Chapter 355 "Spandam" Discussion
-
-
Spandam, if I read the script right, called in five extra agents to, I presume, sail the Battle Frankys into "battle." I wonder if those five could be a past incarnation of CP9 (either our current guys + 1 other or their predecessors).
Also, I just now had a thought (which I've spent many edits refining). If there is a fifth member of CP9 out there somewhere, it could be Spandam. Perhaps he got promoted in the eight years between this incident and the current situation. In fact, I'm still checking the possibility out, but I think maybe our silhouette man from chapter 339's final scene could be him.
People, if I remember right, thought at the time maybe Blue Kiji was the guy standing at attention in that scene. They also mentioned a resemblance between him and Lucci. So maybe Lucci (the apparent leader of CP9) is our second-in-command while Spandam is the true leader, working behind the scenes. The undercover agents' handler, if you will.
He seems fairly fanatical about justice, he seems to have been one of the original pushers for awakening the ancient weapons and his silhouette could potentially fit the one at the end of that chapter. His eyes, as seen in the last page of 355, definitely do.
On a side note, it seems it could be inferred that the Cipher Pols report to the Five Star Elders for orders.
But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
-
Theories: Some kind of Battle Franky will be the Strawhat's new ship :P (Pluton is a possibility, but it seems too good to be true.)
The whole "Ohara Incident" thats the whole highlight of Robin's passed happened either in Water7, or on an island that the Seatrain travels to, causing Tom and friends to get stuck in the middle of it. -
I dreamt I busted in the warehouse crying "DIE!!! YOU BRAINLESS JUSTICE ZOMBIES!!!!" I sports an rabie drooling down my mexican face with an hyper wide bloody eye, I hold a big Machine Gun and whip the living apeshit out of the CP9, they screamed "JUSTICES!!!" as there bodies explode volcenly, they went to hell beating their brains out because thier own brains betrayed them into thinking that they are so good olny to find that they are really bad guys. I later tracked down other heartless SOB CP and shot the living apeshit outta them, they screamed "JUSTICE!!! BITCH!!!!" as they died an bloody gory death with terrified looks at their face wondering why there really bad guys. After all the CP are killed, the Government lamely raised my bounty to 20000000 Beri but I found the Pluton and guide the warship carefully to Marejois and target the energy at the Marine Headquaturs where the five old shitheads are, disscussing justices in an drunken tone, thinking pirates are the source of evil but they never knew that the Government are the REAL soruces of evil (which is why people are revolting them and these Five Old Shitheads blames pirates..how sad) so I blew the Headquaters, killing all the Marines people and the Government officals, the Headquaters is now a giant carter. So everyone celebrates and One Piece world started to split thier Governments into local Government while in hell the Five Old Shitheads Screamed with blood draining out of thier small brains screaming(Damn you! DAMN YOU!!!! FUCK JUSTICE!!! FUCK OUR CORRUPTED BRAINS!!!"

Woo…Interesting.....
Is CP5 one of the old goverment groups before CP9? -
If you read the manga thuroughly, you'd know there is a CP1-8 who are the top Government groups. CP9 is the secret group that is secret because they can harm citizens for the 'greater good'
-
Ish….Okay...
I've read it quite thouroughly now.
But the nice part about this chapter was when Spandam was unable to finish his sentence.... -
hei all, its good to be back…ok, first thing...can anyone PM me the english versions of ep 353, 354 & 355? I can't seem to find it anywhere...:(
I know I can DL it from IRC...but I really suck at it and get in trouble there alot...

Question - How old would Robin be at the time of this flaaashback?Twenty I think.
Quick Question Did The Ten Year Pass or They Just Foreseeing Things
There was a four year time jump, they spent it in completing the other three train lines.
BOTH FRANKY AND ICE WOULD APPEAR TO KNOW ROBIN'S PAST!!!!
Which will lead them to eventually give at least yet another hint of it. But perhaps they just know the one side of the story, Robin could be the only one knowing the whole truth.
But the nice part about this chapter was when Spandam was unable to finish his sentence….
Yeah, they're almost always about saying the important stuff but then something interrupt them . Like what Franky bought damn it!
Anyway, a good chapter and a jerk or not but I like Spandam though.

Irc is hard to use at the beginning, but with time, it's a useful tool !!! messiah, you can get null's scanlations here www.eastblue.net, but chapter 355 isn't out yet… Why ? because i'm the one who is cleaning it ^^. kiki.boudka

