Probably snatched up by the sub ^O^
LOST: Season 3 *spoilers abound*
-
-
All-around solid episode but it comes off as disappointing because it wasn't "season finale" type material which is basically what it would have to be to satisfy before the break. I have a feeling that they probably came up with the idea of having a mid-season break after the plots for each episode in the season had been mapped out, so I'm willing to cut them some slack in that there probably wasn't anything on the schedule that would really make up for a 13-week break. However, I hope for their viewership numbers' sake that they start giving some hard answers about the Others once February rolls around because I see a lot of people getting seriously fed up after tonight.
-
This episode was solid. Not the homerun that was needed to sustain momentum into the Feb. break, but it was a solid episode with a nice little twist in the end.
If I have one major gripe, its that the flashbacks for the Flight 815 survivors haven't been great, basically because they've just been lacking in direction & awesomeness (except for Mr. Eko and Jack). I'm sure that the writer's don't want to play their trump cards quite yet, but hopefully they can get back to the writing and direction that the viewers have expected of them. Hell, even the new characters that have been introduced have been decent (Juliet > two new Flight 815 characters, and its not even close).
@ stephen: The next episode 'Not in Portland' is a Juliet-centric episode, so I'm expecting tons of new questions to be answered about The Others in February. Also, I don't expect any serious challenges from the other networks on Wednesday nights, so LOST should still be a monster on Wednesdays.
-
That's fuckin' television!
Fantastic stuff and EXCELLENT twists to screw with the viewer's minds concerning Jack. Now I see why the episode 1 fb was important. I thought Jack wanted blood after seeing that which in turn helped to really make me think Sawyer was done for, yet another result of the recent uproar over deaths in the show. I'm also willing to forgive the ending as being just that because….well....they said it would be a cliff-hanger, and I'll be damned if that wasn't precisely what it was.
Great adrenaline pump. Fantastic story and an iffy fb but again, still cool to learn more about her.
"And now......we wait."
-
SJ: You're right, I forgot about Juliet being the protagonist of the next episode. In that case it should be a good one indeed.
I read somewhere that last week's episode was like the first time Lost had not been the highest-rated scripted show in its timeslot, having given it up to some derivative CSI procedural clone.
-
You are all forgetting the woman that drowned off-shore in the hard currents during season 1 when Boone tried to save her but Jack ended up saving him instead.
That would be Joanna.
-
some derivative CSI procedural clone.
I hate normal dramas. But I reeeeeeeeeeeally friggin' hate cop dramas -_-
-
It's kind of hard to imagine now that 3 years ago, they (and medical dramas) were about the only serious material on television.
-
Yeah…I wanna go back to the days where stuff like Hercules and Xena were cool (before they both got a super strange) and Brisco County Jr. ruled all.
Freakin' Bowler....
-
If you have even a single doubt that the LOST writers are making things up or wandering aimlessly, then read the hell out of this DISGUSTINGLY enticing interview. http://www.tvguide.com/News-Views/Columnists/Ask-Ausiello/default.aspx?posting={C39047D5-FB9F-4074-8B5D-C7AB3C0CCE3F}
MINOR MINOR spoilers. There are NO answers, just mentions questions that may or will be answered. And this…well I found this the most interesting given the recent ravings online. (again no answer here, but I'm tagging it anyway)
! > Will Adewale be back for that flashback episode you just referred to?
Damon: It might not necessarily be a flashback episode. -
! Will Adewale be back for that flashback episode you just referred to?
Damon: It might not necessarily be a flashback episode.! I can't wait for the zombie season.
-
! Well Eko may appear as the Black Mist/Monster like his brother and Jack's dad did to him, and possibly even to Hurley as his imaginary friend
-
If Lost uses zombies I'll have to wash myself for ever having watched the show in the first place.
Good episode this week, not great, I was hoping things would go the way Juliete seemed to have planned with Jack, but I doubt this was part of her plan. I was kinda hoping she would defect and join the others because she didn't seem to like them back during her book club meetings either.
I don't like that Locke was talking like a fan or the creators of the show.. I mean wtf, keep the actors IN character, we don't need a Deadpool in lost.
