Well the game is gonna be released in Japan by the end of the month, hopefully the US gets it by X-Mas, so far it is know there will be extra Espers & a new dungeon, but does anyone have any more info?
Final Fantasy VI Advance
-
-
Yeah, FFV-A had less than a month's difference between Japanese and US releases, so hopefully we'll be getting FFVI-A before the end of the year. It's been quite nice the last couple months, going through FFXII, now working on FFV, then I'll pick up FFIII, and hopefully when that's done FFVI will be out.
I sure hope they bring some of the newer summons backwards for the new Espers, though, and seeing Jumbo Cactuar is a good sign of it.
And something else nice for any FFVI fans, and Kefka fans in particular: http://www.kotous.com/final-fantasy/master-creatures/cefca-palazzo.php
One of my local game stores had a shipment of the figure line in and I have that particular one sitting right next to my computer. Damn incredible, it is.
-
Maybe when this comes out, there'll finally be some explanations regarding all the unanswered mysteries about the game. Does anyone really know how limit breaks work?
-

I was shocked when I first heard about that figure. I was under the impression Square forgot there are numbers before VII (at least when it came to merchandise).
Anyway, I love the sound of new summons, especally Jumbo Cactuar. However I hope Square will get off their ass and announce a UK release date!
-
is ffv advance even out here yet?!?
-
I'm really looking forward to this one, Final Fantasy VI is tied for my favorite FF game with IV; I cannot wait for this to come out in the US.
-

You mean the "desperation attacks" in Final Fantasy VI? Well, your character has to have very low HP (I think they will go into a "critical condition" animation). Then you have a very rare chance to do a "desperation attack" when you choose the attack command.
Anyway, what I'm hoping for is that all the bugs are fixed. Like the evasion bug (which made certain equipment useless, because the physical evasion stat had no use). Also, the Rippler bug too.
-
ha ha, ya, I didn't know about the evade bug when I was younger. Beads are a piece of junk in that game. lol What's the rippler bug? I know of that bug in the game, when relm draws something. (stupid relm grumbles)
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I'm so happy, I'm giddy with glee! Although, I'm not sure what to think of these changes?
and that kefka figure; GIVE IT TO ME!! I want it!! eeeeeeeee! squeels like a fangirl I didn't know kefka had a last name too.
I haven't had money to buy any new videogames in a year, but I'll buy this. ^_^
-
lol What's the rippler bug?
If an enemy used Rippler on you (which switches status effects of characters), it could switch Shadow's dog Interceptor to other characters. If it switched Interceptor to an enemy, and the enemy was killed, then you would lose Interceptor forever.
So I guess Interceptor was considered a permaneant status effect on Shadow, so Ripple could affect it. So hopefully they will fix that so that I don't have to always try to avoid those frog enemies that use Ripple.

There have been times where, with the right equipment and at the right time, I've been able to consistently pull off a limit break with a character every turn they've been near-death.
-
It doesn't look like they changed the graphics at all like they did for the DS incarnation of ffIII… Why? I don't really understand the logic on this one.. especially considering it's one of the most popular ff games.
And why are they bothering with more espers/dungeons? That was never a problem in this game.. Personally I think the game was perfect as it was even graphically for it's time, all they should have done is given it the FFIII graphics treatment.
-
That would mean porting it to the DS, as the GBA would be unable to handle the power needed to make it visually like FFIII, which would destroy the point of the game (seeing as how it's called VI Advanced). Besides, I like the idea of new dungeons and Espers.
I don't rally care either way for graphics. If Square wanted to make VI look like III, then yay (might make some of the graphic whores give it a go). If not, it's not the end of the world. It's still going t be a bloody good game and the new Espers will be icing on the cake.
[edit] Just did a bit of reading and it looks like Diablo will also be one of the new Espers. I quite liked him in VIII, so I'm happy to see he's being added to another FF game. I'd like it if Square added another Esper to brign the total up to five and maybe added in some new spells instead of recycling some of the currently existing ones. It also looks like the new dungeon will require three parties to explore it.
-
It would be soooooo awesome if they put leo as a real character to control over the game!! XDD
*edit: ca-ham…. at least they I hope they will translate everything and the images will be as they were in the japanese version...
-
I just found out that the official site has pictures of all four new Espers.
-
I can't wait for this game to get a UK release, as far as I'm concerned this -is- the best FF game out there… the new features don't concern to me much, I'm more interested in the game itself, it's been far too long since I've played it.
-

