Okay, well, at the risk of getting attacked, I'm gonna go ahead and say it. I don't think One Piece will ever do well in America no matter what happens to it. I thought about this a lot, and I came up with a good analogy.
In Japan, the Dragon Quest games sell like hotcakes. They sell so well that a law had to be passed in Japan prohibiting the sale of the games on weekdays.
In America, Nintendo had to give away free copies of the game to people who subscribed to Nintendo Power.
It's just one of those things, it's big in Japan, but it'll never be big in America. I love the Dragon Quest games, and insane amounts of detail were given to Dragon Quest VIII in the States, making it superior to the Japanese version by having orchestral music instead of the Japanese MIDI music, voice acting, and even extra scenes and spells. Still, the game didn't sell particularly well in the States.
One Piece to me seems to be much the same. We love it, of course we do, we're on a One Piece message board. XD But it just seems to me that much like Dragon Quest, One Piece is fated to be one of those things that's huge in Japan but will never hit it big in America, no matter how much care is given to it.
Still, I would love to see uncut subtitled DVDs, if nothing else, and if that's all we can get over here in the States I'd be happy with that. It's not like this hasn't happened before…it happened with Cardcaptor Sakura, where the dub failed miserably but the uncut subtitled DVDs went on to outsell the dubbed DVDs by a ratio of 3:1.
@Private:
I still don't like how it got deep furing Heavy Point, though.
Oh yeah, they need to dump that, it's horrible. Keep Chopper's voice consistent in all forms, I forgot to say that. But Lisa Ortiz needs to stay as Chopper, IMO.