As for ratings, yea Lost isn't going anywhere, unfortunately they've put one of my other favorite shows opposite it and it's been getting lower than normal ratings. (although they were never high to begin with)
Don't knock CSI, CSI is the reason we have quality shows still on the air, if it wasn't for CSI to popularize science concepts and medical cop dramas Lost wouldn't have even been thought up, much less as popular as it is.
-
! > Well Eko may appear as the Black Mist/Monster like his brother and Jack's dad did to him, and possibly even to Hurley as his imaginary friend
EXACTLY! If you read the whole interview that's something they allude to. None of the zombie nonsense.
The point is,
! Eko's 'story' is far from over as so many Chicken Little's have been screaming about.
I don't like that Locke was talking like a fan or the creators of the show.. I mean wtf, keep the actors IN character, we don't need a Deadpool in lost.
I actually quite enjoyed it. It's a different side of him as the leader. We saw how his leadership differs from Jack's back when he asked for volunteers at camp (with a comment from Hurley to drive it home). I think it's appropriate that his remarks at such an occassion would be quite different from what we've seen so far from the Jack Show.
if it wasn't for CSI to popularize science concepts and medical cop dramas Lost wouldn't have even been thought up, much less as popular as it is.
Yeah, since a 4-toe statue on a crazy island with a smoke monster is based solidly in our reality. I hate cop dramas. 'Nuff said. There will always be a criminal. It's either this person or that person.
And uh…since when did I ever need a series to be popular to like it?
I mean…One Piece isn't popular in America. ^_^
As for ratings, yea Lost isn't going anywhere, unfortunately they've put one of my other favorite shows opposite it and it's been getting lower than normal ratings. (although they were never high to begin with)
This means…..what exactly? The show is in imminent danger because it's only getting millions of viewers? You couldn't possibly say you actually want the show to be cancelled would you? I mean no matter how much CSI and the like suck donkey balls, I'd never wish them cancellation for their respective fans' sake.
You really sound bitter ^_^;
-
! The point is,
! Eko's 'story' is far from over as so many Chicken Little's have been screaming about.
! Actually you're the one that said there's no story left to be said.. "what more do you want?" I believe were your words, although I'm paraphrasing.
! > I mean…One Piece isn't popular in America. ^^
! I never said the series had to be popular for anyone to like it :getlost: I said quite the opposite in my post because the other show I enjoy is opposite of lost and it's ratings have dropped because of Lost's popularity.
! > This means…..what exactly? The show is in imminent danger because it's only getting millions of viewers? You couldn't possibly say you actually want the show to be cancelled would you? I mean no matter how much CSI and the like suck donkey balls, I'd never wish them cancellation for their respective fans' sake.
! No.. it means the opposite of what you understood me to say, the show is not going to get cancelled because it's ratings will remain solid forever, people have found a replacement for "Friends."
! > You really sound bitter ^^;
! Sure if you misinterprete my post to mean the exact opposite of what I said (bizzaro), I guess I am bitter (bizzaro).
! My points were
-It was a good episode
-I disliked the zombie idea because zombie flicks tend to be horribly repetative, unscary and boring;
-I hope Locke stops acting like Deadpool.
-As for police dramas, NYPD blue never bothered showing us the inside view of a colonoscopy to discover a blue methane liquid that had burned through the arteries causing internal bleeding etc in such a way as to make science fun.. which is what Lost does through science fiction (IE magnetism + metal plane = kaboom) -
Actually you're the one that said there's no story left to be said.. "what more do you want?" I believe were your words, although I'm paraphrasing.
Um, I was talking about his background and history. And for all intensive purposes, that would appear to have reached its conclusion. Also please note that is precisely why I wrote it as 'story' ;)
I never said the series had to be popular for anyone to like it
Then why bring up ratings or viewers in the first place?
No.. it means the opposite of what you understood me to say, the show is not going to get cancelled because it's ratings will remain solid forever, people have found a replacement for "Friends."
So now there's something wrong with a show that's popular?
-I disliked the zombie idea because zombie flicks tend to be horribly repetative, unscary and boring;
Mmm, but who said that would be how it plays out? That's why you sound bitter because you're jumping the gun and reaching a worst-case-scenario conclusion.
-I hope Locke stops acting like Deadpool.
