Okey, right after seeing the latest episode I had a facial expression close to something like… :pouty:
I just couldn't agree more.
I just….yeah i dunno. Just....:pouty: sums it all up.
I didn't know whether to stand up and applaud, or think to myself 'that was a clever and interesting idea' or call it a throw-away episode, or to declare it as the exact moment LOST jumped the shark.
It's that much of a goddamned mixed bag.
Okay...how do I even deal with this?
The concept was great. LOST writers should be able to have some fun from time to time. Sure the Hurley episode was cute, but I have no doubts that episode WILL be very important to the overall story. That said, this was their time to kinda have some fun with the story. Doing a murder mystery? I think that's a great idea! And why?
Because they're on a goddamn plane. As far as cold-blooded criminals we've got what? The conman with a heart of gold? Face it, not everyone is gonna be worthy of redemption. Okay, so Eko was a murderer without remorse even. But even he had his reasons like the best interests of those around him in the back of his head.
These two were the first we saw who were actually killers who only thought about themselves and their own needs.
Okay, so I liked the idea and even more than that, I loved the setup. Leading us to believe they were going to be some important characters. That was a GREAT scheme and pulled off without a hitch. Fantastic job on their part!
And don't get me started on bringing back characters. Just awesome. How many episodes has Boone been in since he was dead now??? Sweet.
And killing them off right away? Even more brilliant!
Okay...now here's the thing.....er....things......
I could swear to God their flashbacks were ripped from an episode of Heroes.
1. Nikki tells Paolo not to smoke because ashes are evidence. She then continues to open his safe with her bare hands.
WHAT
THE
FUCK
Could she have wiped prints? Yeah but we didn't see it, and she didn't mention it. Lame.
2. In going back and doing scenes, you THINK they might write it to fit the scenes exactly. But no...Locke yelling at turbine man was an incredibly quick scene but they extended it to add Nikki to the mix. I hate shit like that. Subtle differences like clothes, time of day, whatever, okay....no biggie. That's business. But stuff they CAN and SHOULD control? Ugh.
3. Oh boy! The old, 'makes it so everyone thinks you're dead but you're still alive 'drama of the week' plot device. That ALONE. That act in and of itself, makes this episode jumped shark-worthy. Shame on them.
4. On a related note. HOLY FUCK WAS THAT MACABRE!!!!!! Yeah okay, they did it to themselves! I got it! But still! Hurley and Sawyer just fucking KILLED THEM!!!!! "But Greg, it was their greed that..." Yeah yeah, I don't care. That was CRAAAAAAZY they shouldn't have made two decent characters participate in that!!!! Now everytime I see jolly old Hurley I have to think, DUDE!!!!!! YOU FRIGGING BURIED A CHICK ALIVE YOU HORRIBLE MONSTER!!!!! WHY COULDN'T YOU GET WHAT VINCENT WAS TRYING TO TELL YOU!!!!!
5. Oh yeah, Monster. The hell? Was it the spiders? Or did a trio of paralysis-inducing spiders just happen to conveniently be in the neighborhood?
6. Oh yeah, when they found the hatch. The shit? No seriously, what the shit?????? They'd been on the island only a short time and yet they don't find it mysterious that there's a fucking hatch in the middle of nowhere leading in to nothingness on an island in the middle of nowhere. They don't even spend any time thinking about what that means. I mean my God, you'd THINK they'd have mentioned it when the black smoke appeared at the end of Season 1.
7. Ladies and Gentlemen I don't believe it! Out of left field comes Charlie with the confession!!! What the hell? Was that needed in THIS episode???? And then moments later they're standing side-by-side again? Hooooly testicle Tuesday that came out of nowhere and had ZERO emotional impact. Not cool.
8. Locke's scene on the beach. While very cool and very Season 1 Locke, it also wasn't. The scene felt so rushed just to have it in there, that it sacrificed decent acting. While the lines were quite similar to something Locke would have said in Season 1, it just isn't delivered with the same oomph that he had. Feels out of place and strange.
9. Okay, maybe this will be addressed later....but why on Earth would an Other have left a walkie down there? I mean honestly.
Ugh.
I have a lot of complaints but what was good, was so GOOD that they cancelled each other exactly out and all I'm left with in the end is:
:pouty:

Funny, all Greg's think alike I guess http://forum.lostpedia.com/showpost.php?p=84701&postcount=4
