Sigh, it seems its really difficult for authors to avoid the siren call of Time Travel. Its perhaps one of the most convenient plot devices in stories.
Another thing, this Eren seems so different to the guy we've been following all this time, he might as well be a new character.
I honestly can't relate to this guy and I'm pretty ambivalent towards whether he achieves his goals or not.
We need more Armin and Mikasa now.
Wasn't his goal always to get ultimate freedom and his personality an unwillingless to give up/be reasonable? He's a bit more fanatic but it seems like the kind of growth I could see from him.

Osamu Tezuka did a 5 volume manga where Jews and Nazism were a major plot point.
Tezuka was awesome, so he's in the 5%. The question is how many people paid attention.
That being said, there ARE Jewish people in Japan, but most of the ones who were there left after WWII. So nowadays unless someone studied history closely or has travelled a lot, you don't see it come up much.
However, after a popular manga like this, it wouldn't surprise me to see a lot more of young Japanese learn about Judaism and its history.

Yeah, his motivations might be similar BUT he just seems like a completely different character to me.
I guess its my failure as a reader that I can't pinpoint exactly what made Eren..Eren but his growth just seems very out of character(although I recognize that the story had already setup that the memories of the founder tend to change the personalities of the inheritor.)
I don't know, I just don't feel like rooting for this guy because I don't know exactly what he wants or why he's doing the things he does. At least with the younger Eren, I knew why he wanted to kill titans and I understood why he orchestrated the attack on Marley. But since then, everything he does is just unnecessarily obfuscated and he's playing 5-D chess by himself.

Nope. The holocaust imagery is all Eldians. Marley is such an horrifying antagonistic force I don't get how you could get them being the Jewish side here out of this at all.
Their exgaggeration and version of history is an exact parallel to how the nazis used the Jewish people as scapegoats for all of their problems. It is very much a similar parallel in terms of how that system dehumanized people.
I see people defending the system of that side and nope every time. The horrible persecution of the Eldians there to the point of literally having them live in ghettos, delibrate usage of children as human weapons and brainwashing them, imperialism the story admits is extremely self-destructive. The Marleyans are 100% the horrible authoritarian state here. The persecution for 1700 years is such obvious crap propaganda.
As for the most recent chapter, I just find Eren's negative arc fascinating. As a child he was always single-minded, but he never fought for freedom at the actual cost of others. His idealism took an hell of a hit from all the horrible stuff he has seen and everything he's been through.
I don't think I've ever seen a Shounen protagonist sort of lose their idealism like that, to the point he kind of turns into such an horrible person.
Even if the goal Eren is aiming to reach isn't ultimately as terrifying as Grisha interpreted it to be, Eren is brutal. His determination was always unsettling at times, but now that he is doing all these horrible things to reach his goal with such efficency, it crosses over to pretty horrifying. Look at how he basically emotionally tortured Grisha into doing what needed to be done in this chapter.
I just find it to be something really unique done with his character trope I don't think I've seen done before in any other Shounen story.
You have your Sasukes and Vegetas, but they're either poorly executed where the story either excuses them too easily, already have a character archetype you feel like could turn evil or they start out as villains. I don't think I've seen the usual idealistic Shounen main character turn into an antagonistic force and a pretty efficent and brutal one.
What he did in Liberio was horrible, how he treated Armin and Mikasa is horrible and his brutality with Grisha was horrible, too.
Even if all of it leads to a good result and considering that Eren does want all of this to end and probably has good intentions in mind (we also do see him not exactly being happy about what he does at points), Eren does some bad stuff to get there and some of this stuff, such as spurring the whole world to act against the Eldians clearly seems to have a pretty negative effect right now.

You know what? That's fair. I myself am completely hooked by the story, but at the same time I don't have anyone I'm really rooting for either. It's just a complicated mess all around.

Hes clearly grown mpre cold though after seeing all of his future memories when he touched historias hand though. Even before that he was getting sadder over S3 but still npw it seems he has a goal and will kill however many people (innocent or not) it takes to free the Walldians

Norse is just a branch of the Germanic tree as far as i know. Pretty much all Europe except the Balkan States stem from Germanic tribes.

Woaaaah, there. Just because some germanic elites settled here, south and western Europe do not stem from germanic tribes. There's a reason we speak some variant of Latin and not german, after all. That's like saying Portugal and Spain stem from Moroccans or Arabs because the area was ruled by a Muslim elite for some time. Plus, the whole eastern Europe is mostly slavic. And Estonia and Finland aren't either of these. And then there's Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, which are also different. Actually, there aren't that many Germanic-origin/speaking countries in Europe.

In a general sense I've really liked this arc. The last few chapters have been especially really good character writing-wise to me.
I just find Eren and what's done with him really interesting and unique. He's fighting for a good goal, but is being really shitty morally while doing it. He's much more cynical than he was back in the beginning of the story, but he still believes in the basic ideas he believed in back then.
I think this chapter is probably the best example of the duality of what he's doing. He just told someone who has been a slave for 2000 years that she is free. It's beautiful and powerful, but it ultimately lead to the freeing of the Wall Titans. It's so interesting to me.
Zeke and Ymir are interesting in their own ways, too.
You'd expect Zeke's closure with his father to change his mind, but it actually just adds another reason to execute his plan.
You'd expect Ymir to be just a standard crying damsel, but what imprisons her is what she is instilled to believe about herself. That she was born to be a slave and that her purpose was to serve others.
Yeah, as said, pretty interesting character writing to me.

I like this development.Ishiyama made really good of Ymir by not making her a omnipotent heroin, rather a abused and misused girl.
Also inheriting the titan 'parasite' been kept simple,which again is the right direction taken. -
I have to say at first I didnt know what to think about the timerelated power of the titans. I didnt really like how it seemed like nothing has to make sense anymore, like future eren seeing the past through historia and just changing it.
But now, id say its more like this parasite titan thing exists over this whole timespan as one whole.
So everything that happens in its enclosed borders is perfectly structured and completely set as one "storyline". No straight forward one, but as long as its in these borders everything is set, and theres only one "path". No endless possibilities. Just this one enclosed path and thereby the time travel stuff is consistent with everything.
I mean, now that I'm typing this i realize that its even being called a path in the story. Dont know if that makes sense to someone, but i just thought I'd share this Idea of an explanation -