This is a totally valid criticism which I at first held myself until I realized what role he's attempting to play. If you don't take the bait then that's the thesp's fault, but at least understand what they're trying to attempt with that.
-As for police dramas, NYPD blue never bothered showing us the inside view of a colonoscopy to discover a blue methane liquid that had burned through the arteries causing internal bleeding etc
So cop dramas these days are on a higher level because they take a personal look inside the actor's bung-hole? Heehee, sorry dude, just had to.
I totally respect cop drama fans for liking their material but finding the criminal I just….I dunno. Not my thing. The resolution for the majority of the stories (obviously not any overarching ones) are just too quick and the people are just too perfect. Not to mention the technological aspects of it make me laugh. Like the grainy security cameras that can suddenly clear up to 9999999dpi and turn corners from a still shot. The computer systems/networks/analysis which the highest offices of our government couldn't hope to possess. And most of all, the convenience of 'luck'.
These reasons and more, are why 24 is the most absurd show ever.
Lost at least has one foot firmly planted in reality and the other....well....somewhere else.
That way it's a game between what is 'scifi' and what's logical.
I still think their biggest problem is the angst game (AND STILL, OH JESUS ARE THEY NOWHERE NEAR 24) but they always win me back when they poke fun at those scenes later on.
-
Then why bring up ratings or viewers in the first place?
So now there's something wrong with a show that's popular?
Mmm, but who said that would be how it plays out? That's why you sound bitter because you're jumping the gun and reaching a worst-case-scenario conclusion.
-I already explained why I brought up ratings, and I feel like you're twisting my words to make it sound like we're disagreeing which isn't what I'm doing and I thought that was clear.
-When did I imply this.. the original reason I brought up popularity/ratings was because someone else brought up competition for lost. I was merely saying that due to Lost's popularity it will not be cancelled (Translation Lost good, me like, no cancel = good yay!:happy:)@battle:
! I can't wait for the zombie season.
That's why I "jumped the gun" as you so called it.. because someone brought it up, and I responded negatively towards it due to personal distaste towards the zombie genre.
I think I've sufficiently explained why I'm not disagreeing with you and we're in fact on the same side.. but if you still think I'm "bitter" or w/e go ahead and continue criticising my forum decorum, goodnight.
-
I'm "bitter" or w/e go ahead and continue criticising my forum decorum, goodnight.
Well I never actually said you were actually as such. I just pointed out that's how it appears/sounds with so much negativity and I'm wondering if that was really the root of your feelings towards it. Not that it matters. Any way the wind blows etc.
-
These reasons and more, are why 24 is the most absurd show ever.
You just made my day.
I have the same opinion of it myself, it is an absurd concept that ANY terrorist conspiracy/plot can be stopped by the American government in just under 24 hours.
Hell ALIAS at least made itself look good by having a sexy female main character and cool gadgetry and a very confusion plot, which by the way carried on to LOST after this show finished. But in some ways ALIAS was in part science-ficitonal because of it's overarching Rembaldi Prophecy plot, but at least you knew if it was going to be classed as Science Fictional then you didn't have to worry about how ridiculous a concept it is to believe this could actually happen in real life.
But 24 never tried that and so made itself absurdly unlife like in my eyes.
-
But 24 never tried that and so made itself absurdly unlife like in my eyes.
Jack Bauer is one of the highest-praised characters in television history that has no personality whatsoever.
They came close to giving him a hint of humanity at the end of season 3, but again, like all season finales in 24, it was brushed quickly under the carpet. I would go so far as to say the show is nothing but non-stop senseless run n' gun but there are moments when I've thought bits of it were indeed cool.
-
The Run n' Gun parts you mean?
-
No, they totally suck.
For example, when he hi-jacked a passenger plane. That was really cool. And when the twist about his inside plan from Season 3 was revealed. That was also quite clever.
-
So basically you like the clever parts better than the rest of it? Yeah I agree.
-
Season 3, to me, really hasn't been that great so far.
