New World = The Americas??

firefist ace, i understand that the poneglyph was taken from Levasseur's cryptogram. there's no doubt about it. but what im saying about the calender refers to the other aspect about the poneglyph.
Levasseur said find my treasure, and tossed it out. Roger said find my treasure blah blah. so the treasure part, and the hidden symbols are most definitely from lavasseur
but. what about the ohara scientists uncovering the truth in the poneglyphs and getting murdered in the process. i believe that the poneglyph has the history of what the corrupt world government did. as well as having the location of the ancient weapons. doomsday.
i'm sure levasseur's cryptogram plays a big role in the poneglyphs, but couldn't oda combine other themes into the poneglyph???
Hehe yeah I thought everyone knew that the first European to discover America was Leif Eriksson, like 50 years before Columbus there was that Chinese, but as mentioned he wasn't European, but 500 years before Columbus was Leif Eriksson, who was Nothern European, but it wasn't until Columbus that Europeans started colonising America.
And anyway, I don't buy this whole theory that the "New World" is supposed to be America, since we know that Elbaf is in the New World, and everyone knows they are based on the Vikings.
you know, i never stated columbus was the first to find america. someone just added that note. i'm not saying that the "New World" IS America. i'm saying that Oda adopted the theme of "The New World" from The Americas, and incorporated that idea into his One Piece "New World"
not to flame, but reading is fundamental 8)

@Fire Fist:
This is Levasseur's cryptogram:

Any questions?
I was not saying Oda took the idea from those indians, only saying there was a set of indians in America who wrote stuff no one knows. If I didn't mention poneglyphs it wouldn't have been on topic.
I already gathered from reading the REST of the topic about whats going. :getlost:
-
It doesn't really look like the Poneglyph to me. Personally. But, stuff like the poneglyph you can make up, and not even realize that you stole it from something else.
-
@Fire Fist:
No, the Aztec calender is not the Poneglyph.
Poneglyphs come from Olivier Levasseur, a Pirate nicknamed "The Buzzard". He was a brilliant pirate who was known to be incredibly fast. Upon his execution, he took off a necklace he was wearing and threw it into the crowd, shouting, "Find my treasure, he who may understand this!" In the necklace was a cryptogram with twelve lines. To this day, no one has fully solved the cryptogram.
And as for the New World, Spain pretty much had dominance for most of the Great Pirate Age, because they owned the Peruvian Silver Train. The only pirate to successfully capture the Silver Train was Sir Francis Drake.
What he said. ^
You beat me too it. :P

Look, One Piece world is NOT Earth. America does not exist.
This will be sig'd, a humorous little gem.
Uh, Greg…? Oda has a character based off of a nut-case from a Spanish novel. He also seems to have studied Geography to an extent (An incredibly boring subject). Also, I think it was in his memo of volume #1, he said he gathered "Lots of 'resource' material". I don't think it unreasonable that he has done a little bit of research on such boring topics like the Colonial/Pirate age.
-
I'm pretty sure I said that. So thanks.
Anyway, who are you saying Oda based off from a "spanish novel"? -

Anyway, who are you saying Oda based off from a "spanish novel"?Silly rabbit. Don Quixote, of course.
Don Quixote wasn't a nut-case, though. He was one of many people that were unable to deal with all the changes following Post-Napoleonic Europe. Napoleon had pushed to do away with monarchies and antiquated technology, and integrated machines and factories, trains and other new technology into mainstream European life. Don Quixote had been ill during the years all this happened, and so upon seeing it, was unfamiliar, and treated it as sorcery/dragons/demons.
The Don Quixote in One Piece is accepting the New Age, rather than rejecting it, though.
-
Oh yeah, Donflamingo was based off of him. Forgot 'bout that.

I read this forum for quite some time, but this atrocity really forced me to go out and post.
Don Quixote was first published in 1605. I have a copy dated from 1700. Napoleonic era was the beginning of 19th century. I am afraid your explanation is overly creative…
-
If there was an Incan style place in OP, that would be awesome! Oh, wait, that's what SKYPEIA WAS! Geez, people, think!

? Did I somehow suggest otherwise?
-
I think he did, because he obivously has the names of lots of pirates. Also, Greg, why is your sig "1" now?

Well, my mistake. Christ, people getting upset over the silliest things.
In any case, it had to do with the radical changes occuring in Europe at the time it was written. So it wasn't the Napoleonic Era, but rather the late Renassiance. I apologize if I offended you.

Look, Donflamingo is Don Quitoxe because they both have inlfated personalities and stuff.

Dude, have you even read the story? You say the most off-the-wall stuff sometimes and it makes no sense.
Don Quixote actually came to his senses at the end of the novel; he acknowledged the changes that were occurring in Europe. Doflamingo is probably named after him because they're actually exact opposites. Don Quixote was against change but finally acknowledged it, Doflamingo is FOR change but will probably be beaten and realize that people will never stop dreaming.
In any case, they're both dreamers, they just have the exact opposite opinion.
-
Well yes in the END OF THE STORY. Are we at the end of the story in OP? No? Didn't think so.
-
Also, Greg, why is your sig "1" now?
Because it's no longer "2". rimshot
Days left 'till new Lost

Yeah, well, Don Quixote was a harmless old man. Doflamingo is a very dangerous and deadly pirate.
-
I think Donflamingo could OWN a windmill.
-
@Impel:

Huh..?
Seriously now, why do you post so much with so little thinking? For the DoFlamingo case.. We actually know so little about him, but it seems almost all your posts take him as a main character. I don't say you shouldn't, but say it's a theory and don't attack so much. So much it's scary. =S

But let's cut to some chase: If the New World is, in fact, the Americas, then there's an OP Canada, which I would love, being canadian.

Canada sucks, they didn't even have a revolution. XD
But seriously, Odaverse is an Archipelago world. It's a bunch of islands. We've seen Shanks on Various islands in the New World. It's not a continent.
-
I know it's not a continent, but each island could be like a country in the Americas.
