dubbie" problems I mean people like this guy. If 4kids didn't exist/didn't have their hands on One piece/ or became better…there wouldn't be that much hate right for them would there be?
-
Hahaha, that video is pretty funny. Still, I don't think I'd label this a "dubbie problem" so much as an "elitist problem." Anyone with that kind of attitude about anything is just shortsighted. Sub elitists of that extreme bug me to the same extent (though more often since there's a lot more of them).
The question of whether or not altered versions of a show warrant being called legitimate or not is an interesting one that I've thought about (especially after 4kid's OP premiere). I have way too many thoughts on the matter. Abridged version - generally yes, though your opinion is usually tainted a lot depending on which version you started on. You'll notice most of the members of these forums who were exposed to 4kids version first are a lot more mellow about all this. (This dub elitist guy really seems to be a rarity of epic proportions).
So yeah, I believe that there is a place in this world even for 4kid's One Piece. However, I also agree with Tsukento in the above video that 4kid's OP really is a crappy dub among crappy dubs. These days I don't consider minor alterations to the video or dialogue my main problems with the show (although at times they are boggling). Rather, it's the moments that make no sense, have no consistency, or otherwise hint that 4kids just slapped it together (like the geography errors). That's just sloppy, no matter what "version" you're talking about. But I do realize that I'm probably x10 more aware of these things than I would be if the english version had been my first introduction to the series.
In conclusion, 4kids isn't evil. They just suck sometimes.

not sure if this was shown yet but Vol.11 is soon to be out
http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/code-j/section-videos/pid-1004994765/6 epidsodes…. Why does the cover remind me of Photoshop a bit?

The Vols always reminded me of Piñatas. XD
Anyways, is that like the first volume that Funi sells after getting the rights of the older episodes all for itself?

Those are the 4Kids dvds, distributed by Viz.
-
Hmmm … are Funi's DVDs going to be that bright and ... primary colory?
Or do the original Japanese DVDs actually have similar color schemes?
-
I'm pretty sure they wouldn't make them so eye-blindingly bright. Nor do I think they would continue using that scheme.
The Japanese scheme is much more easier on the eyes and uses some great original art, like most R2 anime DVDs do. They are colorful, but not in the "RETINA ATTACK!" way.

^^ Nice. Colorful, but very tastefully done.
Funi, please, follow their example …!

Ha! It looks like Luffy's punting Chopper.

Episode 3, 'An Unlikely Pair: The Pirate and the Pirate Hunter,' is now available on Jetstream. This episode showcases Helmeppo's infamous spring-hammer contraption and an oddly high-pitched Nami.
Just a thought, but…
Although the new, FUNi-dubbed season is on it's way, I wonder if discussing the 4Kids episodes running on Jetstream will prolong this thread's lifespan?