Maybe it's just the flashbacks. In them (again, my opinion) there have been no moments that included extremely tense emotion or huge plot twists; no " I was pregnant", "I want my damn kidney back!", or "I hope she makes you whole, Sayid." No scene like Sawyer ending up killing the wrong man (with Jack's father's influnce!) or how Charlie started out as a druggie. I think the flashbacks of the last two seasons were better; I liked Eko's, but Locke's seemed unfinished, Kate's was lame (hate to use a word like that, but all it was was "We love you and hope you never ever leave Kate! Wow you're so wonderful and amazing and sweet and flawless!" followed by a "I DON'T DO TACO NIGHT!"), and while Sawyer's and Sun's weren't HORRIBLE, they could have had much more to them.
Not to say I didn't enjoy it and I don't still love Lost (every scene with either Henry, Sawyer or both was awesome, Jack was incredibly badass, and the whole subliminal messages movie thing Juliet pulled on Jack was HILARIOUS) but I hope in Feburary they kick it into high gear.
-
From the advance spoilers I've been reading, I think it will be kicking into high gear either immediately or shortly after the season resumes in the spring.
And finally, finally, in Jack's first episode after the break,
! They will show what happened to him in Thailand, AND explain his tattoos!
-
I just read IGN's Top 50 Loose Ends from LOST
While some of them were not still loose ends (such as the Black Rock's origin and other details divulged in the aptly-titled ARG) I actually forgot a good number of the mysteries we've been presented with.
Like for instance…..that glass eye found by Eko! (don't have to think too far back to see what a huge role that may play)
Now.....some people have used this as grounds for complaint but...why?
Aren't you going to be more floored by the revelations when they come at you unsuspecting? I guess I can understand not having the patience for it, but don't rip it because it provides more questions.
That's just means it's gonna be all that more INSANE after the climax.
-
I don't realize when something is being revealed like… what black rock's origin?
I'd rather have things placed in front of me and having a large heavyset man with a stick sitting behind me telling me what it is, that hits me with the stick whenever I don't get it.
-
The giant slave ship they found in the middle of the island that led to the greatest line in the series.
I totally understand if people can't keep track of everything they wouldn't get into it. But…that's no reason to knock it.
-
Just bumping this to let everyone know that Matthew Fox is hosting Saturday Night Live tonight.
-
I just came to post here saying I'd seen some of it (though I missed a good bit of the beginning, if they did a Lost parody I missed it).
The mountain man thing was hilarious, along with the math/history professor. Though I kept expecting him to say something about saving Sawyer or something.
Edit:
-
I just came to post here saying I'd seen some of it (though I missed a good bit of the beginning, if they did a Lost parody I missed it).
The closest thing to one was a skit with him in an elevator.
! Fans drive him crazy with their theroies.
-
Aww man, can't believe I missed that. Hope it ends up on youtube or something.
! Him talking about eating babies was funny, though.
-
Well, now Desperate Housewives is on winter break too….
If it weren't for Day Break I just might have gone insane.
-
If Lost uses zombies I'll have to wash myself for ever having watched the show in the first place.
LOL…
Man I completely missed the 2nd and 3rd season for reasons such as that. My buddy and I were discussion it during the 1st season on how the hell they were gonna end this show, and we came to this conclusion:During mid-season 5
Writer #1: Hmm we screwed ourselves didn't we? How will we ever write a plausible ending to this w/o dragging in aliens or someshit... Let's all quit before we're fired.
Writer #2: Agreed
Writer #3: I concurBut yeah.. that aside is this show actually worth getting back into, like are they solving any of the mysteries or just laying on new ones? (I didn't read any of the spoilers)
-
Why is everyone upset that they add more mystery? Then it will be all the more spectacular in the end.
That's the problem with macguffins, when you find out who shot JR, what does it matter anymore?
Or would you rather a show like 24, one that presents you with the answers well in advance:
Jack will not die.
He will win.
The answer to your question? If you don't have the patience, then no. Don't bother. But you're gonna find out the answer to the mysteries of the island far sooner than you'll find out what One Piece is.
-
Actually I don't watch 24 at all, never saw 1 ep. The shows I watch are Rome, Dead Like Me, Deadwood, The O.C. (I know lol… can't resist though), forced into prison break, Myth Busters, etc.