damn u ;)
spandam should die
he is sooo stupid to think that iceburg would give him the blueprints after he gets tom killed (an idea)
and do u think he is lucci's dad????? -
Am I the only one who likes this flashback 10x more than the Skypeia flashback? I mean, there's enough tension and drama in that arc to cut it with a knife. But, I digress…
The rest of the arc could very well pale in comparison to this flashback, its that good. stunned by what has happened since the beginning of the arc I don't think that the five extra members are the CP9 members since Franky said at the beginning 'What do you know about Water 7!' while getting f'ed up by CP9, thus insinuating that CP9 hadn't been in Water 7 before they were assigned there...
As for what I think is going to happen in the rest of the flashback: Tom, being a fishman, is going to tear through the Battle Franky's left and right while Iceburg is going to be wrecking shop from another Battle Franky. Spandam and Franky are going to meet, talk, and fight. Spandam just tools on Franky on another Battle Franky, and says how he's hopeless (or something evil sounding like that). Tom sees Franky getting whupped, and swims over to help him out. While the fighting continues, the ship gets in the way of the Sea Train, and a collision is imminent. Before it crashes into the ship, Tom pushes a near death Franky overboard and dies with Spandam on the ship (thus explaining why Yokozuna is so pissed at the Sea Train). Iceburg, the rest of Water 7, and some government officials sees the explosion and thinks that Tom and Franky are goners (working with the notion that 'Cutty Flam' died in an accident eight years ago, which works out from when CP9 said Franky died (Chapter 346)).
Franky, near the edge of death, washes ashore on an island that has one hell of an ill 'mad' scientist, and he gives him many, many weapons as well as a clean bill of health. However, the good doctor isn't doing this out of charity; Franky now owes the doctor somewhere around the tune of $200 million. Franky, strapped for cash, starts up a dismantler group and does some bounty hunting on the side in order to pay the bill, and we return to the present when Franky finds and returns to the old warehouse under the bridge.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say this flashback lasts another 2-3 chapters, and that Franky (after such an amazing flashback), is going to be a part of the crew. Call me crazy.
Edit: No way in hell is Spandam somehow Lucci's father. Comrade of Lucci or a friend of his, sure, but father? I'll be pissed if that happens, since it cheapens the story tenfold. No more talk of such foolish things like that.
-
All CP5 members have this Cross thing on their chest.
Like Corgi.Perhaps it's the sign of the 5 elders?
5 dots..5 elders -
It does seem that the Cipher Pols report directly to the Five Star Elders (as opposed to, say, the Navy).
Corgi could even be our chapter 339 sihouette man. I'm thinking either him or Spandam. Then again, could even be both, if Spandam is posing with another identity (something about how his face is painte,d and how Oda mde a point of showing him get the paint washed off, is grabbing my attention).
-
Did a quick comparison of Spandam and the shadowy 339 guy… Everything matches up rather nicely. I think we may finally have found our man.
-
I wouldn't mind seeing Spandman more but the silhouette could be just Lucchi, rolled up sleeves seems to be he's trademark. I don't think Spandam would reveal himself beeing behind the framing so easily though, only if it's compulsion. He doesn't have to do anything anymore, I'm sure Tom's to be blamed for what has happened.
Edit: Was the Tom's crime helping out a pirate or something else. Because thus far he hasn't done anything else than that besides holding the blueprints of course.
-
I dunno. My money's on Lucci being the guy we see standing at attention in the back. Nobody except maybe Kaku fits that silhouette.

**I think his "official" crime is him providing Gold Roger with a ship. And, Lucci said that Franky committed the crime "same as Tom's," which I'm guessing is going to be "providing ships" for "pirates" to attack innocents.
-
Well, nice to have the official boards back. :D
I'm seriously liking Franky more and more as each chapter goes by, though I'm still pretty certain he will not be joining the crew. While we haven't seen a lot of Paulie so far, I'm still convinced that he will join after the bonding with Luffy. I do think Franky would be the most likely one to build the Straw Hats' new ship, complete with ass-kickin, Sea King beatin weaponry for Usopp.
It is really amusing to me to think back some months ago when the Franky Family screwed Usopp, and Luffy and Franky had it out, and we were all speculating that Oda would give us two bad guys in the form of Franky and the then shadowy CP9. Guess we're back down to one enemy, though Luffy doesn't yet see it that way.
The most amazing thing to me is how Oda can tell such an intriguing story about the history of Water Seven and have us all totally into it, yet at the same time, there are tons of pressing questions in the present which still need answering:
Where did Luffy and Zoro end up?
Will Nami be alright with those big scary men?
What about poor little Chopper?
Iceburg and Paulie are still kinda screwed, what are they gonna do?
What about the crew status of Usopp and Robin?
Who the hell is Robin anyway, and what was this Ohara Incident?
What will be the fate of our beloved Going Merry?
Oh yeah, and haven't we all been wondering for months now, where the fuck is Sanji? It just makes me so happy to know that even when this excellent Water Seven flashback ends, there is plenty more to come
-
wut ever happened to that pigeon on luccis shoulder… could that be the leader who ate a pigeon fruit...i think pell (alabasta eagle) said there was another fruit of flight.
-
Wow!! This chapter was very good!!! Oda is such a good writer!!!
I think that the flash back might last for another 3 chapters or so.

