This chapter really showed why Berserk is in a whole other league when compared to other manga. There's so little dialogue for Guts, but he says so much with what little there is. Usually, you expect main characters to go on a long soliloquy about their feelings, but Miura doesn't needs to say much to get his point across.

As bleak as Berserk gets, I don't think they're going to have to worry about apostle attacks while at Elfhelm. I remember Casca originally being put up in some area that an elf used to live in, and that somehow repelled evil spirits and apostles. The whole point of them going to Elfhelm is that it's a place where nothing remotely evil would consider going.

I don't know why everyone is so " it was so emotional." :/ He was just kind of sad that he couldn't save her like last time because of his arm. I don't think it had anything to do with whether or not Casca will be the same after she gets her memory back. Try not looking TOO much into things.

Yeah, his missing forearm is the same as the Casca he once knew. Guts can try to replace the arm, and Casca, but it'd just mean that he's trying to fool himself.

It's really neat to see Gut's body get more and more fucked up. Hopefully, Isidro, Serpico, and Shierke will follow a similar trait. Isidro would look great with a few nasty scars.

I started reading Berserk from the beginning because its been a couple of years since I read it for the first time, and i've already forgotten many important details. Some people said that the beginning isn't great, but I thought that even the first volumes were quite awesome, and it just makes it 100 times better when I already know that it will just keep improving and escalate to the point where it is now. I really wish they would make some OVAs of Berserk in the same fashion as Hellsing Ultimate OVAs for example.

Anyways, I also like Gatts getting more and more fucked up. Every battle has a meaning and it also emphasizes the point that he is "only a human" and is basically fighting a losing battle.

I wouldn't call it "fighting a losing battle". Yes, it looks bleak and with how much Guts is up against it looks like there's no way of winning. But that's the entire point, he's the underdog. But really, I think it depends on how far his rage can get him before it finally consumes himself.

Yeah that was my point, didn't mean literally that there is no way of winning for him. He is Guts ffs!

Im guessing its not gonna be a 100% happy ending anyway. At one point I even thought that maybe his hate will push him to use his new comrades as a sacrifice and become an apostle himself, just to be able to kill Griffith. Would have been awesome, but probably won't be happening He is alot calmer these days and it seems like he really doesn't live for vengeance that much anymore. Rather seems like he lives because there are people who need him.

If theres any manga in the world with character development, it has to be Berserk.

The reader doesn't know whether Guts will succeed or fail, though, and that's what is intriguing. It could easily go either way.

That, and even if he does accomplish his journey, it could all end up as predicted: "Maybe what you want is not what Casca wants."

Berserk is totally unpredictable; anything can happen at any time.

i am currently rereading berserk for the 10th time, and i noticed that little discussion between zodd and the skullknight, when zodd says to him: it's you, the one who imprisonned us for 1000 years. what the hell could that mean?

i can't understand what is the skullknight. i hesitate between 2 possibilities: he's, like guts, survivor from an eclipse which resulted in a new god hand, one of these 4, but then he should still be human and that's kinda not possible. he fucking nearly flies, dammit. and he's like 300 years old. or he's an apostle who found a way to remain clear in his mind. the 2nd possibility is my main guess, in fact. will we have the answer in 10 years or what?

It's fine for primary characters to die, especially in a tragic story like Berserk.

The only time it starts to look stupid is when it becomes like a slasher/thriller film, where it's not about the plot and more about: "Okay, I'm going to kill half the characters, and it's time for you to guess who!" Also known as the Deathly Hallows. Characters need to die for a reason, not just because people want to see shit die.

If you have a gigantic cast of minor characters I would think killing most of them off in battle would be fine. Mangas like Naruto or stories like Harry Potter have massive amounts of side characters that are pretty meaningless to the overall plot. Thus, their deaths can happen randomly as dramatic or realistic as possible. However when dealing with main characters it becomes a little trickier. Giving them a meaningless death, while possibly realistic, is incredibly unsatisfying. Remember, we are dealing with works of fiction here. If next chapter Guts dies of a massive case of hemorrhoids and the focus becomes Serpico I think that would destroy the plot completely.

Well he could be an sacrifice like Guts, even though he clearly isn't a human anymore, but we all have seen that all kinds of weird shit can happen in the world of Berserk.

In volume 10, Judeau tells the story of a king who united the whole continent 1000 years ago and wore a skull mask. He tells that at some point "5 angels came from heaven to punish him" and after saying that hes like "Or was it 4?". The angels clearly are the god hand, but everything else is unknown. Skull knight could basically be anything, hell, he could even be an god hand who just quit his job.

Personally I would like to think of him as someone like Guts, since that shows that there has been people like him before and it gives a little hope. Anyways, time will tell.

I thought there was only one of those things, and Skull Knight used to wear the same armor, hence why the helmet was originally shaped like a skull.

I don't know if whatever Skull Knight is will ever be shown. He's obviously not an apostle, and he's strong enough to at least interfere with Godhand. All we know now is that he's pretty badass and is one of the most intimidating characters in the series.

Yeah, somewhat I agree with this mind set. If anything, Skull Knight might be a person who was consumed by the Berserker Armor. And the same thing is slowly happening to Gutts too. But I'm willing to bet that the series will have a happy ending - there will be a price for it but the ending will still be in the realms of "happy". If it would be up to me Gutts would just forget the whole revenge thing but luckily for you guys it's not up to me how the story will unfold…

Judeau, Corkus, Pippen, and the rest of the Eclipse victims deaths seemed to have more meaning because of the way they died. They defended their friends until they were mutilated by horrible demons (Well, except for Corkus, but he got a few pages to freak out before he was killed). DH just seemed to kill people out of nowhere. While basically the same thing, there's a lot less interest behind their deaths.

That, and getting ravaged in a horrific battle by ten story tall demons is much more interesting than getting killed by flying, green fairy-dust or magical drapery.