Also, the problem is not patience, it's if it will have a good ending. I highly doubt the writers thought of everything, every answer in advance, most shows make it up as they go along. So my question to you is, how do you explain a super unlucky serial number, polar bears, T-rex sounding mechanical subterrainian monsters, etc. All that is in season 1, I dunno even know wut they added in 2 and 3.
P.S: Replying to this with a simple "You just lack the creativity those writers have, they will think of something." is not good enough, because you have no proof to back that up.
-
Greg on what you have to say on 24 I disagree for 4 reasons:
1.Season 2 Jack Bauer is electrucuted and dies.
2. season 4 jack is shot and dies again.
3. season 5 Jack did not win technically, but Martha did.
4.(yet to come) season 6 Jack chokes on an icecube and dies again. -
@N00bler:
Actually I don't watch 24 at all, never saw 1 ep. The shows I watch are Rome, Dead Like Me, Deadwood, The O.C. (I know lol… can't resist though), forced into prison break, Myth Busters, etc.
Nothing to be ashamed of, the writers have been picking up the slack on this show and are actually making plot that's worth watching. The show's actually (since I can't even remember when) lighthearted, and enjoyable this season, and in effect highly addictive. Same goes for One Tree Hill, the show rewards longtime fans, I haven't seen Lost do that yet, anyone can just pick up the show anytime and be as confused as the fans from season 1.
-
Yeah no more ODs, break-up make-up drama, and such. I am disappointed that Mischa is permantally off the show though, I thought for sure that the producers they were gonna pressure the writers to put her a "coma" or something. So that in case she actually wants back in the show Marissa can just "wake-up" and the show will get a huge ratings boost.
-
@N00bler:
P.S: Replying to this with a simple "You just lack the creativity those writers have, they will think of something." is not good enough, because you have no proof to back that up.
When would I ever say anyone lacks creativity based on two posts on a message board?:wassat:
I highly doubt the writers thought of everything, every answer in advance
It's a fact that MANY elements came into the show as soon as a week before shooting. Watching the season 1 DVD extras confirms this. Characters like Sun didn't even exist and the Jack character was supposed to die in the pilot.
However, I have no doubts whatsoever about the end result because they have been very clear time and again that the overall story of LOST has been set in stone since the beginning.
I mean….Oda thought OP would be over in 5 years..... -_-;
Then he said the story was half complete at Vol. 24 ...... -_-;
But he has gone on record saying he started with the conclusion in his mind.
Things come up, with the bigger picture in mind you can add and shape your world/story as you see fit. I'm not saying little tiny details will make sense. For instance, why were they all on the plane? I highly doubt that will be answered since the series brings up the question of 'fate/religion/faith' VS 'science'.
You wanna know what the series is, it's a commentary on the old question, "What are the chances of you knowing someone you sit next to on a plane."
I bet that's the idea they first started with when they wanted to make it more than just simply, "Castaway: The TV Show"
And you know what? From my own experiences, I have no problem believing in a little bit from from column a and a little from column b.
On my flight to Japan this time I sat next to someone with a Bio degree. I have a Bio degree too. Then we started talking about schools. He lived in Maine and went to some school I never heard of. I live/d in New Jersey and went to a small private college called Drew that nobody outside NJ ever heard of. He knew my school. So he asked me if I knew anyone on the softball team. I didn't socialize much at school so I said no, I just knew one person on the softball team. He asked if her name was 'Deb'.
Deb was my lab partner for two years.
He worked with her in the South on a summer project.
Anyway, justificiation aside, it's VERY clear they have the bigger story set in stone. Therefore we needn't concern ourselves with what happens to that. The one thing that may suffer? Characters may not be as deep as we anticipated because they admit they weren't even fully formed before shooting.
But with respect to the mysteries surrounding the island, I have complete faith in them because they know the answers, we don't.
I mean look at the chapter title of OP this week. Do you think Oda intended all of this back when he first added Usopp and neglected to add that chapter title? Dun' think so. But boy did he make it work.
1.Season 2 Jack Bauer is electrucuted and dies.
You're absolutely right, I should have said, "Jack can't/won't stay dead because he's a super hero." As this is always the case, why bother putting him in danger since we know he'll be fine in the end?
This coming season had the BEST potential for a dramatic scenario as it could have been an awesome escape. But no….Jack is in America......fighting terrorists......again......