Wtf does being a graphics whore have to do with upgrading the graphics engine of the game?
If you already have a perfected game as far as gameplay, story, character design, and espers etc, there is no point in adding 2 hours of gameplay to add in new espers/dungeons when you could improve the one outdated factor that will turn this game from a 7.0 to a perfect 10.0 = Graphics.
Nothing to do with people that care about graphics, it's about overalll experience, and considering they didn't have to do any work to port over the game (it's disqustingly easy to port snes to gba, non professionals have done it with roms) the least they could do is actually DO SOME WORK and fix the graphics, even the official site has updated graphics for the characters (look at the character avatars on the bottom, that's how it should look).
-
….
They need to make Siegfried into a playable character.
-

rippler..I've never heard of that attack in the game? is there somewhere in the WOR, I can see it?
And did someone say they are re-translating it? I heard in the japanese version, Relm swears, and that's why all the charicters are allways giving her these shocked looks.
-
Wtf does being a graphics whore have to do with upgrading the graphics engine of the game?
I'm pretty sure I've seen people put off this game (and the other earlier games) simply because it has old school graphics.

Well personally I like extras like that. I already own IV - VI, and feel I need something new to justify purchasing it. For me personally the new Espers in VI are enough to justify that decision. But hey that's just me. And personally I don't see how updating the graphics would improve the score. When I personally rate a game I don't look at the graphics. I look at the controls, gameplay, originality, story, characters and other things.
Besides, why does the game need 10/10? Last time I checked, 7 or 70% was still a bloody good number. And personally I don't care what critics say about a game. If it looks good to me and catches my interest, I'll buy it whether they give it 10/10 or 1/10. Heck, I know one magazine which gave Makai Kingom 5/10. I think it's an excellent game, and certainly better than some of the games said magazine give a higher score to.
-
I think the graphics in VI look better than the DS III. But that's just my taste. I was really disappointed that III didn't get the FF I + II GBA treatment (with the Wonderswan Color graphics).
And did someone say they are re-translating it? I heard in the japanese version, Relm swears, and that's why all the charicters are allways giving her these shocked looks.
I think she was probably ruder in her speech or something. The US SNES version did have a line where Strago says she is "as foul mouthed as ever".
If it does get a North American release then it will probably be a re-translation, since they did that for IV and V.
even the official site has updated graphics for the characters (look at the character avatars on the bottom, that's how it should look).
You mean those 3D looking artworks on the character section? Those have been around for years. They were artwork made for the original release.
-
FFVI was the first Final Fantasy to really look really good for its time. Replacing the sprites with polygon models would be a big disservice to the game.
I'd love if they added a hard mode to this game. It really needs one! Ooh, and maybe a new character o.o Or two.
I love this game. I'm with Lupus - this is the best game in the series. No question.
-

Hum…. the graphics they used in the site is when they tryed to make a final fantasy for n64.... they had for umaro and gogo too... a couple of sites of final fantasy has that images, so well.... only the information of new summons, dungeons, etc, are news^^'''''
-
Uhg. Those ugly chibi charicters. They are an interesting take on the charicters, but I do not want them in the game. I did like how they had a picture of the charicters face in the speach windows, instead of the name in type.
Mr Half, they already have 12 charicters. Plus you get to control banon for a bit, and terra's dad. (I'm sure there is another one too) How many charicters do you need. This isn't suposed to be a new game. It is an old game. If you want new, go play 12 or something :)
-
You can control too the ghosts of phantom train, Vicky and Wedge in the beginning and one of the most cool char that FF ever had: General Leo!!! XP
-
ah, i was thinking of leo, but i couldn't remember if you actually controled him.
i think i remember reading about a glitch where you can have leo in your team…but i think he sucks, cause you can't develop him like a normal charicter.
-
Drools on the Cefca pic.
Well personally I don't mind any addition, my main interest is listening the music using GBA hardware :D -

