Attack on Titan: Why Genocide Is Sometimes Kind of Okay
-
That last page is metal.
-
Welp. This is definitely going to work out absolutely fine for everyone involved.
-
Christ that must have been an interesting time drawing that last page.
Erin and his whole family are nuts.
-
Did Eren just went full Tetsuo?
-
Eren wants the eldians to save the world by killing him. Eldians will be seen as saviours . Killing Eren might also stop the titan cycle.
-
So he's trying to be Lelouch?
-
No way he's trying to pull a Lelouch, its so predictable and cheesy, not to mention the author already hinted strongly its not going to happen: https://i.imgur.com/sOSUQRd.jpg Besides, the plan won't work. The world will still view the Eldians as devils, just because they killed Eren , doesn't mean there won't be others who share Eren's belief.
People need to accept Eren wants to destroy the world, its the world Vs his country. And he will fight for his people.
Eren is not a prey, he's been the hunter time and time again.
-
Eren is also a victim and a tool of his memories.
I'm disappointed in Armin. He should have seen this. I hope he can still break the cycle of violence somehow. (not before some epic airship vs. Titan action of course)
-
"Kaz. I'm already a demon."

Oy vey. That's all I can say. Oy vey.
-
Yay mandatory genocide.
-
Gaby is the heir of Eren on "whipslash character".
-
honestly half of them should be dead by now
-
Hange is back and all is well in the world

How so? Eren doesn't seem like that kind of person at all.
-
Eren hasn’t been “Eren” for a while now, he’s his own future self.
-

The common enemy for two races that has been in hate fear and war for seemingly infinite amount of years appear and history will see a turning point where they work together to bring him down.
-
I don’t see any happy ending for this manga, even if it happens as you describe, other tensions will rise for the survivors.
-
Yeah! Zero chance of happy ending, but it was clear since Eren unleashed his titan at the ghetto.
-
Out to stop genocide.

Meeting your crush after so many years..huh Reiner
-
They have now all titans except Eren's 3 with them right? Armor, Female, Collosal, Jaw, Cart.
I doubt that they can find Zeke tho.
-
We all knew Levi was the shit (and still is), but Armin proved himself even more here too.
-
What a lovely dinner

Talking through very serious questions that might never have an answer. Tough stuff.
-
This is what all the series was leading up to, not a xenophobic agenda or whatever controversy was being artificially stirred by clickbait media, but an exploration on resentment and grudge in the survivors, and what could eventually lead in the race to dehumanize each other.
Enemies sharing stew to prevent the end of civilization. And Gaby having character development.
-
Ah, yes. The mills of the gods grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine.
Reiner had it coming long overdue.

Oh yeah, because what Hange was talking about makes so much sense. As much sense as everybody holding hands together and singing kumbaya.

It makes no sense to stop a genocide? I can't quite follow you here.
Anyway, after seeing so much senseless hate and fanatism in this manga, this chap was one of my favourite chaps for years.

In the face of anihilation, yes.

In the face of anihilation, yes.
Whose annihilation? Not that of Paradis Island.
My problem isn't what's right or wrong (of course genocide is wrong), it's that it goes against the grain of this whole manga. Going from a dark version of human nature to probably singing kumbaya together at the end. It just doesn't fit.
-
Would you rest well knowing that the survival of your "country" lays upon the total annihilation of of the rest of the human race? That's the point they are asking nobody is jumping from total war to total peace, they are cooperating to assure survival.
-
Besides, total anihilation is not guaranteed, a retaliation is not about if but when.
I believe that a person of science like Henge would take the opportunity to stop the genocide seriously, armin a pacifist, mikasa in the middle of her crisis would follow armin, connie is a soft boy who couldn’t kill one person for his mom, and we saw the whole flow of Jean decision today. Also Levi is currently dead weight, and he’s a man of war, he knows he can’t influence the decision effectively.
You can argue that random people would have different reactions, but these characters? In this medium?
-
even though I am not defending total annihilation, I still have to ask wasn't the aim of the Marlians, total annihilation of the Eldians

I think they were looking for the founding titan to not lose the arm's race more than obsess on eldian annihilation.

They have a poor way of going about it
-
They have a poor way of going about it
They didn't expect the paradise people to give their best weapon away. Annihilation of Eldians wasn't their goal (they have a lot in their own country) finding that cool power and use it to stay the dominant power was.
-
They have a poor way of going about it
Well you don't see the CIA using paramilitary kids to infiltrate North Korea and steal all of their nukes, do we? Well they bloody hell have a point there.
-
I just can't feel sorry for the Marlians even to the end some still don't show any remorse for what they did, breaking down the walls with the intention of having innocent people get eaten just for the founding power is not ok in my book no matter how I look at it. The Marlians still treat Eldians like shit and the only way the peace between nation will come about is because the author will weave that web but in reality the Marlians should hate the Eldians even more which trampling might just be the best option
-
The implied rationalization is that they were kids, indoctrinated and manipulated to do that.
We have seen what Eldians born in Marley go through, as did the characters, and they did explicitelly mention the chain of war crimes.
This is not "super peace forever", this is "let's stop the attempted end of civilization, and see what we can do from there", acentuated with Annie saying precisely that, if Eren can't be stoped by reason, she will stop him.
-
I think the debate for the paradise people around the fire is are they fine with letting pretty much all humanity get wiped out if they get to live and they are not.
-
There's a new chapter, still about the ethics of genocide, guess that this is the actual thematic of this manga.
-
Surprised to see nobody talking about the new Season 4 trailer here. Thoughts on MAPPA taking over production and the art style change? I personally like the new look, characters look a lot closer to their manga counterparts now.
-
i'm just glad it's not wit anymore season 3 was garbage
-
-
This take honestly baffles me
People say trash way too easily.
My thoughts on the trailer. The trailer itself is great. It tells so much but nothing at the same time. Its doing good numbers and the amount of reactions to it is ridiculous but great.
About the changes. At first i was somewhat worried because i felt like the season was too disconnected to WIT but after hearing about the meetings between wit staff and mappa staff, the return of staff like the original sound director, sawano and the main scriptwriter, i am somewhat relieved. My worry now lies in the adaptation, background studio and Arifumi Imai. Im not gonna get into the adaptation part but about the other two: The backgrounds were one of the biggest selling points of attack on titan to me. My question is will they cooperate with the same background studio as the previous seasons? That would be their best choice honestly. At last, about the legend himself, Arifumi Imai. His name is ingrained in the very idea of attack on titan. Being a freelancer, you would expect him to be involved but you never know. So all in all, i still have questions but im at a more comfortable place than i was when the rumours of the studio change started spreading over the internet -
This take honestly baffles me
the direction/presentation were flat and underwhelming , and the cuts hurt the narrative and characters.
it's vastly inferior to the first season. -
Do they know the end in advance or is the anime having an original ending? I know the manga is on it's final phase, but it doesn't seem to be ending before at least one more volume.

Isayama said it will feature the legit ending