3. season 5 Jack did not win technically, but Martha did.
Did he stop the plot? Yes. Jack Bauer has never failed the overall plot.
-
Just caught up with the episodes from this Season, and I must say HELL YEAH. Locke is so badass in this season, thats what season two was missing.
-
uh…is this what's meant by Christmas coming early?

When would I ever say anyone lacks creativity based on two posts on a message board?:wassat:
Just a disclaimer, if I didn't say it you may very well state so, just to save time.
It's a fact that MANY elements came into the show as soon as a week before shooting.
Maybe I should clarify, I joked before about what would happen in mid-season 5, this implies when I said "thinking in advance" I meant seasons ahead… not 1 week lol
However, I have no doubts whatsoever about the end result because they have been very clear time and again that the overall story of LOST has been set in stone since the beginning.
Anyway, justificiation aside, it's VERY clear they have the bigger story set in stone.
That's totally baseless, your point of view is being skewed due to your bias towards the show. Have they offically announced they have it set in stone? No, no writer would ever be stupid enough to do that, say what if a main actor dies in a car crash or a writer has a change of heart, then whole story needs to be changed. But that aside I think I should state that you addressed something that's only partically relevant to my orginal question, which is; could the ending be good with things set up like this. The writers having the ending set in stone matters not if the carvings itself sucks.
Also what's with your hatred towards 24? lol
-
@N00bler:
The writers having the ending set in stone matters not if the carvings itself sucks.
Cool quote, and Greg thought you lacked creativity :ninja:
January tenth.. I hope I won't be working nights by then, it's too early to tell though. sigh Back to downloading and not watching the episodes lives again, I guess.
-
Have they offically announced they have it set in stone?
Um, yes…...multiple times actually....in many different mediums.
And I personally enjoy the 'carving'.
Just a disclaimer, if I didn't say it you may very well state so, just to save time.
Why would I launch a personal attack over the internet? I'm sorry if you had to deal with individuals like that in the past but that's not how the majority of vets work here.
And despite what I may say in my over-the-top posts regarding 24's similarity to a pile of stinking dog poo, I don't hate it.
I can't hate something that's a TV show.
What I don't like about it is its predictability.
I haven't read any spoilers but I can predict what will transpire:
There will be at least two interrogation scenes.
Someone won't trust Jack in the government, even though we know he can be trusted and/or he will make it appear to deceive them only to ultimately be revealed (this season or in the future) that he was working for them. This will waste time with people looking for him.
"Millions of lives are at stake." will be said no less than half a dozen times.
People around Jack will drop like flies.
Jack's life will be threatened. And even if he 'dies' he won't stay dead.
The terrorist's plot will be foiled.
Jack will do one or two really really cool things.
Chloe will be bitchy for no reason.
Not only is this the entire season, this is almost a description of every episode.
I think 24 is great for the crowd that loves explosions, but I'm more interested in the characters of a show rather than what's going on around them. And let's face it, since the first few seconds, Lost has been a character study. It's only slowly starting to unravel into a bigger picture.
I mean, I just described every season of 24 and what will happen this season….but how many people could predict Eko would be thrown around like a rag doll by Lostzilla?
I like to be surprised and 24 simply doesn't surprise me.
But I continue to watch it and enjoy it in my free time.
-
Um, yes…...multiple times actually....in many different mediums.
And I personally enjoy the 'carving'.
Yea lol I have no idea if that's true or not, just made a dumb assumption.
But then again… they might just say this to shut up people like me.Also; enjoying carvings that you can't read, you must be a lover of abstract art, what's your fav piece?
As for 24... sorry for assuming again, but you really do seem to hate it lol, I mean you wrote quite alot about its negative points... which I have no opinion on since I don't watch it.
-
January 10th or 17th?
:O
Anyway, the Lost writers have stated that they have the mythology of the island completely plotted out, so based on how long the show runs (ie how long the ratings hold up) they can just reveal that mythology in varying amounts and add in whatever other storylines not pertaining to the island's mythology that they please. No, they obviously don't have all the storylines of the who written out, but the island's mysteries and answers to them and all those things that are revealed slowly are all planned out from the beginning.
