SPOILERS!
I really enjoyed it. But it wasn't flawless. Too much going on concerning new villians (especially compared to the last two, both of which I loved to death.), a cheesy scene that went on too long for its own good and THOSE FUCKING KID CAMEOS. "Awesome!" "Wicked cool!" Bleh. Also, why is it that Harry has this tendency to hit his head in nearly the exact same way in each fight?
On the positive side, the core story was enjoyable, if a bit stuffy and I liked the characters. I thought James Franco gave the best performance this time around, IMO.
The Goblin-arc was given a very satisfying conclusion, I liked the symbiote storyline (except for that one over-long scene that feels like something out of The Mask.) but I felt…empty with Sandman's story concerning the ending. I really liked it but there was no real resolution for him, which is too bad because it was very emotional to me.
There was a much more satisfying ending where Marko's family comes to stop him from finishing Spidey off after he has killed Venom; I guess they were strapped for time enough as it is.
Action scenes were great, that's a given. Not much else to say here.
Other little things I liked:
- The police radio Peter had was a fantastic touch.
- I personally liked it when Harry got amnesia. Reminded me of Norman in the comics.
- Thank god. They went with the original rendition of Venom i.e. back when he was actually a good villian. No tongue, no slobbering drool, no mention of eating brains...whew. I personally thought they did Venom justice but I'm glad he's dead. He doesn't have any other worthwhile stories to tell anymore.
And for the love of God, leave Carnage out of the movies. Please.
So overall, to me this is basically Return of the Jedi: Satisfying conclusion but flawed, especially when compared to the previous installment.
Hopefully Raimi and co. (CoughAVIFUCKINGARADCough) will have learned from this one not to have so many villians and focus on one or two in the next one. That is, if they are still on board for the rest.
