Mina and Kafka are so cute. T_T
And once again we get to see Shinomiya's crazy-ass father. Along with the kind of ruthless/immoral leaders that always end up appearing in dystopian settings.

I would‘ve expected more skepticism from them no matter if Kafka saved their asses.
Gotta agree, it feels like the whole ordeal is taking place too soon, or too easily.
The troop members who trained and fought alongside him, understandable. Vice-captain ? Bit of a stretch but why not, he still spent some time with Kafka. But Mina has barely had any interaction at all with him ever since he joined the defense force, so it seems a bit forced that she turns out to be this worst-hour ally. It's not illogical, they are childhood friends after all, but as far as the storytelling is concerned I feel like I know almost nothing about the present-day captain and her relation to Kafka. She has a big rifle, uses a tiger for recoil, and that's it. If anything, there could have been hints about her, any clue beforehand to show what she thinks of his entering the force. But either I missed them, or they're nowhere to be found.
Analogue to motives found in Kafka's "The Process" - such as inscrutable authorities and the cruelty of the system - MonsterKafka will probably end up as a plaything between different powerful factions and their individual interests without really understanding the workings behind all of it. I can't really see him getting out of this predicament without somehow making allies within HQ's forces since otherwise he won't be able return to the 3rd unit in a legal manner so to speak. On the other hand I also really can't see this manga refrain from any action for too long, so it'll be interesting to see how this will be resolved after all^^
I'm pleased she didn't turn on him. I think everyone is standing by him cause they know he's a good person. And even in Kaiju form he's always defended people. So yeah his track record at least matters for something.

I get vouching for Kafka but they know nothing about humans turning into Kaijus. They can't tell if he's able to control it at all times or if he's a ticking timebomb, if he's a spy sent by Kaiju No. 9 who just blew his cover, if Kafka maybe died and then a Kaiju stsrted to parasitically use his corpse and pose as him, and there's still the fact that he's been lying to them all this time.
In a world that is constantly attacked by giant monsters that start to seemingly have an agenda of their own, I wouldn't simply handwave one of my subordinates being one of them because he's otherwise a good guy or my childhood friend.
I would have been cool with the Vice having some doubt or some of the recruits but Im glad Mina didnt turn on him. If they are supposed to have been that super close I rather have her step up for him then be an enemy. Like said before we barely know so I prefer having a positive impression for her trial for trust. Whereas the others I have some history with them and could have balance it out.
Daddy Shinomiya don't give no fucks
Oh daddy can't forgive the ones that killed his wife. How cliche.
Yeah, I think we can agree Daddy Shinomiya is psycho because his wife died. Happens a lot in fiction.