-
Yea lol I have no idea if that's true or not, just made a dumb assumption.
But then again… they might just say this to shut up people like me.Why would they need to? People only starting complaining around mid-season 2. They said from the start of the show that they have the entire idea set out. Why would they need to lie? That's like saying Oda really doesn't know what One Piece is.
Also; enjoying carvings that you can't read, you must be a lover of abstract art, what's your fav piece?
I'm sorry, I don't follow. What's not readable? You either absorb the clues and piece them together or you don't. There's nothing blatantly there for no reason.
As for 24… sorry for assuming again, but you really do seem to hate it lol, I mean you wrote quite alot about its negative points... which I have no opinion on since I don't watch it.
Sorry but it's not possible for me to hate an inanimate object. I don't think its writers are talented.
What does it mean if if I write a lot of negative comments? That's my opinion. It doesn't mean I hate something. That would indicate I have a feeling towards it. My opinion towards 24 is 'apathetic' at best. Yet I continue to watch it.
I mean I wrote a fuckload of negative comments about Final Fantasy 12. That doesn't mean I seriously hate it as a game. I think for any other game than a FF title, it's fantastic.
In the same vein, if 24 wasn't getting oral gratification from millions of people for being a mediocre program and was just a 'regular' TV show, I'd probably enjoy it on that level. But given the hype surrounding it as one of the greatest achievements of modern writing and television.
ummmm, no.
-
I'm sorry, I don't follow. What's not readable? You either absorb the clues and piece them together or you don't. There's nothing blatantly there for no reason.
Clearly you missundertood what I'm talking about… You said before they had the overall plot carved in stone, you also admitted to not knowing the overall stories' mysteries but still said:
And I personally enjoy the 'carving'.
I thought my comment was pretty self-explanatory. Since there is soooo much the viewers don't concretely understand right now, the carvings are pretty much in an abstract state. Also contary to what you implied abstract art don't "blatantly" do things for no reason either.
But given the hype surrounding it as one of the greatest achievements of modern writing and television.
ummmm, no.

Clearly you missundertood what I'm talking about…
I'm not entirely sure you understand what it is you are talking about.
You said what does the end result matter if the carving sucks. The carving being how the shape the story ie. its flow and motion forward. The end result being the end of the show ie. the overall story.
I happen to enjoy the flow and motion thus far. If you don't, that's totally cool. But… hearing the same mantra of, "They don't know what they're doing.", when they've stated they do and being so pompous as to suggest they're lying to cover up the fact that they don't (something that sounds like a conspiracy the likes of which could be found in said show) is just kind of boring. I think we've covered that ground more than Sony vs Wii vs 360 and the end result always ends up being differing opinions but nothing on the level of a serious critique. Just simply:
"They don't know where they're going so it's dumb."
Which simply is not the case.

Your comparison to abstract art doesn't really work because it's not something that can easily be interpreted the same on all levels by each person that sees it. Surely if Lost is compared to abstract art, then any other mystery that presents information in a jarbled state is as such. However, the picture is quite clear, we're only granted certain views of it. Again, they have said this season will be about expanding our views of things we previously thought we knew, particularly about The Others and what they're doing, making the picture quite clear.
Whereas looking at abstract art, while I wouldn't dare argue is not without meaning, it cannot be interpreted the same by each individual. In the simplest sense of course, that is to say, neglecting emotions. Surely you would agree a picture of a structure with four square walls, a roof of some kind, a front door and windows may be interpreted around the world as a picture of a home. The cultural nuances that would be associated with it, not to mention the psychological impact/effect/interpretation/self-interpretation it would create within (or by granted creation by) the viewer are not part of tthe equation, those are obviously separate, but the basic backbone and structure of the picture, which is that it is a house, may be easily interpreted by all whom see it. It's not something that's simply out there.
Looking for a TV series that may be compared to abstract art? Go watch Twin Peaks.
Outside of British sketch comedy and Japanese variety programs, I think that's about as abstract as television ever got. Meaning, no one ever sat down during the course of the actual show itself and explained, "This means this and this freaky dream sequence means this." etc. It was up to the viewers to decide what it meant. Lost isn't going there. We're being told a story in a methodical and very manga-ish form.