Actually, the game has 14 playable characters, and since two of them are secret characters who have little at all to do with the main storyline, I don't see why it'd be so difficult to add another Gogo.
Even if this is an "old game", it still has the largest assortment of playable characters of any Final Fantasy (or RPG that I can think of) to date, not to mention a plethora of secrets impressive in any game generation. If I want a shitload of playable characters, why should I play a game that has, what, 7 or so?
-
oh damn, I thought 12 did include gogo and umaro.
well see, 14 charicters. Even you say this game has the most…and your asking for more. I'd ask for more in the other games if anything. There is such thing as too much of a good thing. I found that was a drawback with chrono cross. so many playable charicters, you didn't know what to do with them. it sort of got pointless. -
all Suikodens have 108 characters….. if that isn't much I don't what could be "the largest assotment of most playabe chars.".... of course they don't have that development FFVI had but it's plenty of chars to play^^
-
I don't know about you but, Cid's death=Cecil's lonliness>>>>>>>>Spira's dark truth>Aerith's death
Seriously that was THE SADDEST THING I'VE ever seen in a game! -
Uhg. Those ugly chibi charicters. They are an interesting take on the charicters, but I do not want them in the game.
Um… those are pretty much drawn versions of the in-game sprites.
I said it before, but Siegfried needs to be in as a playable character. The possibilities are endless.
-
I hope the names stay the same. The original release might need retranslating, but I'd like to keep Terra, Sabin, Cyan, etc. Or at least be given the option to edit their names as soon as you meet them.
-
I know carter, and that's fine, as long as they stay as sprites, but those illustrations are ugly to me. What's up with you and siegfried. "why don't you marry him if you love him so much" shouts in a silly childish mannor :P
freezerburn: is there ever an rpg out there when you can't edit the names? ^_^ (at least turn based rpg's stuff like zelda don't count)
-
Dragon Quest VIII, Final Fantasy VIII and FFX spring to mind, though DQVIII and FFX had voice actors who needed say the character's names which is fair enough.
-

CC only suffered because all the characters were basically the same and despite having 40+ characters, you could only use 3 of them. FF6 already has a diverse cast and you can use 12 of them in certain places.
So yeah, Siegfreid would be cool. They already have his sprites. Not sure what his attacks would be like. Another easy one they could do would be to have Kappa, the perma-imp (usually weak, but double powered with the imp-only equipment!)
-
Suikoden's massive amount of characters is one of the series I really enjoy that series.
-

did you know you can save Cid? It takes some time patience and luck, but it's do-able
-
Well, atleast now my GBA port on my DSLite will finally get used.
-
Actually, I never even knew Cid could die until I read it a year or so back. I always kept saving him. By accident.
On the same token, I never knew you could save Shadow, either. I always left him to his death. :x
-
I knew you could save Shadow before I played the game, but I didn't realise when the part was until it was to late. However my party has survived without him.
-
I hate how he doesn't always come. I played through that part like 5 times, last time to get shadow. lol, I also got carried away when I was selling off old armor, and so had NONE for shadow, when I was on the floating contenent. oops. :P
-
Gamefaqs has the US release date listed. February 5.
-

He always comes o.o It's always when you're by the airship in the last 5 seconds or so in the countdown.
-
I found a little something:
-
Woah…I saw a screenshot with Leo earlier today, but I didn't see Gestahl.
Hope it's real.
-
Unless they added in portraits like they did in FFV (I heard they didn't) then I'm pretty sure it's real.
-
You've gotta be shittin' me.
edit But in 7 hours?
-
Yeah, two things about this screen strikes me as odd:
- the time (7 hours and 50 minutes)
- the fact that Leo has no MP.
-
You've gotta be shittin' me.
edit But in 7 hours?
It looks like they used a debug mode there.