The whole Ohara Incident happens when Nico was 8 years old. Nico was 28 years old now, she'll be twenty 8 years back and 16 years old 4 years earlier. When she was 8 years old she sank the Marine ships with her Hana Hana powers. The Sea Train was not made untie she was 16 years old so can you tell if she broke the Sea Train? The Sea Train does not exist when she was 8 so I think Tom may have other reason about her
-
The flashback originally started 22 years ago, so she would have been 6 years old. The whole Ohara incident happend while the Sea Train was still being built.
This flashback will probably go on for at least another 3, I woulndn't be surprised if it stretched to 4 or 5.
-
One thing that bugs me… Tom said that the boys could do whatever they want with the blueprints, even destroy them, so why do they hold onto them?
-
Yeah, a Battle Franky would be cool. Going Merry never had any power, and they could use it for the pirates summit.
Something I noticed, Franky, Paulie, Rob Lucci. They're all Italian names. Think there might be something to that? Also, this is the only story arc to use a lot of English names. (Like Tom)
BTW, where is Chopper anyway? -
It's probably because Water Seven is based on Venice, what with the water streets and everything.

Possibly because of sentimental value…or the fact that worse things could happen to them if they destroyed the blueprints.
-
i think "why" will be explained later on in the flashback…

Well, Robin can read poneglyphs, which is something that she had to learn somewhere. We also know that Roger could either read them or had somebody with him who could. At any rate, Roger or his crewmember had to learn it somewhere themselves.
The Ohara incident happens after Roger is executed and after Tom has been arrested for building Roger's ship.
At a guess, the government has been doing its best to track down former members of Roger's crew, either to execute them for being part of the Pirate King's crew or to find out the location of the One Piece. I can't see them ignoring the crew if they go to the trouble of finding the shipwright who built the Oro Jackson.
One of those crewmembers was probably in Robin's family; that or somebody with a close enough connection to Roger that the Government deemed them a threat. The ability to read poneglyphs is rare and probably had at least something to do with Roger's success. As a result, whoever taught Roger how to read or use them was every bit as responsible for his actions as Tom was.
So the government probably went after whoever it was that either taught Roger or traveled with him and translated the poneglyphs for him. If so, they were killed during the arrest or questioned and then killed which led to Robin retaliating by sinking the Marine vessels. Imagine what would have happened to Arlong had Bellemere been Robin's mother instead of Nami's.
How does this relate to Tom?
Well, Pluton is an ancient vessel; as a result, the blueprints were either copied from or found by someone who could read poneglyphs. So Tom probably got them from Roger as payment for building the Oro Jackson and probably would have learned something about poneglyphs in the process. As a sidenote, Roger made it to Water 7 from East Blue before having his legendary ship built that let him eventually become Pirate King. I doubt he was all that famous when it happened, else it wouldn't have taken them so long to track Tom down. So Roger was probably a middlin' famous pirate who had arrived at Water 7, presumably after having been in Skypiea and needing a new ship.
Like grandfather, like grandson. Or, if you insist, like D, like D.
Anyway, the Jackson may have been built partly using the Pluton plans or Roger may have felt that such a vessel should never exist unless the world depended on it and that Tom would protect the plans while he could not. Roger couldn't just destroy the blueprints as they might one day become necessary, but he couldn't just keep them as they might fall into the wrong hands if he were ever defeated.
So when Tom sees that the name Nico in the wanted posters, he realized that the government was well aware of their ability to read poneglyphs. If the World Government had captured and questioned some of those capable of doing so, then they might be able to find out that Tom had recieved the plans to the legendary Pluton.

One thing that bugs me… Tom said that the boys could do whatever they want with the blueprints, even destroy them, so why do they hold onto them?
Iceburg explained this, I think, in his talk with Robin. The blueprints were important because, in the event the ancient weapons ever reawakened, something with equal power would be necessary to fight with it.
Iceburg knew of Robin's existence, and her ability to read the Poneglyph. He also knew that reading the Poneglyphs could potentially lead to the reawakening of the weapons. Much as he's probably loathe to do it, Iceburg's hung on to the blueprints because, so long as Nico Robin lives, there's still a chance of the weapons reviving. So long as that chance exists, the Pluton he could build might become necessary, so he keeps the blueprints.
-
Ah, I didn't think of that. So do you think Ice wanted to get rid of her in the first place?
-
roger might be robins father or something and i was saying that water 7 reminded me of italy
-
just something i had in mind regarding CP9 and their crazy abilities…
the finger bullet basically punctures someone's body, but what if it's used against the hardening technique? which is stronger? i decided to bring this up because both are supposed to be ULTIMATE martial art skills... so what if they go against one another?
this reminds me of a chinese folklore about a guy who's selling spears and shield. he claims that his spears are the sharpest and the best of all, they can break through any shields. but he also claims that his shields are the best of all, it can withstand any spears. then someone asked him "what if someone used your spear against your shield?" and he was silenced.

"Mao Dun" could mean contradicting i guess...

Didn't the invincible shield and spear destroy each other when they were forced to fight?
If so, perhaps that winds up being some kind of weakness for CP9?

Spandam? What kind of name is that?

The Impact dial would be a perfect example of the spear and shield example. The impact of the finger bullet vs the hardening tech. Also, I wonder if Impact dials can be broken?