What concerns me more is that he appears to be taking Kafka's blood for testing.
They already did xrays. Blood work seems like a logical next step. Although he didn't have to do it so inhumanely. Also I really want someone to address that Kafka may not be technically human right now, but he didn't start that way.
His heart and spirit are still human, which is what matters.
His heart is literally a Kaiju core.
Someone posted that the blood sample is super contaminated by extracting it like that, unless Kafka was being uncopeartive with the blood sample taking, or they were scared to do it, they should have it by now.
The heart that pumps his blood is a kaiju core, but the heart that holds his emotions and morals is human.
But like his actual heart, that's.. that's a kaiju core
I think Satsuki is just meaning his emotional heart.
But does it pump blood? We didn't get too much into the physiological aspects of the Kaiju before Kafka turned. Just some notes about reproduction and behavior.
True, but it's been anatomical enough so far - from art showing cross-sections down to the fact that protagonist is essentially a kaiju anatomy expert - that I'm hopeful it's more than just hand-waved. Would be cool to have some exposition on the monster/human physiology.
A pretty screwed up way to take someone's blood for sure! I mean Kafka is willing to cooperate after all, why not just get some via needle? Evil daddy just had to put him in his place, I guess.
I think Satsuki is just meaning his emotional heart.
That's exactly what I meant.
But as you said, we don't know the exact physiology of Kafka or the other numbered Kaiju. The core is where the heart is, but is the heart gone? Did it get moved? Is the heart inside the core? We need more answers, and given how part of Kafka's character is that he knows kaiju bodies inside and out. Maybe he'll figure it out.
Who is more the monster, Kafka or Shinomiya Daddy?
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1009305
Daddy obviously.
No idea, but I'm hooked
Will Kafka be able to get out of this alone ? The situation is quite serious
I wonder if the will make weapons with the number monster they just have defeated
I don't know about the latest kaiju, I guess more than the head was left around, but it was mentioned that Kafka's monster parts just disolve away if cut.
They'd probably have to use his core directly to make anything.
Daddy Shinomiya does give fucks after all, just the tough love kind of type. But it's interesting to see more of the Kaiju that Kafka absorbed. Is it the main form as in, actually Kaiju No. 8, or is it a special type of Kaiju?
The parasite kaiju is very likelly to be just a chump that hit jackpot with Kafka.
The parasite kaiju also seems to have an objective of "kill monsters". Or at least that's what it's doing here. What does that mean?
"That can only be one Apex Kaiju." - refer to the recent Universal Godzilla movies.
I did not expect the Kaiju within Kafka to be awakened in such a chaotic state but thanks to that display, both Kafka and the readers have confirmation that the Kaiju within Kafka has a consciousness and it has a purpose. A purpose that revolves around killing Monsters. Such a nature begs the questions – why does a Kaiju seek to eliminate other Kaiju? Was it naturally designed to be such? Did the experiences the Kaiju had in the past lead it to resolving to kill Monsters? Or did human influence have a part in either creating the Kaiju or modifying it to serve as a weapon against other Kaiju? There are many mysteries left unclarified but with the Kaiju’s consciousness within Kafka confirmed, it may be possible for Kafka to communicate with it going forward and potentially get some answers to the many questions surrounding the Kaiju.
Right now within the situation against Chief Shinomiya wielding the Monster #2 ARMS and Suit, the Monster #8 Kaiju interprets Chief Shinomiya’s presence as a Kaiju. Can Monster #8 be stopped by having Chief Shinomiya disengage the Monster #2 ARMS or will Kikoru assist in bringing Kafka’s consciousness back by conveying to Kafka that her father never intended to kill him and has been testing him the whole time? Can Kafka convey to the Defense Force that he is not just a Monster governed by destruction and rage.
Go, Kafka! You can do it!

So is Kafka hitting his chest to destroy the monster core ?
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1009491
I have no idea what that weapon in the second page is supossed to be, but damn it looks like a drag to draw.
So Kaiju N. 9 didn't get the memo that seven eight nine.
So Shinomiya Daddy not quite as monstrous as he first appeared. But I do NOT like the look in that first unit commander's eyes. I feel like he'll be trouble down the road.
But creepy monster is back, and I worry about what happens next. And will we learn who Monster #6 is?

It looks like a big, nasty box cutter.
So Kaiju N. 9 didn't get the memo that seven eight nine.
Booooo.
Booooo.
God damned someone had to do it. Screams viciously as he is dragged to Dad joke gulag.
Pleased that Kikoru was wrong about her dad just being a dickhead. There is not at least one strong ally in the top brass.
Okay, the author took my expectations and turned them on their head and made the first commander hilarious:
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1009492
Well played, sir.
I wasn't expecting that lol. I like that combination of traits.
Lol that attitude was a surprise but not a disappointment. And the statement at the end just sold me on the character. Go get that platinum rank felliw gamer
i had completely forgotten it was the cool guy at the end of the previous chapter :-)
Narumi is quite the character:
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1009619
Seriously, after Kafka I think he's the one who made me laugh most.
Narumi is amazing. The dichotomy between beeing way too laid back and a serious fighter works quite well with him. It's one of the thing I really like about manga characters.^^
Ewwww, bug monsters:
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1009738
I noticed that Narumi's eyes seem to only get the weird pupils when he's in battle.
I wonder if Yamazon is a scummy workplace in this universe.
Why the chapters feel so short!
I know, right?! This chapter is 25 pages but it feels like everything happened so quickly!
I tried to read it and then somewhere in the middle of the chapter the Manga Plus app went "New Version Available" on me. But when it directs me to the app store there's no option to update. Just the uninstall and options. Anybody else experiencing that? :(
